Trump recently paused a tariff on the auto sector for Mexico and Canada, prompting Benzinga to ask readers if they support the decision and if it makes them more likely to buy a vehicle before tariffs come back.
 What Happened: A short-lived tariff of 25% on imported goods from Mexico and Canada against the automotive sector was <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/03/44149833/trump-delays-ford-gm-stellantis-from-from-tariffs-on-mexico-canada-for-one-month">paused by Trump</a> with plans to come back in April.

Benzinga recently asked readers how they feel about the tariff decisions.
"Do you support President Trump's decision to grant a one-month tariff exemption for automakers?" Benzinga asked.
The results were:

The majority of readers support the tariff pause to April with 75% saying yes.

The poll found the majority of readers won't be rushing out to buy a vehicle ahead of the potential canceling of the pause of the tariff exemption planned for April.

The poll finds people support the tariff exemption for the auto sector, but it doesn't mean they will buy a new vehicle.

&#8220;How will Trump&#8217;s tariffs affect the stock market?&#8221; Benzinga asked.

The majority of respondents said Trump&#8217;s tariffs will send the stock market lower. The remaining voters were split nearly even between the stock market going higher as the result of tariffs or the tariffs not having a real impact on stock market returns.
That poll was conducted Feb. 11 and Feb. 12. Since Feb. 12, the SPDR S&amp;P 500 ETF Trust is down 7.5% with tariffs a large factor likely weighing the S&amp;P 500 Index down and proving Benzinga readers were right.

&#8220;Elon has a tremendous task on his hands,&#8221; Errol said. &#8220;He has a couple hundred thousand employees and a lot of very serious things going on in his life, so he has to be available for all that he started… [he] can't just walk away from things.&#8221;

Tesla's stock has been in free fall, <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/03/44208979/tesla-stock-crashes-about-40-since-trump-took-office-in-january-2025-brand-takes-a-hit-and-musk-faces-criticism-top-analyst-says-dark-times-for-bulls-but-not-enough-to-head-for-the-hills">plunging about 40%</a> since Trump took office in January. Investors are growing worried, and high-profile voices, including Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy, are calling out Musk.

Musk himself admitted in a recent Fox Business interview that he is running his businesses &#8220;with great difficulty.&#8221; On Monday alone, Tesla's stock dropped 15%, <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/25/03/44242181/elon-musk-admits-juggling-between-tesla-doge-is-difficult-says-running-businesses-with-great-difficulty-as-tsla-stock-plunges-50-in-3-months">wiping out $130 billion</a> in market value, more than the combined worth of Ford (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/F#NYSE">F</a>) and General Motors (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GM#NYSE">GM</a>).

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Political Fallout and Tesla's Declining Sales</h2>
Tesla is also losing ground to competitors. In Europe, for example, Tesla sales <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/25/03/44209579/unprecedented-slide-tesla-sales-plummet-45-in-europe-as-musks-net-worth-dives-5-2b-in-a-week">plummeted 45%</a> in January, while the broader EV market grew. Other markets show similar drops, some even worse. Analysts point to Musk's political involvement as a factor, with a Morning Consult survey showing that 32% of U.S. consumers wouldn't consider buying a Tesla, up from 27% last year.
Protests against Tesla have emerged in both the U.S. and Europe, with demonstrators criticizing Musk's political ties and questioning whether he is too distracted to lead the company effectively.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Trump Defends Musk</h2>
Despite the backlash, Trump has publicly supported Musk, accusing &#8220;Radical Left Lunatics&#8221; of trying to harm Tesla. When Errol spoke about his son's new government role last November, he made it clear that splitting Elon's time between business and politics could be risky. &#8220;I can&#8217;t think of anyone more suited to a role like this than Elon,&#8221; he said at the time. But he also stressed that Musk&#8217;s core strength was building and running companies, not sitting in government meetings.

Elon Musk's Father Warned In November That If Elon Had To Step Away From His Companies For Government Duties, It Could Be 'A Big Concern'

Goldman Sachs analyst Lizzie Dove reiterated a <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/VIK/analyst-ratings" rel="noreferrer noopener">Neutral rating</a> on the shares of Viking Holdings Ltd (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/VIK#NYSE">VIK</a>) and raised the price forecast from $49.00 to $51.00.
VIK experienced a slight slowdown in bookings during February, following a <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/earnings/25/03/44254442/viking-holdings-beats-on-q4-earnings-says-88-passenger-cruise-days-for-fy25-already-booked" rel="noreferrer noopener">strong fourth-quarter performance</a> and record bookings in January.
Despite this, the company is 88% booked for 2025, with inventory for the year almost sold out. While February&#8217;s softness may reflect a pull-forward in spending during the holiday season, the luxury market exposure provides protection in case of a prolonged consumer slowdown.
Overall, VIK&#8217;s strong booking visibility and high-end clientele offer a buffer, and pricing is expected to align with projections for 2025/2026.

As of now, 88% of 2025 capacity is sold with a 7% year-over-year pricing growth, maintaining the same pace as the previous quarter.
VIK&#8217;s fourth-quarter vessel operating costs, excluding fuel, increased by 0.4% year-over-year, driven by higher capacity days from an extended river season, which provided fixed cost leverage.
While similar cost management may not continue in 2025, some cost leverage from SG&amp;A is expected, assuming the consumer environment doesn&#8217;t worsen, said the analyst.
Over 90% of VIK&#8217;s revenues come from ticket sales, reducing reliance on more volatile onboard spending and 2026 shows growth both in volume and pricing.
In short, VIK maintains strong visibility into future trends, and the extended booking curve offers more flexibility in navigating the uncertain macro conditions.
The analyst continues to favor VIK&#8217;s exposure but will remain cautious until more evidence of 2026 pricing surfaces, which is expected to come up in the next quarter.
Price Action: VIK shares are trading higher by 1.86% at $40.90 at last check Wednesday.
