U.S. stocks rebounded sharply on Wednesday, fully erasing last Friday's losses, as upbeat corporate earnings and renewed investor optimism outweighed concerns <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/tariffs">over escalating trade tensions.</a>

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AAPL#NASDAQ">AAPL</a>) led the charge among mega-cap names, jumping nearly 6% after the White House unveiled a new $100 billion manufacturing investment plan aimed at boosting domestic production. 



The move is seen by investors as a possible signal toward a more favorable tariff environment for Apple, even as President Donald Trump imposed an additional 25% tariff on Indian imports in response to the country's continued purchases of Russian oil. This brings the overall tariff rate on <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/asia/25/08/46908150/trump-tariffs-india-russian-oil-imports-2025">Indian goods to 50%</a>.



With no significant economic data released during the session, market focus remained firmly on corporate earnings and forward guidance.



The S&amp;P 500 rose 0.8% to 6,345, reclaiming levels from before last week's disappointing July jobs report.



The Nasdaq 100 outperformed, climbing 1.2%, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average lagged slightly, gaining 0.3%.



Small caps took a breather, falling 0.4% after two positive closes.



Crude oil saw choppy action, briefly falling to $64.60 per barrel before rebounding on news that the U.S. will implement fresh sanctions on Russia this Friday. Gold and silver were little changed at $3,376 and $37.80 per ounce, respectively.

Advanced Micro Devices (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AMD#NASDAQ">AMD</a>) analysts break down the<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/earnings/25/08/46872731/amd-q2-earnings-revenue-beat-eps-miss-robust-ai-product-demand-positions-company-for-significant-growth-in-back-half-of-year"> Q2 financial results </a>and highlight what could happen in the second half of the fiscal year.

Goldman Sachs on AMD: The company showed Datacenter GPU momentum, but questions remain regarding scale and operating leverage, Schneider said in a new investor note.



"We expect the stock to be range bound following a strong quarter with guidance that was above the Street, offset by high expectations and stock outperformance heading into the quarter," Schneider said.



The analyst said the AMD stock price could hinge on the level of Data Center GPU revenue in 2026.



"Based on our latest estimates, we view ~$10-11 billion as realistic – but we think investor expectations are well ahead of this level."



Schneider remains Neutral on AMD with questions on the company's market share in the PC and enterprise server segments.



KeyBanc on AMD: Strong second quarter results and a path to ramp up MI355 were highlights from the company's earnings for Vinh.



"We're encouraged by these results and the strong ramp of MI355," Vinh said.



The analyst said AMD is seeing strong high-end desktop demand, gaining market share in premium segments and seeing growing commercial momentum.



"We are firm believers in AMD's revitalized product road map strategy, and product traction is compelling."



The analyst said that expectations for AMD gaining market share could be too high and provides "substantial risk" to the share price, based on a valuation level that is well above that of its peers.



Wedbush on AMD: Second quarter results were good, but AMD now has lofty expectations from the company and investors, Bryson said in a new investor note.



"The Q3 outlook was better than expected on substantial Q/Q DC GPU growth expectations, even without assuming any MI308 export licenses are granted," Bryson said.



The analyst stated that the guidance positions AMD to exceed prior analyst estimates in the coming quarters.



China remains a wild card, with guidance not including future revenue for the country.



While China could provide more upside in the future, the analyst said strength in client and server compute markets can help offset weaker GPU results.



"Our view is rather that AMD's increased guide should be viewed as a positive outcome, particularly given the likelihood sales to China do eventually resume."



Benchmark on AMD: Strong data center and client market share gains highlight the Q2 strength, Acree said in a new investor note.



The analyst said the ramp of new AI GPUs bodes well for the second half of the fiscal year.



"For Q3, AMD's growth is expected to be driven by a strong double-digit increase in the Data Center, particularly in MI350 ramps," Acree said.



With the stock trading down after hours on Tuesday, the analyst said the move could be investors taking profits after shares had risen 26% in the last month and 56% over the last six months.



Acree said stronger-than-expected results, market share gains, and the ramp of new AI GPUs should be top storylines to follow for AMD going forward.



"We see a lot about AMD for investors to be encouraged and excited about."



AMD Price Action: AMD stock is down 8.1% to $160.28 on Wednesday versus a 52-week trading range of $76.48 to $182.50. AMD stock is up 32.9% year-to-date in 2025.

Rocket Lab Q2 Earnings Preview: Will Shares Lift Off After Results, Launch Update?

The July Federal Reserve meeting may go down as the most divided in over three decades, as two key board members, Michelle Bowman and Christopher Waller, broke ranks by voting for a rate cut, while Chair Jerome Powell and the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/macro-economic-events/25/07/46733603/fed-holds-trump-powell-waller-bowman-interest-rates">majority held rates steady.</a>

But a dismal July jobs report, which saw a massive 258,000 jobs slashed from prior months' figures, has sparked new urgency among central bankers and Wall Street analysts to pull forward rate cuts—even from some of the Fed's most hawkish voices.



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Kashkari Turns Dovish: &#8220;The Economy Is Slowing&#8221;</h3>



Minneapolis Fed president Neel Kashkari, long known for supporting tighter policy, told CNBC's Squawk Box on Wednesday that the economic outlook is softening fast.



"The real underlying economy is slowing," Kashkari said. "In the near term, it may become appropriate to start adjusting the federal funds rate."



He signaled that rate cuts could be necessary if current trends continue and cast doubt on the inflationary impact of Trump-era tariffs, noting that their effects may take several quarters to materialize.



"I don't have confidence yet in what the ultimate effects of tariffs are going to be on inflation," Kashkari said. "Tariffs are just such an unknown right now."



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Goldman Sachs Sees Economy Near ‘Stall Speed'</h3>



Economists at Goldman Sachs echoed Kashkari's concerns, highlighting that job market weakness is being driven by a broader economic slowdown exacerbated by trade frictions.



In a note shared Wednesday, chief economist Jan Hatzius warned that job cuts and revisions are becoming self-reinforcing.



"Friday's jobs numbers reinforced our view that US growth is near stall speed," Hatzius said.



Goldman notes that U.S. real GDP grew just 1.2% annualized in the first half of 2025, nearly a full point below their estimate of potential output. The firm expects similarly weak growth in the second half.



Hatzius attributes the current softness in part to higher tariffs, which are feeding through to slower output, reduced consumer spending, and weaker hiring.



&#8220;Real disposable income and consumer spending are likely to grow very slowly, not just because of the weakness in job growth but also because most of the pass-through from tariffs to consumer prices is still ahead of us,&#8221; he said.



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Goldman Eyes Five Rate Cuts In A Year</h3>



Goldman's base case remains for three 25-basis-point rate cuts in September, October and December, followed by two more cuts in the first half of 2026.



However, if the next jobs report shows another uptick in unemployment or a spike in initial claims, a 50-basis-point cut in September could be on the table. 



Markets currently price in a 93% probability of a 25-basis-point rate cut in September, with odds of a second cut in October at 61%.

Another Fed Official Backs A Rate Cut—Goldman Sees Trouble Ahead If The Fed Waits

After Caterpillar Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CAT#NYSE">CAT</a>) delivered a mixed <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/earnings/25/08/46863726/rising-tariffs-undercut-caterpillars-q2-performance-even-as-order-backlog-swells-by-2-5-billion">second-quarter earnings result</a>, CNBC&#8217;s &#8216;Mad Money&#8217; host Jim Cramer highlighted how President Donald Trump&#8216;s policies are reshaping corporate cost structures and may normalize tariff hits as a business expense.



What Happened: Caterpillar&#8217;s GAAP operating profit of $2.860 billion, representing a 17.3% margin, decreased by $622 million, or 18%, compared with $3.482 billion from the second quarter of the previous fiscal year.



This was primarily due to unfavorable manufacturing costs, which the company repeatedly said &#8220;largely reflected the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/earnings/25/08/46863726/rising-tariffs-undercut-caterpillars-q2-performance-even-as-order-backlog-swells-by-2-5-billion">impact of higher tariffs</a>.&#8221;



Cramer highlighted in a series of X posts that despite this hit, he bought the stock anyway.

Uber Technologies (NYSE: UBER) reported&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/25/08/b46890779/uber-announces-results-for-second-quarter-2025" rel="noreferrer noopener">fiscal second-quarter</a> 2025&nbsp;results on Wednesday. <h2 class="wp-block-heading">MI355 Gains Ground Amid Strong AI Demand</h2>

Su added that the company expects continued revenue growth from its data center GPU business throughout the second half of the year.



"We're bullish on MI355 and where the AI opportunity is for us," she said. "And I think we're right on track to what we expected."

As Nvidia struggles in the AI chip market due to U.S. export bans and supply shortages, AMD has <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/tech/25/08/46859396/amd-aims-to-dethrone-nvidia-in-ai-race-heres-how">emerged as a viable challenger</a> — especially in India and the UAE.



Nvidia's H100 chips, priced up to $40,000, remain the go-to for tech giants like Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MSFT#NASDAQ">MSFT</a>) and Meta Platforms, Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/META#NASDAQ">META</a>). However, AMD's MI300 series offers a more affordable and power-efficient alternative.



The MI300X features 192GB of memory — double that of Nvidia's H100 — and the MI350X is expected to cost around $25,000.

Advanced Micro Devices Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AMD#NASDAQ">AMD</a>) reported financial results for the second quarter after the market close on Tuesday. Here&#8217;s a look at the key details from <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/25/08/g46871846/amd-reports-second-quarter-2025-financial-results">the chipmaker&#8217;s report</a>.



Q2 Earnings: AMD reported second-quarter revenue of $7.69 billion, beating&nbsp;<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/AMD/earnings" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">analyst estimates</a>&nbsp;of $7.41 billion, according to <a href="http://pro.benzinga.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Benzinga Pro</a>. The company reported second-quarter adjusted earnings of 48 cents per share, missing estimates of 49 cents per share.



Total revenue was up 32% year-over-year. Here's a breakdown of revenue by segment.

<li>Client and Gaming: $3.6 billion, up 69% year-over-year</li>

Non-GAAP gross margin came in at 43% in the quarter. AMD said the U.S. Government&#8217;s export controls on its AMD Instinct MI308 GPUs led to approximately $800 million in inventory and related charges. Excluding these charges, gross margin would have been 54%.



The company reported operating income of $897 million and ended the period with approximately $4.44 billion in cash and cash equivalents.



&#8220;We delivered strong revenue growth in the second quarter, led by record server and PC processor sales,&#8221; said Lisa Su, chair and CEO of AMD.



&#8220;We are seeing robust demand&nbsp;across our computing and AI product portfolio and are well positioned to deliver significant growth in the second half of the year, driven by the ramp of our AMD Instinct MI350 series accelerators and ongoing EPYC and Ryzen processor share gains.&#8221;



Outlook:&nbsp;AMD sees third-quarter revenue of approximately $8.7 billion, plus or minus $300 million. Analysts are currently forecasting revenue of approximately $8.15 billion for the third quarter, per <a href="http://pro.benzinga.com">Benzinga Pro</a> estimates.



AMD&#8217;s management team will further discuss the quarter on an earnings call with investors and analysts at 5 p.m. ET.



AMD Price Action: <a href="http://benzinga.com/quote/amd" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">AMD shares</a> were up approximately 45% year-to-date heading into the print. Shares were down 4.90% in after-hours, trading at $165.77 at the time of publication on Tuesday, according to <a href="http://pro.benzinga.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Benzinga Pro</a>.

AMD Q2 Earnings: Revenue Beat, EPS Miss, 'Robust' AI Product Demand Positions Company For 'Significant Growth' In Back Half Of Year

Electric vehicle company Rivian Automotive (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/RIVN#NASDAQ">RIVN</a>) reported second quarter financial results<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/earnings"> after market close Tuesday.</a>



Here are the key highlights.



What Happened: Rivian reported second-quarter net sales of $1.303 billion, up 5.1% year-over-year. The revenue beat a Street consensus estimate of $1.29 billion according to data <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/pro/register?utm_adType=bzprocontent&amp;utm_campaign=14daytrial&amp;utm_ad=0805">from Benzinga Pro.</a>



The company reported an adjusted loss of 97 cents per share. It missed the Street consensus estimate — a loss of 76 cents per share.



Rivian previously stated it produced 5,979 vehicles and delivered 10,661 cars in the quarter. The results come with production limited.



Rivian announced that it received a $1 billion equity investment from Volkswagen Group (OTC:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/VWAGY#OTC">VWAGY</a>) as of June 30.



The company said it is on track for the progress of the highly anticipated R2 vehicle. Design validation is ongoing, and testing is underway.



"This quarter we made significant progress in R2 development and testing. We also substantially completed the expansion of our Normal, Illinois facility and have begun installing manufacturing equipment in preparation for our start of production," Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe said.

What's Next: Rivian said recent policy actions could impact financial results and cash flows, while remaining committed to the long-term opportunity for growth and profitability.



"Rivian remains focused on developing world class technology and efficiently scaling its manufacturing capacity in the United States in light of these policy changes," the company said.



Rivian is maintaining its 2025 delivery guidance of a range of 40,000 to 46,000 vehicles.



Rivian plans to commission its new R2 line in the third quarter. The Normal factory will close for three weeks in September to increase manufacturing capacity to 215,000 units.



Due to changes with regulatory credits and the second-quarter performance, Rivian is increasing its guidance range for an adjusted EBITDA loss in the range of $2 billion to $2.25 billion.



"Along with R2, our autonomy platform continues to be one of our major focus areas, and we're excited to share more of our roadmap later this year," Scaringe said.



RIVN Price Action: Rivian stock is down 4% to $11.68 in after-hours trading Tuesday versus a 52-week trading range of $9.50 to $17.14.

Rivian Q2 Earnings: Revenue Beat, EPS Miss, Delivery Guidance Stays On Track, But With Heavier Losses

Volatility returned to the markets in a significant way last week, as major indices posted their most substantial losses since April, following a mixed batch of earnings and a disappointing jobs report that included three months of downward revisions.



The fireworks continued into Friday when President Trump <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/macro-economic-events/25/08/46818659/fired-labor-bureau-commissioner-speaks-out-after-trump-firing-over-job-numbers">abruptly fired</a> the commissioner of the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).



With new tariffs set to take effect this month and the job market looking increasingly shaky, investors may be cashing out some of the winners from the last few months and seeking safer havens for the second half of 2025. 



That doesn&#8217;t always mean dividend stocks or defensive sectors. You can also ride out volatility by focusing on companies with strong earnings that are raising guidance or adding to their backlogs.&nbsp;



Earnings season in Q2 produced a variety of winners and losers. The following four companies exceeded expectations with exceptionally strong earnings.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Meta Platforms</h2>



Sometimes you can sit back and let the numbers speak for themselves. Meta Platforms (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/META#NASDAQ">META</a>) continues to be the undisputed king of online advertising, and its Q2 revenue topped $47 billion, a number even NVIDIA couldn't match this quarter. The figure marked revenue growth of more than 21% year-over-year (YoY), and the $7.14 EPS figure obliterated the expected $5.75. A year ago, the company reported $5.15 EPS in Q2 and $39 billion in revenue, and the growth is showing no signs of stopping. META is committing even more capital expenditures to its AI projects, which is good news not just for the AI market but also for the other companies on this list that support these projects and data centers.

META shot to new all-time highs following the blowout earnings release, though the makings of the rally have been underway for several months now. After triggering an Oversold signal on the Relative Strength Index (RSI) in April, the stock has gained more than 30% in the last three months. A Golden Cross in June further boosted the stock, and a subsequent pullback to the 50-day moving average preceded the earnings release. The stock has sold off in the days following the report, and the RSI is back under 70, which could provide a spot for new buyers to get their feet wet.



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Comfort Systems USA</h2>



Comfort Systems USA (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/FIX#NYSE">FIX</a>) is a large-cap HVAC manufacturer and also one of the biggest winners in an economy with skyrocketing data center demand. What does an HVAC company have to do with artificial intelligence? All those data centers operating 24/7 absorb a tremendous amount of energy, but also produce immense amounts of heat. For data centers to operate efficiently, they require custom-designed air conditioning (A/C) systems to keep their servers cool.

Comfort Systems USA reported a top and bottom line beat during its Q2 earnings release on July 24, with revenue soaring to $2.17 billion, a 20% YOY gain. The company also reported a record backlog of over $8 billion, indicating that revenue growth is unlikely to slow down anytime soon. As AI capital expenditure (capex) grows, so will the need for HVAC solutions in data centers, and FIX has become a "picks and shovels" AI play. It also hits a trifecta of Benzinga Edge scores: 95.75 in Momentum, 92.06 for Value, and 87.59 for Growth.



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Microsoft</h2>



If META had the most eye-popping earnings report in Q2, Microsoft (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MSFT#NASDAQ">MSFT</a>) wasn't far behind as the AI hyperscaler wars enter their most intense phase yet. The company reported more than $76 billion in quarterly revenue on its July 30 release, a YOY acceleration of 18%. The EPS estimate of $3.35 was also beaten, coming in at $3.65. In 2024, Microsoft's Q2 EPS figure was $2.95. In the coming year, MSFT expects double-digit growth in both revenue and operating income, driven by its AI division and Copilot, which now boasts over 100 million monthly active users.

Analysts were out in force boosting targets following the Q2 releases, including a new Street-high $675 price target from Jefferies (upside of over 28%). The chart also shows a promising long-term trend, with some post-earnings profit-taking, offering a new entry point. The stock gained nearly 12% in the early session following the Wednesday night release, but gave back almost all the gains in the following two days as economic and political news strained the market. In our view, this could be a buying opportunity, as MSFT&#8217;s capex spending is unlikely to slow down, and the 50-day and 200-day moving averages confirm the stock's long-term uptrend.



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Advanced Micro Devices&nbsp;</h2>



AMD (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AMD#NASDAQ">AMD</a>) reports after the market closes on August 5, but markets are forward-looking and there's good reason to believe AMD will build on its Q1 earnings release, which saw data center revenue grow more than 50% YOY. AMD shares are beating NVDA so far in 2025, despite NVDA continuing to mesmerize the market with its revenue and earnings figures. AMD shares are up 42% year-to-date (YTD), compared to 30% for NVDA. AMD has a broader product line and aims to capture a portion of NVDA's 80% data center market share moving forward. The stock price is hinting that the market thinks this goal is possible.

AMD shares broke above the 50-day moving average in June; the stock has continued its torrid pace ever since. By July, it had put more distance between itself and NVDA, following a Golden Cross formation and confirmation of the uptrend by the MACD. Analysts at Susquehanna, Morgan Stanley, Bank of America, and UBS Group all boosted their price targets ahead of the company's Tuesday report for Q2, hinting that another beat is in the cards for NVIDIA's main competitor.
