&#8220;Physician and outpatient care together represent 70% of the pressure year to date,&#8221; Noel said. &#8220;In short, most encounters are intensifying in services and costing more.&#8221;



The decision to exit underperforming plans, which affect more than 600,000 members, is centered around &#8220;less managed products such as PPO (Preferred Provider Organization) offerings,&#8221; according to Noel. He added that UnitedHealth has made &#8220;significant adjustments to benefits&#8221; in response to margin compression.



Executive Chairman, Stephen Hemsley, who recently returned to the top role, said the company is undergoing a fundamental reset. He says, &#8220;We have embarked on a real cultural shift in our relationship with regulators and all external stakeholders.&#8221;

Here are the earnings estimates and key items to watch.



Earnings Estimates: Analysts expect Robinhood to report second-quarter revenue of $899 million, up from $682 million in last year's second quarter, according to data <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/pro/register?utm_adType=bzprocontent&amp;utm_campaign=14daytrial&amp;utm_ad=0729">from Benzinga Pro.</a>



The company has beaten analyst estimates for revenue in two straight quarters and seven of the last 10 quarters overall.



Analysts expect Robinhood to report second-quarter earnings per share of 30 cents, up from 21 cents per share in last year's second quarter.

Key Items to Watch: Analysts have been <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/HOOD/analyst-ratings">raising their price targets</a> for Robinhood stock ahead of the quarterly results.



The company has been reporting strong monthly figures in recent reports. In the May <a href="https://investors.robinhood.com/news-releases/news-release-details/robinhood-markets-inc-reports-may-2025-operating-data">update</a>, the company reported that crypto trading volume was $8.6 billion in April and $11.7 billion in May. Compare that to $7.1 billion in May of the previous year and you can see how strong this quarter's crypto revenue may be.



Robinhood's <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/earnings/25/04/45118133/robinhood-q1-earnings-highlights-record-trading-volumes-transaction-based-revenues-up-77-gold-subscribers-up-90">first-quarter </a>cryptocurrency revenue was up 100% year-over-year. With Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) hitting all-time highs in the quarter and Ethereum (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/eth/usd">ETH</a>) gaining momentum, it's quite possible that Robinhood reports a great figure for crypto trading volume and crypto-related revenue.



Also, keep in mind that Robinhood closed its acquisition of Bitstamp on June 2, which means part of those operations will hit the quarterly results for the first time. Bitstamp has over 500,000 funded accounts.



The latest report also showed that Robinhood's funded customers were 25.9 million at the end of May. That would be up from 25.8 million at the end of the first quarter. Total platform assets were up 89% year-over-year in May at $255 billion.



Robinhood stock is already up over 100% year-to-date so expectations are likely high for the quarterly results and guidance. The recent report indicates that all company metrics are seeing growth, including customer accounts, assets and trading volume.



Other key areas investors will be watching include momentum for the company's<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/04/44825414/robinhood-ceo-brushes-off-concerns-prediction-markets-are-gambling-they-have-societal-value-across-all-categories"> prediction markets</a> and its Robinhood Gold memberships and cards.



HOOD Price Action: Robinhood stock closed down 3.23% to $103.32 on Tuesday versus a 52-week trading range of $13.98 to $113.44. Robinhood stock is up more than 162% year-to-date in 2025.

Robinhood Q2 Preview: Will Crypto Surge Lift Results, Shares?

Q3 Earnings: Starbucks reported third-quarter revenue of $9.46 billion, beating <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/SBUX/earnings" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">analyst estimates</a> of $9.29 billion. The coffee giant reported third-quarter adjusted earnings of 50 cents per share, missing analyst estimates of 65 cents per share, according to <a href="http://pro.benzinga.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Benzinga Pro</a>.



Consolidated net revenue was up 4% on a year-over-year basis. Global comparable store sales declined 2%, driven by a 2%&nbsp;decline in comparable transactions, partially offset by a&nbsp;1%&nbsp;increase in average ticket. Comparable store sales fell 2% in North America and were approximately flat internationally. The company said comparable store sales in China were up 2% in the quarter.



Starbucks opened 308 net new stores in&nbsp;the third quarter and ended the quarter with 41,097 total locations. The company said it had approximately $4.17 billion in cash and cash equivalents at quarter&#8217;s end.



&#8220;We&#8217;ve fixed a lot and done the hard work on the hard things to build a strong operating foundation, and based on my experience of turnarounds, we are ahead of schedule,&#8221; said&nbsp;Brian Niccol, chairman and CEO of Starbucks.

Starbucks' board declared a cash dividend of 61 cents per share, payable on Aug. 29 to shareholders of record as of Aug. 15.

Starbucks Q3 Earnings: Revenue Beat, EPS Miss, Turnaround Efforts 'Ahead Of Schedule'

If you're thinking markets look a little tired lately, you aren't alone. The S&amp;P 500 continues to set new highs on a weekly basis, and companies are still reporting strong earnings.

Lincoln National (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/LNC#NYSE">LNC</a>) is a $6 billion market cap firm based outside of Philadelphia that offers a variety of life insurance and retirement services (and also sponsors the stadium of the Super Bowl champion Eagles). The company's stock has basically traded flat over the last five years, but it's up more than 10% already this year and appears to have found a long-term support level after an extended period of sideways trading.

LNC doesn't have the dividend track record that some of the companies listed below have, but it&#8217;s a healthy 5% yield with a dividend payout rate of just 25%. Analysts still rate the stock as a consensus &#8220;Hold&#8221; following an EPS beat and a narrow revenue miss in Q1, but three different firms have upped their price targets in July, including Wells Fargo and JPMorgan Chase. Lincoln National also received an $825 million cash infusion from Bain Capital, which now owns 9.9% of the company.

Despite a market capitalization of just $647 million and a dividend history of only 18 months, UVE offers a strong 2.8% yield with a manageable payout ratio of 28%. It also released an earnings report on July 24, impressing the market by beating revenue expectations by nearly 35%. The $596 million in sales was the highest quarterly figure the company has produced since going public in 2007.

The stock sold off following the earnings beat, but this could be profit-taking following a 20% gain over the last 12 months. UVE shares found support at the 200-day moving average, and the Relative Strength Index (RSI) has triggered an Oversold signal. This could be a good buying opportunity in a company that's exceeding sales expectations and has plenty of room to increase its dividend in the years ahead.

Unlike Lincoln National and Universal Insurance, Old Republic is a Dividend Aristocrat with a 45-year history of annual payout increases, currently yielding 3.2% with a dividend payout ratio of 39.7%. The company also reported Q2 2025 earnings on July 24, beating expectations on both EPS and revenue, including impressive revenue growth of 10% year-over-year (YOY).

ORI shares have ridden a steady upward trajectory since late 2023, bouncing off the blue support line above multiple times over the last two years. The stock has a market capitalization of $11.9 billion and pays a dividend yield of 2.87%, with a payout ratio of 60%. It has now raised payouts for 2024 and 2025.

Jeffries missed EPS and revenue expectations during its Q2 2025 release back in June, but the stock may have finally found its bottom back in April. Once the Trump reciprocal tariffs were canceled, the stock bounced off an RSI Oversold signal and gained more than 22% between April and July. Shares are once again approaching the new support level, and shrewd investors may consider taking a shot at adding to their holdings here.

Hanover reports earnings on July 30, and analysts will be looking to see if the company can build on its previous EPS beat from Q1. Revenue slightly missed expectations, but still grew 3.4% YOY. Analysts at Keefe, Bruyette, and Woods upgraded the stock from Hold to Buy this month. In addition to strong fundamentals and a robust dividend, the stock has been in an uptrend since a Golden Cross breakout in late 2023. Currently, the price appears to be consolidating around the 200-day moving average, and an impressive earnings report could propel the stock into its next leg up.

5 Undervalued Dividend Stocks To Buy As Rally Gets Overextended

Strategy (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MSTR#NASDAQ">MSTR</a>), formerly known as MicroStrategy, has completed a $2.52 billion initial public offering (IPO) of its STRC preferred stock and used the proceeds to purchase 21,021 Bitcoin at an average price of $117,256 per BTC, the company announced July 29.



The STRC stock offering, the largest U.S. IPO of 2025 to date, involved 28,011,111 shares of Variable Rate Series A Perpetual Stretch Preferred Stock, priced at $90 per share. 



The stock is set to begin trading on the Nasdaq Global Select Market under the ticker symbol "STRC" starting July 30.



The Michael Saylor-led company netted approximately $2.474 billion after fees and offering expenses, and immediately deployed the funds into Bitcoin.



With the new purchase, the firm now holds 628,791 BTC, acquired at a total cost of $46.8 billion, averaging $73,227 per Bitcoin across all purchases to date.

The STRC offering marks multiple firsts: it is the first U.S.-listed perpetual preferred security from a Bitcoin treasury company and the first to pay monthly dividends using a board-determined rate policy. 



It also introduces a new short-duration, income-oriented structure aimed at broadening access to yield-focused investors.



Strategy now offers four Nasdaq-listed securities (MSTR, STRK, STRF, STRD), with STRC as its latest addition, reinforcing its capital markets strategy to raise funds for direct Bitcoin acquisition. 



The offering was led by Morgan Stanley, Barclays, Moelis &amp; Company and TD Securities, among others.



The company has continued to position itself as the world's first Bitcoin Treasury Company, using a combination of equity, debt and operational cash flows to build and expand its Bitcoin holdings while offering investors different risk profiles through structured financial instruments.

Strategy Closes $2.52B STRC IPO, Acquires 21,021 Bitcoin At $117K Each

What Happened: Visa reported third-quarter net revenue of $10.17 billion, up 14% year-over-year. The revenue total beat a Street consensus estimate of $9.82 billion according to data <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/pro/register?utm_adType=bzprocontent&amp;utm_campaign=14daytrial&amp;utm_ad=0729">from Benzinga Pro.</a>



The company's revenue growth was helped by year-over-year growth in payments volume, cross-border volume and processed transactions.



Visa reported quarterly adjusted earnings per share of $2.98, beating a Street consensus estimate of $2.83.



Payments volume was up 8% year-over-year in the quarter with the company's processed transactions up 10% year-over-year.



Visa reported cross-border volume up 12% year-over-year.



"Visa delivered another strong quarter, with 14% net revenue growth, 12% GAAP EPS growth and 23% non-GAAP EPS growth," Visa CEO Ryan McInerney said. "Healthy business driver trends continued through the quarter and into the first few weeks of July."

What's Next: McInerney said consumer spending is "resilient" and growth for discretionary and non-discretionary spending continues in the United States.



The CEO stated that the company's forward focus is on innovation and product development in areas such as AI and stablecoins. McInerney believes these items will help "shape the future of commerce" and bring value to shareholders.



V Price Action: Visa stock is down 1.1% to $346.44 in after-hours trading Tuesday versus a 52-week trading range of $254.51 to $375.51.

When President Donald Trump <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/tariffs">threatened to hike tariffs</a> on all U.S. trading partners at the start of the year, a rush of foreign goods flooded into the country as businesses scrambled to stockpile inventory ahead of higher costs.

That front-loading behavior distorted economic data, with the U.S. economy shrinking 0.5% in the first quarter—the worst performance in three years. Trump's aggressive tariff rhetoric initially seemed to backfire, fueling concerns it was doing more harm than good.



In fact, the record $390 billion trade deficit logged in the first quarter of 2025 was largely a byproduct of the very habit tariffs were meant to discourage: over-reliance on foreign goods.



Each of the first three months of the year posted the worst monthly trade gaps on record.



Now, the script has flipped. 



With tariffs taking effect after April 2 Liberation Day, imports are falling quickly—and the U.S. trade deficit is shrinking much faster than most economists projected.



Trump is treating it as a first victory lap—framing his aggressive tariff strategy not merely as leverage, but as a concrete policy success now delivering the first economic gains.

According to Census Bureau data released Tuesday, the U.S. goods trade deficit narrowed by $10.4 billion in June to $86 billion. 



That's far better than Wall Street's forecast of $98.4 billion and marks the smallest trade gap since September 2023.



Imports dropped 4.2% month over month to $264 billion, led by sharp declines in consumer goods, down 12.4% to $58 billion, and industrial supplies, down 5.5% to $48 billion. Capital goods imports held steady near $91 billion.



On the export side, the picture was more stable. Total outbound shipments slipped just 0.6% to $178.2 billion, supported by a 4.7% jump in capital goods exports and a 4% rise in food and beverages.



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">What Comes Next? A Data Storm</h2>



Tuesday's trade data is only the first of several key economic reports this week that could shape investor expectations and Federal Reserve policy.



On Wednesday, the Bureau of Economic Analysis will release the advance second-quarter GDP estimates, with median consensus from Wall Street economists expecting a 2.4% rise. 



"Q2 GDP is likely to rise by 2.3% quarter-over-quarter annualized, compared to -0.5% in Q1," Bank of America economist Pedro Diaz said. "That increase is primarily due to a reversal of the Q1 import surge driven by tariff front-loading."



Bill Adams, chief economist at Comerica Bank, is more optimistic. "June's drop in the trade deficit and the rise in inventories boost the outlook for Q2," he said. "We forecast a 2.9% annualized increase, mostly thanks to the collapse in imports."



The Federal Reserve is expected to hold interest rates steady on Wednesday at 4.25%-4.5%. But two FOMC members—Governors Michelle Bowman and Christopher Waller—may dissent in favor of early rate cuts, adding new tension to Chair Jerome Powell's press conference.



Diaz thinks Powell may remain cautious: "He would prefer to see July's data before guiding markets at Jackson Hole."



Then on Thursday comes June's Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) inflation print—arguably the Fed's most-watched indicator. Economists expect the core PCE to rise to 2.5% year-over-year, up from 2.3%.



The week ends with July's jobs report, where consensus calls for 110,000 new payrolls and a slight uptick in the unemployment rate to 4.2%.

What Experts are Saying: Freedom Capital Markets Chief Global Strategist Jay Woods said Meta stock has had mild reactions after the last four quarterly reports, with three rallies and one sell-off, each move being 5% or less.



Woods <a href="https://jaywoods.substack.com/">said </a>the implied volatility for the current earnings day is a move of +/- 7.4%.



As for what investors are watching in the current earnings report, Woods highlights two key areas.



"How is ad growth adding to its bottom line? What is the future CapEx spend looking like and has their AI spend started to see a return on its investment?" Woods asks.



The market expert said Ad growth and AI spending will be the keys to watch.



Bank of America Securities analyst Justin Post highlighted Meta's aggressive AI spending and investments on grabbing top AI talent from other companies as an item to watch in the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/analyst-stock-ratings/reiteration/25/07/46668016/metas-strong-revenues-may-offset-concerns-over-soaring-ai-investments-analyst">company's quarterly expenses.</a>



The analyst reiterated a Buy rating and $775 price target ahead of the report.



Post said items to watch include the company's investment in Scale AI and the formation of the company's Super Intelligence team.



The analyst expects Meta to report strong guidance with AI-driven improvements helping ad revenue along with increased monetization for Threads, WhatsApp and messaging.



Key Items to Watch: A <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/social-media/25/07/46333856/musk-vs-zuckerberg-two-richest-men-battle-over-daily-social-media-users">report in July</a> highlighted Meta's Threads platform growing to more than 350 million registered users and having 115.1 million daily active users on the mobile app.



The latest mobile daily active user numbers put Threads close to the same total as rival X, although Threads significantly trails X in web traffic.



Threads could be the next platform for Meta to focus on monetization with its growing user base and metrics.



In the first quarter, Meta Platforms saw its family daily active people total up 6% year-over-year to 3.43 billion.



The company reported a 5% year-over-year increase in the number of ad impressions and a 10% year-over-year increase in the average price per ad. Investors and analysts will be closely watching these metrics.



Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg called the first quarter "a strong start to an important year." Zuckerberg said Meta AI had around 1 billion monthly active users at the time.

$19.5 Trillion Earnings Blitz: Wall Street Faces Make-Or-Break 72 Hours

Novo Nordisk A/S (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NVO#NYSE">NVO</a>) suffered its worst trading session on record Tuesday, plunging as much as 25% in European markets after issuing a surprise profit warning tied to its blockbuster obesity drug Wegovy and <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/weight-loss">appointing a new CEO</a>.

The Danish pharmaceutical giant now expects 2025 sales to grow 8%–14%, down from a previous range of 13%–21%, and has cut its operating profit forecast to 10%–16%, from 16%–24%. That marks the second guidance cut of the year.



Shares have now fallen 35% year-to-date and are down a staggering 65% from their June 2023 all-time high, wiping out billions in market cap.



Goldman Sachs analyst James Quigley wrote that the reduced expectations were driven by "no change in the compounded semaglutide headwinds and slower-than-expected commercial progress for both Ozempic and Wegovy, with reimbursement access not progressing as planned."



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Novo Nordisk Crashes 26% in Worst Day On Record</h3>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Key Drivers: Compounding, Competition And Slow Reimbursement</h3>



The company blamed ongoing use of compounded semaglutide drugs in the U.S. for undercutting demand for Wegovy, with the CFO&#8217;s estimates suggesting over 1 million patients are on off-brand versions.



Novo has sued telehealth firms like Hims &amp; Hers Health Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/HIMS#NYSE">HIMS</a>) for marketing what it calls knockoff Wegovy, warning about the risks of illicit or unregulated active ingredients.



Meanwhile, lower-than-expected growth for Ozempic in the U.S. diabetes market and sluggish Wegovy penetration overseas also contributed to the downgrade.



"We expect investors to remain cautious on the outlook for Novo and the obesity market, particularly given the slow resolution of compounding, which has been pushed into at least 2026, and due to concerns about potential further price cuts in order to drive access," Quigley said



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Leadership Shakeup</h3>



Alongside the downgrade, Novo Nordisk appointed Maziar Mike Doustdar as CEO, effective Aug. 7. Currently head of international operations, Doustdar replaces Lars Fruergaard Jorgensen, ousted in May.



Analysts say Doustdar's challenge will be to expand U.S. Wegovy adoption while scaling international markets and managing intensifying competition from Eli Lilly Co.&#8216;s (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/LLY#NYSE">LLY</a>) Zepbound.



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Is the Weight-Loss Drug Trade Topping Out?</h3>



With Novo's crash, a broader question looms: Is the weight-loss trade entering correction territory?

Roughly $19.5 trillion in market value — led by four Magnificent Seven names: Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/META#NASDAQ">META</a>), Apple Inc. By midday in New York, the S&amp;P 500 slipped 0.1%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 0.4%, and the Russell 2000 shed 0.7%. The Nasdaq 100 remained flat.



Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AMD#NASDAQ">AMD</a>) surged past $175, breaching a major technical level and marking highs not seen since July 2014, making it one of the day's top tech performers. 



Shares of AMD have now rallied by 134% since April&#8217;s tariff-driven lows, outperforming NVIDIA Corp. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NVDA#NASDAQ">NVDA</a>)&#8217;s 105% gain during the same period.



The U.S. dollar extended its rally, on pace for a fourth consecutive gain after Monday's sharp move.



In commodities, oil prices stayed hot. WTI crude rose 1.6% to $67.75 per barrel, extending Monday's 2.4% jump and hitting a two-week high. Precious metals traded sideways as dollar strength continued to limit upside momentum.



Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) edged down 1% to $117,000, logging a second straight daily decline.

With an earnings yield of 1.75%, it&#8217;s not a cash cow like a mature tech name, but investors aren't buying Nvidia for its dividends—they're buying the future.

Nvidia Is Now Worth Twice Tesla, AMD, Palantir, And Intel Combined

UnitedHealth Group (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/UNH#NYSE">UNH</a>) reported second-quarter 2025 earnings on Tuesday and <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/trading-ideas/movers/25/07/46672190/unitedhealth-group-shares-flat-ahead-of-earnings-as-market-awaits-guidance" rel="noreferrer noopener">reestablished its 2025 guidance</a>.



The insurance giant reported adjusted earnings of $4.08, down from $6.80 a year ago, missing the consensus of $4.95.



Revenues increased 13% year over year to $111.62 billion, missing the&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/earnings" rel="noreferrer noopener">consensus of $111.69 billion</a>.



"UnitedHealth Group has embarked on a rigorous path back to being a high-performing company&#8230;," said UnitedHealth CEO Stephen Hemsley. The company is strengthening operating disciplines, positioning itself for <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/25/07/b46681310/unitedhealth-group-re-establishes-full-year-outlook-and-reports-second-quarter-2025-results" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">growth in 2026 and beyond</a>, he added.

<li>Q2 revenue was $86.1 billion, a 17% year-over-year boost. </li>

<li>The number of people served with individual and group Medicare Advantage offerings grew by 505,000 through the first half of 2025. Medicare Supplement plans contracted by 30,000, and Stand-Alone Part D plans decreased by 250,000.</li>



<li>Optum Health's revenue of $25.2 billion decreased 7% year-over-year, driven by the legacy customer contract revisions cited in the first quarter of 2025 and effects related to the Medicare Advantage funding cuts.</li>



<li>Earnings from operations were $636 million, compared to $1.9 billion in the year-ago quarter, and operating margins were 2.5% and 7.1%, respectively.</li>

Guidance: UnitedHealth reestablished its fiscal year 2025 guidance, with adjusted earnings of at least&nbsp;$16 per share versus a consensus of&nbsp;$22.33 and sales&nbsp;guidance&nbsp;of&nbsp;$445.5 billion-$448 billion compared to the analyst estimate of $449.5 billion.



In May, UnitedHealth suspended its 2025 performance outlook.



It expected adjusted earnings of $26.00-$26.50 per share versus&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/05/45373368/unitedhealth-stock-plunges-names-new-ceo-suspends-2025-guidance" rel="noreferrer noopener">prior guidance of $29.50-$30.00</a> per share, versus consensus of $29.73.



The full-year 2025 medical cost ratio is now expected to be 89.25% +/—25 basis points, with operating cost ratio expected to be 12.75% +/- 25 basis points.



For Optum Health: 2025 revenues are expected to be between $101.1 billion and $101.6 billion, a 4% decline from 2024, with earnings from operations of $3 billion—$3.1 billion below expectations of around $6.6 billion.

While the audio streaming giant demonstrated robust growth in its user base, a significant miss on earnings per share and revenue, coupled with a conservative outlook for the upcoming quarter, weighed heavily on investor sentiment.



For the second quarter, Spotify posted a loss of 48 cents per share, a considerable deviation from the analyst <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/calendars/earnings" rel="noreferrer noopener">consensus estimate of a $2.11 profit</a>.

This earnings shortfall was compounded by missed revenue projections, with quarterly sales <a href="https://investors.spotify.com/financials/default.aspx#quarterly-results">reaching $4.75 billion</a> (4.19 billion euros), marking a 10% year-over-year increase but falling short of the analyst projection of $4.84 billion.



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Strong User Acquisition, But Monetization Challenges Persist</h2>



Operational highlights for the quarter included impressive user acquisition. Monthly active users (MAUs) saw a net addition of 18 million quarter-over-quarter, reaching a total of 696 million, exceeding the company&#8217;s own guidance by 7 million.



Premium subscribers also demonstrated robust growth, expanding by 12% year-over-year to 276 million, outperforming expectations by 3 million and showing consistent growth across all geographical regions.



However, a slight decline was observed in key monetization metrics, with average revenue per user (ARPU) for Premium subscribers falling 1% year-over-year to 4.57 euros, and ad-supported revenue also experiencing a 1% decrease.



From a profitability standpoint, Spotify showcased improved margins. The company&#8217;s gross margin expanded by 227 basis points year-over-year to 31.5%, driven by enhancements in both its Premium and Ad-Supported segments.



The Premium gross margin reached 33.1%, an increase of 171 basis points from the prior year, primarily attributed to revenue growth outpacing music and audiobook costs, albeit partially offset by Spotify partner program expenses.



The ad-supported gross margin saw a more substantial improvement, rising 495 basis points to 18.3%, buoyed by stronger contributions from podcasts and music.



Operating income surged by 53% year-over-year, reaching 406 million euros, with an operating margin of 9.7%. Spotify also reported a strong financial position, holding 8.4 billion euros in cash and equivalents and generating 700 million euros in free cash flow.



The company&#8217;s disciplined approach to expenses was further evidenced by a slight reduction in its global workforce, which stood at 7,309 full-time employees, down from 7,372 a year ago.



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Conservative Q3 Outlook Weighs on Investor Sentiment</h2>



Despite these operational successes, Spotify&#8217;s third-quarter 2025 revenue outlook fell short of market expectations. The company forecasts revenue of $4.95 billion (4.2 billion euros), below the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/calendars/guidance" rel="noreferrer noopener">analyst consensus of $5.15 billion</a>, while anticipating total MAUs to reach 710 million.



Prior to the announcement of the 2025 second-quarter results, Spotify&#8217;s stock experienced a strong rally throughout 2025, surging 57% year-to-date and gaining 22% over the last three months.



However, the premarket trading on Tuesday saw SPOT stock trade lower by 6.99% at $652.00, reflecting investor reaction to the earnings miss and softer guidance.

This marks the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/05/45252150/novo-nordisk-expects-fda-decision-for-oral-wegovy-by-end-of-2025-reports-mixed-q1-earnings">second time this year</a> the company has revised its guidance downwards, signaling growing headwinds in key markets. Novo Nordisk now projects 2025 sales growth to be in the range of 8-14% at constant exchange rates, a notable reduction from its earlier forecast of 13-21%. 



Similarly, the outlook for operating profit growth has been lowered to 10-16% from the previously anticipated 16-24%. This revised guidance largely stems from a slower-than-expected penetration of its branded GLP-1 treatments, particularly in the United States, a market increasingly impacted by the persistent use of compounded GLP-1 alternatives.

Senior Economist Jeremy Siegel highlighted in his weekly commentary that the U.S. economy is still proving resilient despite global tensions and trade barriers.
