Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) has seen a stratospheric rise since its inception in 2009. Those who identified its potential and invested when it was still in its infancy have witnessed returns that very few assets can compete with.
What happened: Eric Elliott is one such Bitcoin OG who started mining the apex cryptocurrency in 2011.&nbsp;&nbsp;
Elliott, a computer developer, spent around $100 to create a computer geared for Bitcoin mining—the act of using computational power to solve complicated cryptographic problems and earning BTC as a reward.
"When I put it online, I was probably mining one Bitcoin a day," Elliott said during a 2013 interview with CNN Business. "I haven&#8217;t really spent much of the Bitcoins apart from reinvesting them in new hardware."

Assume Elliott mined 365 BTCs altogether in 2011, gave up mining altogether, and adopted a HODL approach. On Dec. 31, 2011, BTC traded at $4.61 apiece, meaning that his stash would be worth $1,682.75.
Fast forward to May 2025, when the apex cryptocurrency is worth $104,343.23. Had he held on to his stockpile, it would be worth $38.085 million today, representing an eye-popping 6100.76% return in 13.5 years.

While it is clear that Elliott sold the Bitcoin to cover mining costs, he made a candid admission during the interview.&nbsp;
"If you want to make money with Bitcoin, mining is not the way to do it. You&#8217;re better off trading Bitcoin," he said.
Given the significant increase in mining difficulty and expenses, about $137,000 per coin as of the fourth quarter of 2024, Elliott's advice appeared to have some merit.

This Bitcoin OG Mined 1 BTC A Day In 2011—Here's How Much A 365 BTC Stash Would Be Worth Now

Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSLA#NASDAQ">TSLA</a>) battery supplier Contemporary Amperex Technologies Co. Ltd., plans to raise over $4 billion through a stock listing on Hong Kong's stock exchange.
What Happened: The Chinese battery giant will aim to raise the figure by selling over 117.9 million shares priced at HK$263 ($33.75) on the Hong Kong stock exchange, Reuters reported on Monday.
The report also suggests that the deal could be raised to $5.3 billion if an offer size adjustment and a Greenshoe option are implemented, which essentially allows the underwriters to sell more shares if there is sufficient demand.
This is the biggest listing on the planet so far this year, the report said and the final price for the listing could be announced on or before May 19. The company says it will use the money raised to develop its Hungary manufacturing facility.
Why It Matters: News of the listing comes in as CATL <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/asia/25/02/43613949/tesla-supplier-catl-eyes-5-billion-hong-kong-listing-amid-us-sanctions-market-revival-report">was previously eyeing a listing</a> in Hong Kong worth over $5 billion amid growing U.S.-China trade tensions.
The China-based EV battery manufacturer had also recently taken the wraps off its new battery, which offers <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/25/04/44894382/tesla-battery-supplier-catl-unveils-new-fast-charging-battery-with-323-mile-range-in-five-minutes">over 323 miles of range</a> on a 5-minute charge.
CATL's clients include companies like Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSLA#NASDAQ">TSLA</a>), Ford Motor Co. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/F#NYSE">F</a>), as well as Volkswagen AG (OTCPK: VLKAF).
Elsewhere, the Chinese EV industry is making headway into other markets throughout the world, with BYD Co.Ltd (OTC:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BYDDF#OTC">BYDDF</a>) having laid out plans to construct a <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/04/45097773/satellite-images-put-tesla-rival-byds-hungarian-factory-capable-of-producing-200k-units-annually-in-the-spotlight">factory in Hungary</a> to aid its European strategy.
