American statistician and writer Nate Silver on Friday described the 2024 U.S. presidential race is described as "a near coin flip," with Donald Trump <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cryptocurrency/24/10/41662414/donald-trump-wishes-bitcoiners-happy-birthday-vows-to-end-kamalas-war-on-crypto-as-world-l">narrowly leading Kamala Harris</a>.
What Happened: As of Oct. 31, Silver's <a href="https://www.natesilver.net/p/nate-silver-2024-president-election-polls-model">forecast</a> gives Trump a slight edge with a 53.4% chance of winning, compared to Harris's 46.2%.
This tight margin highlights the intense polarization and competitive nature of this election, which remains too close to call as polling data continues to evolve in critical swing states.
Silver's analysis of recent polls highlights shifting dynamics, particularly in Pennsylvania, where Trump now holds a 0.8-point lead in the polling average. 
The Pennsylvania shift could force Harris to rethink her path to victory if she cannot reclaim the state. Silver notes that losing Pennsylvania would require Harris to rely on a "two-state parlay," winning both Georgia or North Carolina alongside either Arizona or Nevada, which complicates her road to the White House. In SIlver&#8217;s <a href="https://x.com/NateSilver538/status/1852118017829671351">words</a>, the Vice President &#8220;may need backup plans&#8221; in case she does not win all three &#8220;Blue Wall&#8221; states.
Interestingly, Silver's model suggests Harris still maintains a slight edge in other essential battlegrounds, such as Wisconsin and Michigan. 
However, the high stakes in Pennsylvania illustrate just how crucial this state could be for either candidate. 
Silver also points out that AtlasIntel polls, which have historically shown more favorable results for Trump, gave him a strong performance in the most recent polling, while Echelon Insights reported a concerning five-point deficit for Harris in Pennsylvania.

To further illustrate these odds, Polymarket's state-by-state map gives insight into which regions lean towards each candidate. 
In this map, traditional Republican strongholds remain red, while Democratic-leaning states hold blue, with swing states painted in lighter shades, reflecting their uncertain outcomes. 
These insights show the regional split and reinforce Silver's commentary on the razor-thin margins in states that will likely decide the election outcome.
The close probabilities in both Silver's model and prediction markets like Kalshi and Polymarket signal an election with potential for last-minute shifts. 
Silver&#8217;s model remains dynamic, continuously adjusting based on new polling and data inputs, which means the probabilities for either candidate can change rapidly as the election nears.

Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. The company posted revenue of $6.8 billion, which <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/earnings/24/10/41612007/amd-q3-earnings-revenue-beat-eps-in-line-data-center-up-122-significant-growth-opportunities-ahead-">exceeded analyst expectations</a> of $6.71 billion. Earnings per share aligned with projections at 92 cents.
What To Know: AMD&#8217;s data center segment was the driving force behind the company&#8217;s growth, achieving a 122% increase to $3.5 billion. The company also saw a 29% rise in client segment revenue, totaling $1.9 billion. 
However, gaming revenue experienced a steep decline of 69% to $462 million, and embedded revenue fell 25% to $927 million, though embedded revenue saw an 8% sequential quarterly increase.
CEO Lisa Su attributed AMD's results to high demand for the company's EPYC and Instinct data center products, as well as Ryzen processors in the PC segment. She also projected further growth opportunities across data center, client and embedded business sectors, driven by escalating demand for computing power. 
Looking ahead, AMD forecasts fourth-quarter revenue of $7.5 billion, representing a 22% year-over-year increase at the midpoint. Adjusted gross margins for the fourth-quarter are expected to remain consistent at 54%.

Analyst Reactions: The company's expansion in artificial intelligence (AI) and data center solutions has drawn positive reactions from analysts, who suggest AMD could increasingly challenge its main competitor, NVIDIA, in the AI domain. 
KeyBanc analyst John Vinh <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/analyst-ratings/price-target/24/10/41634850/amd-stock-drops-on-q4-outlook-as-10-analysts-highlight-long-term-ai-growth-opportuni">noted the importance</a> of AMD's MI300 chip, which is projected to generate $5 billion in revenue by 2024. 
Vinh believes that this chip could broaden customer adoption across cloud and AI applications, despite conservative fourth quarter guidance. 
Cantor Fitzgerald analyst C.J. Muse pointed out that AMD's AI progress with the MI300 may eventually generate $12 billion in revenue, supporting potential earnings growth by 2025 or 2026, even though he anticipates a short-term trading range for AMD shares.
Other analysts provided mixed assessments. Oppenheimer&#8217;s Rick Schafer commended AMD's rapid establishment of a competitive AI franchise, projected to surpass $5 billion in annual revenue, though he suggested that investor expectations might be overly ambitious. 
Meanwhile, Piper Sandler's Harsh Kumar highlighted strong GPU execution but acknowledged challenging guidance, noting that while AMD's GPU and server segments are promising, gaming and embedded segments pose risks.

AMD Stock Is Getting Hammered This Week: What's Going On?

MasTec, Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MTZ#NYSE">MTZ</a>) shares are trading higher on Friday after the company provided a solid fourth-quarter outlook and raised its <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/24/10/n41665296/mastec-announces-third-quarter-2024-financial-results-and-increases-guidance-for-the-year" rel="noreferrer noopener">FY24 adjusted EPS&nbsp;guidance</a>.
On Thursday, the company reported&nbsp;revenue of $3.25 billion, missing the consensus of $3.42 billion.
The company&#8217;s 18-month backlog as of September&nbsp;30, stood at $13.9 billion, up&nbsp;$1.4 billion&nbsp;from the&nbsp;third quarter&nbsp;of 2023.
Adjusted EBITDA rose to $305.9 million from $271.1 million in the quarter, with margins expanding to 9.4% from 8.3% a year ago.
Adjusted EPS&nbsp;of $1.63&nbsp;topped <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/earnings" rel="noreferrer noopener">the consensus of $1.23</a>.
Operating cash flow for the nine months came in at $649.9 million and net debt stood at $2.14 billion as of September 30.
Paul DiMarco, MasTec&#8217;s Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, said, &#8220;We again significantly exceeded our cash flow targets, generating&nbsp;$278 million&nbsp;of cash flow from operations in the quarter and driving net debt leverage down to 2.2x. The macrotrends in our end markets remain favorable and we will prioritize capital allocation to take advantage of opportunities for growth.&#8221;
Outlook: MasTec sees fourth-quarter adjusted EPS of $1.29 versus the consensus of $0.94 and sales of $3.325 billion<a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/calendars/guidance" rel="noreferrer noopener"> against the estimate of $3.318 billion</a>.
MasTec raised FY24 adjusted EPS guidance from $3.03 to $3.75 compared to the $3.04 estimate and lowered sales guidance from $12.40 billion to $12.225 billion compared to the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/24/08/n40115879/mastec-announces-second-quarter-2024-financial-results-and-updates-guidance-for-the-year" rel="noreferrer noopener">street view of $12.399 billion</a>.
