BofA Securities analyst Lorraine Hutchinson reiterated a <a target="_blank" href="https://benzinga.com/quote/ROST/analyst-ratings" rel="noreferrer noopener">Buy rating on the stock with a price target of $180.</a>
The analyst writes that the company&#8217;s value-focused offerings continue to appeal to stretched consumers.
The analyst says the fourth-quarter guidance accounts for a timing shift in packaway expenses (benefiting the third quarter by $0.03) and lapping last year&#8217;s extra week, which added $0.20 to EPS and 80 basis points to OM. Hutchinson adjusted the FY24 estimate to $6.14, up 1%.
Telsey Advisory Group analyst Dana Telsey reaffirmed the Market Perform rating with a price target of $175.
The analyst writes that Ross Stores&#8217; earnings beat reflected margin tailwinds, despite topline results falling short of expectations. While some sales weakness was attributed to unfavorable weather, product assortment issues also contributed, failing to fully capture consumer interest.
Looking ahead, the company remains aware of the challenging macroeconomic environment, particularly for its low-to-moderate income demographic, which faces pressure from rising essential costs, says the analyst.
The analyst writes that although FY24 EPS guidance was raised, fourth-quarter projections fell short, underscoring persistent challenges.
Ross&#8217;s commitment to value continues to attract deal-seeking customers, but macroeconomic uncertainty and the price sensitivity of its core demographic weigh, adds the analyst.
Guggenheim analyst Robert Drbul maintained a Buy rating with a $180 price target.
The analyst says that while macro uncertainties remain, he expects Ross to sustain positive sales momentum this holiday season, driven by strength in gifting, cosmetics, and accessories, and carry this into 2025.
Drbul sees EPS estimates of $6.15 in FY24 and $6.70 in FY25, which reflects a favorable environment for Ross, supported by ample branded goods supply, a strong value proposition, and ongoing sales optimism.
Following the third-quarter revenue miss, the analyst slightly reduced the FY24 revenue forecast, factoring in persistent inflation and its impact on discretionary spending.
Goldman Sachs analyst Brooke Roach writes that they remain positive on Ross Stores. Despite weather-related comp softness and execution challenges, ROST&#8217;s strategy of offering branded value merchandise at sharper prices is gaining traction.
While this pressures merchandise margins, operational efficiencies have offset the impact. Management acknowledges ongoing macro pressures on low- to middle-income consumers but expects sequential strength in the holiday quarter, driven by gifting and seasonal items, adds the analyst.
Roach writes that additional catalysts include the appointment of a new <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/24/10/b41586044/ross-stores-names-james-g-conroy-as-next-chief-executive-officer" rel="noreferrer noopener">CEO, effective February 2025</a>.
The analyst revised the FY24, FY25, and FY26 EPS estimates to $6.19, $6.54, and $7.14 (from $6.07, $6.47, and $7.06), respectively, to account for the quarterly results, timing adjustments, and slight margin forecast updates.
BMO Capital Markets analyst Simeon Siegel kept the Outperform rating and a price target of $168.
The analyst writes that ROST delivered a bottom-line beat, driven by stronger-than-expected gross margins, despite a topline miss attributed to unfavorable weather.
Management lowered its fourth-quarter EPS guidance but reiterated comp expectations, slightly raising the FY EPS high-end by $0.03, which the analyst views as conservative.

The Gap, Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GAP#NYSE">GAP</a>) reported better-than-expected earnings for its second quarter and <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/GAP/earnings">raised its outlook for FY24 gross margin.</a>
Gap reported quarterly earnings of 72 cents per share, which beat the analyst consensus estimate of 57 cents. Quarterly revenue came in at $3.82 billion, which beat the consensus estimate of $3.81 billion and is an increase over sales of $3.76 billion from the same period last year.
"I'm proud that Gap Inc. delivered another successful quarter, growing net sales for the fourth consecutive quarter and gaining market share across all brands while meaningfully expanding operating margin," said Gap CEO Richard Dickson.
Gap raised its full-year outlook for net sales, gross margin and operating income growth compared to prior expectations. The company now sees net sales up 1.5% to 2%, gross margin growth of 220 basis points and operating income margin of mid-to-high 60%.
Gap shares gained 10.7% to trade at $24.41 on Friday.
These analysts made changes to their price targets on Gap following earnings announcement.

These Analysts Increase Their Forecasts On Gap Following Better-Than-Expected Earnings

Needham analyst Tom Nikic initiated Nike, Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NKE#NYSE">NKE</a>) with a Buy rating and a<a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/NKE/analyst-ratings" rel="noreferrer noopener"> price forecast of $84.</a>
The analyst suggests that Nike&#8217;s worst may nearly be over, with the recent CEO transition from John Donohoe to Nike veteran Elliott Hill seen as a major turning point &#8211; &#8220;Nike&#8217;s proverbial white knight.&#8221;
The analyst also acknowledges that management accepts past mistakes and takes decisive steps to correct them.
Although these strategies may pressure profits on P&amp;L in the short term, they are viewed as the right moves for the company, Nikic writes.
While rebuilding the brand&#8217;s momentum will take time, the analyst sees potential for Nike to become an attractive &#8220;story stock&#8221; in 2025, especially if performance has hit its lowest point and investors view Elliott Hill as the company&#8217;s savior.

However, per Nikic, this updated estimate accurately reflects the necessary adjustments Nike needs to make.
The analyst also projects revenue declines to peak in the second half of 2024 and the first half of 2025 as Nike reduces over-distributed styles.
If revenue trends improve in the coming quarters and the EPS revision cycle turns positive, the analyst forecasts Nike&#8217;s stock could start rising.
The analyst projects Nike to report FY25 revenues of $47.383 billion, with earnings per share of $2.67.

The acquisition is expected to close during the first quarter of 2025, subject to customary conditions precedent. The company also plans to in-source production of certain of its key products.
"We are planning to in-source the manufacturing of select +PlusCBD branded products providing an opportunity for meaningful cost savings. Extract Labs manufacturing capability will provide us with greater control over our supply chain and accelerate our new product development cycle,&#8221; Dowling said.

These Analysts Cut Their Forecasts On Warner Music Following Q4 Earnings

U.S. stocks traded mostly higher midway through trading, with the Dow Jones index gaining by more than 250 points on Friday.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is a vocal opponent of artificial food dyes, blaming them in part for the &#8220;chronic disease epidemic" in America. He may get the opportunity to bring major changes to the U.S. food industry under the<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/biotech/24/11/41822473/trumps-potential-health-czar-robert-f-kennedy-jr-rattles-vaccine-stocks-shoot-first-reaction"> incoming Trump administration.</a>&nbsp;
What To Know: President-elect Donald Trump has named Kennedy as his pick to lead the department of Health and Human Services (HHS). If confirmed by the Senate, Kennedy would oversee the Food and Drug Administration, among other federal health agencies, and may be able to effect policy changes that align with his views, which have run counter to programs widely viewed by the public health community as successes, such as water fluoridation and vaccines.

Kennedy has criticized the use of artificial dyes in popular cereals, snacks and beverages and noted that some dyes, like Red Dye No. 3, are banned in Europe and California due to potential health risks. Kennedy argues the U.S. food system allows many additives that are restricted in other countries to the detriment of the public's health. 
"We are betraying our children by letting these industries poison them," Kennedy said at a Trump campaign rally Nov. 2.
The potential HHS secretary has often targeted breakfast cereals in particular due to their popularity with children. 
"They get brighter colors in Froot Loops, but it's literally poisoning our kids," Kennedy told Fox News in September.&nbsp;
Froot Loops maker Kellogg said in 2015 that it was working to remove artificial colors and flavors from its branded cereals by the end of 2018, <a href="https://www.wsj.com/business/how-froot-loops-landed-at-the-center-of-u-s-food-politics-a5074e63">according</a> to the Wall Street Journal.  WK Kellogg Co. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/KLG#NYSE">KLG</a>) still sells cereal that contains the ingredients.
"The first thing I'd do isn't going to cost you anything because I'm just gonna tell the cereal companies: Take all the dyes out of their food," Kennedy said in October.
Kennedy's potential new role as the country's top health official has caught the attention of other food industry giants like General Mills, Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GIS#NYSE">GIS</a>). The mega-manufacturer of processed foods released a statement after Trump announced Kennedy as his choice for the position. 
"Because this is always an evolving space, we work in close partnership with policymakers on this issue," General Mills said in the statement. "We will engage with federal regulators as they consider any additional changes they may propose."
Why It Matters: Trump has said <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/biotech/24/11/41822473/trumps-potential-health-czar-robert-f-kennedy-jr-rattles-vaccine-stocks-shoot-first-reaction">he is ready</a> to let Kennedy "go wild on health" and he could &#8220;do pretty much what he wants&#8221; in his administration. In his announcement of his intent to nominate Kennedy as secretary of HHS, Trump said he expects him to "end the chronic disease epidemic , and to Make America Great and Healthy Again!"
"Americans have been crushed by the industrial food complex and drug companies who have engaged in deception, misinformation and disinformation when it comes to public health," Trump's announcement stated.&nbsp;

Kennedy's War On Food Dyes Could Be Coming To Your Breakfast Table

It was big news earlier this year when Warren Buffett revealed he's no longer planning to leave his vast fortune to the Gates Foundation after his death. Instead, his billions will go to a trust <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/startups/24/11/41866296/with-warren-buffett-donating-99-of-his-fortune-whats-left-for-his-three-children-well-its-complicated">managed by his three children</a>. For a man who once described <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/personal-finance/24/11/41882910/bill-gates-shares-the-best-investment-for-getting-rich-if-youre-earning-100000-or-less-but-wall-street-might-not-agree">Bill and Melinda Gates</a> as "the perfect solution" for dispersing his wealth, this marked a seismic shift in philanthropy.

In a 2008 Fortune profile, Buffett was clear in his admiration for Melinda, saying, "He's [Bill] smart as hell. But in terms of seeing the whole picture, she's smarter." He also referred to her as a "longtime friend." Buffett continued praising Melinda, saying, "I very much admire what she is doing for women around here and around the world."
Only weeks after the Gateses announced their divorce, Buffett resigned as a trustee of the foundation. As reported by The New York Times in a 2021 article, Buffett released a statement saying: "For years I have been a trustee – an inactive trustee at that – of only one recipient of my funds, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. I am now resigning from that post, just as I have done at all corporate boards other than Berkshire's."
Warren Buffett may think Bill Gates is "smart as hell," but even he admitted in his Fortune profile, "Would I have given the Gates Foundation my fortune if Melinda weren't in the picture? That's a great question. And the answer is, I'm not sure."

The Buffett connection looms large in the October 2024 Vanity Fair interview, where Melinda discusses her life after divorce, the challenges of being a woman in philanthropy and her legacy. In classic Melinda style, she doesn't shy away from tough truths. She noted her decades of joint philanthropic work with Bill: "If I went into a president or prime minister's office and I was with my ex-husband, they would turn to him first. Unless I interrupted the conversation, they could have kept going for the whole meeting."
This wasn't just frustrating – it was telling. "Why would they assume I knew less than him about philanthropy when we had been doing it together for almost 25 years?" she asked. "That, really, was sexism."
Her willingness to call out these dynamics – and challenge them – is part of what makes her so effective.
