Why the shift? Because <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cryptocurrency/25/04/44672506/blackrock-ceo-larry-fink-warns-many-already-believe-the-us-is-in-a-recession">the world has changed</a>.
Markets have evolved. Inflation won't stay silent. And bonds? Not the safe haven they once were. Fink argues that while private assets come with their own risks, they offer benefits that public markets can't always match—namely inflation protection, stability, and historically higher returns. "The appeal is clear," he wrote.
The case for infrastructure is especially compelling. Toll roads, utilities, and other revenue-generating infrastructure assets typically adjust with inflation. They're also less volatile than traditional stocks and bonds—something today's nervous investors won't overlook. As the chart in Fink's letter shows, portfolios that included infrastructure not only had better returns but also lower volatility.

Take a traditional 60/40 model portfolio, for example. With the addition of infrastructure, annualized returns moved higher, while volatility dropped. The same thing happened with pension portfolios. That's the bump—more return, less stress.
But there's a catch.
As Fink points out, the industry isn't built for a 50/30/20 world. Most asset managers still live in the 50/30 public market zone, while private market firms control the 20% piece. For individual investors, crossing into that private territory is tough. Even those with enough money to qualify might only have enough to invest in one fund—putting a fifth of their portfolio in a single vehicle. And that's not real diversification.
Fink believes BlackRock can fix that.

Just as it bridged the divide between index and active investing back in 2009 with its acquisition of Barclays Global Investors – the firm behind iShares ETFs – BlackRock is now working to unify public and private markets. In October, it took a major step in that direction by acquiring Global Infrastructure Partners. Two more acquisitions are expected to follow.
The 2009 move wasn't just about betting on ETFs. It was about giving investors the flexibility to combine strategies—to blend low-cost index funds with actively managed products. "Every investing decision is active," Fink noted, <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/personal-finance/25/02/44016490/21-year-old-pro-investor-challenges-dave-ramsey-show-hosts-on-index-funds-vs-mutual-funds-80-of-mutual-funds-dont-beat-the-market">even choosing an index</a>. Now, Fink sees the same chance to shake up investing all over again. His message? The old playbook's getting stale—it's time for an upgrade.

Turns out, plenty of Redditors could relate.
Some said they send their parents money monthly, even when it's a financial strain. Others described living with parents or covering expenses like rent, car payments, groceries and phone bills. A few mentioned they expect to support their parents for the rest of their lives, not out of wealth, but out of love and guilt.

But others pushed for boundaries. "If you're giving $400 a month and don't know where it's going, that's a problem," one person said. "You're not helping. You're enabling."
OP clarified in the thread that her mom did help with childcare early on, but that was years ago. Since then, she's been paying full-time daycare plus her mom's stipend.
"It irritates me that she brings up every excuse in the book as to why her finances are bad," she wrote.
Still, there were some who said they're happy to help their parents — if only because they know no one else will.

While the White House has not confirmed the cut, Rachel Cauley, a spokesperson for the Office of Management and Budget, said, &#8220;No final funding decisions have been made.&#8221;

The National Head Start Association called the proposal to eliminate the program &#8220;catastrophic&#8221; and warned it could result in more than 1 million parents losing access to affordable child care and preschool, disrupting their ability to work.

Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA), vice chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee, slammed the Trump administration's proposal in a statement released Monday.
&#8220;While families feel the crunch with a worsening child care crisis and much higher daily costs thanks to Trump's tariffs, President Trump wants to eliminate Head Start and kick hundreds of thousands of kids out of the classroom, fire teachers, and make child care and early learning more expensive and less safe,&#8221; Murray said in a <a href="https://www.murray.senate.gov/senator-murray-statement-on-trump-budget-proposal-to-fully-eliminate-head-start/">statement</a>.

Survey Unveils American Misconceptions About Credit Card Debt Management

When it comes to <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/personal-finance/25/04/44793077/retirement-nightmare-45-year-old-weighs-230k-lump-sum-vs-lifetime-pension-are-dividends-a-good-idea-for-me-reddit-reacts">retirement planning</a>, many Americans contribute to a traditional 401(k). But there&#8217;s another option available in most employer-sponsored retirement plans — and according to personal finance expert Suze Orman, far too few people are taking advantage of it.
The Roth 401(k) is a feature offered by roughly 90% of workplace retirement plans, yet only about 20% of participants are using it, according to Orman. She believes this overlooked strategy could offer major benefits, especially when it comes to taxes in retirement.

With a <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/personal-finance/25/03/44424162/its-a-really-really-bad-idea-suze-orman-warns-58-year-old-against-using-a-401k-to-buy-a-lifetime">traditional 401(k)</a>, your contributions are made with pre-tax dollars. That means you reduce your taxable income today, but you'll owe income tax on every dollar you withdraw in retirement.
A Roth 401(k), by contrast, is funded with after-tax dollars. You won't get a tax break up front, but qualified withdrawals in retirement are completely tax-free. That includes both your contributions and any investment earnings.
"So for those of you saving in a 401(k), I want you to check if your plan offers the Roth 401(k) option. Orman isn't advising anyone to convert their existing traditional 401(k) balances to a Roth — that move comes with a tax bill. Instead, she's suggesting that savers consider directing new contributions into a Roth 401(k), if their plan offers it.
This strategy, she says, could help reduce your taxable income in retirement. If you've already built up savings in a traditional 401(k), adding Roth savings to the mix gives you more flexibility. You'll be able to tap into tax-free funds in retirement, which could help you stay in a lower tax bracket and minimize required minimum distributions from your traditional accounts.

Medicare Part B premiums are based on your taxable income. Withdrawals from a traditional 401(k) count as taxable income, but withdrawals from a Roth 401(k) do not — assuming the account has been open for at least five years and you're 59½ or older.

Bill Ackman&#8216;s hedge fund Pershing Square Capital Management has acquired a significant stake in Hertz Global Holdings Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/HTZ#NYSE">HTZ</a>).
What Happened: The stake, which includes both&nbsp;share ownership and total return&nbsp;swaps, has been built up since the end of last year. 
Ackman is of the opinion that Hertz can bounce back from an ill-advised investment in&nbsp;Tesla Inc.&nbsp;(NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSLA#NASDAQ">TSLA</a>) electric vehicles and leverage a potential surge in used-car prices triggered by President Donald Trump&#8216;s&nbsp;tariff on US auto imports.

"Hertz is uniquely well-positioned in the current tariff environment. Hertz owns a fleet of over 500,000 vehicles valued at approximately $12 billion. A 10% increase in used car prices would equate to a $1.2 billion gain on its auto assets – equivalent to approximately half of the company's current market capitalization," Ackman added in the post.

Following the news, Hertz&#8217;s shares soared&nbsp;44% in New York trading&nbsp;on Thursday, doubling in value over a two-day rally. 
The company&#8217;s CEO, Gil West, who is responsible for managing the company&#8217;s significant debt and implementing the turnaround, expressed gratitude for Ackman&#8217;s support in a note to employees.
Ackman also suggested a future where Hertz, leveraging its global presence, could manage a fleet of autonomous vehicles for&nbsp;Uber Technologies Inc.&nbsp;(NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/UBER#NYSE">UBER</a>). Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi responded positively to the idea, expressing interest in expanding their existing partnership.

An administration official cited AmeriCorps&#8217; failure in eight consecutive audits and its management of&nbsp;over $1 billion in taxpayer&nbsp;dollars every year as reasons for the staff shake-up. AmeriCorps representatives have not responded to requests for comment.
