Blockchain payments firm Ripple (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/xrp/usd">XRP</a>) on Wednesday announced plans to invest in the newly rebranded <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cryptocurrency/24/11/42170669/wisdomtree-files-for-xrp-etf-trust-report">Bitwise Physical XRP ETP.</a>
The ETP, which is backed by XRP, is part of a broader rebranding effort by Bitwise Asset Management to enhance its European product suite.
What Happened: Brad Garlinghouse, CEO of Ripple, emphasized the significance of this investment amid rising demand for crypto-backed financial products.
"Global demand for exposure to the crypto asset class has exploded in 2024," Garlinghouse said in a <a href="https://www.globenewswire.com/news-release/2024/11/27/2987978/0/en/Bitwise-Rebrands-XRP-ETP-Ripple-To-Invest-in-Product.html">statement</a>. "XRP is at the forefront of this momentum, standing out as a cornerstone for those seeking access to assets that are resilient and have real-world utility."
The Bitwise Physical XRP ETP offers European investors direct exposure to XRP and is issued under a prospectus approved by Germany's financial regulator BaFin. 
Originally launched in 2022 by ETC Group, the ETP is now part of Bitwise's growing portfolio following its acquisition of ETC Group earlier this year.

Hunter Horsley, CEO of Bitwise, praised XRP's utility and reliability, stating, "XRP and the XRP Ledger are among the most familiar and trusted blockchains in crypto."
XRP long-term holders realized profits exceeding $1.5 billion last week as the cryptocurrency soared to its highest price in three years, according to market data. 
This marks the largest profit realization for XRP since April 2021.
The Market Value to Realized Value (MVRV) ratio, a key market indicator, climbed to 217% on Tuesday, per a <a href="https://www.fxstreet.com/cryptocurrencies/news/ripple-donates-25-million-to-crypto-super-pac-again-amid-record-profit-taking-levels-among-xrp-investors-202411262145">report</a> from FXStreet citing Santiment data.
The elevated MVRV ratio indicates that XRP's current market valuation is significantly higher than its average purchase price. 
While this suggests substantial profits for holders, it also signals a potential overvaluation in the short term, which could hinder a continued rapid rally.
The MVRV ratio measures the total market value of all circulating coins against the aggregate cost basis of those coins, determined by the prices at which they were last moved on the blockchain. 
This metric provides insights into whether a cryptocurrency is overvalued or undervalued relative to its historical average acquisition cost.

A recent study by KnownHost revealed that nearly a third of these &#8220;deals&#8221; aren&#8217;t <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/psychology/24/11/42196027/amazon-dominates-holiday-shopping-as-black-friday-spending-soars-goldman-sachs">genuine savings at all.</a>
What To Know: An analysis of 65 of the most anticipated Black Friday <a href="https://www.knownhost.com/blog/what-products-have-the-highest-price-hikes-before-black-friday/">tech deals</a> from last year showed that, while 78% of products participated in sales, about 30% experienced price increases before the event to create the illusion of deeper discounts.

Only 42% of items had stable prices leading up to Black Friday before significant price drops, representing authentic deals. In comparison; 29% of products saw price hikes before Black Friday, with the average being a 20.5% increase, before dropping on the sale. 
According to the KnownHost report, Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AMZN#NASDAQ">AMZN</a>) products were some of the biggest offenders. The largest price hike in the week before Black Friday was Amazon&#8217;s Fire TV Stick, which saw its price double before the sales event. The price of Amazon's Echo Buds rose 46% and the Amazon Fire Max 11 Tablet saw a price increase of 35% in the week before Black Friday. 
Other products that saw large price increases were HP, Inc.'s (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/HPQ#NYSE">HPQ</a>) HP 14 laptop with a 27% increase and Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 5 phone up 16%. 
Benzinga has contacted Amazon for comment on the KnownHost report. 
Tech accessories are mostly likely to experience hikes ahead of Black Friday sales, the report showed, followed by headphones, smartwatches and laptops. 
TVs and tablets were the least likely to have seen increased prices leading up to Black Friday, and therefore, the categories where shoppers are most likely to find genuine savings. 
"Black Friday can be as good as it seems with genuine deals still available to save money and get presents just before Christmas, but checking these deals out beforehand is important," KnownHost said in its report.&nbsp;

President-elect Donald Trump is considering a proposal to establish <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cryptocurrency/24/11/42121376/strategic-bitcoin-reserve-wouldnt-require-new-taxpayer-dollars-says-sen-cynthia-lummis">a national Bitcoin reserve</a>, a move that could intertwine cryptocurrency with U.S. fiscal strategy.
What Happened: <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cryptocurrency/24/11/42122348/trumps-planned-crypto-council-may-oversee-bitcoin-reserve-report">Cryptocurrency executives are rallying</a> behind the idea, advocating for the U.S. government to acquire billions of dollars' worth of Bitcoin as a long-term asset, according to a <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2024/11/27/trump-strategic-bitcoin-reserve-plan/">report</a> by The Washington Post on Wednesday.
Proponents argue that Bitcoin's (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) value growth could help pay down the national debt, which now exceeds $36 trillion. 
However, critics warn of significant risks, citing the volatility of crypto markets and potential taxpayer exposure.
The plan has drawn mixed reactions. 
Trump has signaled openness to the idea, with a promise to stop federal sales of seized Bitcoin and instead build <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cryptocurrency/24/11/41986427/pennsylvania-introduces-bitcoin-strategic-reserve-act-to-invest-up-to-700-million-in-btc">a strategic reserve.</a>
Speaking at a summer conference, Trump stated, "For too long, the government has violated the cardinal rule that every Bitcoin owner knows by heart: Never sell your Bitcoin." 
He added that the reserve would become a "permanent national asset to benefit all Americans."
What Supporters Are Saying
Supporters claim that holding Bitcoin could be a transformative fiscal tool.
Cody Carbone, president of the Digital Chamber lobbying group, described Bitcoin as "<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cryptocurrency/24/11/42014415/bitcoin-and-gold-whats-all-the-fuss-about">digital gold</a>," asserting that a reserve would "set us up for massive financial success."
Andrew O'Neill, managing director at S&amp;P Global, echoed this sentiment, suggesting that Bitcoin's rising value could "pay off a significant chunk <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cryptocurrency/24/11/42205579/jim-cramer-says-bitcoin-and-ethereum-deserve-a-spot-in-your-portfolio-as-hedge-against-rising-us-debt-ive-liked-crypto-for-a-very-long-time">of national debt</a>."
Despite these bold claims, economists and financial experts remain skeptical. 
Mark Zandi, chief economist at Moody's Analytics, criticized the idea, stating, "There's just no discernible logic to do it. I get why the crypto investor would love it, but for taxpayers, it's risky." 
The unpredictable nature of Bitcoin's value has prompted concerns that acquiring it at current high prices could result in significant losses if the market crashes.
Additionally, some see the proposal as a boon for existing Bitcoin holders, whose portfolios would benefit if government purchases push prices higher.

What Critics Are Saying
Critics argue that such actions would primarily serve wealthy crypto investors while placing public funds at risk.
The U.S. government already holds roughly $20 billion worth of cryptocurrencies, <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cryptocurrency/24/07/39810138/by-dumping-50k-seized-bitcoins-at-the-wrong-time-germany-lost-an-amount-worth-more-than-th">primarily seized</a> through law enforcement actions.
Currently, these assets are periodically sold. 
Trump's proposal would halt these sales, turning seized Bitcoin into the foundation of a national reserve. 
His stance has energized the crypto market, with Bitcoin prices surging to $92,000 since his election victory.
Legislators aligned with Trump are also taking steps to institutionalize the idea. 
Sen. Cynthia Lummis (R-WY), a vocal crypto advocate, has introduced legislation proposing that the government acquire up to 1 million Bitcoins over the next two decades. 
Lummis claims the plan could cut the national debt in half without requiring taxpayer dollars, suggesting revaluation of U.S. gold reserves as a funding mechanism. 
"Not a single U.S. taxpayer dollar would go into the bill I filed,&#8221; she said.
However, experts warn that such measures, including gold revaluation, could be highly inflationary. 
Ananya Kumar, deputy director at the Atlantic Council's GeoEconomics Center, argued, "Because we cannot determine what the price of Bitcoin is going to be 20 years from now, it's hard to make the argument for Bitcoin over gold or another more stable asset."
The proposal has also drawn comparisons to historical milestones. 
Michael Saylor, executive chairman of MicroStrategy (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MSTR#NYSE">MSTR</a>) and a <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cryptocurrency/24/11/42152946/michael-saylor-reveals-microstrategy-is-making-500m-a-day-with-bitcoin">major Bitcoin investor</a>, likened a national Bitcoin reserve to the Louisiana Purchase, calling it "manifest destiny for the United States."
He added, "The Trump administration understands the transformative potential of this asset."

A widely expected increase in the October Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) price index — commonly regarded as the Federal Reserve's preferred inflation gauge — triggered fresh losses for the U.S. dollar, while Treasury yields and U.S. stocks <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/economics/macro-economic-events/24/11/42216384/feds-favorite-inflation-gauge-heats-up-as-predicted-personal-incomes-soar-december-interest-rate-cut-in-doubt">also slid in tandem.</a>
By 11:10 a.m. ET in New York, the U.S. Dollar Index (DXY), tracked by the Invesco DB USD Index Bullish Fund ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/UUP#NYSE">UUP</a>), was down 0.8%, reflecting broad weakness in the greenback. Meanwhile, 10-year Treasury yields fell by five basis points to 4.26%, and the S&amp;P 500, replicated by the SPDR S&amp;P 500 ETF Trust (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SPY#NYSE">SPY</a>), dropped 0.4%.
Tech stocks were hit harder, with the Nasdaq 100 — tracked by the Invesco QQQ Trust, Series 1 (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/QQQ#NASDAQ">QQQ</a>) — plunging 1.3%.
<h1 class="wp-block-heading">October PCE Inflation Matches Expectations</h1>
The headline PCE price index rose by 2.3% year-over-year in October, up from 2.1% in September, in line with forecasts. Core PCE inflation, which strips out volatile energy and food prices, also ticked higher, climbing from 2.7% to 2.8% annually, meeting economist predictions.
In a positive twist, personal spending and income data slightly beat expectations. Meanwhile, the second estimate for third-quarter U.S. GDP growth remained unchanged at a solid 2.8% annualized rate.
Joseph Brusuelas, economist at RSM US, highlighted the strength of household finances ahead of the critical holiday shopping season. &#8220;Strong personal spending and a 0.6% increase in personal income underscores just how robust the economy and households remain as we approach Black Friday and year-end 2024,&#8221; Brusuelas said.
Despite inflationary signals, Brusuelas maintains that the Federal Reserve is likely to lower interest rates by 25 basis points during its Dec. 18 meeting. Market-implied probabilities echoed this sentiment, with a 70% chance of a rate cut priced into futures markets.
<h1 class="wp-block-heading">Yen Surges On Bank of Japan Rate-Hike Bets</h1>
Yet, while U.S. economic data took center stage, Wednesday's market action appeared more influenced by carry-trade unwinding and growing speculation around a potential Bank of Japan (BOJ) interest rate hike in December.
The Japanese yen jumped 1.2% against the dollar, extending its winning streak to three consecutive sessions. 
Such a strong daily move by the yen certainly strides with statistics revealing an October U.S. inflation uptick. 
&#8220;Investors are betting on an interest-rate hike from the Bank of Japan next month,&#8221; noted BBVA forex strategist Alejandro Cuadrado in a client note on Tuesday.
The interest rate futures curve now implies a 65% probability of a BOJ rate hike in December, compared to just 30% at the start of November.
The yen's Wednesday outperformance has revived memories of the carry-trade turmoil from early August, when a sudden shift in yen-dollar dynamics sent shockwaves across global markets. 
Since that episode, the yen had depreciated by over 5% against the dollar, weighed down further by the victory of Donald Trump in the 2024 U.S. presidential elections.
