Trump's Win Sends Indices To Record Highs; Financials, Small Caps Surge, Bitcoin Tops $75,000: What's Driving Markets Wednesday?

ViaSat Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/VSAT#NASDAQ">VSAT</a>) shares are sitting on the sidelines Wednesday while the broader market rallies. The muted price action may be partly due to The Bear Cave&#8217;s<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/short-sellers"> latest short report</a>.
What To Know: Short-selling firm The Bear Cave has published a new report suggesting Elon Musk&#8217;s SpaceX is eating ViaSat&#8217;s lunch.
&#8220;The Bear Cave believes new competition led by SpaceX's Starlink is stealing share from Viasat's key markets and will continue to grow at Viasat's expense,&#8221; the short seller<a href="https://thebearcave.substack.com/p/problems-at-viasat-vsat"> said</a>. 
Benzinga has reached out to ViaSat for comment on the report. 
The Bear Cave expects Donald Trump&#8217;s return to the White House to further increase competitive pressure from SpaceX on its business given Musk&#8217;s support of Trump throughout his campaign.
The short seller noted that SpaceX&#8217;s <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/starlink">Starlink</a> offers a collection of low-orbit satellites that can provide connectivity with greater bandwidth and lower latency than traditional solutions like ViaSat. 
&#8220;Based on the collective reviews of customers, employees, and engineers,&nbsp;The Bear Cave concludes Viasat is a dead company walking,&#8221; The Bear Cave said. 
The Bear Cave went on to highlight specific commentary from customers, suggesting many are switching to Starlink. He also pointed to the company&#8217;s most recent subscriber base total of 257,000, down from around 600,000 in 2020.
&#8220;Based on consumer reviews, The Bear Cave expects that base to dwindle further,&#8221; the short seller said. 
VSAT Price Action: <a href="http://benzinga.com/qupte/vsat">ViaSat shares</a> were down 1.05% at $10.39 at the time of publication, according to <a href="http://pro.benzinga.com">Benzinga Pro</a>. The company is set to report earnings after the market close Wednesday.

(NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/LCID#NASDAQ">LCID</a>) shares are down sharply on Wednesday following the election of Donald Trump as the 47th president of the U.S. Here's a look at how Trump's policy could <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/analyst-ratings/analyst-color/24/10/41460886/rivian-analyst-cuts-estimates-on-demand-concerns-warns-softer-production-delivery-t">affect the electric vehicle makers.</a>&nbsp;
What To Know: Trump has largely condemned EVs, claiming they are<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/07/39854007/trump-says-he-will-end-the-electric-vehicle-mandate-on-day-one-days-after-tesla-ceo-elon-musks-endor"> being forced </a>on consumers through unfair regulations, and has pledged to end what he calls "the electric vehicle mandate."&nbsp;
Trump has specifically said he plans <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/07/39854007/trump-says-he-will-end-the-electric-vehicle-mandate-on-day-one-days-after-tesla-ceo-elon-musks-endor">to eliminate</a> many EV incentives included in the Biden administration's Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), including purchase rebates and tax incentives. He also has said he plans to modify or end vehicle emissions standards under the Environmental Protection Agency.&nbsp;&nbsp;

EV start-ups such as Lucid and Rivian already face decreasing consumer demand for electric vehicles and Wedbush analysts see the Trump presidency as another challenge for carmakers.
"We believe a Trump presidency would be an overall negative for the EV industry as likely the EV rebates/tax incentives get pulled," the Wedbush analysts wrote.
Rivian announced plans for a new more affordable model, the R2, <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/08/40282895/rivian-kicks-off-months-long-promotional-roadshow-with-upcoming-r2-suv-r3x-crossover">set to launch </a>in 2026. The R2 was set to be priced beneath limits to qualify for the full $7,500 federal tax credit. Trump&#8217;s planned elimination of the tax credit could potentially disrupt these plans.
Trump has also proposed a universal 10% tariff on imports and a 60% tariff on imports from China which could affect Rivian and Lucid's supply chains and production costs, potentially leading to higher vehicle prices or reduced profit margins. Neither Rivian nor Lucid has yet to turn a profit and reduced profit margins would<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/08/40574576/rivian-or-lucid-which-of-the-two-loss-making-ev-startups-is-solving-cash-burn"> push the road</a> to profitability out further.&nbsp;
While Rivian and Lucid stock is down, Telsa Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSLA#NASDAQ">TSLA</a>) stock is soaring. <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/11/41781921/what-does-trumps-victory-mean-for-ev-giant-tesla-and-the-big-3-automakers">Unlike the other two companie</a>s, it should have the size and scale to absorb potential policy changes. 
RIVN, LCID Price Action: According to <a href="https://pro.benzinga.com/?gspk=YWRhbWVja2VydDUzMzY&amp;gsxid=zBMR4PKmcgBw">Benzinga Pro,</a> Rivian shares are down 9.02% at $9.64 and Lucid shares are down 5.94% at $2.12 at the time of publication Wednesday.&nbsp;

Shares of machinery companies are trading higher. Investors may be reacting to the US presidential election and its impact on the industry.

Grocery Outlet Holding Corp (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GO#NASDAQ">GO</a>) reported upbeat earnings for its <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/GO/earnings">third quarter on Tuesday.</a>
The company posted quarterly earnings of 28 cents per share which beat the analyst consensus estimate of 27 cents per share. The company reported quarterly sales of $1.11 billion which beat the analyst consensus estimate of $1.10 billion.
Eric Lindberg, Chairman and Interim President and CEO of Grocery Outlet said, &#8220;Our double-digit third quarter net sales growth reflects the strong positioning of our consumer offering – value continues to win in the market and we continue to grow our share of consumer non-discretionary spending.&#8221;
Grocery Outlet updated its FY24 EPS guidance from 89 cents-95 cents to 77 cents-80 cents. The company also updated its revenue forecast from $4.30 billion-$4.35 billion to slightly above $4.35 billion.
Grocery Outlet shares gained 10.4% to trade at $16.08 on Wednesday.
