German and Euro Area<a href="https://europeancapitalinsights.substack.com/p/german-euro-area-economic-sentiment?r=3nmatg"> economic sentiment plummeted</a> to multi-year lows after US President Donald Trump's "Liberation Day" speech.
The ZEW Indicator of Economic Sentiment for Germany dropped to minus 14.0 points, or 65.6 points below the previous month's reading, the non-profit ZEW Institute <a href="https://www.zew.de/en/">said</a> on Tuesday. That was <a href="https://x.com/eurocapinsights/status/1912152094636671006">the lowest level since</a> the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

ZEW President Achim Wambach said the "erratic changes" in the US trade policy under Trump had weighed "heavily on expectations" in Europe's largest economy.
"It is not only the consequences the announced reciprocal tariffs may have on global trade,"&nbsp; Wambach said. It is "also the dynamics of their changes that have massively increased global uncertainty," he added.&nbsp;
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Trump's Policies Will Impact German Export-Intensive Sectors</h2>
Trump's economic policy shift will likely impact German export-intensive sectors, such as the automobile and chemical industries, Zew said. The policies could affect metal, steel and mechanical engineering sectors, it added.&nbsp;&nbsp;
Following Trump&#8217;s April 2 speech, German conglomerate Siemens (OTCPK: SIEGY) dropped over 22%, touching €162.38 before reversing above €180. Defense industry firm Rheinmetall (OTCPK: RNMBF) saw a bigger drop, reaching a €933 low before reversing and making a new all-time high at €1497 today.
While Siemens has been a high-volatility stock (1.16 Beta), this market action is atypical for Rheinmetall, which is more stable than the broad market (0.46 Beta).
"For a minute, German investors believed they could shine with their country, providing billions of euros in defense and infrastructure spending," Jeroen Blokland, founder of the  Netherlands-based Blokland Smart Multi-Asset Fund, wrote on<a href="https://x.com/jsblokland/status/1912103420539891946"> X</a>.  
"But the man on the other side of the Atlantic decided differently, causing a collapse in German investor sentiment." 
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">ING Lowers Economic Forecast for Germany</h2>
<a href="https://think.ing.com/articles/eurozone-recovery-facing-serious-headwinds/">ING Think has forecasted that</a> the German economy will stagnate in the second and third quarters of this year, resulting in 0.5% GDP annual growth. Economic forecasts are "highly uncertain" given that the trade situation "may swiftly change again," it warned.
Germany's planned <a href="https://x.com/eurocapinsights/status/1912153344358916446">expansionary budget</a> may improve GDP growth in 2026, ING Think said today. "But due to a weaker carry-over effect, we have also reduced next year&#8217;s growth forecast to 1.1% (down from 1.4%)," it said. 
Germany&#8217;s fiscal U-turn and the promise of increased defense spending across Europe had raised hopes for accelerated growth starting next year, ING Think said. Improved confidence indicators reflected that optimism. 
The announcement of blanket US import tariffs of 20% on the EU "drastically altered the mood," it said.&nbsp;

<a href="https://medium.com/@EuropeanCapitalInsights/german-euro-area-economic-sentiment-plunges-after-trump-announces-tariffs-on-liberation-day-23d76689e76c">Following Germany</a>, the economic sentiment in the Euro Area also plummeted, according to ZEW. The ZEW Indicator of Economic Sentiment for the Euro Area fell 58.3 points from the prior month to -18.5 in April 2025, the lowest since December 2022 and well below expectations of 14.2. 
In April, about 41.1% of the surveyed analysts expected no changes in economic activity, 20.2% saw an improvement and 38.7% anticipated a deterioration, <a href="https://tradingeconomics.com/euro-area/zew-economic-sentiment-index">according</a> to Trading Economics. The indicator of the current economic situation decreased by 5.7 points to -50.9 and inflation expectations fell by 9.1 points to -3.1.

"The trade war is dashing hopes for a robust eurozone recovery," ING Think said. Inflationary pressures are likely to ease in the second half, it added.&nbsp;
Slowing inflation will provide the European Central Bank (ECB) "ample opportunity" to implement three additional 25 basis point-rate cuts this year, ING said. The <a href="https://www.ecb.europa.eu/press/pr/date/2025/html/ecb.mp250306~d4340800b3.en.html#:~:text=ECB%20interest%20rates-,The%20Governing%20Council%20today%20decided%20to%20lower%20the%20three%20key,effect%20from%2012%20March%202025.">ECB lowered</a> on March 6 its three key interest rates by 25 basis points.
Analysts forecast a further 25 basis points cut at the next meeting on April 17. This would bring the main refinancing rate down to 2.40%.&nbsp;
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Trump Tariff Plans Weigh on US Consumer Sentiment</h2>
President Trump sent ripples through the global economy when he announced on April 2 his reciprocal tariff strategy from the White House. From April 5, a 10% flat-rate tariff came into force on all goods imported into the US.&nbsp;
Four days later, a second phase of Trump&#8217;s plan targeted roughly 60 countries described by the White House as "worst offenders" in trade practices. The US imposed country-specific tariffs on China (54%), Vietnam (46%), and the European Union (20%).&nbsp;
Though Trump has put a 90-day pause on all tariffs except against China, the tariff policy has impacted US consumer sentiment as well. The Federal Reserve Bank of New York's March Survey of Consumer Expectations <a href="https://www.newyorkfed.org/newsevents/news/research/2025/20250414">showed</a> that short-term inflation expectations have risen.&nbsp;
The survey showed that median inflation expectations increased by 0.5 percentage points to 3.6% at the one-year-ahead horizon. At the same time, mean unemployment expectations rose 4.6 percentage points to 44%, hitting the highest level since April 2020.

US administration officials, though, downplayed the concerns about tariffs.&nbsp;
"They did everything they could to create a panic," David Sacks, White House A.I. &amp; Crypto Czar, <a href="https://x.com/DavidSacks/status/1910035952283857213">wrote</a> on his personal X account. "They were rooting for Trump to fail even if it meant the market and economy crashed. Trump has been vindicated. China is isolated, and the rest of the world is lining up to negotiate new trade deals."

Donald Trump is expanding his crypto footprint with the development of a digital real estate game that sources say resembles a Monopoly-style experience, marking the latest addition to his <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cryptocurrency/25/04/44779915/trump-family-deepens-crypto-ties-with-nearly-1-billion-on-the-line">fast-growing suite of crypto ventures</a>.
What Happened: The upcoming title is reportedly being developed by Trump associate Bill Zanker and aims to launch by late April, Fortune <a href="https://fortune.com/crypto/2025/04/15/trump-crypto-monopoly-bill-zanker-nfts-memecoin/">reported</a>, quoting two individuals familiar with the matter.
While a spokesperson for Zanker denied direct similarities to MONOPOLY GO!, they confirmed that a crypto-focused game is in the works. 
"He is working on a game," said Kevin Mercuri, adding that any Monopoly comparison was "hearsay." 
Hasbro, which owns the Monopoly brand, also said it has not licensed its IP to any Trump-affiliated crypto ventures.
The project follows Trump's growing involvement in digital assets, including NFT collections, a memecoin, the DeFi firm <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cryptocurrency/25/04/44749223/trump-affiliated-world-liberty-financial-denies-8-million-ethereum-sell-off-loss">World Liberty Financial</a>, a stablecoin project, and a Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) mining company co-owned by his sons, Eric and Donald Jr. 
Sources say Zanker, who helped launch Trump's meme coin Trump (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/">TRUMP</a>) and NFT line, is also behind this new crypto game, although specific blockchain integrations have not been disclosed.
In May 2024, Zanker reportedly approached Hasbro to reacquire rights to Trump: The Game, a Monopoly-inspired board game released in 1989. 
The company no longer held the rights, sources said, and the plan to rebrand or reuse the original title didn't materialize.

Recent trademark filings by DTTM Operations, the entity managing Trump's intellectual property, suggest an expanded interest in virtual goods and crypto-related licensing, including NFTs and digital apparel.
However, Zanker's team declined to confirm whether these filings are connected to the upcoming game.
The push into crypto gaming comes as Trump takes a more proactive role in shaping U.S. crypto policy. 
He's appointed a dedicated <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/03/44209136/trumps-crypto-czar-david-sacks-reveals-us-government-missed-out-on-gains-of-over-17-billion-by-selling-bitcoin-early">AI and crypto adviser</a>, supported the creation of a <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cryptocurrency/25/04/44816420/trump-administration-is-only-looking-to-accumulate-bitcoin-bo-hines-says">national digital asset reserve</a> and backed <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cryptocurrency/25/04/44759645/trump-signs-landmark-crypto-law-repeals-biden-era-irs-rule-targeting-defi-platforms">upcoming legislation</a>.
This has drawn scrutiny over possible conflicts of interest, particularly given the Trump Organization's direct investments in the sector.
What&#8217;s NExt: Eric Trump, in a recent interview, defended the family&#8217;s crypto involvement. "This is something our family believes," he said. "It's something our family speaks about with our heart and soul."
Zanker, known for founding The Learning Annex and partnering with Trump on a co-authored book about success, reconnected with the former president in recent years to spearhead his digital ventures. 
He's also linked to the Trump-themed meme coin project, FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT LLC, as listed on its certificate of formation.

While U.S. cannabis companies fight over dispensary licenses, banking reform and federal decriminalization, a quieter revolution is underway—one that's being seeded, quite literally, from across the Atlantic.
In basements and backyards from New York to Minnesota, U.S. homegrowers are buying more cannabis seeds than ever before. And many of those seeds aren't coming from California, Oregon or Colorado. They're coming from places like Barcelona and Amsterdam—courtesy of Europe's thriving, decades-old seed industry, <a href="https://www.forbes.com/sites/javierhasse/2025/01/20/how-european-cannabis-seed-companies-are-quietly-taking-over-the-us-market/">now taking over the American market</a>.
Among the most prolific players in this silent surge is Fast Buds, a Spanish-born cannabis genetics company that now ships more than 3 million seeds annually, one million of which are headed to the U.S. alone.
"The United States is our second-largest market, contributing around 30% of our global sales… Demand is spread coast to coast. Top states [include]: Ohio, Minnesota, Illinois, Virginia and New York," said Eugene Boukreev, head of marketing at Fast Buds, in an exclusive interview with Benzinga. "What sets the U.S. apart isn't just its size, but its remarkable consistency."
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">The Rise Of U.S. Homegrow</h3>
More than 30 states now permit some form of home cultivation for medical or adult-use cannabis. As dispensary prices stay high and product quality fluctuates, more Americans are turning to grow tents, LED rigs and online seed orders to take control of their cannabis experience.
A major catalyst came in 2022 when the DEA clarified that cannabis seeds containing less than 0.3% delta-9 THC by dry weight fall under the definition of legal hemp—regardless of the strain or how the plant might grow once cultivated. Because seeds in their dormant state contain only trace, non-activated levels of THC, virtually all cannabis seeds meet the legal criteria for hemp, even if they come from high-THC cultivars. This federal clarification opened the floodgates for international seed banks to ship directly to U.S. customers without violating the Controlled Substances Act.
Fast Buds, launched in 2010 as a two-person operation, has capitalized on the moment. The company now employs over 100 people and operates global offices in Los Angeles, Barcelona, London, Bangkok and Prague. Its logistics network includes domestic fulfillment hubs in the U.S., E.U. and Asia.

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Autoflowers: The Underdog Genetics Taking Over</h3>
While many legacy growers swear by photoperiod strains—those that require strict light cycles to trigger flowering—Fast Buds built its reputation on a once-dismissed format: autoflowers.

Autoflowering cannabis plants bloom based on age, not light exposure. While they typically produce smaller yields than photoperiod strains—generally 20–30% less per plant—many growers see the trade-off as worth it for the speed and simplicity they offer.
"In the U.S., the shift toward autoflowers is accelerating, especially among hobbyists and pro growers chasing efficient extract yields," Boukreev noted.
According to Fast Buds, autoflowers capture up to 60% of the market in short-season regions like northern Europe and the northern U.S., while photoperiods still dominate in warmer climates.
The company recently introduced its first line of feminized photoperiods, but autoflowers remain its bestselling category. Its top five global strains—Strawberry Gorilla, Gorilla Cookies, Purple Lemonade, Lemon Cherry Cookies and Guava Auto—blend high potency with rich terpene profiles, checking the boxes for flavor-obsessed growers.
"The spotlight is shifting away from just THC levels," Boukreev said. "Growers and consumers alike are seeking out strains that deliver a memorable sensory experience."
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Direct-To-Consumer And The Power of First-Timers</h3>
Fast Buds isn't just growing—it's evolving. A decade ago, 100% of its revenue came through distributors. Today, nearly 50% of its global sales come from direct-to-consumer orders, driven by a robust e-commerce platform and tailored logistics.
Each year, the company fulfills more than 87,000 direct orders, with customers typically purchasing 5 to 7 seeds per transaction. Incredibly, 70% of those buyers are first-timers, a signal that Fast Buds is expanding beyond veteran growers into a broader, lifestyle-focused audience.
"Our direct-to-consumer channel has become a cornerstone of our business," Boukreev told Benzinga. "At the same time, our B2B network remains strong, supporting over 1,500 retail partners worldwide, including 62 U.S. locations."
This hybrid model—deep community engagement with broad market reach—helps Fast Buds future-proof its operations while diversifying its revenue base.
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">What's Next For Seeds?</h3>
As the global cannabis market continues to mature, genetics are emerging as a high-value, often underappreciated vertical. Cultivars with distinct terpene profiles, unique aesthetics and balanced effects are gaining traction with connoisseurs and casual users.
That demand is especially evident in the U.S., where regulatory gridlock has slowed innovation in other sectors. While operators wait for banking access or interstate commerce, home growers are experimenting and spending.
"Today's consumers—especially daytime smokers—are looking for flavor, balance and a deeper, more curated experience," said Boukreev. "That's exactly where we're placing our focus: vibrant, terpene-rich, artisanal strains that bring character and complexity to the forefront. People are starting to explore terpene profiles the way wine lovers explore tasting notes—and we love that."
This trend mirrors broader shifts in global cannabis. In Germany, for instance, a new legalization framework went into effect in April 2024, allowing limited personal cultivation. Germany's medical cannabis prescriptions <a href="https://thedalesreport.com/cannabis/how-german-election-results-could-impact-cannabis/">rose</a> nearly 10x in one year, from 1.5 to nearly 10 metric tons—signaling rising demand for localized cultivation and reliable genetics.
Fast Buds has positioned itself to ride that wave, both in the U.S. and abroad. With global offices, flexible fulfillment and a growing base of loyal growers, the company may be quietly outpacing many flashier North American brands.
Because while the cannabis industry argues over headlines, seed companies are focused on something more enduring: the roots.
