Denmark is poised to cement its place as a leader in <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/medical-cannabis">medical cannabis</a> regulation. On November 19, Minister of the Interior and Health Sophie Løhde <a href="https://www.ism.dk/nyheder/2024/november/regeringen-vil-goere-ordning-med-medicinsk-cannabis-paa-recept-permanent">proposed</a> making the country's medical cannabis trial scheme permanent, a bold move following <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cannabis/23/10/35346758/europes-high-irish-gps-against-pot-switzerland-spain-share-data-on-cannabis-clubs-more">years of steady growth</a> in patient participation.
<h4 class="wp-block-heading">Medical Cannabis Success in Denmark</h4>
The trial scheme, introduced in 2018, aimed to provide patients with conditions such as multiple sclerosis and cancer access to medical cannabis treatments. Extended in 2021, the program is set to expire at the end of 2025. However, its success has been undeniable. Over the last three years, more than 20,000 prescriptions have been redeemed, and approximately 1,800 patients are currently benefiting from cannabis-based medicines.
Minister Løhde highlighted the program&#8217;s impact: "We see that many patients who receive medical cannabis prescriptions appear to benefit from the treatment. This includes cancer patients suffering from severe nausea after chemotherapy and people with multiple sclerosis experiencing intense pain."
<h4 class="wp-block-heading">The Road to Permanency</h4>
The government's proposal reflects its commitment to ensuring continued legal access to medical cannabis for patients. Minister Løhde emphasized the need for collaboration, stating, "We first need to hear the perspectives of the parties involved in the agreement."
On November 19, Løhde invited representatives from political groups behind the original agreement—SF, Liberal Alliance, Red-Green Alliance, Danish People&#8217;s Party, and the Alternative—to discuss the scheme's future.
<h4 class="wp-block-heading">Industry Support</h4>
Denmark's cannabis industry also welcomed the news. Thomas Skovlund Schnegelsberg, CEO of Danish MMJ producer Stenocare, expressed optimism about the proposal. "It is excellent news for patients and Stenocare that the government is now taking steps toward permanent legalization. We are confident that the future of medical cannabis treatment is in good hands," adding that "the permanent legalization will establish a clear framework for the future, offering clarity beyond December 2025 and justifying investments in new products that deliver value to both doctors and patients."
As negotiations unfold, Denmark appears ready to solidify its role as a pioneer in regulated medical cannabis, offering hope and legal options to patients across the country.

<li>Record second quarter non-GAAP operating margin of 29%. </li>
<li>Returned $406 million to stockholders through share repurchases and cash dividends. </li>

NetApp Stock Climbs After Better-Than-Expected Q2 Results

Cryptocurrency Ethereum (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/eth/usd">ETH</a>) has soared over the past week, but remains well below the all-time highs <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/24/11/42018208/bitcoin-ethereum-dogecoin-pepe-shiba-inu-benzinga-readers-pick-this-crypto-to-have-the-biggest-gain-before-end-of-2025">set back in 2021.</a>
While Ethereum&#8217;s gains in 2024 are less than those of other cryptocurrencies, the second-largest crypto still trades significantly higher than when it launched in 2015.
What Happened: Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin proposed the digital currency via a 2014 white paper, with the goal of adding scripting to make it easier for application development and to <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cryptocurrency/21/09/22811912/5-things-you-might-not-know-about-ethereum-creator-vitalik-buterin-3" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">set up binding contracts.</a>
Ethereum was officially launched on July 30, 2015. During its first calendar year, Ethereum traded between $0.42 and $1.39 with a starting price of around $0.74 according to&nbsp;<a href="https://www.sofi.com/learn/content/ethereum-price-history/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">SoFi</a>. The first Ethereum transaction was carried out on Aug. 7, 2015,&nbsp;<a href="https://www.globaldata.com/data-insights/financial-services/ethereums-price-history/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">according&nbsp;</a>to Global Data.
Ethereum gained momentum thanks to its listing on cryptocurrency platform&nbsp;Coinbase Global Inc&nbsp;(NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/COIN#NASDAQ">COIN</a>). It became the second-ever cryptocurrency, after&nbsp;Bitcoin&nbsp;(CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>), to be listed on the platform.
Over the years there have been several major events and updates to Ethereum including the fork of Ethereum 2.0 and&nbsp;Ethereum Classic&nbsp;(CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/etc/usd">ETC</a>).
Ethereum saw increased attention and a surge in valuation related to the boom of non-fungible tokens in 2021. Many of the NFTs were built on the Ethereum blockchain, including&nbsp;CryptoPunks&nbsp;and&nbsp;Bored Ape Yacht Club. A record sale of a&nbsp;Beeple&nbsp;NFT&nbsp;<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cryptocurrency/21/03/20134939/beeple-nft-sold-for-a-record-69-million" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">created interest in NFTs&nbsp;</a>and Ethereum.
Today, Ethereum is the second most valuable cryptocurrency with a market capitalization of $403.1 billion.

Investing $1,000 in Ethereum:&nbsp;An investment in the second largest cryptocurrency the year it launched would have generated a strong return for investors.
While it was harder to invest in Ethereum prior to its inclusion on major cryptocurrency exchanges, investors were able to purchase the crypto after it launched.
Based on a starting price of $0.74, an investor could have purchased 1,351.35 ETH at the time of launch.
The $1,000 investment in Ethereum at launch would be worth $4,512,009.00 today based on a price of $3,338.89 at the time of writing.
At its all-time high of $4,815 set in November 2021, the $1,000 investment in Ethereum at the time of launch would have been worth $6,506,750.25.
Ethereum has traded between $1,988.12 and $4,092.28 over the last 52 weeks. There is no guarantee that the cryptocurrency will return to yearly or all-time highs.
While many missed out on investing in Ethereum in the early days, the exercise shows that sometimes investing a small amount in a high-conviction idea can have a huge payout in the future.
Ethereum is nearing its one-year high and could be headed towards its all-time high set on Nov. 16, 2021.

American States Water Company (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AWR#NYSE">AWR</a>) announced that on November 15, 2024, its regulated water utility subsidiary, Golden State Water Company ("GSWC"), received a proposed decision from the assigned administrative law judge at the California Public Utilities Commission ("CPUC") in connection with the pending general rate case proceeding that will determine new water rates for the years 2025 – 2027. A final decision by the CPUC is expected as soon as the end of the fourth quarter of 2024. When a final decision is issued by the CPUC, the new rates for 2025 will be effective January 1, 2025.
On July 12, 2024, GSWC and the Public Advocates Office ("Cal Advocates") at the CPUC filed a joint motion to adopt a settlement agreement between GSWC and Cal Advocates in the general rate case proceeding. The proposed decision approves and adopts the settlement agreement in its entirety. Among other things, the settlement agreement authorizes GSWC to invest approximately $573.1 million in capital infrastructure over the three-year cycle in order to continue to provide safe and reliable water utility service to its customers, which includes $17.7 million of advice letter capital investments to be filed for revenue recovery during the second and third year attrition increases when those projects are completed. In addition, the settlement agreement approves $58.2 million of advice letter capital investments already under construction beginning in 2023 also to be filed for revenue recovery during the second and third year attrition increases when those projects are completed. The settlement agreement also allows for additional increases in adopted revenues for 2026 and 2027 subject to an earnings test and changes to the forecasted inflationary index values. Actual increases for 2026 and 2027 will be determined at the time the filings to implement the new rate increases are approved by the CPUC, and will be calculated using inflationary index values at that time.
Furthermore, the proposed decision addressed the two remaining unresolved 2025 revenue requirement issues related to GSWC's sales forecast and supply mix. The proposed decision adopts GSWC's recommended sales forecast and adopts a supply mix that splits the difference between GSWC's and Cal Advocates' forecasts. The proposed decision also addressed the unresolved issues related to GSWC's requests for certain regulatory mechanisms. With regards to these requests, the proposed decision (i) rejects GSWC's request for continuation of a full sales and revenue decoupling mechanism and a full cost balancing account for water supply, and instead orders GSWC to transition to a modified rate adjustment mechanism (a Monterey-style WRAM or "M-WRAM") and an incremental cost balancing account for supply costs, (ii) rejects GSWC's sales reconciliation and supply mix adjustment mechanisms, and (iii) rejects GSWC's request to modify the existing per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances ("PFAS") memorandum account to track carrying costs on capital investments needed to comply with the new PFAS maximum contaminant levels established by the Environmental Protection Agency, and instead orders GSWC to file for recovery of PFAS-related capital projects through a separate application or future general rate case. The proposed decision adopts GSWC's M-WRAM rate design proposal, authorizing GSWC to increase the revenue requirement in its service charges to between 45-48% depending on the ratemaking area representing approximately 65% of GSWC's fixed costs in aggregate. GSWC will file comments on the proposed decision by December 5, 2024. The proposed decision is scheduled to be voted on by the CPUC on December 19, 2024.

(NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CCG#NASDAQ">CCG</a>) ("Cheche" or the "Company"), China's leading auto insurance technology platform, today announced that it received a notification letter dated November 15, 2024 (the "Notification Letter "), from the Listing Qualifications Department of The Nasdaq Stock Market Inc. (the "Nasdaq"), indicating that the Company is no longer in compliance with the minimum bid price requirement set forth in Rule 5550(a)(2) of the Nasdaq Listing Rules as the Company's closing bid price per Class A ordinary share, par value US$0.00001 per share, has been below US$1.00 for a period of 30 consecutive business days. The Notification Letter does not result in the immediate delisting of the Company's securities.
The Company would like to clarify that the Notification Letter has no current effect on the listing or trading of the Company's securities on Nasdaq. Pursuant to Rule 5810(c)(3)(A) of the Nasdaq Listing Rules, the Company has a compliance period of 180 calendar days, or until May 14, 2025&nbsp;(the "Compliance Period"), to regain compliance with Nasdaq's minimum bid price requirement. I&rsquo;ve been tasked with recommending three big data stocks to sell in February.&nbsp;



There&rsquo;s no question that 2023 was the year of artificial intelligence (<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/ai-stock-quote/">AI</a>). A day didn&rsquo;t go by when a story about AI appeared in the investment media. One area of technology that relies heavily on AI is big data. TechTarget.com contributor Kathleen Walch in a Dec. 21, 2023, article about enterprise AI <a href="https://www.techtarget.com/searchenterpriseai/tip/How-do-big-data-and-AI-work-together">stated</a>:&nbsp;




&ldquo;Companies used to move data into and out of data warehouses and create static reports that take a long time to generate and even longer to modify. Now, smart organizations are utilizing distributed, automated and intelligent analytics tools that sit on top of data lakes designed to collect and synthesize data from disparate sources at once. This is transforming the way companies understand their customers.&rdquo;




Not all big data stocks are alike. Some data analytics companies are better than others. Some use AI more than others.&nbsp;



Suppose you&rsquo;re interested in gaining exposure to big data and AI. In that case, you might be better off investing in an ETF such as the ProShares Big Data Refiners ETF (NYSEARCA:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/dat-stock-quote/">DAT</a>), which <a href="https://www.proshares.com/our-etfs/strategic/dat">invests in companies</a> that provide data analytics and data processing software and services.&nbsp;&nbsp;



However, if you&rsquo;re looking for big data stocks to buy, these are three holdings from DAT to avoid, and if you happen to own them already, here&rsquo;s why you should consider selling them.&nbsp;&nbsp;



<h2>MicroStrategy (MSTR)</h2>

MicroStrategy&rsquo;s (NASDAQ:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/mstr-stock-quote/">MSTR</a>) chart before and after the pandemic illustrates the change in the volatility of its share price. Between Sept. 2017 and July 2020, its shares traded in a very tight range between $120 and $130.&nbsp;



The data analytics company invested in Bitcoin in <a href="https://finance.yahoo.com/news/microstrategy-becomes-first-listed-company-113746283.html">Aug. 2020</a>, and everything changed for the better and the worse.



MicroStrategy was the first public company to buy Bitcoin (<a href="https://investorplace.com/cryptocurrency/btc-usd/">BTC-USD</a>). It bought 21,454 Bitcoins for approximately $250 million. It did so as a way to avoid inflation.



In the quarter before buying Bitcoin (Q2 2020), MicroStrategy had <a href="https://www.sec.gov/ixviewer/ix.html?doc=/Archives/edgar/data/0001050446/000156459020033897/mstr-10q_20200630.htm">$420.9 million</a> in cash and cash equivalents plus $110.0 million in short-term investments for a total cash position of $531 million, or 64% of its total assets.&nbsp;&nbsp;



In Q3 2020, it bought <a href="https://www.sec.gov/ixviewer/ix.html?doc=/Archives/edgar/data/0001050446/000156459020047995/mstr-10q_20200930.htm">$425 million</a> in Bitcoin, adding $175 million to its position after the August purchase. It purchased 38,250 Bitcoins in the third quarter at an average of $11,111 per Bitcoin. As a result of the transaction, its total cash went from 64% to 6.8% of its total assets. Digital Assets became a new line item on its balance sheet.&nbsp;



Fast forward to Q3 2023. It had total cash of $45.0 million, or 1.3% of its total assets, while its digital assets were $2.45 billion, or 72.7%.&nbsp;&nbsp;



While I don&rsquo;t have a problem with its operating business &mdash; its top-line revenue grew 3.3% year-over-year in the third quarter &mdash; its actual business performance gets significantly obscured by its investment in Bitcoin.



If you want to invest in data analytics stocks, there are better ways to do it.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;



<h2>CommVault Systems (CVLT)</h2>

CommVault Systems (NASDAQ:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/cvlt-stock-quote/">CVLT</a>) is the second-largest holding of DAT with a weighting of 5.27%. The company, which provides more than 100,000 customers with a data management platform, has started the year in fine form, up more than 21%. However, over the past five years, it&rsquo;s failed to gain much traction, up 37%.&nbsp;



CommVault stock is relatively expensive.&nbsp;



The company&rsquo;s outlook on Jan. 30 for 2024 sales was <a href="https://ir.commvault.com/news-releases/news-release-details/commvault-announces-fiscal-2024-third-quarter-financial-results">$830 million</a> at the high end of its guidance. That&rsquo;s 4.9x sales, higher than its five-year average of <a href="https://www.morningstar.com/stocks/xnas/cvlt/valuation">3.7x</a>. As for free cash flow (<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/fcf-stock-quote/">FCF</a>) yield, it expects a free cash flow of $170 million for fiscal 2024. Based on an enterprise value of $3.89 billion, an FCF yield of 4.3%.&nbsp;



I prefer an FCF yield of 8% or more, which provides a margin of safety and value. Anything between 4% and 8% is fair value. However, at 4.3%, that&rsquo;s bordering on expensive.&nbsp;



Of the <a href="https://www.cnn.com/markets/stocks/CVLT">10 analysts</a> covering CVLT stock, only 40% rate it a Buy, with a target price of $96, 4% higher than where it&rsquo;s currently trading, so Wall Street doesn&rsquo;t see much upside in 2024.&nbsp;



CEO Sanjay Mirchandani said after it reported Q3 2024 results in a Barron&rsquo;s interview that <a href="https://www.barrons.com/articles/commvault-earnings-stock-price-a1e3f2f3">the company&rsquo;s results</a> in the quarter were the best it&rsquo;s delivered over its 27 years in business.&nbsp;



I might be in the minority, but something tells me that $100 won&rsquo;t be in the cards for CVLT in 2024. It might be time to take profits if you&rsquo;ve made money off its move over the past year.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;



<h2>Genius Sports (GENI)</h2>

Genius Sports (NYSE:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/geni-stock-quote/">GENI</a>) is the 25th-largest holding of DAT with a weighting of 1.20%. Its shares are up a whopping 23% in 2024. Analysts love this stock &mdash; of the 11 covering it, <a href="https://www.cnn.com/markets/stocks/geni">91%</a> rate it a Buy &mdash; so this is another one of my contrarian bets against big data plays.&nbsp;



GENI stock has prospered over the past year as sports betting in North America has taken off. Genius helps sports-related businesses <a href="https://investors.geniussports.com/why-invest/default.aspx">monetize their data</a> through its innovative products and services.&nbsp;



As the company points out on its investor relations page, more than 97% of licensed U.S. sportsbooks use the official data it receives through its partnership with the NFL.&nbsp;&nbsp;



Edge is an example of the <a href="https://investors.geniussports.com/news/news-details/2024/Genius-Sports-launches-revolutionary-Edge-solution-to-increase-sportsbook-profitability/default.aspx">product</a> it delivers for its sportbook customers. It&rsquo;s an automated pricing tool that enables them to maximize profitability on each bet on thousands of sporting events at any given time.&nbsp;



The skeptic in me wonders how useful this tool will be for sportsbooks in the long term. After all, the people behind sportsbooks aren&rsquo;t dummies. They&rsquo;ve got years of data about bets won and lost by their betting customers.&nbsp;



Companies like DraftKings (NASDAQ:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/dkng-stock-quote/">DKNG</a>) will eventually create their own software data analysis tools to generate higher profits from each bet. At what point does Genius Sports&rsquo; technology become obsolete? Sooner than you might think.&nbsp;



In the meantime, despite its progress toward profitability, it still lost $47.1 million in the first nine months of 2023 on $286 million in revenue. Based on a -16.4% net margin through Q3 2023, the company&rsquo;s outlook for 2023 suggests it will lose $68 million on a GAAP basis on $412 million in sales.



That&rsquo;s 4.1x sales for a company with zero profits. There are better and safer bets.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
