Tesla (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSLA#NASDAQ">TSLA</a>) CEO Elon Musk is doubling down on his belief that artificial intelligence and robotics will reshape the global economy—and soon.
&#8220;Accelerating GDP growth is essential,&#8221; Musk <a href="https://x.com/elonmusk/status/1925977691162816639">posted on X</a> on May 23. He claimed that the U.S. government&#8217;s overspending could result in a financial crisis unless there&#8217;s a massive jump in productivity. He did, however, mention that the Department of Government Efficiency &#8220;has and will do great work to postpone the day of bankruptcy of America.&#8221;

The X post came in <a href="https://x.com/BarrettHoffarth/status/1925595695610044438">response</a> to someone wondering whether &#8220;Elon has somewhat moved away from politics in order to accelerate GDP growth with humanoid robots&#8221; after another person <a href="https://x.com/farzyness/status/1925593927232442488">wrote</a> that &#8220;Given the disastrous GOP bill, the only chance the US has is explosive GDP growth.&#8221;
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Musk's Timeline: AI And Robots Impact In 1 To 5 Years</h2>
When asked how soon humanoid robots could start affecting &#8220;the GDP of any country,&#8221; Musk replied, &#8220;4 to 5 years.&#8221; He added that &#8220;robot cars&#8221; using Tesla&#8217;s Full Self-Driving technology, could have a &#8220;noticeable effect&#8221; within one to two years.
In an <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BDREZmpkIz8">interview</a> with Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) in March, <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/tech/25/03/44526637/elon-musk-says-ai-will-be-smarter-in-10-years-than-humans-who-will-have-a-much-higher-standard-of-living">Musk said that within 10 years</a>, &#8220;AI could probably do anything better than the human can cognitively,&#8221; and predicted a future where humanoid robots are as common as personal assistants. &#8220;Ultimately, there will be tens of billions,&#8221; he said.
He also predicted that 90% of all miles driven could be autonomous within a decade. &#8220;Goods and services will become close to free,&#8221; Musk told Cruz. &#8220;It&#8217;s not that people will have a lower standard of living, they&#8217;ll have actually a much higher standard of living.&#8221;

Earlier this month, Musk <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/05/45400104/elon-musk-says-mohammed-bin-salman-and-trump-were-impressed-with-tesla-optimus-as-the-humanoid-robot-danced-to-ymca">showcased Tesla&#8217;s Optimus humanoid robots</a> to Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and President Donald Trump during a demonstration in Riyadh. The robots even danced to &#8220;YMCA.&#8221;
&#8220;I think they were very impressed,&#8221; Musk said at a Saudi economic forum. He also joked that one of the robots performed the &#8220;Trump dance.&#8221;
Musk envisions a world where humanoid robots are everywhere, calling them personal versions of &#8220;Star Wars&#8221; robots C-3PO or R2-D2. He believes robotics could create an economy &#8220;10 times the size of the current global economy&#8221; and result in &#8220;universal high income.&#8221;
Still, challenges remain. During a recent Tesla <a href="https://seekingalpha.com/article/4777030-tesla-inc-tsla-q1-2025-earnings-call-transcript">earnings call</a>, Musk admitted that supply chain issues—including <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/04/44941025/tesla-optimus-robot-hit-by-chinas-rare-earth-magnet-crackdown-elon-musk-says-thousands-may-be-ready-by-year-end-but-no-guarantees-when-you-have-a-complex-manufactured-product">China&#8217;s export restrictions on rare earth magnets</a>—are slowing down Optimus production.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Pushback From Experts</h2>
However, some experts have questioned Musk&#8217;s timelines regarding FSD. AI pioneer Yann LeCun, for instance, accused Musk last year of lying for years about the capabilities of Tesla&#8217;s FSD technology.&nbsp;
In September, he <a href="https://x.com/ylecun/status/1837221941695975884">posted</a> on X, &#8220;Elon: &#8216;I&#8217;ve kept lying to you again and again about Tesla&#8217;s &#8216;Full Self Driving&#8217; capabilities for the last 8 years, but you should believe everything I say about politics and everything else.'&#8221;
LeCun was responding to an <a href="https://x.com/RealDanODowd/status/1836931211232526755">article</a> by Green Hills Software CEO Dan O&#8217;Dowd, who called Musk a &#8220;snake oil salesman&#8221; for failing to deliver promised features like &#8220;Actually Smart Summon.&#8221;
Musk, however, continues to press forward, making it known he believes AI and robotics aren&#8217;t just the future—they&#8217;re the last hope to prevent economic collapse. He also <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/05/45529030/elon-musk-confirms-tesla-robotaxi-launch-is-on-track-for-next-month-these-things-happen-slowly-but-then-all-at-once">recently confirmed</a> that Tesla is on track to rollout fully-autonomous vehicles in Austin, Texas, in June.

Elon Musk, the world&#8217;s wealthiest individual and the CEO of Tesla Inc., SpaceX, and xAI, has stepped down from his official role with President Donald Trump&#8217;s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

"This is a dangerous question," Orman warned <a href="https://www.suzeorman.com/blog/Podcast-Episode-Ask-KT-Suze-Anything-How-Do-I-Choose-a-Financial-Planner">during an episode of her podcast</a> when a listener named Cheryl posed exactly that. "Let's say it wasn't me that you're writing into," she said. "Let's say you just came into $150,000 and you walk into some financial advisor's office… and the person says to you, ‘What can I do for you?' And you say, ‘I have $150,000. How should I invest it?'"
That, Orman says, is how people get taken for a ride.
"If they tell you immediately, ‘Oh great. You should buy this. You should do an annuity, you should do that' — all things that probably will make that advisor a lot of money in commission — you are setting yourself up to really possibly be taken advantage of."

In other words, the problem isn't the question itself — it's how incomplete it is. Orman explained that before anyone gives you investment advice, they should know the full picture of your financial life.
"You need to tell me… how old are you? Do you have any debt? Are you healthy? Do you own a home? Do you have a mortgage on that home? What is the interest rate on that mortgage? Is your job secure? Do you have a will? Do you have a trust? Do you need a new car?"
Without that context, she says, "Never just ask anybody, ‘What should I do with $150,000?'"

Instead, she urges people to think about the basics first. If you have high-interest credit card debt? Pay it off. Still carrying a mortgage into your sixties? That might be the smarter use of your windfall. "Let's possibly pay off the mortgage on that home," she said. "Oh, you have $30,000 of credit card debt? Let's pay off the credit card debt. Oh, <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/personal-finance/25/05/45364901/would-you-buy-a-car-with-your-roth-ira-suze-orman-calls-it-the-worst-financial-advice-ive-ever-heard">you need a new car</a>? Whatever it may be."
Orman's message isn't to scare people out of investing — it's to remind them that good advice is personal, and any one-size-fits-all answer is a red flag. So if you find yourself with a windfall to grow, take a breath before diving into stocks, annuities, or whatever hot thing your buddy at the gym swears by.

Elon Musk Denies Ketamine Allegations: 'If This BS From NYT Were True, It Would Have Been Extremely Obvious'

Mark Cuban isn&#8217;t a doctor, but he may be one of the most outspoken advocates for <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/personal-finance/24/12/42742855/mark-cuban-says-this-is-single-payer-how-his-healthcare-model-could-transform-the-u-s-healthcare-system">fixing America&#8217;s broken healthcare system</a>. In a recent episode of the &#8220;How I Doctor&#8221; <a href="https://www.offcall.com/learn/podcast/mark-cuban-interview-how-shark-tank-star-and-cost-plus-drugs-ceo-would-fix-healthcare">podcast</a> hosted by Dr. Graham Walker, Cuban laid out what he believes is fundamentally wrong with U.S. healthcare—and what we can do about it.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Cuban Says Healthcare Should Be Simple</h2>
&#8220;Healthcare is really a simple business,&#8221; Cuban said. &#8220;You go to the doctor, hopefully the doctor says nothing&#8217;s wrong. If there&#8217;s a complication or some need, the doctor tells you what you need&#8230; There&#8217;s really only two questions: What&#8217;s it going to cost and how are you going to pay for it? That&#8217;s it.&#8221; He calls it a &#8220;two-questioned industry.&#8221;

But instead of staying that simple, the system has become a web of complications. &#8220;Every complication you add is an opportunity for arbitrage,&#8221; he said. In other words, more complexity results in more people taking a slice of the money flowing through the system.
And doctors? They&#8217;re stuck dealing with the mess. &#8220;Let me just tell you upfront, doctors are underpaid,&#8221; he said.&nbsp;
&#8220;I want that motherf&#x2A;&#x2A;&#x2A;er doctor to make $10,000,&#8221; Cuban said about heart surgeons getting paid a fraction of what hospitals bill for transplants. &#8220;So he&#8217;s paying attention or she&#8217;s paying attention and not worried about getting to the next heart transplant or worried about the patient that&#8217;s got a boo-boo.&#8221;

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Insurance Companies Are the Real Problem</h2>
Cuban was brutally honest when it came to insurance companies: &#8220;<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/05/45458113/mark-cuban-blasts-health-insurance-companies-as-the-worst-of-the-worst-says-it-should-be-criminal-to-charge-5k-deductibles-to-people-making-25k">The insurance companies are the worst</a> of the worst of the worst, of the worst of the worst.&#8221;
He explained that insurers design plans with deductibles and out-of-pocket costs that make healthcare unaffordable for people who need it most. Yet doctors are the ones left holding the financial risk. &#8220;Even if they&#8217;re broke as a joke and don&#8217;t have two nickels to rub together, you have to still care for them,&#8221; he said.
That debt becomes the doctor&#8217;s problem, not the insurance company&#8217;s. If all the pricing were transparent, doctors would be able to just take care of their patients, take notes, and put them in the electronic medical record.&nbsp;
He added that there would be nothing else for them to do, &#8220;because that&#8217;s what this whole conversation is about, how can we get doctors to be able to golf on Wednesdays like they used to?&#8221; Cuban referenced a time when doctors could practice medicine without being buried in billing issues.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Med School Should Be Free</h2>
To Cuban, one fix is simple: increase the supply of doctors. He suggested <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/12/42678209/free-medical-school-for-all-mark-cuban-says-its-doable-for-just-2-5-billion-a-year-is-it-an-expense-or-a-strategic-cost-saving-move">making medical school free</a> to attract the best candidates regardless of financial background.&nbsp;
Cuban estimated the total cost of doing this would be around $24 billion over four years, based on roughly 10,000 students annually and $60,000 per student per year. &#8220;So you truly get the best of the best as opposed to the best of the people who can either afford it or are willing to take on the debt.&#8221;
Looking ahead, Cuban said doctors need to embrace AI, not fear it. &#8220;Learn everything you can about AI, period. End of story,&#8221; he said. He believes AI tools will soon be as normal in healthcare as phones and emails. Doctors who learn to integrate them will be better equipped to help more patients, more efficiently.
Cuban wrapped the interview by expressing gratitude. &#8220;Thank you for all the blood, sweat and tears you put in to keep us healthy, to keep us alive,&#8221; he said. &#8220;I know how hard it is. I can&#8217;t imagine the stress it creates.&#8221;

For Mark Cuban, A Healthy Healthcare System Means Doctors Have Time For Golf On Wednesdays Like They Used To. Here's Why

Despite previously warning about the dangers of advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) and robotics, Tesla Inc. CEO Elon Musk has invested in several AI startups following a stark warning from DeepMind's co-founder, Demis Hassabis.
What Happened:&nbsp;In an interview with CNBC in July 2017, Musk had expressed concerns about the existential risks posed by AI to human civilization back in 2017. He had forecasted significant job disruptions, with transportation roles among the first to be fully automated.
Musk, well-versed in advanced AI, called for proactive regulation, warning that waiting for serious incidents, like robot-caused harm, would be too late to act effectively. &#8220;AI is a fundamental existential risk for human civilization,&#8221; cautioned Musk.
However, it is ironic because by 2017, Elon Musk was already an early-stage investor who pumped millions into several AI startups like DeepMind, OpenAI, and Vicarious.
A 2023 New York Times <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2023/12/03/technology/ai-openai-musk-page-altman.html">report</a> reveals that Musk decided to invest in AI firms despite his reservations after DeepMind&#8217;s co-founder Hassabis told him in 2012 that Musk&#8217;s plans to colonize Mars would work only if &#8220;superintelligent machines&#8221; didn&#8217;t follow human beings on their trip to the planet.
According to the publication, &#8220;Mr. Musk was speechless&#8221; and invested in DeepMind soon after alongside Peter Thiel, to &#8216;be closer&#8217; to the advancements of AI.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">A Growing Pay Divide</h2>
Reich&#8217;s post drew on data from a 2024 <a href="https://www.epi.org/publication/ceo-pay-in-2023/">report</a> by the Economic Policy Institute, which shows that while CEO compensation dipped in 2023, the long-term trend is unmistakable: executive pay has exploded over the last four decades.
