These 2 Under-The-Radar Stocks Traded More Than $1B Each Last Month

Reflecting the expected conditions of a bear market, many of the world&rsquo;s indices saw a decrease in price throughout June.
The SPDR S&amp;P 500 ETF Trust (NYSEARCA: SPY), for example, declined 8.26% in June, a very similar decline to the one seen in April. The SPY&rsquo;s maximum decline since its peak in January is 24%, falling within the standard definition of a bear market.&nbsp;
The Fidelity NASDAQ Composite Index ETF (NASDAQ: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/oneq#NASDAQ">ONEQ</a>) and the SPDR Dow Jones Industrial Average ETF (NYSEARCA: DIA) displayed similar weakness, showing declines of 8.7% and 6.78%, respectively, in June.
Despite the decline in market indices and exchange-traded funds (ETFs), OTC Markets Group Inc.&rsquo;s (OTCQX: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/otcm#OTCQX">OTCM</a>) regulated markets experienced a slight increase in total monthly dollar volume, recording $45.2 billion in June compared to $44.5 billion in May. S&amp;P 500&rsquo;s robust performance in the first 100 days of 2024 suggests a bullish outlook for the remainder of the year, according to Bank of America (NYSE:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/bac-stock-quote/">BAC</a>) analysts. As markets continue to grind higher, Wall Street analysts are actively issuing analyst upgrades, revisiting their research coverage to update ratings and reflect the optimistic market trends. 



According to BofA, when the S&amp;P 500 rises more than 10% within the first 100 days, the index typically continues to perform well, with a 76% probability of further gains and an average return of 7.1%. The bank projects the S&amp;P 500 could reach between 5640 and 5750 by the end of 2024.



&ldquo;When the SPX trades higher over the first 100 days of a Presidential election year, the rest of the year tends to be strong with the index up 93% on an average return of 10.1% (SPX 5800) and a median return of 8.9% (SPX 5730),&rdquo; the analysts <a href="https://www.investing.com/news/stock-market-news/a-strong-first-100-days-suggests-a-strong-rest-of-the-year-for-the-sp-500-3457274" target="_blank">said.</a>



The markets hitting record highs come when hedge funds have started to sell U.S. equities at a rate not seen since early January. That marks a significant change after five consecutive weeks of net buying.&nbsp;



Goldman Sachs&rsquo; (NYSE:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/gs-stock-quote/">GS</a>) analysis indicates this selling trend aligns with recent positive economic growth signs and a firm stance from the Federal Reserve, <a href="https://www.investing.com/news/stock-market-news/hedge-funds-sell-us-stocks-at-fastest-rate-since-january-3457340" target="_blank">suggesting</a> that interest rates may remain elevated for an extended period. The sell-off was broad-based, affecting all 11 U.S. sectors.



Despite the widespread declines, some stocks have shown remarkable resilience. Let&rsquo;s now look at the top three stocks that have soared following significant analyst upgrades. 



<h2>Microchip Technology (MCHP)</h2>

Rakesh noted that Microchip has faced significant challenges, with three consecutive quarters of declining top-line guidance and gross margins dropping from 68% to 60%.&nbsp;



However, the analysts see potential for recovery as inventory levels begin to stabilize, potentially leading to improvements in the second half of 2024 and into 2025. Despite concerns about OEMs shifting from MCU to Arm-based processors, Mizuho remains optimistic.&nbsp;



&ldquo;We believe MCHP could see tailwinds into 2025E with a cyclical recovery as MCUs and Analog supply chains improve,&rdquo; the upgrade report said.&nbsp;



The analyst believes Microchip could benefit from a cyclical recovery in the MCU and analog supply chains, justifying the upgrade to Buy and the increased price target. Analysts also raised their rating on NXP Semiconductors (NASDAQ:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/nxpi-stock-quote/">NXPI</a>).



<h2>DuPont de Nemours (DD)</h2>

The upgrade followed DuPont&rsquo;s announcement that it will split into three publicly traded companies while the current CEO is set to retire.



The bank highlighted DuPont&rsquo;s potential for consistent growth across economic cycles, which could drive multiple expansions &mdash; a challenging feat for diversified chemical companies. The analyst believes the company&rsquo;s new entities will support mid-to-high teen multiples, reflecting stronger valuation metrics.&nbsp;



Although it might take two years to fully execute the planned transactions, Wells Fargo anticipates that volume growth for each business segment will accelerate early in an economic recovery. That acceleration typically results in outperformance for chemical companies, positioning DuPont favorably.&nbsp;



<h2>Micron Technology (MU)</h2>

Morgan Stanley was the biggest and only bear on the Street among large banks before admitting it was wrong on the memory chipmaker.



Despite viewing Micron as fundamentally overvalued based on long-term discounted cash flow metrics, the broker acknowledges the positive impact of high-bandwidth memory (HBM) on market sentiment. That sentiment is driving sustained pricing strength, and analyst Joseph Moore anticipates a potential positive earnings preannouncement this quarter.&nbsp;



While the outlook for Micron remains optimistic, the company has faced a significant challenge with a <a href="https://tokenist.com/micron-technology-stock-gains-in-premarket-after-samsungs-hbm-chips-fail/#:~:text=Micron%20has%20been%20involved%20in%20a%20%24445%20million%20patent%20trial%20verdict" target="_blank">$445 million patent trial verdict</a> in favor of Netlist (OTCMKTS:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/nlst-stock-quote/">NLST</a>). However, Micron continues focusing on its HBM product development and aims to secure a larger share of the growing AI and high-performance computing markets.



Although there are concerns that HBM supply may eventually become excessive, the market is still in the ramp-up phase. Additionally, Morgan Stanley is incrementally bullish on NAND flash memory, citing robust capital spending, which should be a significant growth driver next year.

3 Stocks Riding High on Major Analyst Upgrades Last Week

It turned out that Nvidia (NASDAQ:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/nvda-stock-quote/">NVDA</a>) shareholders needn&rsquo;t have worried. After the new regime of 10-to-1 stock split took place on Monday, NVDA shares ended up over 1% at the end of the day. A shareholder who previously held 10 shares now holds 100 NVDA shares hovering around $121 per share. This favorable outcome post-split raises an intriguing question: What are the other chip stocks to buy after Nvidia split that might similarly benefit from market perceptions and technological advancements?



For comparison, that made NVDA stock cheaper than its main competitor Advanced Micro Devices (NASDAQ:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/amd-stock-quote/">AMD</a>), currently priced at $160 per share. With the new price tag perception of not being seen as &ldquo;too expensive to get in&rdquo;, Nvidia is likely to see further capital inflows despite already having the inkling of overbought-ness at <a href="https://ycharts.com/companies/NVDA/pe_ratio" target="_blank">73.26</a> P/E.



On the broader AI semiconductor front, investors are still in the innings of the cycle. JPMorgan (NYSE:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/jpm-stock-quote/">JPM</a>) PB equity strategist Bruno de la Sota <a href="https://privatebank.jpmorgan.com/nam/en/insights/markets-and-investing/ideas-and-insights/how-to-invest-in-ais-next-phase">noted in April</a> that this is a multi-year opportunity &ldquo;just starting to show up in corporate bottom lines.&rdquo;



But as Nvidia still dominates this focus, what are the chip stocks to buy after Nvidia split?



<h2>Arm Holdings PLC (ARM)</h2>

By forgoing direct chip manufacturing, the company furthers cutting-edge architecture to license CPUs and GPUs to other companies. 



This resulted in Arm&rsquo;s dominant market share among embedded computing and mobile app segments, at 65% and over 90%, respectively. The royalty-based revenue has served Arm well, having increased its market cap to $163 billion. 



Recently, Arm leadership hinted at greater ambitions. Within the Windows PC market, dominated by Nvidia, AMD and Intel (NASDAQ:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/intc-stock-quote/">INTC</a>), Arm aims to capture over 50% of the market share over the next five years. 



Arm CEO Rene Haas noted that is the most likely outcome from Microsoft&rsquo;s (NASDAQ:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/msft-stock-quote/">MSFT</a>) shift towards Arm-based chips as a strategy to tackle Apple (NASDAQ:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/aapl-stock-quote/">AAPL</a>). The latest manifestation of this trend was at the Microsoft Surface Copilot+ <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iHQgf3DNAr8" target="_blank">presentation</a> featuring Qualcomm&rsquo;s (NASDAQ:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/qcom-stock-quote/">QCOM</a>) Snapdragon X Elite and Plus chips, which follow Arm&rsquo;s design.



In other words, as Apple and Microsoft giants battle it out, this benefits ARM shareholders. More vendors, like Dell (NYSE:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/dell-stock-quote/">DELL</a>) and Asus, will further sell Arm-based machines. By the end of 2025, <a href="https://www.reuters.com/technology/arm-expects-100-billion-arm-devices-will-be-ready-ai-by-end-2025-2024-06-03/" target="_blank">Arm sees 100 billion</a> devices ready to power AI apps. In the last month, ARM stock was up 36% to $155.59. That is 74% over the stock&rsquo;s 52-week average of $89.37 per share. 



<h2>Micron Technology (MU)</h2>



<a href="https://investorplace.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/Micron.jpg"><img width="300" height="169" src="https://investorplace.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/Micron-300x169.jpg" alt="The logo for Micron Technology Inc (MU) is displayed on a large white and blue building."></a>At the end of May, Micro Technology (NASDAQ:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/mu-stock-quote/">MU</a>) lost the Texas court battle over the memory module patent, potentially forcing Netlist (OTCMKTS:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/nlst-stock-quote/">NLST</a>) to pay up to $445 million in damages. When Netlist won a similar infringement case against Samsung in 2023, the company was forced to pay $303 million.



While the payment determination process is still ahead, MU stock managed to outperform the wider market at 13.4%, continuing its valuation spree of nearly 100% gains over one year. That&rsquo;s because Micron is a key player in the supply of memory modules, from microSD cards to DRAM, NAND flash and multichip packages for enterprise-grade solutions. 



In the high-bandwidth memory (<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/hbm-stock-quote/">HBM</a>) arena now trending for AI infrastructure, Micron expects to see up to 25% market share by 2025, presently dominated by Samsung and SK Hynix. In addition to advanced HBM3e tech, which began production in February, Micron is actively developing the next-gen HBM4 memory lineup.



Regarding GPUs, customers will likely see Micron&rsquo;s GDDR7 memory, facilitating over 50% energy efficiency improvement. That will go a long way in extending battery life for mobile devices but also power users&rsquo; AI and gaming needs.



Even if Micron has to fully pay Netlist, <a href="https://ipfray.com/more-than-95-of-netlists-445-million-jury-verdict-against-micron-is-based-on-patent-claim-invalidated-by-ptab/" target="_blank">which is unlikely,</a> it will be a minor bump in the road, as the company <a href="https://www.macrotrends.net/stocks/charts/MU/micron-technology/revenue#">reported</a> a 57.7% year-over-year revenue increase ending February 2024. From the present price of $140.75, MU stock is 63% above its 52-week average of $86.13 per share. Analysts put the <a href="https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/MU/analysis/">average MU</a> price target at $135.98 with the upper ceiling at $224.18 per share.



<h2>United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC)</h2>

Additionally, UMC invested in renewable energy solutions, having founded NexPower Technology in 2005, which manufactures the thin-film photovoltaic (PV) found in solar panels. After a slump in net sales during 2023, UMC turned around in February, followed by consecutive year-over-year growth each month up to May. 



In its <a href="https://www.umc.com/upload/media/08_Investors/Financials/Quarterly_Results/Quarterly_2020-2029_English_pdf/2024/Q1_2024/UMC24Q1_report.pdf">Q1 &lsquo;24 earnings</a> report, the company shipped 4.5% more wafers. UMC&rsquo;s specialty business offset the minor drop in utilization rate by supplying silicon interposers for AI servers, RFSOI chips and power management ICs. Considering that UMC is a cyclical company, apparent from its <a href="https://www.macrotrends.net/stocks/charts/UMC/united-microelectronics/net-income">net income</a> figures over the years, the AI demand is pushing it to the start of a positive cycle. 



Ahead of inventory replenishments in PCs and consumer electronics, UMC is finishing up its $5 billion expansion of Fab12i in Singapore for mass production in early 2026 as one of the most advanced foundries geared for 22 and 28-nm chip manufacturing. 



At $8.74 per share, UMC stock is close to its 52-week high of $8.97, having remained relatively stable at an average price of $7.75 for the last 52 weeks. Investors looking into chip stocks to buy after the Nvidia split should take advantage of UMC&rsquo;s relatively high dividend yield of 6.59% at a $0.58 annual payout per share.
