White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt announced Thursday that the U.S. is leaving the door open to negotiations with Iran, as President Donald <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/donald-trump">Trump considers military options</a>.
In a direct message quoted by Leavitt, Trump said, "Based on the fact that there's a substantial chance of negotiations that may or may not take place with Iran in the near future, I will make my decision whether or not to go within the next two weeks."
The remarks came after days of mounting tension, as Israel targeted Iranian nuclear sites and Tehran responded with ballistic missile strikes on Israeli cities.
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Trump Hints At Diplomacy, Yet Keeps Military Option Open</h3>
Leavitt reiterated that while the administration remains ready to act militarily, its preference is clear. 
"The president has made it clear he always wants to pursue diplomacy, but believe me, he is unafraid to use strength if necessary," she said. 

She added that the U.S. has already engaged in six rounds of indirect and direct talks and confirmed a new proposal was sent to Iran.
"The deal was both realistic and acceptable," Leavitt said, without providing further details.
Leavitt emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating that Iran possesses all the necessary components to build a nuclear weapon. "Let's be very clear. Iran has all that it needs to achieve a nuclear weapon.&#8221;
The White House press secretary warned that such a development would pose an "existential threat not just to Israel, but to the United States and to the entire world." 
She reaffirmed that President Trump has been clear for decades that Iran must never obtain a nuclear weapon, calling it a red line for U.S. national security.
Trump's approach of "peace through strength," Leavitt said, is unchanged. "Iran can and should make a deal. Or they will face grave consequences," she added.
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Market Reactions</h3>
Markets highly sensitive to Middle East development swiftly reacted to the White House announcements on Thursday. 
West Texas Intermediate crude futures, which had surged to $76.50 earlier on the day, reversed sharply after the briefing, plunging toward $73 per barrel. 
Traders took the president's 14-day decision window and openness to talks as a sign that a direct U.S.-Iran conflict was less likely in the near term.
Leavitt emphasized that the president is monitoring energy markets closely. "He is paying attention and monitoring oil prices," she said, further reassuring markets.
The foreign exchange market mirrored the softening of geopolitical risk. The U.S. dollar index, which had been gaining through the day, slipped by 0.3% after the White House briefing. 
Unlike oil and the dollar, gold remained resilient. Futures on the bullion – which is tracked by the SPDR Gold Trust (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GLD#NYSE">GLD</a>) – ware unchanged at $3,370 per ounce.

West Texas Intermediate crude futures climbed past $76.50 per barrel on Thursday, marking their highest level since January. Investors responded to rising geopolitical risk after Tel Aviv said it targeted Iranian nuclear sites in retaliatory strikes, prompting fears of a broader regional conflict.
The tension grew after <a href="https://www.wsj.com/politics/national-security/trump-privately-approved-attack-plans-for-iran-but-has-withheld-final-order-4563c526">The Wall Street Journal</a> reported President Donald Trump had approved U.S. military plans for Iran but held back from issuing a final order. Trump responded on Truth Social, saying, "The Wall Street Journal has No Idea what my thoughts are concerning Iran!"
The potential for a U.S. military entry into the conflict has revived fears of shipping disruptions through the Strait of Hormuz, a chokepoint through which roughly 20% of global oil supply flows.

This marks the largest weekly decline in a year, reflecting surging demand and high refinery throughput amid the peak summer fuel season.
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">European Equities Tumble As Risk-Off Mode Deepens</h3>
European equities ended Thursday's session with sharp losses as investors reduced risk exposure amid geopolitical instability and energy concerns.
Italy's FTSE MIB index fell 1.59% to 38,793, touching a six-week low. 
The Euro Stoxx 50 dropped 1.38% to 5,197, while France's CAC 40 and Spain's IBEX 35 slid 1.38% and 1.36%, respectively. 
Germany's DAX closed 1.17% lower at 23,047.
Investors are bracing for Friday's diplomatic meeting between European Union leaders and Iran in Switzerland.
Monetary policy responses were mixed across Europe on Thursday.
The Swiss National Bank reduced its policy rate by 25 basis points to 0%, marking the first time borrowing costs returned to zero since negative rates ended in late 2022. The rate cut, widely expected by markets, aims to support domestic growth amid a cooling economy.
Norway's central bank also trimmed rates, aligning with a broader shift among smaller European economies facing sluggish momentum.
Meanwhile, the Bank of England kept its main interest rate unchanged at 4.25%. Six of nine Monetary Policy Committee members voted to maintain rates, while three pushed for a 25 basis point cut, reflecting growing pressure to ease financial conditions.
Despite, the broader risk-off mood, futures on gold – as tracked by the SPDR Gold Trust (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GLD#NYSE">GLD</a>) – remained steady at $3,365 per ounce. 
In currency markets, the dollar gained slightly, with the U.S. dollar index rising 0.3% to 99.10 levels, extending its weekly rally.

Oil Prices Jump, European Markets Plummet As US-Iran Tensions Rise: What's Driving Markets Thursday?

Following gold's conspicuous correction in early April, the precious metal has marched steadily higher, with the latest tensions in the Middle East acting as a supporting catalyst. Subsequently, this backdrop may provide a tailwind for the mining sector, particularly for precious metal streaming management company Royal Gold Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/RGLD#NASDAQ">RGLD</a>).
Fundamentally, headlines are zeroed in on Israel's military strike against Iran, with the escalating conflict sparking two major concerns. First, Iran is <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/macro-economic-events/25/06/45943707/us-economy-to-face-pretty-limited-impact-from-israel-iran-airstrikes-with-only-a-tiny-bit-recession-risk-say-economists">strategically positioned near the Strait of Hormuz</a>, which is a vital route for global oil and liquefied natural gas shipments. Second and more critically, lawmakers — including Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) — have <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/politics/25/06/45988135/bernie-sanders-slams-israels-illegal-attack-on-iran-says-absolutely-imperative-that-the-united-states-not-be-dragged-into-this-war">expressed deep anxieties</a> about the U.S. potentially being dragged into the conflict.
Given the seriousness of the matter, several sectors have attracted pragmatic (if not cynical) investment capital. Predictably, the precious metals ecosystem has been elevated as diplomatic solutions wane. Recently, benchmark exchange-traded funds, such as the iShares Gold Trust (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/IAU#NYSE">IAU</a>) and SPDR Gold Shares ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GLD#NYSE">GLD</a>) have <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/etfs/broad-u-s-equity-etfs/25/06/45983526/trump-wants-an-end-not-a-ceasefire-for-the-israel-iran-war-what-that-means-for-etfs">witnessed modest but consistent inflows</a>.
In fairness, as other publications have noted, RGLD stock isn't exactly the gold industry's standard bearer. At this moment, the consensus <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/rgld/analyst-ratings">analyst rating</a> for Royal Gold is 2.5, which is in Sell territory. In contrast, streaming competitor Wheaton Precious Metals Corp (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/WPM#NYSE">WPM</a>) carries a <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/wpm/analyst-ratings">3.0 rating</a> or Hold, while mining powerhouse Newmont Corp (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NEM#NYSE">NEM</a>) is slightly better with a <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/nem/analyst-ratings">3.2 rating</a>.
Nevertheless, RGLD stock appears to provide a more "readable" signal. From a more heuristic perspective, technical analysts will likely argue that RGLD is currently charting a bullish pennant formation. In April, the security popped higher but has since entered a consolidation phase of generally lower highs.

Still, RGLD stock has also been charting higher lows, which lends credence to the idea that it could eventually break out of this consolidation zone. Contrast that with WPM or NEM, where the respective charts arguably lack a discernible pattern.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Using Statistics To Frame The Opportunity In RGLD Stock</h2>
Although RGLD stock enjoys both a fundamental and technical justification for bullishness, both these methodologies lack specificity. From an investor's point of view, the typical timeframe — usually a year or longer — provides the underlying thesis with considerable flexibility to pan out as forecasted. Unfortunately, traders (especially options traders) don't have that luxury.
It comes down to structure. Since options have an expiration date, a thesis has to materialize accurately in terms of magnitude (y-axis) and time (x-axis). To be sure, what raises the stakes is that when an options strategy goes sour, the entire principal — or worse if selling naked calls and puts — is at risk.
Still, the tremendous leverage that options provide consistently attracts market participants. For these folks, the decision to trade comes down to probabilities. However, in order to calculate probabilities that are relevant — the conditional variety — the language within the target dataset must be unified.
In that sense, both the fundamental and technical approaches suffer from the same dilemma: non-stationarity of the core measurement metric. For example, share prices frequently change over time, as do valuation ratios such as price to earnings. In order to conduct sensible statistical analysis, one must impose stationarity on the dataset. Converting price action into market breadth, which simply tracks accumulative and distributive sessions, is one viable solution.

Under this framework, RGLD stock is on course toward printing a "4-6-U" sequence by this Friday: four up weeks, six down weeks, with a net positive trajectory across the 10-week period. A rare event, this sequence has only materialized 25 times in the trailing decade. Notably, in 72% of cases, the following week's price action results in upside, with a median return of 2.7%.
Should the implications of the 4-6-U pan out as projected, RGLD stock could breach $185 in short order, perhaps in a week or two. If the bulls maintain control of the market, a push toward the $190 level wouldn't be unreasonable, especially with the fundamental backdrop acting as a supporting element.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Aggressive Call Spreads For The Bullish Trader</h2>
Based on the market intelligence above, arguably the most aggressive but realistic trade is to buy the 180/185 bull call spread expiring July 18. This transaction involves buying the $180 call and simultaneously selling the $185 call, for a net debit paid of 280. Should RGLD stock rise through the short strike price ($185) at expiration, the maximum reward is $220, a payout of roughly 79%.
Those who want to take a little more risk may consider the 180/190 bull spread, also expiring July 18. This transaction involves a higher net debit paid of $445. However, the max reward stands at $555, translating to a payout of almost 125%.
In both trades, the appeal centers on the implied shift in sentiment regime. As a baseline, the chance that a long position in RGLD stock is profitable over any given week is only 52.29%. Therefore, the 4-6-U sequence statistically provides "free odds" for the bullish speculator.
To be 100% clear, this doesn't guarantee a positive outcome. Rather, for those who are already willing to take a risk in the options market, the use of conditional probabilities helps traders separate the wheat from the chaff empirically.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Silver Outpaces Gold, Ratio Signals More Upside</h2>
On Tuesday, silver surged over 70 cents intraday to trade above $37, marking its highest level since 2012. That's a 2% daily gain, outshining gold's more modest 0.8% move. The silver-tracking iShares Silver Trust (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SLV#NYSE">SLV</a>) is up over 25%, while SPDR Gold Trust (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GLD#NYSE">GLD</a>) has climbed around 14%, giving silver a 2-to-1 edge.
The gold-to-silver ratio has dropped sharply from over 90 in March to below 76 &#8211; historically a bullish setup for silver. In past cycles, a falling ratio has preceded major runs in silver miners.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Breakout Level Breached, Miners Ride The Wave</h2>
Silver also broke above key resistance at $35, a level it couldn't hold in 2020 or 2021. With that technical ceiling cleared, analysts are eyeing $40+ as the next stop.
Schiff called the move "a precious metals rally," and he's not alone. Stocks like First Majestic Silver Corp (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AG#NYSE">AG</a>) and Pan American Silver Corp (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/PAAS#NYSE">PAAS</a>) are already rallying in tandem, buoyed by rising spot prices as momentum flows into silver.
While gold remains the classic hedge, silver offers both monetary and industrial upside. With AI, solar, and EV demand growing—and macro jitters rising—silver might be the surprise winner of 2025's commodity trade.

Peter Schiff Says 'The Gold Rally Has A Silver Lining' - As It Outperforms Gold By 2:1

On Tuesday, June 17, U.S. markets closed lower as the Israel-Iran conflict entered its fifth day, heightening geopolitical tensions and prompting the U.S. to deploy more fighter jets to the region.
Volatility rose, with energy and defense stocks gaining on higher oil prices, while solar stocks plunged following proposed tax credit cuts. Investors remained cautious ahead of the Federal Reserve&#8217;s policy decision.
On the economic data front, May retail sales dropped 0.9%, deeper than April&#8217;s 0.1% decline and worse than expected. Industrial production slipped 0.2%, missing estimates, while import prices were unchanged and export prices fell 0.9%.
Most S&amp;P 500 sectors ended in the red, led by health care, materials, and consumer discretionary. Energy was the lone bright spot. The Dow fell 0.70% to 42,215.80, the S&amp;P 500 lost 0.84% to 5,982.72, and the Nasdaq dropped 0.91% to 19,521.09.
