Billionaire investor Ray Dalio warned on Wednesday that President Donald Trump's latest round of tariffs could deepen "stagflation" and may never deliver on promises to revive U.S. factory floors.
What Happened: "The tariffs are being put into place as a symptom of things that are changing that will be there anyway," the Bridgewater Associates founder said in a video on X.
Dalio said the White House hopes levies will raise revenue and "develop manufacturing, which the United States needs both for employment reasons and security reasons." But he cast doubt on that outcome. "There is a belief that tariffs will bring manufacturing back to the United States, I am uncertain of that."

The hedge-fund manager argued the world is shifting from decades of free-flowing capital and goods to "a more controlled world" where production is no longer done by the most efficient producer. "That creates less efficiency in the goods and services markets … and in the capital markets," he said, adding the result is "higher inflation and slower growth — more stagflation."

Dalio has been sounding alarms for months, telling his X followers that <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/personal-finance/25/05/45249352/ray-dalio-says-its-too-late-to-escape-tariff-damage-worries-u-s-will-be-bypassed">tariffs are "too late"</a> to fix de-globalization and risk leaving the U.S. "bypassed by the rest of the world." He&#8217;s also pointed out that the ballooning federal debt plus higher import costs will trigger "<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/guidance/25/07/46266299/ray-dalio-forecasts-big-painful-disruptions-as-us-national-debt-set-to-swell-over-next-decade">big, painful disruptions</a>."
Trump argues import taxes will bankroll domestic tax cuts and force trading partners to negotiate. Yet critics say higher prices for inputs like steel already threaten U.S. exporters. Dalio called the policy shift "theoretical" and said whether it truly boosts American factories "is still a question mark."

President Donald Trump imposed<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/macro-economic-events/25/07/46334793/trump-sends-lula-a-letter-imposing-50-tariffs-calls-bolsonaro-trial-a-witch-hunt-brazils-president-hits-back-will-not-accept-any-form-of-tutelage"> 50% tariffs on Brazil</a>, escalating the trade tensions between the two nations. This was followed by a slew of letters posted on his Truth Social account to Japan, South Korea, and other countries, with a deadline of making a deal by Aug. 1.
Trump also urged the Federal Reserve to cut interest rates by 3%, while <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/politics/25/07/46336115/as-trump-calls-for-3-percentage-point-rate-cut-too-late-jerome-powell-to-resign-june-fed-minutes-sh">June&#8217;s Fed minutes</a> were awash with words &#8220;uncertain&#8221; and &#8220;uncertainty,&#8221; over the tariffs.
The 10-year Treasury bond yielded 4.35% and the two-year bond was at 3.85%. The CME Group's FedWatch <a href="https://www.cmegroup.com/markets/interest-rates/cme-fedwatch-tool.html">tool&#8217;s</a> projections show markets pricing a 93.3% likelihood of the Federal Reserve keeping the current interest rates unchanged in its July meeting.

Cues From Last Session:
Information technology, utilities, and communication services stocks led the gains on Wednesday, driving U.S. stocks higher.
Investors largely overlooked fresh trade uncertainty, encouraged by the White House&#8217;s delay of new tariffs to Aug. 1st and renewed hopes for negotiations.
In contrast, energy and consumer staples stocks bucked the broader market trend, ending the session in the red.
Nvidia Corp. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NVDA#NASDAQ">NVDA</a>) once again dominated headlines, reaching a staggering <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/market-summary/25/07/46328569/wall-street-today-tariffs-nvidia-4-trillion">$4 trillion market capitalization</a> and cementing its position as the world&#8217;s most valuable company. It plans to introduce a new AI chip specifically for the Chinese market as early as September.
On the economic data front, U.S. wholesale inventories saw a 0.3% month-over-month decline in May, falling to $905.5 billion, which was consistent with preliminary estimates and followed a 0.1% increase in the prior month.

Insights From Analysts:
The senior global market strategist at Wells Fargo, Scott Wren, highlighted that the resurfaced tariff negotiations after a 90-day pause have again started to impact global stock and bond markets.
He said that &#8220;Some potentially serious trade frictions were just around the corner, ready to rear their ugly heads and impact global stock and bond markets.&#8221;
Wren highlighted that the first 90-day pause of largely reciprocal tariffs with a number of important trading partners was due to expire today, July 9. But as the financial markets woke up and got ready to go on Monday morning, the headlines hit the newswires that the pause was being pushed back to Aug. 1, and letters were going out to various trading partners encouraging them to come to an agreement with the U.S. by this new date.
&#8220;The upcoming expiration of the 90-day tariff pause on Aug. 12 with China are just a big reminder that we are still in the early stages of hammering out what U.S. trade relationships with our largest global trade partners will be,&#8221; he said.
Granted, the magnitude of implementation has been uneven and inconsistent in recent months, Wren said that &#8220;U.S. consumers have yet to see the full effect of tariffs at this point.&#8221;
&#8220;Consumers are in many cases buying goods that were inventoried by sellers prior to the application of tariffs. Once those inventories are depleted and are replaced with goods that are subject to tariffs, we would expect to see goods inflation increase into the end of this year and in the early months of 2026,&#8221; he said.
Wren added that &#8220;Rising inflation is likely to increase market worries as market consensus calls for two rate cuts in 2025.&#8221;
Meanwhile, talking about inflation, Louis Navellier of Navellier &amp; Associates stated that &#8220;I am expecting favorable inflation reports and for retail sales to have picked up a bit from May's slow pace.&#8221;
&#8220;Economic activity appears to be picking up, so both business and consumer sentiment should be rising,&#8221; he added.

Asian markets ended mostly higher on Thursday, except India's S&amp;P BSE Sensex and Japan's Nikkei 225 indices. Meanwhile, South Korea's Kospi, Hong Kong's Hang Seng, Australia's ASX 200, and China&#8217;s CSI 300 indices rose. European markets were higher in early trade.

Ford Motor Company (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/F#NYSE">F</a>) has announced a <a target="_blank" href="https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2025/RCLRPT-25V455-7716.pdf" rel="noreferrer noopener">recall</a> of more than 850,000 vehicles in the U.S. due to a faulty fuel system component that may cause engines to stall while driving. The recall affects 11 models, including the Lincoln Navigator, Ford F-150, Explorer, Mustang, and various Super Duty trucks manufactured between July 2021 and July 2022.
The issue stems from a low-pressure fuel pump in the fuel delivery module, which can fail due to internal contamination and tight component clearances. This failure can lead to a sudden loss of fuel pressure and engine shutdown, especially under low fuel or high-temperature conditions. Drivers might notice signs such as rough idling, reduced power, or a check engine light before a failure occurs.
As of June, Ford had received nearly 1,900 warranty claims and over 80 related field and customer service reports. No accidents or injuries have been reported. The company is developing a fix and will begin mailing notices to vehicle owners in mid-July.

The defective component was supplied by Phinia Inc., based in Chihuahua, Mexico. Ford linked the problem to changes made in the supplier&#8217;s manufacturing process, which increased the risk of fuel pump friction and vapor lock. An investigation into the issue began in 2022.
This latest action adds to Ford&#8217;s growing list of vehicle safety challenges. Just weeks ago, the automaker also initiated a recall of Lincoln Aviator SUVs due to an adhesive flaw, another sign of <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/tech/25/06/46068633/ford-recalls-aviator-suvs-as-adhesive-issue-adds-to-automakers-mounting-recall-woes" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">mounting recall woes</a> at the company.
Last week, Ford Motor <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/tech/25/07/46213625/ford-sales-surge-14-2-in-q2-beating-market-estimates-but-ev-sales-decline-31" rel="noreferrer noopener">reported</a> its second-quarter U.S. sales rose 14.2% to 612,095 vehicles, led by strong F-Series pickup demand. The company sold 222,459 F-Series trucks, up 11.5% year over year, and 156,509 electrified vehicles year to date, a 14.7% increase. EV sales declined 31.4% from a year ago to 16,438 units.

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSM#NYSE">TSM</a>) announced its <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/tsmc" rel="noreferrer noopener">net revenue</a> for June 2025 on Thursday.
The leading contract chipmaker reported consolidated revenue of approximately 263.71 billion New Taiwan dollars (approximately $8.3 billion) for the month. This represents a 17.7% decrease from May 2025 but a 26.9% increase <a target="_blank" href="https://pr.tsmc.com/english/news/3246" rel="noreferrer noopener">compared to June 2024</a>.
For the first half of 2025 (January through June), Taiwan Semiconductor&#8217;s total revenue reached 1.773 trillion New Taiwan dollars (approximately $55.8 billion), marking a 40.0% year-over-year increase.

Taiwan Semiconductor&#8217;s <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/04/44732800/taiwan-semiconductor-reports-255-billion-q1-revenue-surges-42-in-despite-us-tensions" rel="noreferrer noopener">second-quarter 2025 revenue</a> reached 933.79 billion New Taiwan dollars (approximately 31.9 billion), based on the reported first−quarter revenue of 839.25 billion New Taiwan dollars ($25.5 billion). This indicates a strong 38.6% year-over-year growth for the second quarter of 2025, topping the company&#8217;s own guidance of $28.4 billion to $29.2 billion issued in April.
Bloomberg analyst Charles Shum <a target="_blank" href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-07-10/tsmc-revenue-climbs-39-in-latest-sign-of-ai-spending-boom?sref=TBDibEcD" rel="noreferrer noopener">attributed</a> this performance to robust AI-driven demand from chip designers like Nvidia Corp. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NVDA#NASDAQ">NVDA</a>) and increasing outsourcing orders from Intel Corp. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/INTC#NASDAQ">INTC</a>). Shum suggests this strong momentum is offsetting softness in the mobile and consumer segments, helping Taiwan Semiconductor remain on track for its 25% annual U.S. dollar sales-growth target. However, he anticipates operating margins may be closer to the lower end of guidance (around 47%) due to the weakening U.S. dollar.
In a related development, Taiwan Semiconductor is reportedly prioritizing its <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/tech/25/07/46283410/taiwan-semiconductor-shifts-focus-100-billion-usa-expansion" rel="noreferrer noopener">U.S. expansion</a>, accelerating American operations in response to potential chip import tariffs from Washington. This focus has reportedly led to the postponement of a second planned Japanese plant, despite a $20 billion investment plan and $8 billion in pledged support from the Japanese government.
While Chairman C.C. Wei previously cited traffic issues in Kumamoto for early delays, sources suggest the project&#8217;s resumption in Japan is not imminent. In March, Taiwan Semiconductor announced an additional $100 billion investment in U.S. chipmaking, building on the $65 billion announced in April 2024.
Taiwan Semiconductor stock has surged over 17% year-to-date, topping NYSE Composite&#8217;s 8% and PHLX Semiconductor&#8217;s approximately 14%. The stock surged over 53% in the last three months, topping NYSE Composite&#8217;s 12% and PHLX Semiconductor&#8217;s 34%.
Price Action:&nbsp;TSM stock is trading higher by 1.66% to $235.70 premarket at last check Thursday.
