Reported Earlier, Apple's New iPhone Sales In China Rose 20% In First 3 Weeks

EV <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/10/41223011/rivians-production-guidance-cut-spurred-by-miscommunication-with-atlanta-based-supplier-resulting-in">startup</a> Rivian Automotive (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/RIVN#NASDAQ">RIVN</a>) said on Thursday that it will launch its Halloween software update starting Oct. 18, complete with spooky features and car costumes.
What Happened: The company announced the update in a video posted on social media platform X featuring actor David Hasselhoff who starred in the Knight Rider series.

One of the car costumes available with the update is inspired by Knight Rider. The costume will alter the Rivian&#8217;s interior display system and the exterior lightbar on Gen 2 R1 vehicles will cascade a red beam to replicate the experience of K.I.T.T, the robotic automobile that featured in the series.
There are also other car costumes available with the update, inspired by iconic and classic vehicles from pop culture, such as one inspired by the time machine in Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment's Back to the Future, in addition to a spooky option. 
The haunted Rivian car costume has eight different sound effects and three different color themes to choose from ranging between purple, yellow, red, and green. The interior display screen will feature static and ghosts to increase the spooky feeling when the vehicle is parked with the costume. 
Besides Costumes: Besides costumes, Rivian&#8217;s new update changes pedestrians on the driver display to zombies and bicyclists and motorcyclists into headless horsemen. 
Vehicle owners can also play multiple spooky chirp sounds, including one resembling the owl. 
However, the spooky features will only be available for a limited time until November 4, the company warned. Additionally, <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/08/40574576/rivian-or-lucid-which-of-the-two-loss-making-ev-startups-is-solving-cash-burn">both the vehicle</a> and the Rivian mobile app must be updated to their latest versions for the features, it added.

China-based U.S.-listed stocks experienced a notable pre-market rally on Friday, driven by China&#8217;s better-than-expected GDP figures for the third quarter.
What Happened: Several major Chinese companies saw significant gains. As per <a href="https://pro.benzinga.com">Benzinga Pro</a>, Alibaba Group Holding Ltd &#8211; ADR (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BABA#NYSE">BABA</a>) rose by 3.23%, while its rival PDD Holdings Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/PDD#NASDAQ">PDD</a>) increased by 5.38%. Baidu Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BIDU#NASDAQ">BIDU</a>) climbed 4.23%, and JD.Com Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/JD#NASDAQ">JD</a>) was up 5.05%. In the electric vehicle sector, Nio Inc &#8211; ADR (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NIO#NYSE">NIO</a>) and Li Auto Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/LI#NASDAQ">LI</a>) saw increases of 5.44% and 6.48%, respectively.
China&#8217;s GDP grew by 4.6% year-over-year in the third quarter, surpassing expectations from a Reuters poll, though slightly below the 4.7% growth in the previous quarter. As per CNBC, this marks the slowest growth rate since mid-last year, moving further from Beijing&#8217;s 5% annual target. 
Retail sales in September grew by 3.2% year-on-year, exceeding forecasts, and industrial output rose by 5.4%, also surpassing expectations. However, house prices fell by 5.8% year-over-year in September, a larger decline than the 5.3% drop in August. Meanwhile, the CSI 300 index in Mainland China surged 3.62% to close at 3,925.23, after hitting an intraday high of 5.5%.

In late September, China announced a <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/equities/24/10/41182930/china-was-tipping-into-a-japan-style-lost-decade-of-deflation-and-stagnation-before-late-septemb">series of stimulus measures,</a> including a 50 basis-point cut to the mandatory reserve ratio and a reduction in the benchmark policy rate by 0.2 percentage points. The People's Bank of China also reduced rates on existing mortgages and lowered the minimum down payment on second homes. Another billionaire investor is rooting for Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump&#8217;s victory in the Nov. 5 election and has accordingly positioned his portfolio. The call comes on the heels of former hedge fund manager Stanley Druckenmiller&#8216;s<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/analyst-ratings/analyst-color/24/10/41375637/market-very-convinced-of-a-trump-win-says-stanley-druckenmiller-why-billionaire-inv"> similar prediction.</a>
What&#8217;s In Store In Political Arena: &#8220;We believe that the likelihood of a Republican victory in the White House has increased, which would have a positive impact on certain sectors and the market overall,&#8221; said hedge fund Third Point founder and CEO Daniel Loeb said in the firm&#8217;s third-quarter investor letter. 
The hedge fund manager said the &#8220;America First&#8221; tariffs will increase domestic manufacturing, infrastructure spending, and prices of certain materials and commodities. He also said a potential reduction in regulation in the activist antitrust stance of the Biden-Harris administration would unleash productivity and a wave of corporate activity.
&#8220;Accordingly, we have increased certain positions that could benefit from such a scenario via both stock and option purchases and continue to shift our portfolio away from companies that will not,&#8221; the hedge fund manager said. A study of Senate races will likely see Republicans establishing a majority, thus precluding a &#8220;Blue Sweep&#8221; if Kamala Harris wins the race to the White House, according to the hedge-fund manager.
He warned of a &#8220;Blue sweep&#8221; theoretically ushering in crushing taxes, stifling regulations, and a headwind to growth.

Economic Outlook: Loeb reassured investors regarding the economy. &#8220;In the economy, we see no evidence of recession, slowing inflation, and a real interest rate that still needs to come down,&#8221; he said.
The hedge fund manager also sees healthy consumer spending, and active levels of individual investing, providing a liquidity backdrop to sustain market levels. The setup is good for event-driven investing, he said, adding that &#8220;the potential for risk arbitrage transactions and corporate activity could usher in a golden age for the strategy.&#8221;
Third Point&#8217;s Q3 Winners &amp; Losers: Third Point Offshore Fund generated a return of 3.9%, taking the annualized net returns to 13.1%. The third-quarter returns of the fund, however, paled before the S&amp;P 500&#8217;s 5.9% gain and the MSCI World Index&#8217;s 6.5% rise.
Loeb noted that the global market gains continued in the third quarter but the rally broadened out in the quarter, with the Magnificent 7 trailing the broader market for the first time since the fourth quarter of 2022. Rate-sensitive stocks and cyclicals outperformed as the market looked ahead to the easing cycle, he added.
