Biohaven Ltd. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BHVN#NYSE">BHVN</a>) shares plunged on Thursday after the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) unexpectedly delayed the review date for its rare-disease drug troriluzole.
The Division of Neurology 1 within FDA&#8217;s Office of Neuroscience informed Biohaven that they are extending the PDUFA date for the troriluzole new drug application (NDA) for spinocerebellar ataxia (SCA) by three months to provide time for a full review of Biohaven&#8217;s recent submissions related to information <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/health-care" rel="noreferrer noopener">requests from the FDA</a>.
If approved, troriluzole would be the first and only FDA-approved treatment for SCA. Spinocerebellar ataxia is a group of dominantly inherited neurodegenerative disorders characterized by progressive loss of voluntary motor control and atrophy of the cerebellum and brainstem. SCA affects approximately 15,000 people in&nbsp;the&nbsp;United States&nbsp;and 24,000 in&nbsp;Europe&nbsp;and the&nbsp;United Kingdom.

Patients experience significant morbidity, including impaired gait leading to falls, loss of ambulation and progression to a wheelchair, inability to communicate due to speech impairment, difficulty swallowing, and premature death.
The Division also informed Biohaven that it is currently planning to hold an advisory committee meeting to discuss the application, but <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/25/05/n45424878/fda-extends-pdufa-date-of-biohavens-troriluzole-nda-for-rare-disease-spinocerebellar-ataxia" rel="noreferrer noopener">no date has been scheduled</a>.
The FDA did not raise any new concerns in the letter. The&nbsp;FDA&#8217;s&nbsp;decision regarding the NDA is expected in the fourth quarter of 2025, compared to the third quarter of 2025, which <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/25/05/n45359249/biohaven-reports-first-quarter-2025-financial-results-and-recent-business-developments" rel="noreferrer noopener">was expected earlier</a>.
Vlad Coric, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Biohaven, stated, &#8220;The clinical data presented in the NDA show a highly favorable benefit-risk profile with troriluzole, a once-daily oral pill, slowing disease progression by 50-70%, as measured by the f-SARA scale, and reducing the risk of falls.&#8221;
The company recently completed&nbsp;the FDA mid-cycle review meeting and regulatory inspections of&nbsp;Biohaven&nbsp;and key clinical research sites for troriluzole for SCA. The mid-cycle review concluded that there were no previously unidentified major safety concerns, and it does not appear a Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS) is needed.
In April, the company announced an up to&nbsp;$600 million&nbsp;non-dilutive capital agreement with Oberland Capital Management LLC. The agreement, with&nbsp;$250 million&nbsp;in gross proceeds received on closing on&nbsp;April 30, 2025, is expected to support commercial launch planning in SCA, clinical development activities, and ongoing business operations.
Cash, cash equivalents, marketable securities and restricted cash as of&nbsp;April 30, 2025&nbsp;totaled approximately&nbsp;$518 million.
Analysts at William Blair called the delay surprising, especially given the proximity to the completed mid-cycle review. Biohaven shares are trading down in response to the PDUFA extension and an FDA regulatory landscape with increasing uncertainty given restructuring efforts, as per William Blair.
&#8220;We understand the uncertainty here and the perceived increase in regulatory uncertainty, but we remain optimistic that the FDA will show more regulatory flexibility than the EMA given the rare-disease nature of SCA, lack of treatment options for the disease, and troriluzole&#8217;s risk/benefit compared to propensity-matched natural history data,&#8221; William Blair analysts said.
William Blair <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/BHVN/analyst-ratings" rel="noreferrer noopener">reiterates the Outperform rating</a> given the conviction in the likelihood of approval.

President Donald Trump announced a sweeping $1.2 trillion economic agreement with Qatar on Wednesday, capping what he called a &#8220;historic&#8221; trip with a series of massive deals spanning aviation, defense, energy and technology. That comes on top of $600 billion investment commitment secured in <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/large-cap/25/05/45405067/saudi-arabia-bets-big-on-ai-teams-up-with-aws-and-nvidia">Saudi Arabia a day earlier. </a>
Central to the announcements was a record-breaking $96 billion order from Qatar Airways for Boeing Co. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BA#NYSE">BA</a>) and GE Aerospace (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GE#NYSE">GE</a>). 
"We just had a tremendous order of Boeing. This is Boeing, and this is General Electric," Trump said during a roundtable with U.S. business leaders in Qatar. 
"General Electric, I hear, makes the best large airplane engine in the world—by not even a contest."
The deal includes up to 210 Boeing 787 Dreamliner and 777X aircraft, all powered by GE Aerospace engines. According to a White House fact sheet, the agreement will support 154,000 U.S. jobs annually, totaling over 1 million jobs during production and delivery. 
Larry Culp, CEO of GE Aerospace, called it a historic commitment: "We&#8217;re thrilled about the commitment that Qar Airways has made to both Boeing and GE Aerospace&#8230; with the largest widebody order really in our company&#8217;s history."
"All of these aircraft will be built in the United States, creating a significant number of jobs&#8230; This is the largest widebody aircraft order in Boeing&#8217;s history," Boeing executive Kelly Maloney added.
Shares of GE Aerospace opened 0.7% higher reaching fresh record highs, while Boeing rose 1.9%. 
The White House noted that Qatar's deals extend beyond aerospace, with major commitments in defense, energy, infrastructure, quantum computing, and AI.
Trump also praised Raytheon Corp. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/RTX#NYSE">RTX</a>) and General Atomics for securing deals worth $3 billion in advanced drone and counter-drone systems. The agreements will bolster Qatar's military capabilities while supporting U.S. manufacturing jobs in defense.
In energy, U.S. firm McDermott is working on $8.5 billion in LNG infrastructure projects with QatarEnergy. 
Parsons Corp. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/PSN#NYSE">PSN</a>) secured 30 contracts valued at up to $97 billion, and Quantinuum launched a $1 billion joint venture in quantum technology with Qatari partner Al Rabban Capital.
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Manufacturing, AI and Jobs: A "New Golden Age"</h3>
Trump said the investment wave is ushering in what he called a "new Golden Age" for U.S. manufacturing. He claimed tech giants including Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AAPL#NASDAQ">AAPL</a>) and chipmakers were boosting American operations.
He highlighted Nvidia Corp. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NVDA#NASDAQ">NVDA</a>) CEO Jensen Huang's reported $600 billion investment and a separate $200 billion chip plant in Arizona, calling it the largest in the world.
"Apple's already in for $500 billion&#8230; but now I hear they're building all over India," Trump said, revealing he pressured CEO Tim Cook to boost U.S. production.
"We want you to build here."
President Donald Trump claimed the United States has the potential to attract up to $10 trillion in investments, citing pledges from Gulf allies, foreign governments, defense deals and technology expansions. 
"We have a country that now has… at least $10 trillion of investment and potential investment," Trump said, comparing it to the previous administration's total of "half a trillion."

Trump Secures $1.2 Trillion Qatar Deal As Boeing, GE Land Record Orders

Mastercard Incorporated (NYSE: MA) announced on Thursday that it is <a href="https://www.mastercard.com/news/press/2025/may/mastercard-and-moonpay-team-up-to-mainstream-stablecoin-payments/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">partnering</a> with crypto infrastructure company MoonPay to launch stablecoin-based payment solutions for global use. The company said the collaboration aims to bridge traditional finance with the crypto economy.
The partnership allows fintechs and enterprises to issue Mastercard-branded cards linked to stablecoin balances.
These cards will automatically convert stablecoins into fiat currency, making them usable at more than 150 million merchant locations worldwide.

MoonPay will utilize API technology from Iron, a company it recently acquired, to support these transactions.
The system will transform crypto wallets into functional digital accounts, streamlining international payments and enabling faster, more efficient disbursements, particularly for freelancers, gig workers, and digital creators.
Combining Mastercard&#8217;s extensive payment infrastructure with MoonPay&#8217;s crypto user base of over 100 million, the initiative seeks to expand stablecoin adoption.
With around 20 million wallets transacting in stablecoins monthly and 120 million holding such assets, the demand for spendable digital currencies is rising.
Scott Abrahams, Mastercard&#8217;s executive vice president of Global Partnerships, stated that the goal is to &#8220;unlock stablecoin utility and ubiquity&#8221; and reshape how cross-border payments operate.
Ivan Soto-Wright, MoonPay&#8217;s CEO, highlighted that the partnership will bring &#8220;trusted stablecoin-enabled cards&#8221; to the global crypto community.
By enabling real-time conversion of crypto to fiat, the initiative is a major step in integrating digital assets into mainstream finance.
