GameStop Corporation (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GME#NYSE">GME</a>) is reportedly considering adding Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) and other cryptocurrencies to its balance sheet, a move that would follow several other public companies <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cryptocurrency/24/11/42196217/will-gamestop-amc-follow-microstrategy-rumble-into-bitcoin">into the sector.</a>



What Happened: Speculation that GameStop has considered buying Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies has risen in recent years. The company changed its rules on its cash balance to give CEO Ryan Cohen control over<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/analyst-ratings/analyst-color/23/12/36142175/meme-king-ryan-cohen-now-able-to-trade-stocks-with-gamestop-funds"> trading the company's cash balance</a> into stocks and cryptocurrencies.



While Cohen has not made a move yet, the company's cash balance has grown. Cohen recently transferred his stake in the company from an LLC to <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/gaming/25/01/43342224/ryan-cohen-moves-gamestop-shares-to-personal-name-sparking-speculation-on-next-steps">his personal name</a>, prompting further speculation that a move by the company could be coming.

 Why It's Important: GameStop previously launched crypto wallets and a non-fungible token trading platform before shutting down the service in 2023 due to "regulatory uncertainty."



Cohen recently <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/trading-ideas/movers/25/02/43605313/gamestop-stock-is-surging-monday-whats-going-on">posted a photo </a>with MicroStrategy Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MSTR#NASDAQ">MSTR</a>) co-founder and chairman Michael Saylor on X recently, prompting further speculation that a crypto move could be coming. MicroStrategy, which is changing its name to Strategy, is the largest corporate holder of Bitcoin.



Sources say Saylor is not involved in GameStop's potential move into cryptocurrency investments. Saylor has previously offered to help companies purchase Bitcoin and recently presented to the Microsoft Board of Directors a shareholder proposal to buy Bitcoin.



Price Action: GameStop stock is up 9.7% to $28.90 in after-hours trading Thursday.



Bitcoin trades at $96,537.04 at the time of writing.



GME Coin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/">GME</a>), which is not affiliated with the company, is up 27% to $0.002403 on Thursday, spiking on the report.

GameStop Stock Jumps On Report It's Considering Bitcoin, Crypto Investments

President Donald Trump announced Thursday a roadmap for enacting reciprocal tariffs on countries that impose <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/econ-s">duties on U.S. goods.</a>



Despite the announcement, investors remained unshaken, as the move had been widely expected following Trump&#8217;s hints the previous week. Additionally, with the plan still in a study phase until April 1, it creates a window for potential negotiations with trading partners.



The S&amp;P 500 – tracked by the SPDR S&amp;P 500 ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SPY#NYSE">SPY</a>) – rallied by 1% by 3:20 p.m. ET, trading at a less than 0.1 percentage points below record highs. 



The Nasdaq 100 – as broadly followed by the Invesco QQQ Trust (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/QQQ#NASDAQ">QQQ</a>) – soared 1.3%. The dollar tumbled 0.8%, recording its worst day since Jan. 20, while gold traded at $2,930 per ounce, heading towards the highest daily close ever. 



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Matching Foreign Tariffs: &#8216;A Beautiful, Simple System&#8217;</h3>



Trump's proposal would mirror tariffs imposed by other nations on U.S. exports.



&#8220;Whatever they charge us, we&#8217;re charging them. So it works out very well. It&#8217;s a beautiful, simple system,&#8221; Trump said. 



&#8220;Reciprocal makes tariffs really fair. There won&#8217;t be any exemptions.&#8221;



Trump specifically mentioned India as an example of a country where high tariffs make it difficult for U.S. companies to compete.



&#8220;I remember when Harley-Davidson couldn&#8217;t sell their motorbikes into India because the tariff was so high,&#8221; Trump said.



Trump indicated that companies could avoid tariffs altogether by manufacturing in the U.S.



&#8220;They can build a factory here, a plant or whatever it might be. That includes medical, cars, chips, semiconductors—everything. If you build here, you have no tariffs whatsoever. And I think that&#8217;s what&#8217;s going to happen. Our country is going to be flooded with jobs.&#8221;



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Impact On Prices, Government Revenue</h3>



When asked whether prices could rise due to new tariffs, Trump indicated that short-term price increases could occur but argued that long-term effects would be positive for American workers.



&#8220;Prices could go up somewhat short term, but prices will also go down. It's going to mean tremendous amounts of jobs,&#8221; he said.



When asked how much revenue the tariffs could generate annually, Trump predicted a &#8220;staggering&#8221; financial boost for the U.S. government.



&#8220;This is going to be the thing that makes our country really prosperous again. And this is going to be what pays down the $36 trillion in debt,&#8221; Trump said.



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Tough Trade Talks Ahead With EU, Canada</h3>



Trump also singled out the European Union, criticizing its 20% value-added taxes an unfair trade barrier.



&#8220;The EU has been very nasty. They haven't treated us properly,&#8221; he said, adding that Brussels imposes additional fees that he said disadvantage U.S. businesses.



Trump said that if Canada were to become the 51st state, Canadians would benefit from lower taxes and improved security.



&#8220;I think Canada is going to be a very serious contender to be our 51st state,&#8221; Trump said.



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Global Trade And Geopolitical Moves</h3>



Beyond trade, Trump stated Thursday that Ukraine should have a seat at the table in any peace negotiations with Russia.



&#8220;I do believe Putin really wants peace,&#8221; he said.



Regarding Russia&#8217;s possible return to the G8, Trump reiterated his stance that excluding Moscow was a mistake.



&#8220;They should be sitting at the [G8] table. I think Putin would love to be back,&#8221; he said.



Trump also warned BRICS nations against attempting to undermine the U.S. dollar.



&#8220;If they want to play games with the dollar, then they&#8217;re going to be hit with a 100% tariff,&#8221; he said.

Trump Launches Plan For 'Reciprocal Tariffs:' S&P 500 Nears Record Highs, Dollar Tumbles

Coinbase Global (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/COIN#NASDAQ">COIN</a>) reported fourth-quarter financial results <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/earnings">after the market close Thursday.</a>



Here are the key highlights.



What Happened: Coinbase reported fourth-quarter revenue of $2.3 billion, up 88% quarter-over-quarter. The revenue figure beat a Street consensus estimate of $1.83 billion, according to data <a href="https://bzresearch.myclickfunnels.com/benzinga-pro-content-webinar-registration/?utm_source=BZprocontent021325&amp;t=be2bearmibe3na1">from Benzinga Pro.</a>



The company saw transaction revenue of $1.6 billion, up 172% quarter-over-quarter in the fourth quarter. Subscription and services revenue was $641 million, up 15% quarter-over-quarter and beating the company's guidance of a range of $505 million to $580 million.



Consumer trading volume was $94 billion in the fourth quarter, up 176% quarter-over-quarter. The company said this growth outpaced the U.S. spot market, which was up 126% quarter-over-quarter.



The company&#8217;s fourth-quarter GAAP earnings per share were $4.68 versus a Street consensus estimate of $1.81. 



Coinbase added several new cryptocurrencies to trade in the fourth quarter, with Pepe Coin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/">PEPE</a>) and dogwifhat (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/">WIF</a>) highlighted in the report.



Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) made up the largest share of trading volume and transaction revenue at 27% and 27%, respectively. These figures were down from 37% and 35%, respectively, in the third quarter.



Ethereum (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/eth/usd">ETH</a>) made up 10% of trading volume in the quarter for Coinbase and 10% of transaction revenue, down from 15% and 13%, respectively, in the third quarter.



XRP Token (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/xrp/usd">XRP</a>) made up 14% of transaction revenue in the fourth quarter.



Coinbase had revenue of $6.6 billion for the full fiscal year, which was up 111% year-over-year. Full-year transaction revenue was $4 billion, up 162% year-over-year.

What's Next: Coinbase said it is seeing strong momentum thanks to regulatory clarity and a new White House administration, along with record high prices for several cryptocurrencies.



"It's the dawn of a new era for crypto. Crypto's voice was heard loud and clear in the U.S. elections," the company said.



The company said Donald Trump&#8216;s administration is moving fast to "fulfill its promise of making the U.S. the crypto capital of the planet."



Coinbase said it will double down on building, something it said it does best.



"Our goals in 2025 are to drive revenue, drive utility, and scale our foundations."



The company is guiding for first-quarter subscription and services revenue in a range of $685 million to $765 million.



Through Feb. 11, the company said it had transaction revenue of $750 million.



COIN Price Action: Coinbase stock is up 3.5% to $308.53 in after-hours trading Thursday versus a 52-week trading range of $146.14 to $349.75. Coinbase shares were up 8.4% to $298.11 during Thursday's trading session.

Coinbase Q4 Earnings Highlights: Trading Platform Welcomes 'Dawn Of A New Era For Crypto'

Robinhood Markets Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/HOOD#NASDAQ">HOOD</a>) analysts on Thursday raised price targets on Robinhood shares following the company&#8217;s fourth-quarter results. Analysts are overwhelmingly impressed with profitability metrics combined with <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/earnings/25/02/43676276/robinhood-q4-earnings-highlights-record-revenue-eps-beat-analyst-estimates-crypto-revenue-up-700">accelerating growth</a>. 



Q4 Results: Robinhood reported a strong fourth quarter, with revenue of $1.01 billion coming in ahead of&nbsp;<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/calendars/earnings" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">estimates</a>&nbsp;of $944.62 million, and earnings of $1.01 per share beating estimates of 42 cents per share, according to <a href="http://pro.benzinga.com">Benzinga Pro</a>.



Total revenue was up 115% year-over-year, driven by strong transaction-based revenue growth across equities, options and cryptocurrency. Robinhood said net deposits hit a record of $16.1 billion in the quarter as accounts grew 10%. 



KeyBanc Maintains Overweight: Keybanc analyst Steve Barger maintained an <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/analyst-stock-ratings">Overweight rating</a> and raised the price target from&nbsp;$57&nbsp;to&nbsp;$75, citing improving profitability and momentum with key product initiatives.



The Keybanc analyst believes Robinhood is poised to continue its leadership in the financial application space and grow average revenue per user on the back of strong engagement, rapid uptake of new products, continued innovation and a maturing culture focused on responsible, profitable growth. 



&#8220;As a well-known and culturally relevant brand, Robinhood is well positioned to make further in-roads within the targeted segment across various financial products,&#8221; Barger said.



JMP Securities Maintains Market Outperform: JMP Securities analyst Devin Ryan maintained a Market Outperform and raised the price target from&nbsp;$60&nbsp;to&nbsp;$77, calling it a &#8220;blowout quarter&#8221; for Robinhood. 



&#8220;Robinhood is currently operating with tremendous momentum, and we see elevated growth persisting across virtually all aspects of its business, not to mention it is entering a number of new markets over the next year that are promising, and we envision incremental areas for innovation still to come beyond those,&#8221; the JPM Securities analyst said.



While Robinhood is seeing an acceleration in revenue, the company also remains focused on profitability, which Ryan expects to help support further margin expansion. The analyst noted that there are several growth drivers on the product roadmap that are not yet being accounted for in Street estimates.



Needham Maintains Buy: Needham analyst John Todaro maintained a Buy rating and raised the price target from&nbsp;$52&nbsp;to&nbsp;$70 after the company posted a &#8220;strong beat and solid outlook.&#8221;



Todaro echoed the sentiment of JMP&#8217;s Ryan, noting that Robinhood was able to maintain expense discipline and reach 60% EBITDA margins while reporting strong growth across all three transaction segments. 



&#8220;Robinhood is positioned to be a major beneficiary of more positive regulation within the crypto space, while emerging as a leader in its equity &amp; options offering via advanced trading product launches,&#8221; Todaro said.



&#8220;We expect HOOD to launch a number of new crypto related products, in particular those that appeal to a retail customer base, in 2025, which should allow the company to take share from centralized and decentralized peers.&#8221;

Goldman Sachs Maintains Buy: Goldman Sachs analyst James Yaro maintained a Buy rating and raised the price target from $54 to $62, calling it a &#8220;well-rounded quarter&#8221; for Robinhood.



Goldman appears to be less optimistic than the aforementioned analysts, albeit not by much. The analyst expects Robinhood to continue rolling out new products that will help the company capture market share and expand globally. 



Given the stronger trends in the fourth quarter, Yaro raised the net revenue estimates for full-year 2025 by 11%. The analyst also bumped full-year adjusted earnings estimates by 15%.



JPMorgan Maintains Neutral: JPMorgan analyst Kenneth Worthington is the least bullish of the bunch. The analyst maintained a Neutral rating and raised the price target from&nbsp;$39&nbsp;to&nbsp;$45, suggesting downside from current levels.



&#8220;Robinhood's platform is clearly maturing and evidencing its profitability, but we remain cautious on unproven business lines and valuation,&#8221; Worthington said. 



Robinhood shares are up 67% year-to-date and the stock has climbed more than 360% over the past year. The JPMorgan analyst acknowledged the significant progress at Robinhood, but remains cautious on new products and the scale of the company versus larger competitors. Worthington is also skeptical on the profitability potential of Robinhood&#8217;s smaller accounts.



&#8220;While we acknowledge the significant growth Robinhood has delivered the past 3-4yr, we remain Neutral given the competitive environment and varied outlook,&#8221; Worthington said. 



JPMorgan&#8217;s $45 price target for December is based on a 32-times earnings multiple and $2 billion in excess cash. 



HOOD Price Action: <a href="http://benzinga.com/quote/hood" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Robinhood shares</a> were up 13% at $63.14 at the time of writing Thursday, according to <a href="http://pro.benzinga.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Benzinga Pro</a>.

5 Robinhood Analysts React To 'Blowout' Q4 Earnings: Can The 'Tremendous Momentum' Continue?

The U.S. Senate voted on Thursday to confirm President Donald Trump's nomination of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to lead the Department of <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/01/43306674/trumps-hhs-pick-robert-kennedy-jr-begins-senate-confirmation-hearings">Health and Human Services.&nbsp;</a>



The Details: The Senate voted 52 to 48 to confirm Kennedy as health secretary, with Sen. Mitch McConnell as the only Republican who voted "no." All Democrats voted against the nomination.

What To Watch: During his Senate <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/health-care/25/01/43321236/rfk-jr-and-big-pharma-stocks-to-watch-as-health-secretary-hopeful-answers-pointed-questions-on-drugs-insurance-trump-exec-orders">hearings in January</a>, Kennedy called out &#8220;rapacious behavior by insurance companies" and suggested he would support efforts to crack down on abusive tactics like denying care and overcharging the government.



Some insurers tied to Medicaid and Medicare are UnitedHealth Group Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/UNH#NYSE">UNH</a>), the largest Medicare Advantage insurer in the U.S., and Elevance Health, Inc. Wall Street climbed on Thursday, even as the Producer Price Index (PPI) sharply exceeded estimates in January, reigniting concerns <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/economics/macro-economic-events/25/02/43692996/inflation-fears-mount-as-producer-prices-soar-to-35-put-fed-interest-rate-cut-on-ice">over persistent inflationary pressures. </a>



Despite the hotter-than-expected PPI reading—up 3.5% year-over-year in January, surpassing the 3.3% forecast—investors found some relief in certain PPI components that influence the Federal Reserve's preferred inflation gauge, which showed signs of <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/economics/macro-economic-events/25/02/43701823/economists-breathe-sigh-of-relief-why-producer-inflation-isnt-as-bad-as-it-seems">cooling compared to December.</a>



Investor risk appetite remained supported by expectations of ceasefire talks in Ukraine following a conversation between former President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin a day earlier. 



By midday trading in New York, all major indices were in positive territory, with technology stocks leading the gains. Among semiconductor stocks, Intel Corp. Intel has now soared over 27% this week, tracking its best weekly performance since 1974. 



The U.S. dollar extended its decline as Treasury yields pulled back sharply, reversing Wednesday&#8217;s surge.



In commodities, gold edged up 0.4% to $2,918 per ounce, oil remained steady at $71 per barrel, and natural gas surged 2.4% to $3.66 per million British thermal units. 



Sentiment in cryptocurrency markets remained subdued, with Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) sliding 2.4% to trade below $96,000.

COIN stock, which is bullish ahead of its earnings release, is trading above its eight-day, 20-day, and 50-day simple moving averages, reinforcing the trend and indicating sustained buying pressure.



Additionally, COIN remains above its 200-day simple moving average of $234.57, a historically significant support level that suggests a bullish long-term outlook.



The Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) indicator at a negative 0.47 suggests bearish momentum, while the Relative Strength Index (RSI) of 54.97 places the stock in neutral territory, indicating neither overbought nor oversold conditions. 



If the stock fails to reclaim key short-term moving averages, further downside pressure could emerge. Investors should watch for a decisive move above resistance levels to confirm a continuation of the broader bullish trend.

Coinbase Stock Soars 108% In A Year – Here's What Charts Say Before Q4 Earnings

U.S. producer prices jumped more than expected in January, raising fresh concerns following a similarly stronger-than-<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/author/piero-cingari">expected consumer inflation report. </a>



Yet, a closer look at the data suggests the Federal Reserve may not have to hit the panic button just yet.



According to Thursday's report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Producer Price Index rose 3.5% year over year, the highest annual increase since February 2023. That's an acceleration from December's 3.3% and higher than the 3.2% forecast by economists. The monthly reading also came in hotter than expected, up 0.4% compared to the projected 0.3%.



Core PPI, which strips out food and energy, climbed 3.6% annually, well above expectations of 3.3%. On a monthly basis, it increased 0.3%, slightly higher than the estimated 0.2%.



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Fed May Still Get The Inflation Outcome It Wants</h2>



While the PPI report was undeniably hot, some key components that feed into the Fed's preferred inflation gauge—the Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) price index—came in softer.



On Wednesday, <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/government/regulations/25/02/43676811/producer-inflation-preview-why-is-fed-chair-powell-closely-watching-thursdays-wholesale-prices">Fed Chair Jerome Powell indicated</a> that after the stronger-than-expected Consumer Price Index report, the PPI reading would offer further clarity on the PCE front. The Fed closely watches the PCE index, and Powell suggested it would be premature to draw conclusions before seeing the full picture.



"Following the CPI &amp; PPI, we now forecast a 0.4% increase in the topline [PCE] and a 2.5% year-over-year increase in the Fed's metric used to target inflation. The core [PCE] should advance 0.2% &amp; 2.5% over that same metric," Joseph Brusuelas, chief economist at RSM, said. 



He added that risks are tilted toward inflation running slightly hotter than expected, but this level of price growth could be the "new normal."



Samuel Tombs, chief U.S. economist at Pantheon Macroeconomics, highlighted that weaker healthcare and insurance prices helped soften the inflationary impact of the PPI. 



"Those PPI numbers were a game-changer for the January core PCE print. We&#8217;re now tracking 0.28% month over month, 2.6% year over year (down from 2.8% in December). All the healthcare and insurance PPI components were weak, and airline fares fell sharply. About as good as the Fed could have hoped for," Tombs said.



Bill Adams, chief economist at Comerica Bank, said that while PPI ran hot in January, "cool increases in healthcare services point to a better core PCE read for the month." 



He added that higher diesel, petroleum, and hotel prices drove the index higher, but the drop in healthcare costs suggests January's PCE inflation "won't be as bad as CPI or PPI."



Key PPI components tied to the Fed's inflation gauge showed signs of easing. Airline fares fell 0.3% after December's 5% jump, while healthcare services, including physician care and hospital costs, declined. Portfolio management fees rose 0.4%, but at a slower pace.



The following components from January's producer price report contribute to the U.S. personal consumption expenditures price index, a key inflation measure monitored by the Federal Reserve.

Gene Goldman, chief investment officer at Cetera Investment Management, said PPI data "could also give us an indication of how much businesses were front-running purchases in advance of tariffs."



Others remain skeptical that inflation is under control. 



 "Inflation is also heating up at the producer price level, as January PPI spiked 0.4%, rising 3.5% year over year. The data the Fed claims to depend on clearly shows that interest rates are too low and must be raised immediately," economist Peter Schiff, said.



The Kobeissi Letter highlighted an unsettling historical parallel in a post on social media X. 



"With the bottom in CPI inflation and now the rise back to +3.0%, the path looks concerningly similar to the 1970s. Since the Fed ‘pivoted,' CPI has risen to a 7-month high and PPI just hit its highest since February 2023."

Economists Breathe Sigh Of Relief: Why Producer Inflation Isn't As Bad As It Seems

Robinhood Markets Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/HOOD#NASDAQ">HOOD</a>) shares are trading higher Thursday after the company reported better-than-expected financial results for the fourth quarter. Multiple analysts also lifted price targets <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/earnings/25/02/43676276/robinhood-q4-earnings-highlights-record-revenue-eps-beat-analyst-estimates-crypto-revenue-up-700">following the print</a>.

Robinhood said net deposits hit a record of $16.1 billion in the fourth quarter. Funded customers increased 8% year-over-year to 25.2 million as investment accounts grew 10%. Assets under custody increased 88% year-over-year to $193 billion. Average revenue per user was up 102% year-over-year to $164. 



Robinhood said it repurchased $160 million of its common stock in the fourth quarter. The company ended the period with $4.3 billion in cash and cash equivalents.



&#8220;We hit the gas on product development in 2024 with a new platform for active traders, Gold Card launch, an expanded UK and EU product suite, and much more,&#8221;&nbsp;said Vlad Tenev, co-founder and CEO of Robinhood.&nbsp;

Robinhood&#8217;s 2025 expense plan includes growth investments in new products, features, international expansion and greater efficiency in its existing business. The company expects combined adjusted operating expenses and stock-based compensation for full year 2025 to be between $2 billion and $2.1 billion.

JACKIS <a href="https://x.com/i_am_jackis/status/1889996671037124720">believes</a> an ETF with staking would be a game-changer, but not necessarily an immediate pump beyond an announcement spike. 



Long term, this could significantly boost price appreciation as Ethereum remains in accumulation mode since 2021.



Statistics: IntoTheBlock data shows Ethereum's large transaction volume and daily active addresses increased by 1% each. Transactions greater than $100,000 widened from 5,613 to 6,416 in a single day. Around 61% of ETH holders are making profit at current levels.



Community News: The Ethereum Foundation <a href="https://x.com/ethereumfndn/status/1889978208986280031">announced</a> that the Treasury has deployed ETH to DeFi apps &#8211; 10,000 ETH into Spark, 10,000 ETH into Aave Prime, 20,800 ETH into Aave Core and 4,200 ETH into Compound. 



This is likely to improve the ecosystem as the community plans to expand deployments and staking.

He added that the final deadline for the same will be somewhere around the end of October.



If approved this will enable investors to earn rewards by staking their ETH, which is currently not possible in the Ethereum ETFs.

Inflation is back in the spotlight as broad-based price pressures hit U.S. producers in January 2025, fueling concerns that businesses will either absorb rising costs or pass them to consumers and dampening hopes for <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/interest-rates">Federal Reserve interest rate cuts. </a>



The Producer Price Index surged 3.5% year over year in January, according to Thursday's release from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.



This marks an acceleration from December's 3.3% and exceeds the 3.2% forecast tracked by TradingEconomics. January's surge also represents the highest annual reading since February 2023 and the fourth consecutive increase in the headline index, highlighting persistent inflationary pressures.



On a monthly basis, PPI climbed 0.4%, decelerating from December's 0.5% and surpassing the expected 0.3%.



The hotter-than-anticipated PPI follows a similarly stronger-than-expected Consumer Price Index report on Wednesday, which showed consumer inflation climbing 3.3% year over year.



Within major PPI categories, energy recorded the highest monthly increase, up 1.7% in January. 



&#8220;Over half of the broad-based January advance can be traced to a 1.7-percent increase in prices for final demand energy,&#8221; the BLS said.



Yet, even when excluding volatile food and energy costs, the core PPI soared 3.6% annually, slightly easing from December's upwardly revised 3.7% but still above the 3.3% estimate. 



On a monthly basis, core PPI surged 0.3%, slightly easing from an upwardly revised 0.4% reading in December and matching the expected 0.3%.



On Wednesday, <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/government/regulations/25/02/43676811/producer-inflation-preview-why-is-fed-chair-powell-closely-watching-thursdays-wholesale-prices">Fed Chair Jerome Powell said </a>that an overheated PPI, combined with the already strong CPI, could push up the Personal Consumption Expenditures price index, the central bank's preferred inflation measure.

Inflation Fears Grow As Producer Prices Rise To 3.5%, Clouding Fed Interest Rate Cut Hopes

Deere &amp; Co (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/DE#NYSE">DE</a>) reported a first-quarter 2025 net sales and revenue decline of 30% year-over-year to $8.51 billion, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/25/02/n43687553/deere-reports-first-quarter-net-income-of-869-million" rel="noreferrer noopener">beating the consensus of $7.70 billion.</a>

Dutch Bros Shares Spike 25% After Hours, Jim Cramer Says His Favorite Coffee Chain Is 'The Real Deal'

The company ended the quarter with 25.2 million funded customers, up 8% year-over-year and 26.2 million investment accounts, up 10% year-over-year.



For the full fiscal year, Robinhood had revenue of $2.95 billion, up 58% year-over-year. The company had full-year earnings per share of $1.56, up from a loss of 61 cents per share in 2023.

What's Next: The company said it is not providing guidance for 2025 total operating expenses. The company's guidance for adjusted operating expenses and SBC is $2.0 billion to $2.1 billion for fiscal 2025.



Robinhood's 2025 expense plan includes growth investments in new products, international expansion and increasing efficiency. The adjusted operating expenses does not include costs related to acquisition of TradePMR or Bitstamp. The company said it expects the acquisition of Bitstamp to close in the first half of 2025.

Warnick said Robinhood is entering 2025 "with strong momentum" and is focused on another year "of profitable growth."
