Billionaire investor Warren Buffett cut several of Berkshire Hathaway Inc&#8216;s (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BRK#NYSE">BRK</a>) (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BRK#NYSE">BRK</a>) <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/equities/24/08/40232279/is-warren-buffett-bearish-or-waiting-to-pounce-berkshire-now-owns-more-t-bills-than-federal-rese">largest holdings this year</a>. 
The Omaha, Nebraska-based holding company&#8217;s latest 13F filing shows that the sell-off trend continues.
What Happened: Berkshire&#8217;s latest 13F filing, filed on Thursday, reflects the company&#8217;s largest holdings as of September 30.
Buffett reduced his stake in Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AAPL#NASDAQ">AAPL</a>) from 400 million to 300 million shares. Thus, Berkshire has now cut its position in the Cupertino, California-based tech giant by over two-thirds since 2023&#8217;s third quarter.
The Omaha &#8220;oracle&#8221; also continued to cut his stake in Bank of America Corp (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BAC#NYSE">BAC</a>), trimming back another 23% of Berkshire&#8217;s position.
Berkshire cut nearly all of its position in Ulta Beauty Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/ULTA#NASDAQ">ULTA</a>). Buffett <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/equities/24/08/40385824/warren-buffett-still-holds-400m-apple-shares-reveals-new-investments-in-ulta-beauty-and-heico-el">revealed a position in the cosmetic store chain</a> in August; the company&#8217;s stock has performed roughly even since then. Buffett&#8217;s Ulta holding period was unusually short for the famed value investor.
Meanwhile, Buffett added a couple of fresh faces to Berkshire&#8217;s portfolio.
Buffett bought 1,277,256 shares of Ann Arbor, Michigan-based pizza chain Domino&#8217;s Pizza Inc (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/DPZ#NYSE">DPZ</a>). He also made a foray into pool equipment, buying 404,057 shares of Pool Corp (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/POOL#NASDAQ">POOL</a>).
Price Action: Investors quickly reacted to Berkshire&#8217;s 13F filing after hours:

This <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/equities/24/08/40385824/warren-buffett-still-holds-400m-apple-shares-reveals-new-investments-in-ulta-beauty-and-heico-el">has not stopped</a> investors&#8217; conjecture that Buffett is perhaps bearish <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/trading-ideas/movers/24/11/41949068/bitcoin-could-reach-1-million-by-2037-economist-says-buy-of-a-lifetime-opportunity">on the market at large</a>.
Alternatively, Buffett could be simply trimming positions that take up an outsized portion of Berkshire&#8217;s portfolio to reduce exposure.

SEC Chairman Gary Gensler on Thursday defended his regulatory approach to crypto markets, emphasizing investor protection and compliance, as he hinted at an end of his stint as <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cryptocurrency/24/11/41883348/donald-trump-cant-fire-gary-gensler-but-pro-crypto-policies-means-industry-is-on-the-verge-of-a-golden-era">the agency&#8217;s chair</a>.
What Happened: In his remarks at the Practicing Law Institute&#8217;s 56th Annual Institute on Securities Regulation, Gensler <a href="https://www.sec.gov/newsroom/speeches-statements/gensler-remarks-pli-s-56th-annual-institute-securities-regulation-111424">noted</a> that his agenda builds on the SEC's history of oversight in crypto, referencing cases like Ripple (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/xrp/usd">XRP</a>), and emphasized the consistency of the Commission's actions over the years.
He said that since 2018, around 5-7% of SEC enforcement has been directed toward digital assets, maintaining that the agency&#8217;s approach targets specific non-compliant participants rather than the entire crypto market. 
He affirmed that "court after court" has upheld the SEC's jurisdiction over offerings that involve securities, even in digital forms.

"Everything we've done is focused on ensuring compliance with our laws," Gensler said. 
He added that investor protection, through disclosure and oversight, has been a central priority, adding that compliance fosters market trust. 
Highlighting the SEC's endorsement of Bitcoin futures ETFs in 2021 and later Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) and Ether (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/eth/usd">ETH</a>) products, Gensler claimed these regulated products provided benefits such as lower fees and enhanced transparency, distinguishing them from the broader crypto markets.
His also noted that while Bitcoin, Ether, and stablecoins comprise a large portion of the crypto market, other assets—often speculative—had yet to demonstrate enduring use cases.
Gensler closed with thanking the team at the Securities and Exchange Commission, emphasizing it has been a &#8220;great honor to serve with them, doing the people's work and ensuring that our capital markets remain the best in the world.&#8221;
