The security records a dollar volume worth $347 million in February, placing it just below Roche Holdings&rsquo; $849 million figure.&nbsp;

The OTCQB Venture Market recorded $807 million dollar volume in February. The OTCQB&rsquo;s Top 10 remains unchanged from January despite surprising increases in volume from a number of candidates.&nbsp;
John Marshall Bancorp Inc. (OTCQB: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/jmsb#OTCQB">JMSB</a>), StrikeForce Technologies Inc. (OTCQB: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/sfor#OTCQB">SFOR</a>), and Trillion Energy International Inc. (OTCQB: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/tcff#OTCQB">TCFF</a>) experienced dollar volume increases and reported monthly dollar volumes of $57 million, $6.7 million, $6.2 million and $3.3 million, respectively.

The OTCQX's Top 10 Experience A Shuffle In February

It&rsquo;s a precarious time for banks around the world.&nbsp;&nbsp;
In the U.S., financial stocks have grossly underperformed the overall market, as the COVID-19 pandemic has created concerns about increased loan loss provisions and near-zero interest rates. Even community banks, which found some success with the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/government/20/06/16162912/4-community-bank-executives-give-their-perspectives-on-the-paycheck-protection-program">Paycheck Protection Program</a>, haven&rsquo;t been able to outrun this sentiment.
In Mexico, regulators are <a href="https://www.reuters.com/article/ousivMolt/idUSKCN26E3IS">temporarily rolling back bank regulations</a> in an attempt to help the economy. Meanwhile, Europe&rsquo;s largest banks sold off earlier in the week after <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/european-banks-shares-fincen-leaked-docs-money-2020-9">document leaks</a> showed years of suspicious activity.&nbsp;
And on top of all that, there&rsquo;s also the uncertainty of the upcoming election, which could itself have long-term implications for the industry. Muddying the picture is the idea from some experts that a Trump win and Biden win would each have positives and negatives for banks.&nbsp;
&ldquo;Neither outcome is a clear win or a clear loss for the banking industry or the market as a whole,&rdquo; said Ed Mills, managing director, Washington policy with Raymond James. &ldquo;You have to look at the more nuanced outcomes of the elections.&rdquo;
Those nuances, he said, include how individual banks would react to fiscal stimulus versus changes to tax policy and regulations, how a change to the PPP program would help small businesses, and a potential re-escalation of trade tensions with China.
&ldquo;With the reelection of President Trump, he will have the ability to keep his regulatory team in place and we probably see a cementing of the deregulatory push that has occurred over the last four years. If Joe Biden is elected, you will see changes at the OCC, the CFPB, likely at FHFA, and sooner rather than later atop the Federal Reserve and the FDIC, all of whom have a lot of power in determining the future of bank regulations, which can have a direct line to business activity and profitability.&rdquo;
However, Mills added that each candidate comes with significant potential tradeoffs.&nbsp;
&ldquo;From a macro perspective, a Biden administration is far more likely to produce continued fiscal support for the economy. And so from an economic perspective, you can have a strong argument that continued fiscal stimulus under a Democratic sweep is more important to the financial services industry than potential changes to regulation and tax policy.&rdquo;

Stocks That Hit 52-Week Highs On Tuesday

Two Dutch companies were among the most actively traded securities on OTC Markets in December, the first time all year that companies from northern Europe had such high trading volume in a given month.
Trading volume in Heineken N.V. (OTCQX: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/heiny#OTCQX">HEINY</a>), the makers of Heineken and Amstel beers, and Koninklijke Ahold Delhaize N.V. (OTCQX: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/adrny#OTCQX">ADRNY</a>), the owners of U.S. grocery brands Giant, Stop&amp;Shop, Food Lion, and Peapod, substantially increased in December.
Over $140 million worth of Koninklijke Ahold Delhaize shares traded hands last month, a 202% increase from November. That made it December&rsquo;s fifth-most-active security on the OTCQX Market, the premium tier of OTC Markets, behind Roche Holding Ltd (OTCQX: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/rhhby#OTCQX">RHHBY</a>), Danone (OTCQX: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/danoy#OTCQX">DANOY</a>), Grayscale Bitcoin Trust (BTC) (OTCQX: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/gbtc#OTCQX">GBTC</a>), and Imperial Brands PLC (OTCQX: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/imbby#OTCQX">IMBBY</a>).
Meanwhile, Heineken had over $101 million worth of its shares trade in December, a 183% increase from November. Not only did that make it the seventh-most traded security on OTCQX for the month, but it accounted for nearly 20% of the company&rsquo;s total 2019 trading volume.
The increase in trading volume in the two Dutch companies comes as OTC Markets has focused more closely on the region.
&ldquo;The region has tremendous opportunity for us as a business because they have a very vibrant market,&rdquo; said Chris King, senior vice president of international corporate services at OTC Markets. &ldquo;Companies tend to find that they&#39;re somewhat underserved by their local markets, and they look to the U.S. to grow their investor base.&rdquo;
Elsewhere on the OTCQX Market, the top-traded securities with the greatest month-over-month volume increases included mining companies Continental Gold Inc (OTCQX: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/cgoof#OTCQX">CGOOF</a>), Riviera Resources, Inc. A Dutch Brewing Company And Grocery Conglomerate Were 2 Of The Most Actively Traded Securities On OTC Markets In December

As we highlighted last month, preferred shares of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cannabis/19/02/13122454/fannie-mae-and-freddie-mac-saw-massive-increases-in-trading-volume-i">experienced dramatic increases</a> in dollar trading volume to start 2019. That was not the case in February however, as dollar volume in the mortgage liquidity providers receded back to normal levels.
While different share classes of Fannie and Freddie did occupy seven of the top 12 most-active securities on the OTCQB Venture market in February, they all experienced month-over-month declines in dollar trading volume compared to January. Dollar volume in shares of Fannie Mae (OTCQB: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/fnmas#OTCQB">FNMAS</a>), Fannie Mae (OTCQB: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/fnma#OTCQB">FNMA</a>), Freddie Mac (OTCQB: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/fmckj#OTCQB">FMCKJ</a>), and Freddie Mac (OTCQB: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/fmcc#OTCQB">FMCC</a>) fell an average of 57 percent month-over-month.
This trend continued across many of the largest securities on OTC Markets in February, particularly among large multinationals. Of the most actively traded securities on the OTCQX Best Market (the top tier of OTC Markets), international conglomerates Roche Holding Ltd (OTCQX: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/rhhby#OTCQX">RHHBY</a>), adidas AG (OTCQX: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/addyy#OTCQX">ADDYY</a>), Danone (OTCQX: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/danoy#OTCQX">DANOY</a>), and BNP Paribas (OTCQX: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/bnpqy#OTCQX">BNPQY</a>) all experienced lower dollar volume in February compared to January.
That&rsquo;s not to say there are not OTCQX securities that didn&rsquo;t experience volume increases in the month. Dollar volume in Mexican banking group Grupo Financiero Banorte, S.A.B. De C.V. (OTCQX: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/gbooy#OTCQX">GBOOY</a>) increased 125 percent in February, and Dutch health multinational Royal DSM NV (OTCQX: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/rdsmy#OTCQX">RDSMY</a>) rose 109 percent.
Interestingly, the Grayscale Bitcoin Trust (BTC) (OTCQX: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/gbtc#OTCQX">GBTC</a>) and Organigram Holdings, Inc. (OTCQX: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/ogrmf#OTCQX">OGRMF</a>)&mdash;two securities that represent emerging industries&mdash;saw increases of 9 and 56 percent in February, suggesting investors had more of a risk-on appetite during the month.
Similarly, three cannabis companies on the OTCQB Venture Market saw massive dollar volume increases in February. Khiron Life Sciences Corp. (OTCQB: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/khrnf#OTCQB">KHRNF</a>), Leafbuyer Technologies, Inc. (OTCQB: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/lbuy#OTCQB">LBUY</a>), and Plus Products Inc. (OTQB: <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/plprf">PLPRF</a>) saw dollar volume increases of 277 percent, 157 percent, and 810 percent respectively.
Overall, volume was down among most of the larger names on OTCQB. Of the 10 most actively traded securities on the OTCQB Market in February, only NaturalShrimp Incorporated (OTCQB: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/shmp#OTCQB">SHMP</a>) (up 1,713 percent), Cleanspark, Inc. (OTCQB: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/clsk#OTCQB">CLSK</a>) (up 916 percent) and one class of Fannie Mae (OTCQB: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/fnmat#OTCQB">FNMAT</a>) (up 165 percent) saw their dollar trading volume increase from January.

These Were The Most Actively Traded Stocks On The OTC Markets In February

Grupo Financiero Banorte SAB de CV (OTC: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/gbooy#OTC">GBOOY</a>) reported a 20% rise in its fourth-quarter net profit.

Banorte's quarterly profit surged to 3.01 billion pesos ($239 million). Its profit jumped 28% for the full year to MXN10.89 billion.

Banorte's loan portfolio rose 15% y/y.

Banorte shares rose 0.31% to close at $35.44 yesterday.

Grupo Financiero Banorte SAB (OTC: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/gbooy#OTC">GBOOY</a>) reported a 29% surge in its net profit for the second quarter. 

Its quarterly net profit rose to 2.64 billion pesos ($197 million). Banorte's deposits gained 15% y/y to MXN313.92 billion, while the bank's loan portfolio surged 21% y/y.
