The standard console will be accompanied by a $500 bundle that includes a digital copy of Mario Kart World, the first installment in the beloved franchise built exclusively for the new hardware.
What To Know: The Switch 2 boasts a 7.9-inch 1080p LCD screen with HDR and supports up to 120 frames per second. The device launches with 256GB of storage, and its new dock allows for 4K gaming when connected to a TV. 
Other key hardware improvements include magnetically attached Joy-Cons, larger thumbsticks and a redesigned Pro Controller featuring a C-button for in-game communication.
The system also introduces GameShare, enabling multiple Switch 2 consoles to connect and play shared games locally or online. Battery life has been extended to an estimated 8 hours, addressing one of the most common complaints from the original Switch.

What Else: Nintendo also announced several high-profile game releases, including The Duskbloods, a FromSoftware title slated for 2026, and Donkey Kong Bonanza, launching July 17. Additional confirmed titles include Tony Hawk&#8217;s Pro Skater 3+4, Borderlands 4, Civilization 7 and Kirby Air Riders, a sequel of the 2003 GameCube racing game.
Moreover, GameCube classics like The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker and Soul Calibur 2 will be available through the Switch Online + Expansion Pack service, though only for Switch 2 owners.
The original Switch, launched in 2017 at $299, became one of the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/25/01/43032811/nintendo-stock-hits-new-52-week-high-following-switch-2-announcement">best-selling consoles of all time</a>, with over 139 million units sold globally. Its unique hybrid design and innovative Joy-Cons revolutionized portable gaming, making it a staple for casual and hardcore gamers alike. The introduction of the OLED model in 2021 further expanded its appeal. 
Whether the Switch 2 can replicate the original's runaway success remains to be seen. Still, Nintendo's strong first-party lineup and continued hardware innovation put it in a competitive position for the next console generation.
Price Action: Nintendo shares gained 1.5% to $17.38 following Wednesday&#8217;s Nintendo Direct.
