Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer addressed the issue on BBC Radio 5 Live.
&#8220;There are a number of things that we can and should do&#8221; to prevent families from being priced out, he said.

The US-owned ticketing giant has been told it <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/music/article/2024/sep/02/failure-to-warn-oasis-fans-of-dynamic-pricing-may-be-consumer-law-breach-say-experts">may have breached laws</a> in the UK and Europe for inflating the price of some Oasis tickets from £135 to £350, leaving many fans devastated.

Ticketmaster has compared its use of "dynamic pricing" to airlines and hotels, which increase costs based on demand, and has said the prices are set by artists and their management.
The UK's Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) said on Tuesday it was "urgently reviewing" the use of dynamic pricing after Oasis fans criticised the "scandalous" <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/music/article/2024/sep/01/oasis-ticketmaster-in-demand-standing-tickets">inflation of ticket costs</a>.
A spokesperson for the regulator said: "Consumer protection law requires businesses to be fair and transparent in their dealings with consumers, and businesses must give clear and accurate information about the price people have to pay. Failure to do so may breach the law."
A spokesperson for the European Commission confirmed it was looking into the use of dynamic pricing for concert tickets amid growing concerns among parliamentarians in Brussels.
Lara Wolters, a Dutch MEP, told the Guardian she wanted new laws to protect European consumers against this type of price inflation.
She said: "The only winners in this situation are big ticketing platforms, at the expense of fans who find themselves priced out of gigs. Companies know far more about their customers than vice versa.
"This is not a system that seeks to maximise joy by filling the stadium with an artist's biggest fans, but to maximise profit from music like any other product.
"As a music fan, I find this soulless and I want to put a stop to it, so I'm pleased to see the UK government is looking into this, and I expect the new European Commission to follow suit so we can finally bring in new rules against unfair ticketing."
Dynamic pricing for concerts is common in the US but relatively new in the UK and Europe.
A spokesperson for the European Commission confirmed it was examining the practice as part of its "fitness check" of EU consumer laws, due to be published in the coming months.
The review is expected to highlight the problems of dynamic pricing before MEPs consider solutions, including a potential ban and other less extreme options.
The spokesperson said that while the practice itself was not unlawful, the way it was used could breach EU directives – such as if the price of a product was increased after a consumer had placed the ticket in their online basket.
It could also breach EU laws if ticketing websites failed to give fans "necessary material information" about the tickets they offered before they were purchased.
Hundreds of fans have lodged official complaints with the UK's Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) on the basis that Ticketmaster had not told people in advance that £350 tickets would be on sale.
These tickets provide no additional value than the original £135 standing tickets. Four of the "in-demand" standing tickets cost fans £1,423.55 in total – of which £73.55 was service charges and processing fees.
Fans only discovered that the cost of a standard <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/music/oasis">Oasis</a> ticket had been increased when they reached the checkout after spending several hours in online queues.
The CMA has said <a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/news/cma-calls-for-stronger-laws-to-tackle-illegal-ticket-resale">greater protections are needed</a> for concertgoers and has previously taken action against major resale websites.
Lisa Nandy, the culture secretary, has said she wants to end "rip-off resales" and the government has launched a review of the practice.
The Guardian has approached Ticketmaster for comment. Neither Oasis's management or the Gallagher brothers have commented on the criticism.

What Happened: While the new Oasis tour may not eclipse the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/entertainment/23/12/36221025/taylor-swifts-eras-tour-shatters-guinness-record-for-highest-grossing-music-tour-how-much-d">record-breaking tour success</a> of Taylor Swift, for fans of a different genre it could be one of the most highly anticipated reunions of the last 20 years.
"There has been no great revelatory moment that has ignited the reunion — just the gradual realization that the time is right," a press release from the band read, as reported by Variety.
The brothers (Liam Gallagher, Noel Gallagher) said the timing of the announcement coincides with the 30th anniversary of their debut album "Definitely Maybe," which celebrates the milestone on Thursday. The tour taking place in 2025 will coincide with the band's second album "(What's the Story) Morning Glory?" hitting the 30th anniversary milestone.
Both those records and the band's third album were released on Creation Records, now a unit of Sony Group Corp (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SONY#NYSE">SONY</a>). The albums and songs on the records could see a sharp uplift in sales and listens with the news of the reunion announcement.
"The guns have fallen silent. The stars have aligned. The great wait is over. Come see. It will not be televised," the band said of the tour.
Tickets go on sale Aug. 31 at 9 a.m. local time (BST). Tickets will be sold through Ticketmaster for U.K. and Ireland shows and through Gigsandtours.com and seetickets.com. Ticketmaster, a unit of Live Nation Entertainment (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/LYV#NYSE">LYV</a>), could get a boost from being one of the prominent ticket sellers.

Why It's Important: While the 14 dates are in the U.K. and Ireland, the band said plans are underway for a tour outside of Europe next year, according to the press release.
The band broke up in 2009 after Noel Gallagher left the band ahead of a festival appearance. The brothers had a tense relationship since that time with many comments pointing to no chance of ever reconciling or touring again.
Oasis said they do not plan to go into the studio to make new music, but the tour of old songs should be more than enough for fans who have waited 15 years to see them.
Both brothers have toured outside the band and often play Oasis hits. Liam Gallagher recently kicked off a 30th anniversary tour for "Definitely Maybe" in June.
The band remains popular today with an average of 21.6 million monthly listeners on Spotify. While the band says the tour will not be televised, a live performance or docuseries on the tour could attract strong interest from media companies.

Live Nation Entertainment Inc (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/LYV#NYSE">LYV</a>) has been in the news recently thanks to the disclosure of its<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/entertainment/24/07/40053226/live-nation-q2-earnings-revenue-beat-eps-miss-fans-buying-tickets-at-all-price-points"> second-quarter earnings report</a>. On paper, the results were mixed, with earnings per share of $1.03 missing the consensus view of $1.06. However, the top line offered a more encouraging framework, which saw Live Nation generating $6.023 billion versus the estimate of $6.018 billion.
While slipping against bottom-line targets is never ideal, context is everything. In particular, despite a<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/economics/macro-economic-events/24/07/40044042/job-openings-hold-steady-in-june-ahead-of-crucial-july-labor-market-data-why-this"> relatively stable labor market</a>, U.S. households are still struggling with the lingering challenges of the COVID-19 crisis. One year ago, a research paper cited by Bloomberg noted that most Americans had<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/economics/macro-economic-events/23/09/34882494/us-households-have-depleted-their-pandemic-savings-study-highlights-risk-of-econo"> depleted their pandemic savings</a>, thus raising the specter of an economic downturn.
However, Live Nation stated that total revenues gained 7% year over year. In addition, operating income swung up 21% to $466 million. Most notably, company president and CEO Michael Rapino stated that a wealth of entertainment events have attracted "both casual and diehard fans who are buying tickets at all price points."
Moreover, Rapino pointed out that Live Nation's "strategic investments in hospitality and infrastructure are driving strong returns as more attendees maximize their onsite experiences." Such observations reinforce the optimism toward the global live events sector. According to Research and Markets, this ecosystem could soar from last year's valuation of $58.91 billion last year to<a href="https://finance.yahoo.com/news/global-live-events-analysis-report-100900321.html"> just over $754 billion in 2030</a>, implying a compound annual growth rate of 53.78%.
The ETF: While Live Nation represents a key player in the in-person entertainment industry, it's not the only name in town. To enjoy the convenience and profitability potential of the top leaders in music, investors may consider the pure-play thematic exchange-traded fund MUSQ Global Music Industry ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MUSQ#NYSE">MUSQ</a>).

<li>An upside resistance line exists at the psychologically important $25 level. If the bulls manage to lift MUSQ's price above its 50 DMA, this resistance line will likely be in the crosshairs next.</li>

Strong Consumer Demand For Live Concerts Undergirds Pure-Play Music ETF (MUSQ)

Spotify Technology (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SPOT#NYSE">SPOT</a>) generated headlines in the pre-market hours as the company revealed its much-awaited second-quarter earnings report. Ahead of the disclosure, SPOT stock suffered from a<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/analyst-ratings/analyst-color/24/07/39892706/can-spotify-q2-earnings-tune-out-bearish-signals-for-a-bullish-upside"> strongly bearish trend</a> despite an implied robust upside based on analysts' price targets. Therefore, the Q2 print represented an opportunity for the audio streaming service to respond.
The results were exactly what the company needed. Spotify generated earnings of 274 million euros or about $298 million. The bottom-line print was equivalent to 1.33 euros per share, beating the analysts' consensus view of 1.05 euros per share. On the top line, sales hit 3.8 billion euros, which was in line with expectations.
Among the key highlights was growth in monthly active users (MAUs) reaching 14% to 626 million users. While this rally slightly missed the guidance of 631 million, it should be noted that premium subscribers saw a year-over-year increase of 12% to 246 million. This performance beat the consensus estimate by 1 million. Also, advertisement-supported revenue saw a lift of 13% to 456 million euros. The business expansion stemmed from music streaming and podcasts.
On Monday, SPOT stock finished the session at $295.45, up slightly from Friday's close. However, during Tuesday's pre-market session, Spotify shares reached $336, representing growth of nearly 14%.
The MUSQ ETF: While Spotify constitutes a major component of the wider audio-content industry, it's not the only player in town. Currently, the only broad-based pure-play ETF covering the global music industry, the key advantage of the <a href="https://www.musqetf.com/">MUSQ fund</a> is diversification. While Spotify is one of the top holdings of the ETF, it's not the only position. Indeed, SPOT stock represents 3.88% of MUSQ's net assets. Alphabet stock comprises a higher portion of the holdings at 5.8%.
Additionally, MUSQ brings other core components of the music industry to investors in a convenient package, including the content realm – via names like Tencent Music Entertainment Group (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TME#NYSE">TME</a>) – and in-person performance, particularly through Live Nation Entertainment Inc (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/LYV#NYSE">LYV</a>).
Therefore, no one entity can determine the entire trajectory of MUSQ, affording investors the benefit of market risk distribution.
The MUSQ Chart: On Monday, the MUSQ ETF finished the session at $24.52, gaining nearly 1% against Friday's close. The fund appears to have hit a near-term bottom on June 24, steadily gaining sentiment since that session.

<li>Given Tuesday's blistering pre-market performance of SPOT stock, it's possible that MUSQ may see a noticeable bump higher.</li>
