This Is What Whales Are Betting On Boeing

According to the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/real-estate/24/11/41710617/the-fed-cut-rates-so-why-are-mortgage-rates-climbing-the-truth-behind-the-housing-markets-latest-cur">Mortgage </a>Bankers Association (MBA), mortgage demand took a sharp dive, with applications plummeting 11% as interest rates hovered above 7%. The MBA's Chief Economist, Mike Fratantoni, remarked that affordability is being squeezed tightly and first-time buyers, particularly, are feeling the heat.&nbsp;

"Homebuyers, particularly first-time buyers who do not have the ability to make larger down payments, have been more willing to accept a higher payment burden," Fratantoni commented. The average 30-year fixed-rate mortgage peaked in May at 7.2%, keeping some potential buyers on the sidelines and leaving those dependent on financing in a pinch.
The squeeze on buyers reflects the sixth week of declining mortgage applications, showing just how much the current rate environment has cooled off what was previously a red-hot market. Joel Kan, an economist with the MBA, noted, "Purchase activity has fallen to its lowest level since mid-August and refinance activity has hit its lowest since May."&nbsp;
Trending: During market downturns, investors are learning that unlike equities, these<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/money/connect-invest-real-estate-notes"> high-yield real estate notes that pay 7.5% &#8211; 9% are protected by resilient assets, buffering against losses.</a>
 He explained that refinancing is particularly rate-sensitive; as a result, refinance applications dropped 19% in just one week, though they remain 48% higher than the same week last year.
"Most people refinancing are looking for immediate relief, but even those with larger loans are opting out now," Kan noted.
"They're susceptible to even slight changes in rates." He pointed out that the average refinance loan size has dropped below $300,000, signaling that borrowers with larger debts may hesitate to lock in rates at this level.&nbsp;
The impact doesn't stop with refinance applicants. Mortgage applications for home purchases also slid, dipping 5% for the week and barely registering a 2% increase from last year.&nbsp;

According to Kan, home-buying activity has seen a boost over recent months as more inventory becomes available and prices ease a bit, but the recent rate hikes seem to be pricing some buyers right back out. "People are simply less willing to leap into a new mortgage with such high rates. The<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/personal-finance/24/11/41728751/even-as-inflation-cools-most-americans-cant-get-ahead-and-continue-living-paycheck-to-paycheck-r"> higher costs</a> are turning what would have been a manageable purchase into a hard sell," he observed.
Experts are mixed on where rates might head in the near term, but there's some cautious optimism for 2024. Analysts at S&amp;P Global Ratings expect mortgage rates to gradually ease and if that pans out, the housing market may find some breathing room.&nbsp;

Goldman Sachs: Cisco Systemsreported its fiscal first-quarter earnings at 91 cents per share, higher than consensus of 87 cents per share, with the beat being driven by better-than-expected gross margins and in-line revenue of $13.8 billion, Ng said in a note. Order growth ex-Splunk accelerated to 9% year-on-year, with 17% growth in Enterprise and 22% in Service Provider &amp; Cloud, he added.
"Webscale, which is a subset within Service Provider &amp; Cloud, was a bright spot with orders growing triple digits," including more than $300 million of AI orders, the analyst wrote. The AI momentum puts Cisco Systems "well on track" to exceed its fiscal 2025 target of $1 billion in AI orders, he further stated.
Piper Sandler: Cisco Systems posted total revenues of $13.84 billion, which represents a 6% year-on-year decline but came in higher than expectations by around 1%, Fish said. "The upside again came via Product, though primarily was due to ~ $20M higher Splunk contribution," he further wrote.
Management raised their annual revenue guidance by $200 million at the midpoint, "given the demand environment, but more likely the upside of recurring Splunk revenue," the analyst stated. This led Cisco Systems to raise its earnings guidance to $3.60-$3.66 per share, he added.
Morgan Stanley: Cisco Systems reported higher-than-expected quarterly results, largely due to Splunk's outperformance, Marshall said. "Upending on networking is improving coming out of inventory digestion," he added.
The company benefited from "meaningful traction" across three AI investments, the first being more than $300 million in AI orders, the analyst stated. Second was double digit growth in networking orders due to improving connectivity ahead of AI and the third was "in terms of data center modernization for enterprises ahead of AI investments," he further wrote.
Price Action: Shares of Cisco Systems had declined by 1.30% to $58.41 at the time of publication on Thursday.

Prime members can now see the total monthly cost or individual use cost for Amazon One Medical Pay-per-visit virtual visits and medications from the Amazon Pharmacy before signing up for care.
"This simple care experience was built to meet the needs of today's customer. Hims &amp; Hers Health shares moved lower on the news. The company&#8217;s strategy involves bringing customers convenient, transparent and affordable access to care. 
In the third quarter, Hims &amp; Hers subscribers jumped 44% year-over-year to 2 million. The company&#8217;s revenue was up 77% year-over-year to $401.6 million, and Hims &amp; Hers raised its full-year outlook to $1.46 billion to $1.465 billion.
&#8220;Our model is rapidly gaining scale, driving accelerating top line growth, improving profitability and strong cash flow. We are seeing this strength across our business,&#8221; CFO Yemi Okupe said in the earnings release.

What To Know: Intuitive Machines reported third-quarter revenue of $58.48 million, beating analyst estimates of $50.89 million, according to<a href="http://pro.benzinga.com"> Benzinga Pro</a>. Total revenue was up 359% on a year-over-year basis.
The company reported a net loss of $80.44 million, versus net income of $14.31 million in the prior year&#8217;s quarter. Backlog grew to $316.2 million in the quarter, the highest in company history. Intuitive Machines ended the quarter with $89.6 million in cash.
&#8220;Intuitive Machines had a very strong&nbsp;third quarter&nbsp;highlighted by key wins, revenue growth, and the largest cash balance in Company history,&#8221; said Steve Altemus, CEO of Intuitive Machines.
&#8220;We made progress across all three pillars by first securing another south pole lunar delivery mission, then winning the Near Space Network Services contract, and finally, continuing to mature both our LTV design in conjunction with our heavy cargo class lander. These strategic revenue streams bring our business thesis clearly into view, allowing us to focus on capturing more operational services, which we believe will provide long-tail revenues with higher margins.&#8221;
Intuitive Machines' moon lander Odysseus made history in February when it touched down on the surface of the moon, making Intuitive Machines the first private company to land on the moon and bringing the U.S. back to the moon for the first time since 1972.
Intuitive Machines said it completed a vehicle propulsion system hot fire for its second lunar mission during the third quarter. The company said it&#8217;s targeting the launch of its second lunar mission in the first quarter.

Outlook: Intuitive Machines narrowed its full-year revenue outlook to a range of $215 million to $235 million. The company also said it expects continued backlog expansion driven by potential upcoming awards including Near Space Network 1.2 / 1.3 Direct to Earth and LTVS Phase 2, as well as task orders for OMES and Near Space Network 2.2.
Management is currently discussing the quarter on a conference call with investors that kicked off at 8:30 a.m. ET.

AC Immune SA (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/ACIU#NASDAQ">ACIU</a>) revealed data from a Phase 2 clinical trial of its wholly owned anti-alpha-synuclein (a-syn) active immunotherapy candidate for <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/24/11/g41967487/ac-immune-reports-positive-interim-results-from-phase-2-trial-of-aci-7104-056-active-immunotherapy" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">early Parkinson&#8217;s disease</a>.
Dr. Andrea Pfeifer, CEO of AC Immune, commented: &#8220;The level of immunogenicity after only 3 months of treatment as well as the continued positive safety profile, reinforces the best-in-class characteristics of our clinically validated anti-a-syn active immunotherapy for the treatment of Parkinson&#8217;s disease. We look forward to sharing further updates in H1 2025 including the decision to expand into Part 2 of the VacSYn study.&#8221;
VacSYn is an adaptive, placebo-controlled, and biomarker-based Phase 2 study in patients with early PD, consisting of two parts.
Part 1 includes initial analyses from over 30 patients randomized to receive ACI-7104.56 or placebo.
To date, no clinically relevant safety issues have been reported other than transient injection site reactions (49%) and headaches (18%).
Interim results show positive antibody responses were effectively induced against the target antigen at week 6 after two immunizations and were strongly boostable.
Treatment with the candidate, ACI-7104.056, induced an increase in anti-a-syn antibodies on average 16-fold higher than the placebo background level after three immunizations.
Based on further interim results, including pharmacodynamic data, to be reported in H1 2025, AC Immune may decide to initiate Part 2 of VacSYn with up to 150 patients.
Patients from Part 2 will also be evaluated for the progression of motor and non-motor symptoms of the disease, as well as digital, imaging, and fluid biomarkers.
In May, Takeda&nbsp;Pharmaceutical Company Limited&nbsp;(NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TAK#NYSE">TAK</a>)&nbsp;and&nbsp;AC Immune announced an exclusive, worldwide option and license agreement for AC Immune's active immunotherapies targeting toxic forms of amyloid beta (Abeta), including ACI-24.060&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/biotech/24/05/38797408/why-is-small-cap-alzheimers-focused-ac-immune-stock-trading-higher-on-monday" rel="noreferrer noopener">for Alzheimer's disease</a>.
