The New York-based company saw its stock open for trading last week at $69 per share after pricing its IPO at $31, indicating strong demand. The stock continued to climb on Friday, closing the day at $107.70 and was up another 17% Monday morning at the time of writing, per <a href="http://pro.benzinga.com">Benzinga Pro</a>.
The bitcoin miners appear to be benefiting from positive sentiment in crypto-related stocks combined with rising crypto prices. Higher bitcoin prices increase the value of the companies&#8217; bitcoin holdings, which they provided updates on last week.
MARA Holdings said it produced 950 bitcoin in May, up 35% on a month-over-month basis, and ended the month with 49,179 in total bitcoin holdings. The company said it benefited from&nbsp;its self-owned and operated mining pool, as well as block reward luck in May. 
CleanSpark mined 694 bitcoin last month, up approximately 10% on a month-over-month basis. The company held a total of 12,502 bitcoin&nbsp;at month&#8217;s end after selling 293.5 bitcoin during the period at an average price of approximately&nbsp;$102,254&nbsp;per&nbsp;bitcoin. 
Riot Platforms said it mined 514 bitcoin in May, up 11% month-over-month. The company held a total of 19,225 bitcoin at the end of the month.
The companies also reported increases in hashrate last month, which measures the computational power used to validate and process transactions on the network. MARA Holdings&#8217; hashrate was&nbsp;58.3 EH/s&nbsp;at the end of May, CleanSpark&#8217;s was at 45.6 EH/s and Riot&#8217;s totaled 35.4 EH/s&nbsp;at the end of the month. 
Bitcoin was only about $3,000 below its all-time high at the time of publication Monday, according to <a href="http://pro.benzinga.com">Benzinga Pro</a>. At the time of publication, MARA was up 2.50% at $16.18, Riot was up 1.68% at $10.02 and CleanSpark was up 2.45% at $10.03

Over 340 current and recently terminated U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) employees have publicly protested the Trump administration's deep cuts to <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/national-institutes-of-health">the agency's research budget</a>.
What Happened: Reuters noted that more than 60 NIH employees signed a letter, accusing NIH leadership — including Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy — of allowing political interference to override scientific priorities.
The stakes are high, they noted, citing how patient safety is at risk and public resources are wasted.
Signatories claim in the letter that the agency has eliminated 2,100 research grants worth $9.5 billion and cut another $2.6 billion in research contracts since Trump took office in January.
The letter, also addressed to NIH Director Dr. Jay Bhattacharya and members of Congress, comes ahead of Bhattacharya's scheduled testimony before the Senate Appropriations Committee on Tuesday.
The letter states that the cuts have halted clinical trials and left patients without oversight for experimental treatments or implanted devices.
The employees told Reuters the terminated programs represented years of work and financial investment. They warned that the cuts were made without proper review, sometimes bypassing peer evaluations in favor of political motivations.

Why It Matters: Bhattacharya said the letter mischaracterized NIH's recent policy directions. 
Citing internal staff reports, Reuters highlighted that the Trump administration has proposed slashing NIH's budget by $18 billion next year. This would reduce it by 40% to $27 billion. Nearly 5,000 NIH employees and contractors have already been laid off under Kennedy's restructuring of U.S. health agencies.
In February, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/biotech/25/02/43618745/us-states-sue-national-institutes-of-health-over-4-billion-annual-cut-in-biomedical-research-grant-budget" rel="noreferrer noopener">a complaint&nbsp;was filed</a> arguing that &#8220;Without relief from NIH&#8217;s action, these institutions&#8217; cutting-edge work to cure and treat human disease will grind to a halt.&#8221;
The lawsuit also mentioned, &#8220;In issuing the Rate Change Notice, the NIH has also acted beyond its statutory authority and has failed to promulgate the change using notice and comment rulemaking.&#8221;
In March, The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) unveiled a sweeping restructuring plan to cut costs, streamline operations <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/government/regulations/25/03/44519638/us-department-of-health-and-human-services-aligns-with-trumps-executive-order-to-cut-10k-jobs-save-18-billion" rel="noreferrer noopener">and refocus priorities</a>.
The&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://www.hhs.gov/about/news/hhs-restructuring-doge.html?tblci=GiCUX7wvU_AgmIIiQduNYr6JQuJQLy6SZJGvpyeZuCzyqiCN1VcoxvTN4f7-y-PqATDviEo" rel="noreferrer noopener">restructuring</a>&nbsp;will reduce the HHS workforce by 10,000 full-time employees, leading to annual savings of $1.8 billion.
Through early retirements and other initiatives, the total number of employees will shrink from 82,000 to 62,000.

NIH Revolts: Scientists Decry Budget Cuts, RFK Jr. Political Interference, Warn Of Long-Term Public Health Damage

MP Materials Corp. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MP#NYSE">MP</a>) shares are moving higher. The U.S. is set to engage in trade talks with China in London on Monday. Rare earth materials are expected to be a <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/trading-ideas/movers/25/06/45841817/us-listed-chinese-stocks-gain-as-us-china-trade-talks-spark-optimism">key topic of discussion</a>.
What To Know: Morgan Stanley analyst Carlos De Alba upgraded MP Materials from Equal-Weight to Overweight and raised the price target from $23 to $34 on Friday.
The analyst said MP Materials is best positioned to benefit from growing geopolitical focus on critical mineral supply chains, according to <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2025/06/07/morgan-stanley-upgrades-mining-stock-as-best-pick-to-play-rare-earths.html">CNBC</a>.
MP Materials operates the only rare earth mine in the U.S. at Mountain Pass, California, while China controls most of the global market for rare earth processing. De Alba noted that trade tensions have pushed mineral supply chains into focus.
In April, China imposed export restrictions on certain rare earth elements in response to tariffs introduced by President Donald Trump. While talks are ongoing, those restrictions remain in place. Notably, the U.S. depends on China for about 70% of <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/trading-ideas/movers/25/06/45841817/us-listed-chinese-stocks-gain-as-us-china-trade-talks-spark-optimism">imports for rare earth</a> elements.
Last week, Trump eased limits under the Defense Production Act, which could allow the U.S. government to offer above-market prices for rare earths. Morgan Stanley said MP is well positioned to benefit from this policy shift.
The company is also building a fully domestic supply chain and plans to begin commercial production of rare earth magnets used in electric vehicles, wind turbines and other advanced technologies. Analysts are optimistic that MP will be able to generate positive free cash flows longer term.

Representative Thomas Massie (R-KY) has introduced a bill calling for the first comprehensive audit of the United States' gold reserves in over 70 years. Titled "The Gold Reserve Transparency Act of 2025," the bill aims to bring clarity to the leading <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/gold">global gold reserve</a>.
"Americans deserve transparency and accountability from the institutions that underpin our currency," Massie said in a <a href="https://massie.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=395725">statement</a> accompanying the <a href="https://www.congress.gov/bill/117th-congress/house-bill/3526">bill's release</a>.
The legislation, supported by Reps. Troy Nehls (R-TX), Addison McDowell (R-NC), and Warren Davidson (R-OH) would mandate that the Comptroller General, through the Government Accountability Office, conduct a full audit, assay, and inventory of all U.S. gold holdings within one year of enactment.
It would also require a complete account of all gold-related transactions dating back 50 years, including sales, loans, leases, swaps, and encumbrances. A recurring audit would happen every five years.
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">World&#8217;s Largest Gold Reserves</h3>
According to the U.S. Treasury, the United States holds the world's largest national gold reserve at roughly 8,133 metric tons, or over 261 million troy ounces. A majority of that gold—more than 147 million ounces—is held at Fort Knox, with the remainder stored in locations including the Denver Mint, West Point, and the New York Fed.
The reserves date back to the 1930s, when the U.S. government collected vast amounts of gold following the Gold Reserve Act and subsequent executive orders issued by President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
Massie discussed the bill in an X <a href="https://x.com/RepThomasMassie/status/1930996622311239890">post</a>, saying that it would "provide full disclosure President (Donald) Trump seeks," referring to Trump's February call to inspect Fort Knox's holdings physically. The push for gold transparency also gained traction earlier this year after Elon Musk proposed a live-streamed audit of U.S. reserves, a suggestion widely dismissed as a publicity stunt.
The renewed debate over U.S. gold reserves is gaining traction due to the growing global interest in the yellow metal. Central banks and investors have been seeking it as a <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/commodities/25/05/45617358/gold-demand-holds-firm-as-dollar-confidence-wavers">hedge against geopolitical instability</a>, Trump's administration policies, and U.S. fiscal uncertainty. In 2024, central banks bought over 1,044 metric tons of gold, marking the third consecutive year of purchases over 1,000 tons.
The United States remains the world&#8217;s largest holder of gold. At a current spot price of $3,320 per ounce, U.S. reserves are valued at approximately $868 billion. Meanwhile, the spot price of the yellow metal has surged by around 26.6% year-to-date, rising from $2,623 at the start of the year and reaching a new all-time high of $3,500 per ounce on April 25.

Messages Get Smarter With Genmoji And Image Playground
Apple is bringing more creative flair to iMessages with Genmoji. Genmoji now allows users to combine emojis or create new ones using text prompts. Emojis and Memoji can also now show different expressions.
Image Playground, Apple&#8217;s generative art tool, now supports new styles like oil painting and lets users craft images in the tone of ChatGPT-style prompts. Developers can also integrate these tools into their apps using a newly released Image Playground API.
Apple also reiterated its privacy-first stance: "You&#8217;re always in control, and nothing is shared with ChatGPT without your permission," the company said.

Real-Time Translations Come To iPhone Calls, FaceTime And Messages
Perhaps one of the most practical upgrades, Apple Intelligence now enables live translation across calls, FaceTime and text messages — all powered by Apple-built models that run entirely on-device.
During phone calls, the system provides real-time spoken translations to both parties, even if the recipient isn't using an iPhone. In Messages, texts are translated as you type and read. FaceTime now offers live translated captions, enhancing accessibility.
Developers can also access these features through a new Call Translation API, while Apple Music adds lyric translation, making international music more accessible than ever.
Visual Intelligence Expands Across Screens And the Real World
Apple is pushing further into computer vision with expanded Visual Intelligence features in iOS 26. Users can now take a screenshot or view any content on their screen and instantly take action.
For example, a screenshot of a social media post about an event will trigger an "Add to Calendar" button that automatically fills in date, time, and location. A photo of a jacket or sneakers will prompt image-based product suggestions and reviews.
