The U.S. Dollar Index (DXY) recorded its sharpest one-day rally in over eight years on Wednesday as Donald Trump secured victory in <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/economics/macro-economic-events/24/11/41772701/trumps-historic-return-7-ways-his-second-term-could-impact-the-us-economy">the 2024 presidential election. </a>
This currency-weighted gauge of the dollar – as tracked by the Invesco DB USD Index Bullish Fund ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/UUP#NYSE">UUP</a>) – jumped nearly 1.8% in early New York trading, marking the steepest rise since June 24, 2016, when the British pound plummeted following the Brexit referendum, sparking a similar dollar spike.

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Global Forex Markets Face Wild Moves As Trump Return To White House</h3>
The dollar surged across the board, with notable gains against the euro, Chinese yuan and Mexican peso amid market concerns over potential U.S. trade tariffs under the Trump administration.
The euro, tracked by the Invesco CurrencyShares Euro Currency Trust (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/FXE#NYSE">FXE</a>), fell below $1.07, down over 2.1% in its worst session since March 2020. 
Last week, JPMorgan had projected that <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/24/11/41741466/if-trump-and-republicans-sweep-dollar-may-climb-7-but-harris-win-could-bring-5-drop-says-jpmorgan">a Republican clean sweep could weaken the euro</a> by as much as 8.4%, with analysts citing a potential widening in the U.S.-EU monetary policy gap. Higher inflation in the U.S. may prompt the Federal Reserve to maintain or hike interest rates, while the European Central Bank (ECB) could face pressure to cut rates, analysts said.
The Chinese yuan also took a hit, declining 1.2%, hitting 7.1960 — its largest drop in two years. Trump's promise to impose tariffs as high as 60% on Chinese imports fueled concerns of escalating trade tensions.
&#8220;The 7.2000 level is a critical psychological threshold, which, if breached, could prompt intervention by Chinese monetary authorities," highlighted Luca Cigognini, market strategist at Banca IMI.
The Mexican peso was another major losers, slumping 2.7% to its lowest level since August 2022. 
"We anticipate that some pragmatism will prevail, with partial reversals in the medium term," said Alejandro Cuadrado, chief market strategist at BBVA.
Meanwhile, the Canadian dollar, though down 0.8% against the greenback, outperformed other major currencies. 
"A Republican clean sweep bodes well for U.S. economic growth and Canadian exporters," said Francesco Pesole, foreign exchange analyst at ING Group, adding that Canada's currency remains relatively insulated from U.S.-China tariff dynamics and geopolitical risks under a Trump presidency.

The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SMG#NYSE">SMG</a>) announced its results Wednesday for the full year and fourth quarter ended Sept. 30, 2024.
"Fiscal 2024 was a strong transition year for the Company in which we continued to transform the business while achieving meaningful top-and bottom-line growth in our core business," said Matt Garth, the company's CFO and chief administrative officer. "We made strategic investments in marketing and innovation to drive sales and support the long-term health of our brands powered by additional efficiency gains across our organization."
Net sales for the company's subsidiary for cannabis growers, Hawthorne Gardening Company, decreased 46% year-over-year to $80.5 million in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2024. The Ohio-based gardening giant reported this trend in <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cannabis/24/07/40075102/scotts-miracle-gros-cannabis-focused-subsidiary-reports-28-yoy-drop-in-q3-net-sales-reaffirms-20">the previous quarter</a> as well, which it attributed to the previously announced discontinuation of its third-party distributed brands business.

<li>Non-GAAP adjusted net loss for the quarter, which excludes impairment, restructuring and other non-recurring items, was a loss of $131.5 million, or $2.31 per share, compared to a loss of $155.4 million, or $2.77 per share, for the same period last year.</li>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">FY 2024 Financial Highlights</h3>

<li>Total net sales were roughly flat compared to the prior year at $3.6 billion.</li>
<li>U.S. Consumer segment sales increased 6% year-over-year, to $3 billion, driven by incremental shelf space, new listings and promotions mainly in the gardens and controls businesses.</li>
<li>Sales for the Hawthorne segment decreased 37% year-over-year to $294.7 million, primarily due to the discontinuation of its third-party distribution business.</li>
<li>The company-wide gross margin rate was 23.9% on a GAAP basis and 26.3% on a non-GAAP adjusted basis compared with rates of 18.5% and 23.7%, respectively, a year ago.</li>
<li>Selling, general and administrative expenses of $559 million were 15.7% of net sales, a 9% decrease from fiscal 2022 reflecting the company's previously announced cost-reduction efforts.</li>
<li>Other operating expenses were $19.9 million primarily due to the discount cost on sales of accounts receivable under the company's accounts receivable sale agreement.</li>
<li>GAAP net loss was $34.9 million, or $0.61 per share, compared with a loss of $380.1 million, or $6.79 per share, in the prior year.</li>
<li>Non-GAAP adjusted EBITDA was $510.1 million for fiscal 2024 including one-time charges of $29 million related to the AeroGarden write-down and other items, compared to $446.9 million last year.</li>

(NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CANG#NYSE">CANG</a>) ("Cango" or the "Company"), a leading automotive transaction service platform in China, today announced that it has entered into agreements to purchase on-rack crypto mining machines with an aggregate hashrate of 50 Exahash per second ("EH") for total considerations valued at approximately US$400 million from a group of sellers. The largest seller will be Bitmain Technologies Georgia Limited and Bitmain Development Limited (together, "Bitmain"), a leading manufacturer of digital currency mining servers, and the Company has agreed to purchase from Bitmain on-rack crypto mining machines with an aggregate hashrate of 32EH for a total purchase price of US$256 million in cash (the "Cash-Settled Transaction"). The Company has also agreed to purchase the remaining on-rack crypto mining machines with an aggregate hashrate of 18EH from Golden TechGen Limited ("GT"), a company incorporated under the laws of the British Virgin Islands and wholly owned by Mr. Max HUA ("Mr. Hua"), former chief financial officer of Bitmain and the sole shareholder of GT, and certain other sellers, and will pay the purchase price through issuance of an aggregate of approximately 145,658,192 Class A ordinary shares of the Company (valued at US$144 million) to the sellers in proportion to the aggregate hashrate of the machines to be sold by each seller (the "Share-Settled Transactions", and together with the Cash-Settled Transaction, the "Proposed Transactions").

If the market capitalization of the Company calculated based on the daily volume-weighted average trading price of the Company's ADSs over any consecutive 30-trading days during the 30-month period after closing of the Share-Settled Transactions reaches US$1,825,000,000 (the "Bonus Triggering Event"), the Company agreed to issue at par value approximately 97,105,461 additional Class A ordinary shares to all the sellers in the Share-Settled Transactions as bonus payment in proportion to the aggregate hashrate of the machines to be sold by each seller, and the Company agreed to issue warrants to the sellers that will allow them to exercise such rights within 3 months after the Bonus Triggering Event. &nbsp;Furthermore, if the net asset value (after certain adjustments) of the Company's existing business in China is reduced by RMB50 million or more by the end of 2026 as compared to such value as of September 30, 2024 (the "Adjustment Event"), the Company will be required to issue additional Class A ordinary shares to the Sellers based on the reduced amount. &#8220;We&#8217;re on the verge of a vicious cycle, in which fewer and fewer people can afford the American dream of homeownership. That&#8217;s not good for America,&#8221; Escobar said Monday, addressing the trade group&#8217;s 275,000 members.
The housing shortage has reached critical levels, with the U.S. facing a deficit of 1.5 million homes, according to Escobar. She pointed to <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/real-estate/24/09/41082529/its-not-a-housing-crisis-but-a-housing-policy-crisis-homebuilders-call-out-roadblocks-as-prices-surg">decades of regulatory barriers that have made it increasingly difficult to construct new homes or renovate existing ones</a>, particularly for smaller builders.
Government regulations add nearly $94,000 to the average price of a new home, according to Market Watch, which cited a 2021 National Association of Home Builders study. Construction costs have risen sharply, with labor and materials expenses jumping 31% since the start of the COVID pandemic.

The impact of the constraints is evident in markets nationwide. In Las Vegas, 34-year-old Andy Balmert spent eight months searching for a home before finally purchasing a two-bedroom condo, made possible only through a $50,000 grant program targeting middle-class buyers.
&#8220;Not as many are wanting to buy houses. But even those who want to simply can&#8217;t without some sort of assistance,&#8221; Justin Jones, a Clark County commissioner, said to Bloomberg.
Restrictive zoning laws compound the problem, with roughly 75% of residential land in the U.S. restricted to single-family homes, Escobar noted. She plans to campaign for loosening regulations in mortgage lending and home building.
The crisis has particularly affected middle-income households. Federal loan data cited by Bloomberg shows that 58% of mid-income households approved for mortgages last year had debt-to-income ratios exceeding 40%, which is the highest level since at least 2018.

Market conditions remain challenging, with 30-year mortgage rates hovering near 7% and home prices at record levels. According to Fannie Mae, returning to 2016-2019 affordability levels would require either a 38% drop in median home prices, a 60% increase in median household income, or mortgage rates falling to 2.35%.
As the housing crisis moves to the center of national politics, both major presidential candidates have proposed solutions. However, some experts remain skeptical about federal intervention&#8217;s effectiveness.
&#8220;The focus has to be on the supply side,&#8221; Mark Fleming, chief economist at First American Financial Corp, said to Bloomberg. &#8220;The challenge is that there&#8217;s not a lot that the federal government can do. A lot of it is sort of local zoning, local regulatory hurdles.&#8221;

'Stop Talking About Affordability' — Real Estate Exec Calls On Lawmakers To Act On Housing Costs

Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/QCOM#NASDAQ">QCOM</a>) will release earnings results for its fourth quarter, after the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/qcom/earnings">closing bell on Wednesday, Nov. 6.</a>
Wall Street expects the San Diego, California-based company to report quarterly earnings at $2.56 per share, up from $2.02 per share in the year-ago period. The company projects to report revenue of $9.9 billion, compared to $8.66 billion a year earlier, according to data from <a href="https://pro.benzinga.com/dashboard">Benzinga Pro</a>.
On Tuesday, JPMorgan analyst Samik Chatterjee maintained Qualcomm with an Overweight and lowered the price target from $210 to $195.
With the recent buzz around Qualcomm ahead of quarterly earnings, some investors may be eyeing potential gains from the company's dividends, too. Qualcomm currently offers an annual dividend yield of 2.05%. That&#8217;s a quarterly dividend amount of 85 cents per share ($3.40 a year).
To figure out how to earn $500 monthly from Qualcomm, we start with a yearly target of $6,000 ($500 x 12 months).
Next, we take this amount and divide it by Qualcomm's $3.40 dividend: $6,000 / $3.40 = 1,765 shares.
So, an investor would need to own approximately $292,831 worth of Qualcomm, or 1,765 shares to generate a monthly dividend income of $500.
Assuming a more conservative goal of $100 monthly ($1,200 annually), we do the same calculation: $1,200 / $3.40 = 353 shares, or $58,566 to generate a monthly dividend income of $100.
Note that dividend yield can change on a rolling basis, as the dividend payment and the stock price both fluctuate over time.
The dividend yield is calculated by dividing the annual dividend payment by the stock price. As the stock price changes, the dividend yield will also change.
For example, if a stock pays an annual dividend of $2 and its price is $50, its dividend yield would be 4%. However, if the stock price increases to $60, the dividend yield would decrease to 3.33% ($2/$60).
Conversely, if the stock price decreases to $40, the dividend yield would increase to 5% ($2/$40).
Further, the dividend payment itself can also change over time, which can also impact the dividend yield. If a company increases its dividend payment, the dividend yield will increase even if the stock price remains the same. Similarly, if a company decreases its dividend payment, the dividend yield will decrease.
Price Action: Shares of Qualcomm gained by 0.4% to close at $165.91 on Tuesday.
