Rocket Lab USA, Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/RKLB#NASDAQ">RKLB</a>) shares are trading higher premarket on Monday after the company successfully completed its 56th Electron mission and finalized a&nbsp;$23.9 million&nbsp;award from the U.S. Department of Commerce.
The company deployed five satellites into Low Earth Orbit for French IoT constellation operator Kinéis.
Rocket Lab&#8217;s &#8220;Ice AIS Baby&#8221; mission successfully launched from New Zealand on November 25, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/24/11/b42156903/rocket-lab-successfully-launches-two-missions-in-less-than-24-hours" rel="noreferrer noopener">deploying five satellites into a 643 km orbit.</a>
The company set a record for its fastest turnaround, completing the launch just 21 hours and 55 minutes after another mission in Virginia.
This marks Rocket Lab&#8217;s 14th mission of 2024 and its 56th overall, bringing its total satellites launched to 203.
Rocket Lab founder and CEO Sir Peter Beck said, &#8220;Two successful launches less than 24 hours apart from pads in different hemispheres. That&#8217;s unprecedented capability in the small launch market and one we&#8217;re immensely proud to deliver at Rocket Lab.&#8221;

This month, the company also announced a multi-launch agreement with a confidential customer and was awarded a&nbsp;defense contract <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/contracts/24/11/41941068/rocket-lab-stock-is-blasting-off-wednesday-whats-going-on" rel="noreferrer noopener">worth up to $8 million</a>.

Why Is Rocket Lab USA Stock Surging Today?

Intellia Therapeutics, Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NTLA#NASDAQ">NTLA</a>), a leading clinical-stage gene editing company focused on revolutionizing medicine with CRISPR-based therapies, today announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted Regenerative Medicine Advanced Therapy (RMAT) designation to nexiguran ziclumeran (nex-z, also known as NTLA-2001) for the treatment of hereditary transthyretin (ATTR) amyloidosis with polyneuropathy (ATTRv-PN). Nex-z is an in vivo&nbsp;CRISPR-based investigational&nbsp;therapy designed as a single-dose treatment to inactivate the&nbsp;TTR&nbsp;gene and thereby prevent the production of TTR protein for the treatment of ATTR amyloidosis. Development and commercialization of nex-z is led by Intellia as part of a multi-target collaboration with Regeneron.
"This RMAT designation underscores the transformative potential of nex-z, our investigational in vivo CRISPR-based gene editing therapy for those living with hereditary ATTR amyloidosis with polyneuropathy," said Intellia President and Chief Executive Officer John Leonard, M.D. "It was granted following the FDA's review of our compelling interim Phase 1 data that indicated our one-time treatment led to rapid, deep and durable TTR reduction, which is expected to halt and potentially reverse the disease. We look forward to working closely with the FDA to bring this potential paradigm-shifting therapy to patients as quickly as possible."
The RMAT designation was established under the 21st Century Cures Act to expedite the development and review of promising therapeutic candidates, including genetic therapies, that are intended to treat, modify, reverse or cure a serious or life-threatening disease. RMAT designation includes benefits, such as early interactions with the FDA, including discussions on surrogate or intermediate endpoints that could potentially support accelerated approval and satisfy post-approval requirements, and potential priority review of a product's biologics license application (BLA).
This RMAT designation is the third special regulatory designation received by Intellia for nex-z. Nex-z was also granted Orphan Drug Designation by the U.S. FDA and European Union Orphan Drug Designation by the European Commission.
About nexiguran ziclumeran (nex-z, also known as NTLA-2001) Based on Nobel Prize-winning CRISPR/Cas9 technology, nex-z has the potential to become the first one-time treatment for transthyretin (ATTR) amyloidosis. Nex-z is designed to inactivate the&nbsp;TTR&nbsp;gene that encodes for the transthyretin (TTR) protein. Interim Phase 1 clinical data showed the administration of nex-z led to consistent, deep and long-lasting TTR reduction. Cassava Sciences, Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SAVA#NASDAQ">SAVA</a>, "Cassava", the "Company"))), a clinical-stage biotechnology company focused on developing a novel, investigational treatment for Alzheimer's disease (AD) dementia, today announced that the topline results from the Phase 3 ReThink-ALZ study of simufilam in mild-to-moderate AD did not meet each of the pre-specified co-primary, secondary and exploratory biomarker endpoints. The co-primary endpoints were the change in cognition and function from baseline to the end of the double-blind treatment period at week 52, assessed by the ADAS-COG12 and ADCS-ADL scales, comparing simufilam to placebo. Simufilam continued to demonstrate an overall favorable safety profile. The Company will hold a webcast today at 8 AM ET.
"The results are disappointing for patients and their families who are living with this disease and physicians who have been looking for novel treatment options. We took careful measures to enroll patients with mild-to-moderate AD. Despite that, the loss of cognition in the placebo group was less pronounced than was previously reported in other placebo-controlled studies in AD. We are working to understand this better," said Rick Barry, President and Chief Executive Officer. "A result like this has implications on our second Phase 3 trial,&nbsp;ReFocus-ALZ. We have made the difficult decision to discontinue ReFocus-ALZ, given the nature of today's reported results. The complete 52-week dataset will be available from the study along with a large portion of 76-week data. We intend to report detailed analyses of both studies in the future. We will also be discontinuing the Open Label Extension study."
Mr. Barry continued, "We have a special gratitude for the patients and their families and caregivers who participated in our clinical program for AD. We are also immensely grateful to our employees, study investigators and site coordinators, as well as our other partners, for their commitment to this program. We hope the information we have gathered can ultimately be used to benefit ongoing research in AD."

MicroStrategy Inc. However, skeptics, including popular analyst &#8216;Kryptokrates,&#8217; caution that the strategy comes with significant risks, raising questions about its long-term viability.
Bernstein lauded MicroStrategy's innovative model, which <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/24/11/42151809/michael-saylor-reveals-microstrategy-is-making-500m-a-day-with-bitcoin-may-very-well-be-the-most-profitable-company-in-the-us-growing-the-fastest-right-now">leverages convertible debt</a> and equity raises to amass Bitcoin.
The firm's current holdings of ~300,000 BTC are valued at $32 billion, acquired at an average cost of ~$49,900 per Bitcoin. 
Bernstein projects MicroStrategy could increase its holdings to 4% of the world's Bitcoin by 2033, assuming Bitcoin reaches $1 million per coin.
"MicroStrategy's Bitcoin treasury model is unprecedented," Bernstein noted. "A company on an insatiable path to attract billions in global capital to invest in Bitcoin."
MicroStrategy has raised more than $7 billion in convertible debt, with a long-term plan to secure $42 billion in capital by 2027. 
<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cryptocurrency/24/11/42138209/microstrategy-trading-at-insane-256-premium-to-bitcoin-holdings-research-shows">Its approach</a> involves adding Bitcoin to the balance sheet, increasing stock volatility and using convertible debt to enable low-cost capital raises.

While Bernstein remains bullish, critics like Kryptokrates argue that MicroStrategy's financial engineering introduces systemic risks.
