Brown, who signed a record-breaking $303.7 million contract last year, planned to transform the five-story building into a hub for Black entrepreneurship. His vision included featuring Black-owned businesses on the street level and housing his startup accelerator program on the upper floors.
"A building is a core part of BostonXchange, so he's looking forward to finding a location," Malia Lazu, Brown's consultant on the initiative, told the Boston Business Journal. The search continues for an alternative site downtown or elsewhere in the city.
The report said that the NBA All-Star&#8217;s interest represents exactly what civic leaders hope to see for vacant downtown properties in post-pandemic Boston. Michael Nichols, president of the Downtown Boston Business Improvement District, supported Brown&#8217;s mission. &#8220;We remain motivated to work with Jaylen and his team to find a space that can serve as the long-term epicenter for their mission-focused work,&#8221; Nichols said.

The property&#8217;s troubled history extends beyond the pandemic. After Barnes &amp; Noble closed in 2006, it sat vacant until L3 Capital and LaSalle Investment Management purchased it in 2017. Despite millions in upgrades, COVID-19 derailed their plans, forcing them to surrender the building to lender Wells Fargo last year to avoid foreclosure, the report noted.
Hudson Group, the prospective buyer, brings experience in transforming downtown Boston properties. The firm has converted buildings in the Leather District into residential units and partnered with Brookfield on a 26-story apartment tower on the Greenway.
Brown&#8217;s initiative, Boston XChange, launched this summer and recently announced its first cohort of 10 businesses. While the Washington Street location didn&#8217;t work out, his broader mission to address Boston&#8217;s racial wealth gap through real estate and entrepreneurship continues.

NIO Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NIO#NYSE">NIO</a>), the Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker, is seeing its shares trade lower in premarket trading on Thursday.
Macquarie analyst Eugene Hsiao downgraded the company&#8217;s rating from Outperform to Neutral and slashed the price target <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/NIO/analyst-ratings" rel="noreferrer noopener">from $6.60 to $4.80.</a>
The downgrade follows a mixed fiscal third-quarter earnings report, which revealed a slight decline in year-over-year<a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/earnings/24/11/42084907/nio-q3-earnings-11-6-gain-in-vehicle-deliveries-margins-improve-issues-robust-q4-delivery-outlook" rel="noreferrer noopener"> revenue and continued losses.</a>
NIO posted a revenue of 18.67 billion yuan ($2.66 billion) for the quarter, marking a 2.1% decrease from the same period in the previous year but an increase of 7.0% from the prior quarter. However, analysts had expected slightly higher revenue of $2.70 billion for the period.

Excluding share-based compensation expenses, NIO reported an adjusted loss per share of 2.14 yuan, or a 31-cent loss, which was an improvement compared to the 2.28 yuan loss in the same quarter last year. Nonetheless, the company continues to struggle with narrowing its losses, though this quarter&#8217;s loss was slightly better than the 2.21 yuan loss seen in the second quarter of 2024.
Despite the disappointing financials, NIO executives have been actively unveiling new strategic developments.
The company shared details about its third EV brand, Firefly, which will officially launch on December 21, ahead of its parent company&#8217;s annual NIO Day event, reported <a target="_blank" href="https://cnevpost.com/2024/11/20/nio-officially-unveils-3rd-brand-firefly/" rel="noreferrer noopener">CnEV </a>Post. Firefly&#8217;s first model is expected to enter deliveries in the first half of 2025, a move seen as an effort to expand NIO&#8217;s presence in the competitive EV market.
Looking ahead, NIO has set a guidance of 72,000 to 75,000 vehicle deliveries for the fourth quarter, which represents a<a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/calendars/guidance" rel="noreferrer noopener"> year-over-year increase of 43.9% to 49.9%</a>. The company also projects revenue for the fourth quarter in the range of $2.804 billion to $2.904 billion, a growth of 15.0% to 19.2% compared to the same period last year.
Despite these optimistic projections, NIO&#8217;s stock has been under significant pressure in 2024, having plunged more than 45% year-to-date.

What To Know: Bitcoin was up about 3.4% over a 24-hour period and more than 7% over the past week, trading around $97,500 at the time of publication, according to <a href="http://pro.benzinga.com">Benzinga Pro</a>. The rally in Bitcoin comes amid continued optimism surrounding a more favorable regulatory environment following President-elect Donald Trump&#8217;s election win. 
Reports from Wednesday suggested the Trump team is considering various candidates for a<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cryptocurrency/24/11/42098407/donald-trump-reportedly-eyeing-the-first-crypto-focused-role-in-the-white-house"> potential crypto role</a> that would help bridge the gap between the White House, Congress and regulatory bodies. 
Several crypto-related stocks are rallying Thursday, but MARA Holdings is outpacing other mining stocks, which may be a result of the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cryptocurrency/24/07/39958725/marathon-digital-buys-bitcoin-adopts-full-hodl-strategy-whats-going-on-with-the-mining-sto" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">&#8220;full HODL&#8221;</a> strategy the company put in place earlier this year. The strategy involves holding all Bitcoin the company mines and periodically making strategic open market purchases. 
MARA Holdings on Thursday announced that it completed an offering of 0.00% convertible senior notes due 2030 for an aggregate amount of $1 billion. Net proceeds from the sales of the notes were approximately $980 million. The company will use $199 million to repurchase some of its notes due 2026. The rest of the proceeds will be used to acquire additional Bitcoin.
The market appears to be applauding MARA Holdings&#8217; plan to raise capital to accumulate more Bitcoin, similar to the playbook MicroStrategy Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MSTR#NASDAQ">MSTR</a>) has followed, which has helped the stock surge more than 650% year-to-date. MARA Holdings said it held a total of <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/earnings/24/11/41923273/mara-holdings-q3-earnings-revenue-miss-eps-miss-2070-bitcoin-mined-energized-hash-rate-up-9-exahash-target-firmly-in-sight" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">26,747 Bitcoin</a> as of Sept. 30.

On Wednesday, Reddit, Inc (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/RDDT#NYSE">RDDT</a>) faced an outage in the afternoon. The social media company had resolved disruptions to its services.
The Reddit status page said the company had investigated the issue since <a target="_blank" href="https://www.redditstatus.com/" rel="noreferrer noopener">12:38 pm PT</a> (or 3:38 pm ET).
The number of disruptions reported peaked at close to 44,000 at 3:34 pm ET and close to 32,000 at 5.19 pm ET, as per <a target="_blank" href="https://downdetector.com/status/reddit/" rel="noreferrer noopener">Downdetector</a>.

According to Downdetector, around 51% of the reported issues were related to website malfunctions, and 48% were related to the app. Users also posted complaints <a target="_blank" href="https://x.com/cdrux/status/1859332881664852299" rel="noreferrer noopener">on X</a>.
While trying to access the homepage, TechCrunch <a target="_blank" href="https://techcrunch.com/2024/11/20/reddit-appears-to-be-back-after-a-4-hour-long-outage/" rel="noreferrer noopener">encountered</a> the outage firsthand. The screen showed a black background with the message &#8220;Upstream connect error or disconnect/reset before headers. Reset reason: connection failure.&#8221; On the iOS app, the only visible image was Reddit&#8217;s alien mascot, Snoo, with its signature deadhead, as per TechCrunch.
Reddit&#8217;s status page said the company implemented a fix at 4:35 pm PT (or 7:35 pm ET) and announced the resolution of the issue at 8:08 pm PT (or 11:08 pm ET). Currently, Reddit&#8217;s status page says that all systems are operational.
