U.S. stock futures rose on Thursday ahead of the long weekend, with Good Friday falling on April 18 and Easter Sunday on April 20. Futures of major benchmark indices were higher in premarket.



<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/economics/macro-economic-events/25/04/44848474/fed-chair-powell-says-tariffs-lead-to-temporary-rise-in-inflation">Federal Reserve</a> Chairman Jerome Powell dismissed the possibility of a &#8220;Fed put&#8221; in the near term while speaking in Chicago on Wednesday.



&#8220;We may find ourselves in the challenging scenario in which our dual-mandate goals are in tension. If that were to occur, we would consider how far the economy is from each goal, and the potentially different time horizons over which those respective gaps would be anticipated to close,&#8221; said Powell.



U.S. export restrictions on Nvidia Corp.&#8216;s (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NVDA#NASDAQ">NVDA</a>) <a href="https://benzinga.com/25/04/44844084/nvidias-h20-chip-ban-could-lead-to-manageable-sales-drop-bank-of-america-says">H20 GPUs</a> pulled the stock market down on Wednesday.



The 10-year Treasury bond yielded 4.32% and the two-year bond was at 3.82%. The CME Group's FedWatch <a href="https://www.cmegroup.com/markets/interest-rates/cme-fedwatch-tool.html">tool</a>&#8216;s projections show markets pricing an 86.4% likelihood of the Federal Reserve keeping the current interest rates unchanged in its May meeting.

The SPDR S&amp;P 500 ETF Trust (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SPY#NYSE">SPY</a>) and Invesco QQQ Trust ETF (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/QQQ#NASDAQ">QQQ</a>), which track the S&amp;P 500 index and Nasdaq 100 index, respectively, rose in premarket on Thursday. The SPY was up 1.03% to $531.05, while the QQQ advanced 1.04% to $448.78, according to <a href="https://pro.benzinga.com/dashboard">Benzinga Pro</a> data.



Cues From Last Session:



U.S. stocks closed sharply lower on Wednesday, driven by a significant sell-off in the semiconductor sector and broader tech weakness.



The iShares Semiconductor ETF (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SOXX#NASDAQ">SOXX</a>) experienced a steep decline, with Nvidia Corp. and Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AMD#NASDAQ">AMD</a>) both falling approximately 7% following new export restrictions on Nvidia chips to China.



This news heavily impacted the information technology sector, which, along with consumer discretionary and communication services, recorded the largest losses. In contrast, energy stocks defied the overall downward trend, closing higher.



Among individual companies, Travelers Companies Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TRV#NYSE">TRV</a>) reported better-than-expected first-quarter results, and Abbott Laboratories (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/ABT#NYSE">ABT</a>) posted upbeat first-quarter adjusted EPS.



On the economic front, U.S. industrial production fell by 0.3% in March, slightly more than anticipated. However, U.S. retail sales surged 1.4% month-over-month in March, exceeding both the previous month&#8217;s gain and market expectations.

Insights From Analysts:



According to Scott Wren, the senior global market strategist at Wells Fargo, &#8220;current equity levels offer an attractive entry opportunity even with the bounce higher off the recent lows.&#8221;



Wren further emphasized the importance of having a &#8220;plan of action or at least be happy with where you currently stand,&#8221; regardless of individual perspectives on the implemented tariffs.



&#8220;Over the course of the last couple of weeks, we have seen the administration go from an aggressive reciprocal tariff strategy that involved meaningful universal tariffs on virtually all of our trading partners to a pause that suspends most reciprocal tariffs but leaves a 145% levy on imports from China,&#8221; Wren notes.



Despite the tariff uncertainty, Wren&#8217;s firm maintains a view that the U.S. economy was already heading for a slowdown in the first half of the year, even before the current trade strategies were implemented. &#8220;From our perspective, even before the current tariff strategies were deployed, our analysis suggested the economy was going to hit a bump in the road and slow in the first half of this year. That line of thought is still intact,&#8221; Wren states.



Wren also suggests a strategic shift in fixed income, advising investors to &#8220;move money from bonds, specifically the intermediate portion of the yield curve, into mid-cap U.S. equities in an effort to take advantage of the fall in stocks and the rally in bond prices (yields fell).&#8221;



Meanwhile, the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/government/regulations/25/04/44858165/policy-push-vs-market-pull-dollar-under-pressure-as-reserve-currency-may-be-called-into-question-amid-tariff-turmoil">U.S. dollar is facing pressure</a>, with its &#8220;reserve currency&#8221; status. A recent study titled &#8216;Dollar Upheaval: This Time is Different&#8217; noted a 3.6% depreciation between April 4th and 14th, an unusual move as the dollar typically gains during global volatility.



This suggests a break from traditional market behavior, raising concerns that U.S. Treasuries lose their safe-haven appeal.



"If U.S. Treasuries are no longer viewed as the world's preferred safe asset, then the status of the dollar as the world's reserve currency may be called into question,&#8221; stated the note.



Investors are now <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/treasuries/25/04/44857989/gold-nears-3400-mark-experts-point-to-likely-correction-amid-bull-market-rates-will-drop-like-rock">flocking to Gold</a>, which has been hitting fresh highs as it trades above $3,300 per ounce. According to data shared by Charlie Bilello of Creative Planning, the inflation-adjusted gold prices were back at an all-time high, after 45 years, surpassing the prior peak from 1980.

Economist Mohamed El-Erian attributed the increasing price of gold to a gradual shift away from the U.S. dollar by some foreign central banks and other entities seeking diversification.

Asian markets advanced on Wednesday, except China&#8217;s CSI 300 index. India's S&amp;P BSE Sensex, Hong Kong's Hang Seng, Japan's Nikkei 225, Australia's ASX 200, and South Korea's Kospi index ended higher. European markets were lower in early trade.

US Stocks Likely To Open Higher Ahead Of Festive Weekend: 'Current Equity Levels Offer An Attractive Entry Opportunity'

The CNN Money Fear and Greed index showed a further increase in the overall fear level, while the index remained in the &#8220;Extreme Fear&#8221; zone on Wednesday.



U.S. stocks settled lower on Wednesday, with the Dow Jones index falling around 700 points during the session after Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell linked rising tariffs to higher inflation and slower growth, while making it clear the central bank has no intention of cushioning market losses.



Semiconductors were particularly hit hard following fresh export restrictions on Nvidia Corp. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NVDA#NASDAQ">NVDA</a>) chips to China. The iShares Semiconductor ETF (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SOXX#NASDAQ">SOXX</a>) fell sharply on Wednesday, with Nvidia and Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AMD#NASDAQ">AMD</a>) both down around 7%.



Travelers Companies Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TRV#NYSE">TRV</a>) posted better-than-expected first-quarter results on Wednesday. On the economic data front, U.S. industrial production declined by 0.3% in March compared to market estimates of a 0.2% fall. U.S. retail sales rose 1.4% month-over-month in March versus a 0.2% gain in the previous month and better than estimates of 1.3%.



Most sectors on the S&amp;P 500 closed on a negative note, with consumer discretionary, information technology, and communication services stocks recording the biggest losses on Wednesday. However, energy stocks bucked the overall market trend, closing the session higher.



The Dow Jones closed lower by around 700 points to 39,669.39 on Wednesday. The S&amp;P 500 fell 2.24% to 5,275.70, while the Nasdaq Composite dipped 3.07% to 16,307.16 during Wednesday's session.

At a current reading of 14.4, the index remained in the &#8220;Extreme Fear&#8221; zone on Wednesday, versus a prior reading of 18.2.



The Fear &amp; Greed Index is a measure of the current market sentiment. It is based&nbsp;on the premise that higher fear exerts pressure on stock prices, while higher greed has the opposite effect. Nasdaq Dips 3% Amid Plunge In Nvidia, AMD: Greed Index Remains In 'Extreme Fear' Zone

On Thursday,&nbsp;Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co's (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSM#NYSE">TSM</a>) first-quarter results beat forecasts, fueled by <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/tsmc" rel="noreferrer noopener">demand for advanced</a> processor node technologies for artificial intelligence applications.



The contract chipmaker, which supplies chips for&nbsp;Nvidia Corp's (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NVDA#NASDAQ">NVDA</a>)&nbsp;graphics processing unit&nbsp;(GPU)&nbsp;and&nbsp;Apple, Inc's (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AAPL#NASDAQ">AAPL</a>)&nbsp;smartphones, guided for strong second-quarter revenue.



Taiwan Semiconductor reported first-quarter net sales of $25.53 billion (839.25 billion New Taiwanese Dollars), up 41.6% year-over-year, topping the analyst consensus estimate of $23.92 billion. Net sales declined <a target="_blank" href="https://pr.tsmc.com/english/news/3222" rel="noreferrer noopener">3.4% quarter-over-quarter</a>.

In U.S. dollar terms, revenue growth was 35.3% year over year and down by 5.1% quarter over quarter.&nbsp;The top-line performance&nbsp;aligned with the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/earnings/25/01/43022654/taiwan-semiconductor-q4-earnings-3nm-and-5nm-nodes-lead-topline-growth-expands-margins-issues-strong-q1-outlook" rel="noreferrer noopener">company's guidance of</a> $25.0 billion to $25.8 billion.



The company said 3-nm accounted for 22% of the total revenue, 5-nm accounted for 36%, and 7-nm technologies accounted for 15%. 7-nm and more advanced technologies comprised 73% of the total wafer revenue.



Margin Profile: Taiwan Semiconductor's AI technology moat helped it expand its quarterly gross margins by 572 bps to 58.8%. Taiwan Semiconductor's operating margin expanded by 649 bps to 48.5%.



Outlook: Taiwan Semiconductor <a target="_blank" href="https://pr.tsmc.com/system/files/newspdf/attachment/47bb551441da2d6b6a3ec0c03763e3e7a18a243e/1Q25%20%28E%29_with%20guidance_final_wmn.pdf" rel="noreferrer noopener">guided second-quarter</a> 2025 revenue of $28.4 billion to $29.2 billion versus the $26.79<a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/calendars/guidance" rel="noreferrer noopener"> billion analyst estimate</a>. It expects a gross margin of 57% to 59% and operating profit margins of 47% to 49%.



CFO Wendell Huang said, "Moving into second quarter 2025, we expect our business to be supported by strong demand for our industry-leading 3nm and 5nm technologies. While we have not seen any changes in our customers' behavior so far, uncertainties and risks from the potential impact from tariff policies exist. We will continue to closely monitor the potential impact on the end market demand, and manage our business prudently."



Taiwan Semiconductor did not&nbsp;engage in discussions to form a venture or share its technology with any company, dismissing speculation of possible collaboration with struggling chipmaker&nbsp;Intel Corp (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/INTC#NASDAQ">INTC</a>), Bloomberg&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-04-17/tsmc-dismisses-intel-tie-up-talk-says-no-intent-to-share-tech?srnd=phx-technology&amp;sref=TBDibEcD" rel="noreferrer noopener">reported</a>,&nbsp;citing company executives.



In March, Taiwan Semiconductor chief&nbsp;C.C. Wei&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/04/44815107/taiwan-semiconductor-preps-new-chip-tech-to-supercharge-ai-performance-by-2027" rel="noreferrer noopener">announced&nbsp;an additional</a> $100 billion&nbsp;investment&nbsp;in U.S. chipmaking (on top of $65 billion in April 2024). The investment followed&nbsp;President Donald Trump's verbal attacks&nbsp;on Taiwan "for stealing" the U.S. semiconductor business, which led to massive trade deficits for Washington.



Price Action:&nbsp;TSM stock traded higher by 4.40% to $157.33 premarket at the last check on Thursday.

What Happened: Bitcoin reached a high of $85,428.28 in the afternoon but reversed sharply to $83,000, as trading volume dipped 1.28% in the last 24 hours.



Ethereum also had a choppy session, bouncing around $1,500, with the exception of a brief jump above $1,600.



Bitcoin&#8217;s market dominance increased to 63.1%, while Ethereum&#8217;s share fell to 7.2%.



Over $278 million was liquidated from the market in the last 24 hours, with bullish bets accounting for $160 million.



Bitcoin&#8217;s Open Interest dropped 0.13% in the last 24 hours, while the Long/Short Ratio on Binance indicated a higher percentage of traders positioned bullish on the apex cryptocurrency.



The market mood remained one of "Fear," according to the Crypto Fear and Greed Index.

The global cryptocurrency market capitalization stood at $2.65 trillion, following a marginal increase of 0.41% in the last 24 hours.



Stocks sold off sharply on Wednesday. The Dow Jones Industrial Average plunged 699.57 points, or 1.73%, to close at 39,669.39. The S&amp;P 500 lost 2.24%, ending at 5,275.70, while the tech-focused Nasdaq Composite retreated 3.07% to close at 16,307.16.



The market shuddered after Fed Chair Powell <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/economics/macro-economic-events/25/04/44848474/fed-chair-powell-says-tariffs-lead-to-temporary-rise-in-inflation">hinted at the growing risk of higher inflation and slower growth</a> due to President Donald Trump's tariffs.



The probability of interest rates remaining unchanged at next month&#8217;s central bank meeting rose to 83.1% from 81.4% the day before, <a href="https://www.cmegroup.com/markets/interest-rates/cme-fedwatch-tool.html">according </a>to the CME FedWatch tool.



In another development, Powell said that the U.S. was preparing <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cryptocurrency/25/04/44850021/fed-chair-powell-says-crypto-and-banking-rules-will-loosen-as-sector-matures">to relax certain cryptocurrency and banking rules</a> and that the industry has matured and become more mainstream.

Analyst Notes: Popular on-chain analytics firm CryptoQuant noted that the pace of Bitcoin accumulation has reached a two-month low, while outflows have increased.



"Whale holdings fell by 30,000 BTC this week. Miner outflows hit 15,000 BTC on April 7 as margins sank to 33%. Accumulation is now at its lowest pace since February," CryptoQuant added.

Amid Ethereum's stagnation, influential cryptocurrency analyst Ali Martinez identified levels of interest to watch for.

According to recent reports, Bitcoin ETFs <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/04/44850800/bitcoin-holds-steady-as-etf-inflows-continue-and-state-reserve-efforts-face-setback">recorded $76.4 million</a> in net inflows, signaling a rebound after significant outflows. The 3iQ Solana Staking ETF Trade



Ark Invest also made a significant purchase of 500,000 shares of the 3iQ Solana Staking ETF across its Ark Fintech Innovation ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/ARKF#NYSE">ARKF</a>) and ARKW funds. SOLQ.U closed at $10.34 on Wednesday, making the Ark transaction worth $5.2 million. The ETF began trading on the Toronto Stock Exchange on Wednesday, with its largest unitholders including Anthony Scaramucci founded and managed SkyBridge Capital. It invests in long-term holdings of Solana (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/sol/usd">SOL</a>), which are bought from over-the-counter counterparties and aims to give investors &#8220;attractive staking rewards, according to a statement released by 3iQ, which calls itself the world&#8217;s first Digital Assets Managed Account Platform. Over a 24-hour period, Solana shot up over 5% to $132.08.

U.S. stock futures posted modest gains on Wednesday night, recovering from a steep decline in the afternoon session following Federal Reserve chair Jerome Powell&#8217;s latest comments on the market, tariffs, and inflation.



The S&amp;P 500 Futures are up 0.51% at 5,333, the Nasdaq Futures&nbsp;trade at 18,500, up 0.63%, and the&nbsp;Dow Jones&nbsp;is&nbsp;at 40,023, up 0.43%. This comes amid all three indices ending down in the spot market on Wednesday, by 2.24%, 3.07%, and 1.73%, respectively.

Japan&#8217;s benchmark Nikkei 225 opened up 0.27% on Thursday morning, led once again by tech and export-linked stocks.



The U.S. Dollar Index is up 0.13% at the time of writing, after having slid by 0.70% following Fed Chair Jerome Powell&#8217;s <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/government/regulations/25/04/44850992/stocks-sink-as-powell-dismisses-fed-put-safety-net-gold-extends-massive-lead-over-nasdaq">comments on the tariffs</a>, stating that it can lead to &#8220;higher inflation and slower growth&#8221; at the Economic Club of Chicago.



Oil prices witnessed a late rally on Wednesday, with Brent Crude Oil up 0.49%, now trading at $66.17 per barrel, and the U.S. West Texas Intermediate up by 0.67%. This comes after the U.S. Treasury Department decided to sanction a &#8220;teapot&#8221; refinery in China, Shandong Shengxing Chemical Co., for purchasing close to a billion dollars worth of crude oil from Iran, according to a report by Reuters.



With Washington restarting negotiations with Tehran on its nuclear program, the move is aimed at applying additional pressure. U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said, &#8220;Any refinery, company, or broker that chooses to purchase Iranian oil or facilitate Iran's oil trade places itself at serious risk&#8221; in a press release by the department.



Concerns of a tighter supply in the global markets led to a rally in the commodity, which has been reeling under pressure throughout this month owing to tariffs and growing recessionary concerns, <a href="https://tradingeconomics.com/commodity/crude-oil%20">according</a> to TradingEconomics.



Besides this, the markets will be closely watching the earnings results of UnitedHealth Group Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/UNH#NYSE">UNH</a>), Netflix Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NFLX#NASDAQ">NFLX</a>), and American Express Co. Scott Bessent Warns Of 'Serious Risk' To Anyone Buying Iran Oil — Crude Moves Up, US Futures And Nikkei Post Modest Gains

Risk sentiment took a sharp blow Wednesday afternoon after Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell linked rising tariffs to higher inflation and slower growth, while making it clear the central bank has no intention <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/economics/macro-economic-events/25/04/44848474/fed-chair-powell-says-tariffs-lead-to-temporary-rise-in-inflation">of cushioning market losses.</a>



In remarks at the Economic Club of Chicago, Powell said the inflationary effects of tariffs could be more persistent than previously thought, and warned that current policy uncertainty makes it difficult to gauge their full impact. 



Most notably for Wall Street, Powell addressed the notion of a so-called "Fed put"—the belief that the central bank would intervene if markets drop sharply—and offered a blunt response: "I'm going to say no."



That single line pushed traders to recalibrate expectations for any near-term monetary support.



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Stocks Tumble As Chipmakers Extend Losses</h3>



By 3:15 p.m. ET, the S&amp;P 500 – as tracked by the SPDR S&amp;P 500 ETF Trust (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SPY#NYSE">SPY</a>) – had dropped 3.1% to 5,230 points, while the Nasdaq 100 – tracked by the Invesco QQQ Trust (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/QQQ#NASDAQ">QQQ</a>) plunged 4.1% to 18,050, dragged down by the tech-heavy weighting of the index. 



The Dow Jones Industrial Average shed 838 points, or 2.1%, and the Russell 2000 small-cap index also fell 2.1%.



Nearly every sector turned red, with the Technology Select Sector SPDR Fund (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/XLK#NYSE">XLK</a>) nosediving 5%. Energy stocks were the sole exception, buoyed by higher crude prices and safe-haven commodity demand.



Semiconductors were particularly hard hit following fresh export restrictions on Nvidia Corp. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NVDA#NASDAQ">NVDA</a>) chips to China. 



The iShares Semiconductor ETF (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SOXX#NASDAQ">SOXX</a>) plummeted 6.8%, with Nvidia and Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AMD#NASDAQ">AMD</a>) both down around 10%.



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Gold Shines In Flight To Safety</h3>



As stocks tumbled, gold prices climbed, continuing their powerful 2025 rally. The precious metal hit new record highs, rising to over $2,350 an ounce, and is now up 26% year to date. 



With the Nasdaq 100 down 23% over the same period, gold has outperformed the tech index by nearly 50% in less than four months.



Gold's appeal has grown amid mounting inflation concerns, policy uncertainty, and geopolitical tension.



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Powell: No Market Rescue This Time</h3>



Powell's refusal to endorse the "Fed put" marked a sharp shift in tone from the central bank's more accommodative stance in past downturns. While he acknowledged market volatility, he said both equity and bond markets were "functioning" and "orderly."



"Markets are struggling with a lot of uncertainty, and that means volatility," Powell said. "But having said that, markets are functioning."



The Fed chair emphasized that rate decisions will continue to focus on economic data, especially inflation and employment, and not on asset prices.

Gold ETFs: Investing in a gold-focused <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/analyst-ratings/analyst-color/25/04/44836076/gold-fund-inflows-smash-record-with-80-billion-in-2025-these-etfs-are-riding-the-3300-surge">exchange-traded fund </a>can provide investors with exposure to gold's price movements without the need to own or store the metal directly.&nbsp;



"For most [investors], I would say a gold bullion-backed ETF makes the most sense," Sameer Samana, head of global equities and real assets at the Wells Fargo Investment Institute, told CNBC.

While President Trump&#8217;s <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/04/44729499/rh-rallies-after-trump-pauses-tariffs-that-triggered-40-selloff">90-day tariff pause</a> announced last week calmed the worst of the market&#8217;s recent volatility, it's still a market that leaves even the most stalwart investors uncomfortable. Volatility and uncertainty appear entrenched now that the trade war between the US and China is escalating, but that doesn&#8217;t mean you have to sit on the sidelines.



There&#8217;s a whole class of stocks that is barely affected by the US-China spat.



​​Here are five &#8211; and each one pays a nice dividend, too.



Income investing has been a popular theme lately and you don't need to stick to domestic equities to find quality dividends. Today, we'll look at five international stocks with enticing (yet sustainable) dividends whose profits are unlikely to get bogged down by tariffs.



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Mizuho Financial Group Inc.&nbsp;</h2>



Once the largest asset manager in the world, Mizuho Financial Group (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MFG#NYSE">MFG</a>) is still the third largest bank in Japan with nearly $2 trillion in assets (254 trillion yen) and over 59,000 employees. Based in Tokyo, Mizuho splits its divisions into four groups: Retail, Corporate, Wealth and Asset Management and Specialty Affiliates (such as the Mizuho Research Institute). The company's current market cap in dollars is just under $61 billion.

Mizuho has strong fundamentals and was continuing on an uptrend to start 2025 before crashing in the aftermath of the White House's tariff announcements. The stock trades at just nine times forward earnings with a Price-to-Book (P/B) value of 0.91. MFG pays a 3.32% dividend yield with a dividend payout ratio (DPR) under 28, indicating a sustainable payout with room for growth. Benzinga Edge also grades MFG at a 98.94 for Quality, 86.30 for Momentum, and 73.54 for Growth.



On the technical side, MFG had been using the 50-day moving average as a support level before April's crash, but recently triggered an oversold signal on the Relative Strength Index (RSI). If the stock can break through the 200-day moving average here, there could be more upside ahead in addition to the healthy dividend.



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">SK Telecom Co Ltd.&nbsp;</h2>



SK Telecom (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SKM#NYSE">SKM</a>) is one of the largest telecommunication firms in South Korea, with more than $13 billion (USD equivalent) in annual sales and a market cap approaching $9 billion. It's also one of the most prominent sports sponsors in the country (plus esports through a partnership with Comcast), making it one of the most recognizable South Korean brands worldwide.

SKM is also a powerhouse in Korean markets, trading shares on the Korea Exchange and the NYSE. SK Telecom trades at an affordable valuation: the forward P/E is just 9.99, and the Price-to-Sales (P/S) ratio is just 0.64. Telecom has always been a thin-margin business, but SKM posted a 6.89% profit margin last quarter and pays a hefty 6.47% dividend yield (with an elevated yet sustainable 65.7% DPR).



The weekly stock chart also shows a MACD cross, which could trigger the next upward momentum swing. SK Telecom grades out well on Benzinga Edge, too, highlighted by a 99.68 Quality score and 96.10 Value score.



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Banco Santander S.A. ADR&nbsp;</h2>



Founded over 160 years ago, Banco Santander (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SAN#NYSE">SAN</a>) is one of Spain's largest banks and the world's 49th-largest public company as of 2023. Its current market cap sits at approximately $101 billion; it generates more than 70% of its revenue through its Retail Banking segments. Over the last 12 months, the bank reported more than $145 billion in sales and $13.6 billion in net income.

Banco Santander's dividend is as safe and sturdy as it gets within the European banking sector. The current yield is 3.52% with a DPR under 20%, and the company has grown its payout by more than 50% over the last three years. The stock trades at just 6.8 times forward earnings with a P/S ratio of 0.70 and a P/B value of 1.00. The share price also recently broke back above the 50-day moving average, a positive signal for upward momentum.



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Jiayin Group Inc.&nbsp;</h2>



How will a Chinese consumer finance company avoid the strictest of Donald Trump's tariffs? By focusing on its domestic products! Jiayin Group (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/JFIN#NASDAQ">JFIN</a>) is a fintech platform that connects lenders and borrowers on a proprietary platform, and consumer finance products could see a boost from Beijing's aggressive stimulus plans in 2025.

JFIN currently yields a mouth-watering 7.89%, often too high to be sustainable. However, the company's DPR rate is just 17.8%, and the company's most recent earnings release noted impressive 65% gross margins. JFIN also has a 4.18 P/E ratio and a 0.35 P/S ratio, plus Benzinga Edge scores of 96.17 in Value, 96.60 in Momentum, and 79.21 in Growth. The daily stock chart shows a strong uptrend still in place, with the 50-day MA above the 200-day MA and the RSI showing a comfortable number under 50.



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Gold Fields Ltd. ADR&nbsp;</h2>



One asset that hasn't been rocked by volatility is gold, which continues to make new all-time highs in 2025. If you don't want to own gold bullion or U.S. gold miners, you can still get exposure through international stocks, and with Gold Field Ltd. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GFI#NYSE">GFI</a>), you'll earn a dividend yield above 2% as well.

Gold Fields has mines in South Africa, Australia, Ghana and Peru. The company has had numerous successful hauls over the last few years and currently expects EPS growth of 75% this year. The DPR is sustainable at 26%, and the stock trades at 8.7 times forward earnings. Technical signs also point to more upside ahead as well.



A golden cross (50-day MA above 200-day MA) occurred in early February, and the stock price recently challenged the 50-day MA on a dip. But the line held firm as support, triggering the next move upward. As long as gold continues to be a popular trade, gold stocks like GFI could see higher prices and strong dividends ahead.

5 Tariff-Resistant International Stocks With Dividends

Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell hinted the growing risk of higher inflation and slower growth tied to unexpectedly large trade tariffs rolled out earlier this month by <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/donald-trump">the Donald Trump administration.</a>



In remarks delivered Wednesday at the Economic Club of Chicago, Powell said that growth has softened in the first quarter of 2025, while inflation is &#8220;still running a bit above our 2% objective.&#8221;



The Fed Chair highlighted that surveys from households and businesses showed a notable deterioration in sentiment. 



Uncertainty around trade policy has been the dominant driver, causing many forecasters to cut their full-year outlooks. Nevertheless, most estimates still point to moderate, positive growth ahead.



&#8220;The new administration is in the process of implementing a substantial policy changes in four distinct areas: Trade immigration, fiscal policy and deregulation. These policies are still evolving and their effects on the economy remain highly uncertain,&#8221; Powell said.



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Inflation Eased But Tariffs Pose Fresh Risks</h3>



Inflation is cooling, but not fast enough. Total Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) prices—the Federal Reserve's preferred inflation gauge—rose 2.3% year-over-year through March. Core PCE, which excludes food and energy, climbed 2.6%.



These figures are well below the 2022 highs but still exceed the Fed's 2% target. Powell noted that inflationary progress continues "at a gradual pace," and that the central bank remains alert to any threats of reacceleration.



"Tariffs are highly likely to generate at least a temporary rise in inflation," he said. 



While some of that impact may be short-lived, Powell cautioned that it could persist depending on how long the price pressures take to pass through the economy.



The Fed's dual mandate—maximum employment and price stability—could be tested in the months ahead if inflation continues to rise even as growth slows. Should the two goals come into conflict, Powell said the Fed would weigh how far the economy is from each and the likely time needed to meet both targets.



&#8220;For the time being, we are well positioned to wait for greater clarity before considering any adjustments to our policy stance,&#8221; Powell said.



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Powell Fields Questions On Tariffs, Labor, Market Volatility</h3>



During the Q&amp;A session, Powell reiterated the Fed's role in ensuring that inflation shocks from tariffs remain temporary. "Our role is to make sure that this will be a one-time increase in prices and not something that turns into an ongoing inflation process," he said.



Asked whether tariffs could result in a supply shock, Powell acknowledged the risk of persistence. "It can take time to resolve, and what would have been a one-time inflation shock could be extended—perhaps more persistent—and we would worry about that."



On immigration and labor market dynamics, Powell noted a decline in immigration could tighten labor supply, but layoffs in government-funded sectors have not yet materially affected the national workforce of 170 million people. "We're really hearing significant layoffs in cities with universities and research hospitals," he said, though the total economic impact remains hard to quantify.



Regarding fiscal policy, Powell called the federal debt "unsustainable in the long term," while emphasizing that "no one really knows how much further we can go." He underscored the importance of bipartisan cooperation to address ballooning costs in Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security.



On market speculation about a so-called "Fed put"—the idea that the central bank would intervene if markets plunge—Powell was unequivocal: "I'm going to say no."



While he acknowledged that markets are currently facing high levels of uncertainty, especially around policy changes and inflation, he made clear that the Fed's decisions are not driven by equity market volatility alone. 



He indicated that both equity and fixed-income markets are functioning in an orderly way, dismissing speculations of Treasuries dumping from foreign investors.



&#8220;Market is processing historically unique developments,&#8221; he said.



The Fed Chair also confirmed that the central bank stands ready to provide U.S. dollars to foreign central banks via its standing swap lines in the event of global liquidity strains.



As for artificial intelligence, Powell described the technology's potential as "truly remarkable," but cautioned that its long-term labor impact remains uncertain. "It may be the case that AI replaces more jobs than it creates—we just don't know," he said.

'I'm Going To Say No': Powell Rejects Idea Fed Would Rescue Falling Markets (UPDATED)

Several CEOs of the largest U.S. banks have recently expressed concerns about the economic fallout, market volatility and broader uncertainty resulting from President Donald Trump's<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/economics/macro-economic-events/25/04/44791485/bank-stocks-rebound-above-200-day-average-as-earnings-propel-dip-buyers"> new trade policies.&nbsp;</a>



Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GS#NYSE">GS</a>) CEO David Solomon warned of uncertainty and potential turbulence ahead on the company&#8217;s earnings call Monday.&nbsp;



&#8220;This uncertainty around the path forward and fears over the potentially escalating effects of a trade war have created material risks to the U.S. and global economy,&#8221; Solomon told analysts<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/management/25/04/44802094/tariff-fears-pose-material-risks-to-us-and-global-economies-goldman-sachs-ceo-warns"> on the call</a>.&nbsp;

Solomon also noted that he hears an even &#8220;greater sense of short-term concern&#8221; from CEOs located outside of the United States.&nbsp;



Last Friday, JPMorgan Chase &amp; Co. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/JPM#NYSE">JPM</a>) CEO Jamie Dimon <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/management/25/04/44774273/jpmorgan-ceo-jamie-dimon-expects-sp-500-growth-forecast-to-be-cut">pointed out </a>that the analyst community has lowered the consensus S&amp;P 500 growth forecast from 10% to only 5% growth in 2025. He then predicted the forecast to be lowered even further in the near term.&nbsp;



&#8220;My guess is that it [will] be zero and negative five probably the next month," Dimon said.&nbsp;



Dimon has also stated that<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/management/25/04/44717888/jpmorgan-jamie-dimon-warns-recession-now-likely-outcome"> a recession</a> is now a &#8220;likely outcome&#8221; due to the tariffs, and he expects many companies to withdraw or revise their forecasts because of the unpredictability. He emphasized that while the U.S. remains economically strong, the tariff uncertainty challenges that stability and could have lasting negative consequences. 



&#8220;Take a deep breath, negotiate some trade deals," Dimon urged the Trump administration last week. "It could get worse if we don&#8217;t make progress."



Bank of America Corp. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BAC#NYSE">BAC</a>) CEO Brian Moynihan spoke about <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/management/25/04/44829134/bank-of-america-ceo-says-consumers-are-resilient-while-business-owners-worried-as-we-face-a-changing-economy">the effects</a> of economic uncertainty on the mindset of the bank's business-owner clients.&nbsp;



&#8220;They&#8217;re worried about how this will affect their businesses and where they should invest. And I think that&#8217;s slowing down some of their decision paths right now,&#8221; he said, adding that some are considering changing growth plans as well.&nbsp;

Big Bank CEOs Weigh In On Trump's Turbulent Economy

Shares of Nvidia Corp. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NVDA#NASDAQ">NVDA</a>) tumbled more than 6% on Wednesday morning trading in New York after fresh U.S. export curbs on AI chips to China rattled the market, yet some Wall Street analysts see the pullback as <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/expert-ideas">a rare buying opportunity.</a>



In a note shared Wednesday, Bank of America analyst Vivek Arya said the latest H20 chip restrictions to China, while unwelcome, were largely anticipated and pose only a "manageable risk" to Nvidia's sales outlook.



The investment bank reiterated a bullish stance on Nvidia, maintaining a Buy rating and a $160 price target, which implies a 42.6% upside from Tuesday's $112.20 close.



Despite a looming $5.5 billion charge and tighter U.S. export rules, Arya believes the company's deep AI moat and new product cycle could more than offset short-term pain.



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Why Is Nvidia Taking A $5.5 Billion Hit?</h3>



Nvidia disclosed after the close on Tuesday that it will record a $5.5 billion first-quarter charge related to inventory, purchase commitments and reserves following a new U.S. government requirement. 



The policy mandates a license to ship H20 and equivalent AI chips to China and arms-embargoed countries.



The H20 chip, a specialized version of Nvidia's powerful AI hardware tailored to bypass earlier export rules, had emerged as a critical part of its China sales strategy. Yet, with the Trump administration tightening loopholes, those sales are in jeopardy.



Arya said the charge likely reflects "a high probability of H20 restriction" and a "low probability of future licenses," suggesting Nvidia has priced in the worst-case scenario.



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">How Much Could Nvidia Lose?</h3>



Bank of America estimates the H20 ban could lead to a manageable 5%-8% drop in sales and a 6%-10% hit to pro-forma earnings per share in fiscal year 2026 (calendar 2025). 



That's based on assumptions that H20 sales make up about 6%-10% of Nvidia's China revenue, which itself accounts for roughly 14% of total company sales.



Nvidia hasn't disclosed exact figures for H20, but Arya's model projects around $12 billion in sales from the chip for fiscal 2026—well above the $8 billion consensus from data platform Visible Alpha.



While the revenue loss is significant, Arya flagged positive offsets, including accelerating U.S. AI chip demand and strong pricing for Nvidia's next-generation GB300 Blackwell Ultra chips, which are expected to launch in the second half of 2025.



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Is The Stock Undervalued?</h3>



Despite mounting geopolitical risks, Nvidia shares have already begun to price in much of the damage. According to Arya, the stock now trades at around 20 times expected 2025 earnings, down from its historical trough of 23-25 times.



He said that implies investors are now forecasting earnings of about $4 per share, well below the consensus estimate of $4.50 to $5. Arya argues this disconnect offers a compelling entry point, especially as AI chip demand from firms like OpenAI, Google, and Amazon remains robust.



"The global demand for leading-edge AI and Nvidia's unmatched platform leadership can continue to offset regional headwinds," Arya said.



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">What About Other Chipmakers?</h3>



The new rules won't just hit Nvidia. Arya said the increased AI export restrictions are likely to weigh on other semiconductor stocks with AI exposure, including Broadcom Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AVGO#NASDAQ">AVGO</a>), Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AMD#NASDAQ">AMD</a>), Micron Technology Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MU#NASDAQ">MU</a>), Arm Holdings Plc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/ARM#NASDAQ">ARM</a>), Marvell Technology Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MRVL#NASDAQ">MRVL</a>), Coherent Corp. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/COHR#NASDAQ">COHR</a>) and Lumentum Holdings Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/LITE#NASDAQ">LITE</a>).



Washington may continue ratcheting up restrictions beyond China, and further controls could extend to semiconductor manufacturing equipment and design software, areas where the U.S. holds significant leverage.



Yet, despite the U.S.-China tech decoupling may be accelerating, Arya indicates the longer-term AI trend remains intact. 



"We believe AI remains the fastest growing secular growth opportunity in semis," he said, adding that recent volatility in Nvidia stock offers an &#8220;enhanced buying opportunity&#8221; rather than a reason to panic.
