This growth highlights cloud services&#8217; critical role in supporting China&#8217;s expanding AI capabilities, despite ongoing U.S. chip export restrictions.
The market is projected to continue its upward trajectory, with total cloud spending in China expected to climb from $40 billion in 2024 to $46 billion in 2025.

Alibaba Group (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BABA#NYSE">BABA</a>) Cloud led the market with a 33% share and 15% revenue growth. Huawei Cloud followed it at 18% share and 18% growth, and Tencent (OTC:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TCEHY#OTC">TCEHY</a>) Cloud at 10% share, which was reportedly limited by GPU supply issues, according to SCMP, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.scmp.com/tech/big-tech/article/3317760/chinas-cloud-services-spending-hits-us116-billion-first-quarter-ai-related-demand" rel="noreferrer noopener">citing</a> Canalys.
Partner-driven cloud revenue made up 25% of the market in the first quarter, with that share expected to grow as ecosystem collaboration turns AI capabilities into business value, according to Canalys.&nbsp;
Alibaba Cloud is experiencing rapid growth, particularly in its <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/tech/25/07/46250853/alibabas-ai-and-cloud-moves-have-sparked-28-stock-rebound" rel="noreferrer noopener">AI-driven products</a>, as its Qwen AI model family gains momentum.
Notably, Alibaba&#8217;s Damo Academy and Zhejiang Cancer Hospital jointly developed &#8220;Grape&#8221; in June, an AI model that detects early-stage gastric cancer from 3D CT scans, outperforming radiologists, as reported in Nature Medicine. This builds on Alibaba&#8217;s 2023 pancreatic cancer breakthrough, further integrating AI into healthcare.
The company is also expanding its global cloud footprint, launching new data centers in Malaysia, South Korea, and the Philippines. By 2025, Alibaba plans to roll out its Qwen models, Model Studio, and a global AI hub in Singapore, aiming to scale its cloud network across China, Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and the Americas over the next three years. 
This expansion is part of Alibaba&#8217;s &#8220;AI+Cloud&#8221; strategy, backed by a significant $53 billion investment plan to enhance cloud and AI infrastructure over the same period.
To deepen its AI expansion, Alibaba recently partnered with smartphone maker HONOR, marking the first direct integration of its AI agents into mobile devices. Unveiled during the HONOR Magic V5 launch on July 2, this collaboration brings Alibaba&#8217;s Qwen3 large language model (LLM) and Qwen-VL vision model to power HONOR&#8217;s YOYO assistant.
This enables advanced features like document analysis, role-play simulations, and real-time visual recognition, as Alizila <a target="_blank" href="https://www.alizila.com/alibaba-and-honor-deepen-ai-partnership-with-launch-of-new-smartphone/" rel="noreferrer noopener">reported</a> on Friday. Furthermore, specialized AI agents from Alibaba&#8217;s Fliggy and Amap now offer voice-enabled trip planning, navigation, and lifestyle recommendations within HONOR&#8217;s ecosystem.
Earlier in June, Alibaba <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/tech/25/07/46250853/alibabas-ai-and-cloud-moves-have-sparked-28-stock-rebound" rel="noreferrer noopener">launched updated</a> Qwen3 AI models to assist Apple (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AAPL#NASDAQ">AAPL</a>) in integrating machine-learning features into iPhones, iPads, and MacBooks in China. This supports Apple&#8217;s efforts to expand its &#8220;Apple Intelligence&#8221; offerings in the country while adhering to China&#8217;s AI regulations.
Preliminary Counterpoint Research data indicates that <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/tech/25/07/46246152/iphone-sales-bounce-back-in-china-but-huawei-and-xiaomi-intensify-pressure" rel="noreferrer noopener">China&#8217;s smartphone market</a> is poised for a rebound in the second quarter of 2025, with Huawei and Apple leading in year-over-year sales growth.
Huawei is expected to post the strongest growth among major brands, potentially claiming the top spot as loyal users upgrade to new models. Apple saw a sales boost in May, driven by iPhone 16 series discounts, especially on the Pro and Pro Max models.
Analysts attribute this second-quarter growth partly to government smartphone subsidies but caution about potential risks if these subsidies are reduced later in the year.
Alibaba stock has surged 26% year-to-date, fueled by AI-driven cloud growth, e-commerce strength, and the phasing out of non-core assets.
Price Action: BABA shares are trading higher by 0.29% to $106.96 premarket at last check Friday.

Alibaba, Huawei Dominate China's Growing Cloud Market

Two Chinese artificial intelligence chip startups, Moore Threads and MetaX, are planning to raise a combined 12 billion yuan ($1.65 billion) through initial public offerings (IPOs). 
What Happened: The two companies are betting on the U.S. export restrictions to boost the demand for their products in China, Reuters reported. 
Moore Threads, based in Beijing, aims to raise 8 billion yuan, while MetaX, based in Shanghai, is looking to raise 3.9 billion yuan. Both companies are planning to list on the STAR Market, the tech-focused board of the Shanghai Stock Exchange
These fundraising plans highlight the increasing efforts of Chinese chipmakers to capitalize on Beijing&#8217;s drive to develop domestic champions in graphics processing units (GPUs), which are crucial for AI development.

The U.S. has been tightening export restrictions on China, with the latest rules implemented in April banning the shipment of Nvidia&#8217;s (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NVDA#NASDAQ">NVDA</a>) H20 chips, one of its most popular chips, to China. These restrictions have led to a sense of urgency in Beijing to develop domestic chip champions.
Both Moore Threads and MetaX have cited U.S. sanctions as a major risk to their development, but have also emphasized that the restrictions could create significant market opportunities. The two companies design GPUs to compete with Nvidia products and have reported significant losses over the last three years, largely attributed to heavy research and development spending.
Why It Matters: The move by Moore Threads and MetaX to go public amid U.S. export sanctions is part of a larger trend of Chinese companies seeking to <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/equities/25/03/44350873/nvidia-faces-new-ai-challenge-as-chinese-start-up-unveils-framework-to-cut-reliance-on-its-gpus">reduce their reliance</a> on foreign chipmakers. After sitting cozy for years in a U.S.-centric equity bubble, investors are finally being served a wake-up call. With U.S. valuations at elevated levels and global equities outperforming the U.S. in 2025, the long-standing &#8220;home bias&#8221; in American portfolios is starting to appear more like a risk factor than a security blanket. 
In this scenario, T. Rowe Price debuted two new <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/etfs">actively managed ETFs</a>: the T. Rowe Price Global Equity ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TGLB#NYSE">TGLB</a>) and the T. Rowe Price Equity Research ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TIER#NYSE">TIER</a>). Transparent and competitively priced, the funds are designed for investors who may be willing to step, or leap, beyond the borders of the S&amp;P 500.
Tim Coyne, T. Rowe Price&#8217;s global head of ETFs, stated that TIER and TGLB provide enhanced access to global investing opportunities within the ETF wrapper, offering investors the ability to diversify their portfolios while benefiting from the advantages of active management.

The TGLB fund has a concentrated strategy, featuring a high-conviction blend of 45–60 developed and U.S. stocks. At its launch, the fund still relies quite heavily on familiar American megacaps, such as Microsoft (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MSFT#NASDAQ">MSFT</a>) (5%), Amazon (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AMZN#NASDAQ">AMZN</a>) (4.5%), and Meta (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/META#NASDAQ">META</a>) (4.3%), but it will adapt to changing global opportunities.
Helmed by veteran manager Peter Bates, who leads T. Rowe's Global Select Equity Strategy, the fund aims to surpass benchmarks, focusing on high-quality growth stories regardless of their trading location.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">TIER: No America, More Diversity</h2>
If TGLB gently nudges investors abroad, TIER goes all in, cutting U.S. equities entirely and instead spreading capital across more than 350 stocks from both developed and emerging markets.
Initial top holdings were iShares MSCI India ETF (BATS:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/INDA#BATS">INDA</a>), Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSM#NYSE">TSM</a>) and Tencent Holdings (OTCPK: TCEHY), a message that the fund is not merely shunning the U.S., but actively seeking exposure to the world&#8217;s new growth drivers.
The fund is co-managed by six portfolio managers, each with regional expertise and access to the firm&#8217;s team of about 40 global research analysts. TIER is structured to track the MSCI ACWI ex USA Index geographically and by sector, with the flexibility of active choice-making.

With these two funds, T. Rowe Price isn&#8217;t racing after fads; it&#8217;s filling a more strategic void in numerous portfolios. And though INDA or TSMC don&#8217;t exactly read like revolutionary portfolio selections, the actual change is psychological: providing retail investors with the tools to venture beyond their comfort zone.

Fans of the hit Netflix Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NFLX#NASDAQ">NFLX</a>) series "Squid Game" could have more reasons to celebrate this week, as a<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/entertainment/25/04/44877995/netflix-crushes-q1-says-its-working-hard-to-improve-and-expand-its-offering" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> third and final season</a> will be launched on the streaming platform, along with several games based on the hit series.
Netflix Bets on Mobile Game: Over the years, Netflix has been more aggressive in launching mobile games, especially ones <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/entertainment/24/06/39213738/netflix-reality-show-games-and-chill-streaming-giant-sees-success-from-interactive-games-ba">based on series </a>and movies on the company's streaming platform.
"Squid Game: Unleashed," which launched last year for the second season of the hit Netflix show, is getting updates for the third season and will also have more ways to play.
The <a href="https://www.squidgameunleashed.com/">game </a>will be playable on Google's Chromebook and large-screen Android devices, marking a first for a Netflix game, as reported by <a href="https://variety.com/2025/gaming/news/squid-game-unleashed-chromecast-gaming-news-roundup-1236438283/">Variety</a>.
"Squid Game: Unleashed" is a 32-player party royale mobile game featuring characters, challenges, and more from the hit series.
"You'll be able to experience immersive gameplay on a bigger screen, with keyboard and mouse support, updated control layouts and graphics that take full advantage of your device's display," a Google description reads.
According to the report, the game will receive updates tied to the third season of the game after its release, along with being available on more devices.
"Squid Game" season three will be released on Netflix on June 27. It will follow the second season, which premiered in December 2024 and <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/24/12/42751367/netflix-posts-record-debut-with-squid-game-season-2-heres-how-many-people-watched-show">broke Netflix records </a>with 68 million views in its first week of release.

Fortnite Piggybacks on Squid Game Mania: Hit battle royale game &#8220;Fortnite&#8221; from Epic Games, which is partially owned by Sony Group Corp (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SONY#NYSE">SONY</a>), the Walt Disney Company (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/DIS#NYSE">DIS</a>) and Tencent Holdings (OTC:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TCEHY#OTC">TCEHY</a>), is also diving into "Squid Game" mania this week.
"Fortnite" is <a href="https://www.fortnite.com/news/fight-for-survival-in-reloads-squid-grounds-map?lang=en-US">releasing </a>a version of the game that, in its Reload mode, will feature key locations from the series, like the labyrinth and playground, and interactive games like "Red Light, Green Light."
The hit battle royale game will also feature bundles of in-game purchasable items, including guards&#8217; and characters&#8217; skins from the series.
"Fortnite's" partnership with "Squid Game" will be for a limited time and also include several tournament challenges where contestants can earn in-game items.

Netflix Is Turning 'Squid Game' Into Something Bigger As Fortnite Tries To Keep Up

AllianceBernstein is making a deeper foray into the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/etfs">ETF </a>business with the introduction of its newest product, the AB Emerging Markets Opportunities ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/EMOP#NYSE">EMOP</a>), which seeks to exploit the long-term growth potential of emerging economies.

AllianceBernstein's EMOP ETF Targets Growth In Emerging Markets

Ryde Group Ltd. (AMEX:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/RYDE#AMEX">RYDE</a>), a Singapore-based company that operates as a ride-hailing and carpooling platform, is enhancing its platform in Southeast Asia by <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/25/06/ac46020914/tencent-cloud-empowers-ryde-to-elevate-in-app-communication-in-southeast-asia" rel="noreferrer noopener">teaming up with</a> Tencent Cloud, the cloud division of China&#8217;s tech powerhouse Tencent Holding Ltd. This collaboration aims to overhaul in-app communications with real-time, cloud-native solutions tailored for mobile-first users.
The partnership leverages Tencent&#8217;s Real-Time Communication, or TRTCTRTC technology and WeChat Mini Program integration to eliminate the inefficiencies of traditional telecom-based systems that rely on third-party number masking.

Ryde&#8217;s platform will now utilize Tencent Cloud&#8217;s TRTC solution to support voice communication between riders and drivers directly within the app.
The company said in a press release that this move is set to reduce cost, improve scalability, and protect user data privacy. With its ultra-low latency performance and carrier-grade stability, TRTC is already behind platforms like PUBG, QQ, and Weixin.
The expanded features also include advanced analytics, AI-driven fleet intelligence, and dynamic dispatch systems, all backed by Tencent Cloud&#8217;s infrastructure.
Ryde plans to capitalize on these tools to grow beyond ride-hailing into deliveries, digital payments, and sustainability-focused mobility services.
Kenneth Siow, Regional Director at Tencent Cloud, said the tie-up reflects the company&#8217;s intent to build a resilient cloud backbone for next-gen digital services.
Nitin Dolli, CTO of Ryde Group, called the partnership a &#8220;transformative step&#8221; toward becoming a super-app for Southeast Asia.

Neil Hosie of UBS said Beijing&#8217;s economic policy measures in September and the emergence of artificial intelligence start-up DeepSeek&#8217;s affordable models sparked global investor interest in China equities, slowly translating into more significant fund flows.

Herald van der Linde, head of HSBC Asia-Pacific equity research, told SCMP that close to 50 trillion yuan, deemed excess savings over the COVID-19 pandemic years, will find their way back into local and offshore equity markets.
HSBC said Chinese investors channeled $80 billion in net inflows into Hong Kong stocks through Stock Connect&#8217;s southbound channel in 2025. At the current rate, they could funnel more excess savings to drive purchases to $180 billion by the end of the year.
