European markets sank on Tuesday and U.S. stock futures followed suit, weighed down by escalating geopolitical tensions after Russian President Vladimir Putin revised the country&#8217;s nuclear doctrine to broaden the conditions <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/vladimir-putin">for deploying atomic weapons. </a>



Putin's move to ease the threshold for nuclear strikes came just a day after the White House authorized Ukraine to deploy American-made long-range ATACMS missiles deep into Russian territory. 



The Euro STOXX 50, as tracked by the SPDR DJ Euro STOXX 50 ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/FEZ#NYSE">FEZ</a>), and STOXX 600 indices dropped 1.2% and 0.8%, respectively, both tracking toward their lowest closing levels since mid-August.



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Putin Expands Nuclear Doctrine Amid US-Backed Ukrainian Strike</h3>



On Tuesday, Ukraine reportedly carried out its first ATACMS strike on a military facility near Karachev in Russia&#8217;s Bryansk region, about 70 miles from Ukraine, according to reports by <a href="https://newsukraine.rbc.ua/news/us-officially-allows-ukraine-to-to-strike-1732012491.html">RBC Ukraine</a>.



RBC Ukraine cited a Defense Forces source confirming a successful strike, marking the first time these long-range missiles were used in such a capacity. Russia acknowledged the attack.



&#8220;Indeed, for the first time, we used ATACMS to strike Russian territory. The strike was carried out against a facility in the Bryansk region, and it was successfully hit,&#8221; the source reported.



On Monday, the previous day, U.S. Under Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs Brian A. Nichols officially confirmed that the White House had given Ukraine approval to use long-range weapons to target Russian territory.



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">European Markets React: Euro, Bank Equities Drop</h3>



The geopolitical developments triggered a sharp selloff across European equities. In Poland, the WIG20 stock index plunged 2.5%, reflecting the country's proximity to the conflict and heightened exposure to regional risks. 



European banks also bore the brunt of the downturn, with the banking index slipping 2.2%. Among the hardest-hit financial institutions were CaixaBank SA (OTCPK: CAIXY), which sank 5.1%, FinecoBank Spa (OTCPK: FCBBF), down 4.2%, and Unicredito Spa (OTCPK: UNCFF), which dropped 3.3%.



The euro also came under pressure, falling 0.3% to hover at $1.0550 against the U.S. dollar, as traders sought safety in the greenback amid mounting geopolitical risks.



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Flight To Safety: Bonds, Gold Shine</h3>



Heightened geopolitical risks spurred demand for safe-haven assets. Yields on long-dated U.S. Treasuries fell by 4-5 basis points, lifting bond prices. The iShares 20+ Year Treasury Bond ETF (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TLT#NASDAQ">TLT</a>) could see strong gains following this move.



Gold surged 1%, building on a 1.9% rally from the previous session, as investors sought shelter from rising uncertainties.



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">US Premarket Action</h3>



U.S. equity futures mirrored the cautious sentiment overseas, with Dow Jones Industrial Average futures down 0.4%, S&amp;P 500 futures declining 0.3%, and Nasdaq 100 futures slipping 0.1%. 



Walmart Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/WMT#NYSE">WMT</a>) surged over 3% in premarket trading after reporting stronger-than-expected quarterly earnings. 



Among defense stocks, Lockheed Martin Corp. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/LMT#NYSE">LMT</a>) gained 0.9%, while Boeing Co. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BA#NYSE">BA</a>) fell by the same margin.

Cardone, who was interviewed by IBC Group CEO Mario Nafwal, expressed strong interest in crypto, drawing parallels between real estate and digital asset investors. 



&#8220;Real estate and crypto people have a lot in common, they both value scarcity,&#8221; he noted, while highlighting real estate&#8217;s advantage of generating cash flow.

The longer-term trends continue to harp a bullish tune for this AI juggernaut. The 50-day SMA at $132.32 and the 200-day SMA at $109.62 both trail the current price, providing bullish confirmation for NVDA bulls eyeing a broader horizon.



Momentum indicators like the MACD, which stands at a robust 3.03, further bolster the bullish outlook. Yet caution lingers as the Relative Strength Index (RSI) sits at 53.53, heading towards the overbought threshold.



While NVIDIA's share price may seem pressured in the short term, its longer-term technicals suggest resilience ahead of its earnings.

Nvidia's Blackwell Chips Overheat: Will Q3 Earnings Cool Investor Concerns?

Options trading for spot Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) exchange-traded funds are all set to launch on Wall Street on Tuesday, marking a new era of the leading cryptocurrency's integration into traditional finance.



What happened: Nasdaq head of ETP listings Alison Hennessy <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/videos/2024-11-18/intend-to-trade-bitcoin-etf-options-as-early-as-tomorrow-nasdaq-s-hennessy?srnd=all">told </a>Bloomberg they plan to list options for iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/IBIT#NASDAQ">IBIT</a>) "as early as" Tuesday.



The approved options would be listed on the Nasdaq under the ticker symbol "IBIT," paving the way for institutional investors and traders to hedge their exposure to Bitcoin more efficiently.



But why is it a big deal?



In a video posted on X Monday and reshared by Bloomberg's senior ETF analyst Eric Balchunas, analyst and head of growth at Bitcoin custody firm Theya, Joe Consorti, said that the launch will open the "floodgates" for Bitcoin's next evolution in financial markets.

Consorti stated the importance of options trading, especially for institutional investors. He explained that in sectors like equities and commodities, derivatives are 10 to 20 times the size of the underlying market cap.



On the other hand, Bitcoin's derivatives market was much lower, with its total Open interest, or OI, being a <a href="https://www.coinglass.com/BitcoinOpenInterest">fraction </a>of its spot market capitalization.

With the debut of options trading, the analyst expected Bitcoin's derivatives market to balloon into something "much, much larger."



Why It Matters: Retail investors, who constitute nearly 44% of the listed equities options market, had trouble accessing Bitcoin ETF options due to the OTC (over-the-counter) nature of trading on platforms like Deribit.



However, all this changes with IBIT options, as investors previously excluded would be able to join the Bitcoin derivatives market, giving a boost to the investor base and demand.



"A robust derivatives ecosystem reduces volatility, improves price discovery, and allows institutional capital to engage with Bitcoin at scale," Consorti emphasized.&nbsp;



The IBIT spot ETF was the biggest Bitcoin-related fund, according to SoSo Value, with assets worth more than $43 billion as of this writing.

The retailer reported adjusted EPS&nbsp;of&nbsp;58 cents,&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/calendars/earnings" rel="noreferrer noopener">beating the consensus of&nbsp;53 cents</a>.



Sales were&nbsp;$169.59 billion, up&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://corporate.walmart.com/content/dam/corporate/documents/newsroom/2024/11/19/walmart-releases-q3-fy25-earnings/q3-fy25-earnings-release.pdf" rel="noreferrer noopener">5.5</a>% year over year or 6.2% (at constant currency), beating the consensus of&nbsp;$167.72 billion.



The gross margin rate was up 21 bps, aided by improvement in the Walmart U.S.



Operating income was up&nbsp;$0.5 billion, or&nbsp;8.2%, and up 9.8%&nbsp;year over year&nbsp;(at constant currency) on higher gross margins, growth in membership income, and reduced eCommerce losses.



Global eCommerce sales rose&nbsp;27%, driven by store-fulfilled pickup and delivery as well as marketplace growth. Global advertising business grew&nbsp;28%, including&nbsp;26% for Walmart Connect in the U.S.



Walmart U.S same-store sales climbed by&nbsp;5.3%&nbsp;year over year, excluding fuel, aided by strong broad-based growth in merchandise categories and physical and digital channels.

Tom Lee, head of research at FundStrat Global Advisors, noted <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/video/2024/11/18/watch-cnbcs-full-interview-with-fundstrat-global-advisors-tom-lee.html">in</a> an interview with CNBC that the "Trump trade" is still intact despite it losing some steam over the past week.



He underscored that as uncertainty reduces around President-elect Donald Trump's announcement of Treasury Secretary, it will be a "clearing event" for the markets.

WisdomTree and Wharton School economist&nbsp;Jeremy Siegel reiterated his bull thesis but noted that higher rates could lead to some volatility in the near term.



"Equities still offer superior returns over the longer term compared to bonds," he said, as investors turn their eye towards the Federal Open Market Committee's (FOMC) next meeting.

What Analysts Are Saying: Discretionary and consumable trends could be steady for retailers in the third quarter, BMO Capital analyst Kelly Bania said in a new investor note.



The analyst maintained an Outperform rating on Walmart. Bania also raised the price target from $80 to $100 ahead of the earnings report.



Walmart is showing strong U.S. comparable sales and posting an earnings per share beat, Bania said. 



"We continue to believe WMT's decade of omni-channel investments are the early stages of paying off and believe WMT should remain a core holding," she added. 



Walmart could show strong market share gains in the grocery category along with improvement in discretionary and general merchandise, Bania said, adding that &#8220;share gains are coming across all income cohorts."



Bania estimates that Walmart's U.S. grocery sales are up 38% since 2019.



"We believe WMT's share price remains attractive for a global retailer with difficult-to-replicate scale."



The analyst said Walmart's valuation can move higher with a consistency of earnings growth in coming years.



Freedom Capital Markets Chief Global Strategist Jay Woods highlighted Walmart stock having one of its best performances in more than 25 years with shares up 60% year-to-date and trading near all-time highs ahead of the earnings report.



"Shares have climbed higher after earnings after eight of the last 10 reports and has an average move of +/- 3.8%," Woods said in a weekly newsletter.



Woods said it "will be interesting" to see if analysts raise their price targets after the third quarter earnings report.



Key Items to Watch: Walmart reported global e-commerce sales were up 21% year-over-year in the second quarter, helped by store-fulfilled pickup and delivery. The third quarter results could show if investments in e-commerce and order fulfillment continue to pay off.



Advertising is another area to watch with global advertising up 26% year-over-year in the second quarter.



"Our newer businesses like marketplace, advertising, and membership, are also contributing, diversifying our profits and reinforcing the resilience of our business model," Walmart CEO Doug McMillon said after second quarter results.



Walmart's third-quarter results come one day before Target Corporation reports quarterly results. Several large retail and e-commerce stocks could be under pressure after Walmart's report.

Wedbush analyst Daniel Ives maintained an Outperform rating and $400 price target on Tesla while highlighting the impact of the reports of Trump's transition team making self-driving vehicles a priority in a new investor note.

The analyst said Tesla can march to a market capitalization of $1.5 trillion to $2.0 trillion over the next 12 to 18 months thanks to the FSD and autonomous progress.



"We have never viewed Tesla simply as a car company…instead we have always viewed Musk and Tesla as a leading disruptive technology global player."



Musk "made a strategic and big bet on" Trump winning the election and the win could be known by Tesla bulls for years to come, Ives added.



"Tesla and Musk are set to reap the benefits from a new friendlier regulatory era in the Beltway ahead."



TSLA Price Action: Tesla stock is up 4.99% to $336.78 on Monday versus a 52-week trading range of $138.80 to $358.64. Tesla stock is up 38.1% year-to-date. The stock is up 36.4% since Election Day.

He foresees a liquidity surge in the market, which he believes will drive cryptocurrency prices higher.



He emphasized that meme coins will dominate this cycle, allocating 10% of his portfolio to this sector. Pal specifically mentioned Dogecoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/doge/usd">DOGE</a>) and a new entrant, Smoking Chicken Fish, as his key picks. 



He noted, Dogecoin's chart is fascinating—every four years, it forms a massive wedge, stays quiet, and then suddenly explodes: &#8220;Dogecoin does nothing, does nothing and then explodes.&#8221;



Despite recognizing the risks, Pal views the meme coin trend as a sign of the &#8220;tokenization of culture and communities&#8221; that could instigate larger developments in the crypto sector. 



He emphasized the need for risk management when investing in this volatile sector.

President-elect Donald Trump reportedly added more names to his list of possible picks for Treasury secretary over the weekend after Elon Musk voiced his<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/politics/24/11/42026495/musk-pushes-lutnick-for-trumps-treasury-secretary"> preference for Howard Lutnick.</a>



What Happened: Musk threw his support behind Lutnick in a post on his social media platform, X, on Saturday. The Tesla CEO and Trump-confidante also called on others to weigh in on the appointment.&nbsp;

Scott Bessent, the founder of hedge fund Key Square Group, was a principal economic advisor to Trump during his campaign and met with the President-elect at Mar-a-Lago on Friday.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Trump made several unconventional picks for cabinet nominees so far, including former U.S. Representative Matt Gaetz for US <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cannabis/24/11/42036132/trump-wants-matt-gaetz-confirmed-100-so-does-the-cannabis-industry">attorney general</a> and Fox News host Pete Hegseth for defense secretary. Trump recently nominated Chris Wright, <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/24/11/42024837/trump-taps-liberty-energy-ceo-chris-wright-for-energy-secretary">oil and natural</a> gas executive, to lead the Energy Department. Wright&#8217;s attorney, William Owen Scharf, is being considered for staff secretary. 



The entire country, including Wall Street, will be watching for Trump's Treasury secretary selection as the position is responsible for formulating financial, economic and tax policies and serves as the government&#8217;s chief financial officer.&nbsp;



Investors can monitor the market's reaction to a potential Trump selection with the SPDR S&amp;P 500 ETF which tracks the performance of the S&amp;P 500 index.&nbsp;

Risk sentiment edged higher on Monday, rebounding after two consecutive losing sessions and the worst week for the U.S. stock market since early September, as pressures from dollar <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/econ-s">and Treasury yields faded.</a>



All 11 sectors of the S&amp;P 500 traded in positive territory, with consumer discretionary stocks outperforming, thanks to a 7% surge in Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSLA#NASDAQ">TSLA</a>). 



The electric vehicle maker's rally followed reports the incoming Donald Trump administration plans to prioritize a federal framework for fully autonomous vehicles. According to <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2024-11-17/trump-team-said-to-want-to-ease-us-rules-for-self-driving-cars">Bloomberg</a>, the Department of Transportation could soon place this framework at the top of its agenda.



The tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 outperformed both the S&amp;P 500 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average on Monday. Gains in commodities also stood out, as gold, crude oil natural gas prices all posted strong rebounds amid escalating geopolitical tensions between <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/econ-s/24/11/42038707/gold-natural-gas-prices-rally-us-russia-tensions-escalate-over-ukraines-long-range-strikes">the U.S. and Russia. </a>



The U.S. dollar paused its recent rally after marking seven consecutive weeks of gains through Friday. Treasury yields, meanwhile, were flat, as the session lacked significant economic data or fresh comments from Federal Reserve officials to provide market direction.



The cryptocurrency market remained on fire, with Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC) surging 1.5% past the $92,000 mark and setting the stage for a potential record-high close. Ethereum (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/eth/usd">ETH</a>) also advanced, rising 3% on the day.

<li>Affirm Holdings Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AFRM#NASDAQ">AFRM</a>) rose 9.3% on Monday after the company revealed an expanded partnership with online travel agency Priceline, under which Affirm will serve as the pay-over-time provider for Priceline Partner Solutions.</li>
