In seeking to track the performance of the index, the fund employs a replication strategy. It generally invests substantially all, but at least 95%, of its total assets in the securities comprising the index. The index includes securities of companies from the following industries: chemicals; metals and mining; paper and forest products; containers and packaging; and construction materials. The fund is non-diversified.

Leading And Lagging Sectors For November 14, 2024

Wall Street saw a modest rebound on Wednesday, spurred by an in-line inflation report that reinforced expectations for a December rate cut. The U.S. dollar continued to gain strength, buoyed by potential tariff tailwinds under <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/donald-trump">the new Trump administration.</a>
Bitcoin again captured headlines as it surged past $93,000, lifting its market capitalization to $1.8 trillion and fueling a wave of enthusiasm across crypto markets, with Dogecoin up over 12%.
The Consumer Price Index met expectations in October, with the annual headline rate increasing to 2.6% and the core <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/economics/macro-economic-events/24/11/41938762/october-inflation-rate-rises-to-2-6-as-expected-december-interest-rate-cut-remains-uncertain">rate steady at 3.3%. </a>
The report alleviated concerns over a potential rate pause in December, driving market odds for a 25-basis-point cut from 58% to 82%, as per the CME FedWatch tool. Treasury yields eased slightly in response to the report.
By midday in New York, all major U.S. equity indices were in slightly positive territory, although with the tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 underperforming. Leading sectors included consumer discretionary and real estate, while utilities and health care lagged.
In political developments, U.S. Sen. John Thune (R-SD) was elected as the new majority leader in a secret ballot.
The U.S. dollar, tracked by the Invesco DB USD Index Bullish Fund ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/UUP#NYSE">UUP</a>), hit its highest level since November 2023, marking a fresh one-year high.
Gold dipped 0.6%, on track for a fourth consecutive loss.

Stocks Edge Higher, Dollar Hits 1-Year Peak, Bitcoin Soars To $93,000: What's Driving Markets Wednesday?

Wall Street saw the first surge in risk aversion after Donald Trump's election victory last week, as concerns grew over potential tariffs and trade policy shifts spurred by the<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/trading-ideas/movers/24/11/41902202/trumps-china-hawks-rumored-for-top-roles-yuan-hits-3-month-low"> incoming administration's key appointments.</a>
Trump is reportedly considering Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) for secretary of state and Rep. Mike Waltz (R-Fla.) for national security advisor. Both are vocal hawks on China and NATO, raising concerns of a tougher U.S. stance that could strain key geopolitical and trade relationships.
Adding to the cautious sentiment, investors are bracing for Wednesday's key inflation data release, with economists forecasting the annual rate to hit 2.6% in October.
As of midday trading in New York, none of the major U.S. equity indices posted gains, while small caps underperformed, with the Russell 2000 down 1.5%. Ten out of 11 S&amp;P 500 sectors traded in the red, with consumer staples the only marking tiny gains.
Chinese stocks suffered steep declines, with major U.S.-listed companies falling between 5% and 9% as worries over potential tariffs spooked investors.
The dollar, viewed as a hedge against tariff risk, strengthened, with a currency-weighted index reaching its highest level since May 2024. 
The Japanese yen slipped past 154.7 per dollar, fully erasing gains from the Bank of Japan's August intervention, while the Chinese yuan and the euro also weakened, with the euro falling below $1.06.
Treasury yields climbed, with the 10-year Treasury yield up eight basis points to 4.42%, pushing the popular iShares 20+ Year Treasury Bond ETF (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TLT#NASDAQ">TLT</a>) down 1.2%.
The cryptocurrency market also faced pressure, with Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) down 1.6%. Gold dropped for a third straight day, weighed down by a stronger dollar and higher Treasury yields, as it struggled to attract safe-haven inflows.

The &#8220;Trump-related everything rally&#8221; reignited across markets on Monday, with heightened focus on last week's top performers like small caps, financials, Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSLA#NASDAQ">TSLA</a>), and cryptocurrencies, all surging as the <a href="https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&amp;source=web&amp;rct=j&amp;opi=89978449&amp;url=https://www.benzinga.com/markets&amp;ved=2ahUKEwiQxOXV7NSJAxWUTKQEHQWeNCEQFnoECB8QAQ&amp;usg=AOvVaw1FmExYgZnKyK1W0mkY7TrX">new trading week began.</a>
The Russell 2000 Index outperformed major large-cap indices, nearing a retest of its all-time high from November 2021.
Financials shone brightest again, with both large and regional banks posting strong gains. The SPDR S&amp;P Regional Banking ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/KRE#NYSE">KRE</a>) surged 3.9%, reaching levels last seen in August 2022.
Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) also dominated headlines, surpassing the $85,000 milestone and fueling widespread gains across other crypto assets.
Major crypto-related stocks, including Coinbase Global Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/COIN#NASDAQ">COIN</a>), rallied nearly 22%, hitting highs last seen in late November 2021. MARA Holdings (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MARA#NASDAQ">MARA</a>) soared 25%, with Riot Platforms Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/RIOT#NASDAQ">RIOT</a>) and CleanSpark Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CSLK#NASDAQ">CSLK</a>) both up by 21%.
Within tech, Tesla continued its rally, while the rest of the sector lagged, weighed down by sharp declines in semiconductors following new AI-related export restrictions to China, impacting Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSM#NYSE">TSM</a>).
Elsewhere, the U.S. dollar extended its gains, while Treasury yields held steady, with the 10-year yield hovering around 4.3%.
Prices tumbled in commodities, with the exception of natural gas, which rose roughly 10%. Gold dropped over 2%, and oil fell by 3%.

The S&amp;P 500 index surged past the 6,000-point milestone, setting fresh record highs, and small-cap stocks are poised for their best weekly performance since April 2024 as investor optimism surrounding the &#8220;Trump trade&#8221; continued to fuel a strong risk-on sentiment by the end of a <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets">wild week in the market</a>. 
All major U.S. indices posted modest gains in midday trading, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average leading slightly, soaring beyond the 44,000-point mark. The blue-chip index is set for its best weekly performance in over a year.
Friday's rise in the S&amp;P 500 was powered by the utilities and real estate sectors, which had lagged post-election. Tech stocks took a breather following Thursday's rally.
Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSLA#NASDAQ">TSLA</a>) surged 7%, pushing its weekly gains beyond 27% and propelling its market cap past $1 trillion. 
This move now places every "Magnificent Seven" tech stock in the trillion-dollar club, with the group's combined market cap topping $17 trillion.
Treasury yields held steady, while the dollar strengthened in response to the Federal Reserve's Thursday 25-basis-point rate <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/economics/macro-economic-events/24/11/41823887/powell-dismisses-talk-of-resignation-after-trump-victory-says-policy-is-still-res">cut to 4.5%-4.75%</a>.
Gold softened, eyeing its worst week since late May, as both silver and oil dropped over 2% on the day. Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) edged up 0.8%, extending its weekly gains to over 11%, marking its best week since July.

How Did S&P 500 Stock Sectors Perform During Trump's First Term? Could This Time Be Different?

The S&amp;P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average surged to record levels on Wednesday after Donald Trump was elected as <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/donald-trump">the 47th U.S. president.</a>
In Congress, Republicans clinched a majority in the Senate, while the House race remains close. As of Wednesday morning&#8217;s tabulations, Republicans held 198 seats versus 180 for Democrats.
The S&amp;P 500 index, as tracked by the SPDR S&amp;P 500 ETF Trust (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SPY#NYSE">SPY</a>), climbed 2% to 5,900 points, while the Dow soared over 3% to 43,500 points. The blue-chip index, monitored through the SPDR Dow Jones Industrial Average ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/DIA#NYSE">DIA</a>), marked its biggest single-day gain since November 2022.
The financials and industrials sectors were the top performers, up 5.2% and 3%, respectively.
The tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 witnessed smaller gains, up 1.8%, while small-cap stocks skyrocketed, with the Russell 2000 index spiking over 5%. 
The CBOE Volatility Index (VIX), often called the &#8220;fear gauge,&#8221; plummeted 22%, indicating waning investor concerns amid post-election optimism.
Investors are responding positively to the prospect of more lenient tax policies under the upcoming Trump administration, though inflation risks and potential shifts in Federal Reserve policy highlighted by economists seem to be largely overlooked by the market for now.
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Economic Implications Of A Trump Presidency, Goldman Sachs Weighs In</h3>
&#8220;If Republicans secure a narrow House majority, this would likely enable a full extension of the 2017 tax cuts, set to expire in 2025, potentially with some reinstated business investment incentives,&#8221; wrote Jan Hatzius, Goldman Sachs&#8217; chief economist.
A Republican-controlled Congress may also drive increased federal spending, particularly on defense, Goldman Sachs indicated.
"We would expect Trump to impose additional tariffs averaging 20% on imports from China," Hatzius added, highlighting that this policy could provide a &#8220;one-time boost to core PCE inflation&#8221; and &#8220;a modest drag on GDP.&#8221;
Goldman Sachs projects that the incoming Trump administration would likely pursue a more relaxed approach to regulation, especially in energy, financial services, and labor. 
However, while antitrust oversight may soften somewhat, scrutiny of the tech sector is expected to persist.

The Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR Fund (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/XLY#NYSE">XLY</a>) which serves as a proxy for the Consumer Discretionary sector, posted a 1.77% rally on Nov. 5, surpassing the S&amp;P 500's 1.23% rise.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Big Movers: GM, Tesla, Norwegian Cruise Lead The Charge</h2>
General Motors Co (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GM#NYSE">GM</a>), Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSLA#NASDAQ">TSLA</a>), and Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NCLH#NYSE">NCLH</a>) were key drivers behind the Consumer Discretionary sector's strong performance.

Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSLA#NASDAQ">TSLA</a>) continued its upward trajectory on Friday, rising 2.7% following a massive 21% jump on Thursday — its biggest one-day gain since May 2013.
The S&amp;P 500 was up 0.5% at midday trading in New York, while the Nasdaq 100 surged by 1.5%, fueled by semiconductor stocks. 
The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.3%, on track to end a six-week winning streak. The U.S. dollar strengthened further, with the DXY Index rising past the 104 mark, setting up for a fourth straight week of gains. Meanwhile, Treasury yields were steady.

Tech Stocks Rally As Investors Await Magnificent 7 Earnings; Dollar Eyes Fourth Straight Positive Week: What's Driving Markets Friday?

Tech stocks outperformed on Thursday, driven by Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSLA#NASDAQ">TSLA</a>), which skyrocketed 18% in midday trading following stronger-than-<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/10/41515376/tesla-to-rally-more-than-24-here-are-10-top-analyst-forecasts-for-thursday">expected quarterly financial results. </a>
The electric vehicle giant is on track for its best session since March 2021.
Despite Tesla&#8217;s spectacular rally, broader market sentiment remained cautious, reflecting recent trends of subdued risk appetite.
In macroeconomic news, weekly jobless claims dropped significantly, coming in below expectations and suggesting ongoing resilience <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/analyst-ratings/analyst-color/24/10/41517353/jobless-claims-fall-more-than-expected-continuing-benefits-surge-to-nearly-3-year-h">in the labor market. </a>

Tech Stocks Rebound, Tesla Marks Best 1-Day Gain Since March 2021, Gold Rises As Treasury Yields Ease: What's Driving Markets Thursday?

The Sherwin-Williams Company (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SHW#NYSE">SHW</a>) shares are trading lower after the company reported third-quarter adjusted EPS and <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/24/10/n41447753/the-sherwin-williams-company-reports-2024-third-quarter-financial-results" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">sales below analyst estimates</a>.
Quarterly revenue rose&nbsp;0.7%&nbsp;to&nbsp;$6.16 billion,&nbsp;missing the analyst consensus of&nbsp;$6.20 billion.&nbsp;
Revenue benefitted from the higher sales in the Paint Stores and the impact of the acquisition in 2023, partly offset by lower sales in the Consumer Brands and Performance Coatings Groups.
Net sales in Paint Stores Group rose 3.2%, driven by low-single-digit growth in sales volume and the continued impact of higher selling prices introduced earlier in the year.
Quarterly gross profit increased to&nbsp;$3.028 billion&nbsp;from&nbsp;$2.92 billion a year ago. Gross margin in the quarter expanded to&nbsp;49.1&nbsp;% from&nbsp;47.7% a year ago.
Adjusted earnings per share of&nbsp;$3.37&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/earnings" rel="noreferrer noopener">missed the Wall Street view of&nbsp;$3.54</a>.
The company returned cash of&nbsp;$1.97&nbsp;billion&nbsp;to shareholders&nbsp;in the form of&nbsp;dividends and repurchases of 4.4&nbsp;million shares of its common stock during the&nbsp;first nine&nbsp;months of 2024.&nbsp;
As of September&nbsp;30, 2024, the company had authorization to buy back 35.3&nbsp;million shares of its common stock through open market purchases.
Sherwin-Williams&#8217; regular quarterly dividend of $0.715 per common share is payable on December 6 <a href="https://www.benzinga.com//node/41364216">to shareholders of record on November 15.</a>
Sherwin-Williams exited the quarter with cash and cash equivalents worth&nbsp;$238.2 million.
Outlook:&nbsp;Sherwin-Williams reaffirmed 2024 adjusted EPS&nbsp;guidance to&nbsp;$11.10 &#8211; $11.40&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/calendars/guidance" rel="noreferrer noopener">vs. the&nbsp;$11.50&nbsp;estimate</a>.
The company now expects full year 2024 sales to be flat to up a low-single-digit percentage (prior view: up low-single digit percentage) compared to full year 2023.
For the fourth quarter, Sherwim-Williams expects net sales growth to be flat to up low-single-digit percentage.
President and Chief Executive&nbsp;Officer&nbsp;Heidi G. Petz said, &#8221;We are highly confident these current near-term investments in stores, sales and technical reps, expanded services and digital capabilities will help generate sustained and profitable above-market growth. We expect SG&amp;A to moderate sequentially, resulting in a low to mid-single digit increase for the second half as anticipated.&#8221;
&#8220;In our pro architectural business, demand remains variable by end market, with no impact to date from recent interest rate cuts. North American DIY demand remains weak driven by inflation and higher consumer debt levels. In our industrial businesses, demand remains choppy by end market and region.&#8221;
&#8221;We are maintaining our previous full year earnings guidance, recognizing the current range is wider than typical entering a fourth quarter. This range accounts for several variables that are hard to forecast precisely, including demand related to recovery from hurricanes Helene and Milton, and the potential for extended holiday shutdowns by industrial customers.&#8221;

DuPont Boosts Photoresist Production With Major Expansion In Japan

The S&amp;P 500 reached record highs during Wednesday morning trading in New York, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 climbed past the 20,000-point mark, a level last <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/money/best-tech-stocks">seen on July 17.</a>
Semiconductor stocks outperformed, driven by anticipation of Micron Technology Inc.&#8217;s (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MU#NASDAQ">MU</a>) earnings report, due after the market close on Wednesday.
Yet, Wall Street showed sideways performance across major indices as investors cautiously digested positive stimulus news from China, which boosted market sentiment on Tuesday, and looked ahead to upcoming economic data.
On Thursday, investors will turn their attention to the final second-quarter gross domestic product report. The second estimate already showed the U.S. economy growing at a robust 3% pace for the quarter ending in June.
Weekly jobless claims will also be closely monitored, especially after the latest Conference Board Consumer Confidence Index revealed growing labor market concerns among U.S. households.
Friday brings the release of the personal consumption expenditures price index for August, the Federal Reserve&#8217;s <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/large-cap/24/09/41029162/feds-favorite-inflation-data-friday-could-sway-november-interest-rate-cut-odds">preferred inflation gauge</a>. This data could provide critical clues about the expectations for the November rate cut.
The U.S. dollar index edged higher Wednesday, supported by a slight rise in Treasury yields. Oil prices dipped by 1% but pared heavier losses after a larger-than-expected draw in crude oil inventories suggested continued strong demand.
In the crypto space, Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) fell 0.8%, retreating from an intraday high of $64,800 – its highest level since late July.

S&P 500 Hits All-Time Highs, Nasdaq 100 Tops 20K Ahead Of Key Economic Data: What's Driving Markets Wednesday?

Wall Street inched higher on Tuesday, with the Nasdaq 100 outperforming other major indices, while cyclical sectors linked to metals and industrial commodities saw strong gains, fueled by a surprise stimulus package <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/asia/24/09/41003814/chinese-stocks-jump-as-central-bank-unveils-major-stimulus-to-spur-economy-a-step-in-the-right-direc">from China&#8217;s central bank.</a>
The People&#8217;s Bank of China (PBOC) unveiled a series of aggressive measures, including cuts to the reserve requirement ratio (RRR) for banks and a reduction in the seven-day repo rate, following a recent cut to the 14-day reverse repo rate. These moves are expected to inject roughly $140 billion (1 trillion yuan) into the banking system, providing banks with additional liquidity to boost lending.
Chinese equities skyrocketed on the news, with the iShares China Large-Cap ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/FXI#NYSE">FXI</a>) soaring over 8%, marking its largest single-day gain since March 2022. 
Commodities followed suit with copper and silver climbing more than 3% each, while gold rose 0.7%, hitting record highs for the fourth consecutive session.
The Nasdaq 100 posted a 0.5% gain, leading U.S. indices, while the S&amp;P 500 remained nearly flat, hovering just shy of its all-time highs. 
The U.S. dollar weakened by 0.4% following a lower-than-expected September consumer confidence report from the Conference Board. This data has bolstered expectations for a potential 50-basis-point rate cut by the Federal Reserve in November.
Treasury yields fell on short-term maturities, while longer-dated yields held steady. Oil prices climbed 1.2%, though concerns about U.S. demand lingered due to the disappointing consumer confidence figures.
Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) slipped 0.2% failing to join the China-led rally across other risk assets.

Tech Stocks Rise, Materials Sector Rallies On China's Stimulus, Nvidia Surges: What's Driving Markets Tuesday?

Markets are bouncing Wednesday afternoon following the Federal Reserve&#8217;s decision to cut rates by 0.5%, marking the beginning of the central bank&#8217;s <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/analyst-ratings/analyst-color/24/09/40918078/is-the-fed-playing-with-fire-we-see-greater-risk-of-an-overheating-economy-as-they-">highly anticipated cutting cycle</a>.
What To Know: Wednesday&#8217;s&nbsp;0.5% rate cut brings the&nbsp;target fed funds rate&nbsp;to a new range&nbsp;between 4.75% and 5%, down from a 23-year high of 5.25% to 5.5%. It&#8217;s also the first rate cut since March 2020.
The fed funds rate has been sitting at a range between&nbsp;5.25% and 5.5%&nbsp;since the central bank last hiked in July 2023.
The SPDR S&amp;P 500 (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SPY#NYSE">SPY</a>), which tracks the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/s-p-500">S&amp;P 500</a> index, was up 0.44% at all-time highs at last check, led higher by a variety of names like Arm Holdings Plc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/ARM#NASDAQ">ARM</a>), The Trade Desk Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TTD#NASDAQ">TTD</a>) Toyota Motor Corp (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TM#NYSE">TM</a>), General Motors Co (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GM#NYSE">GM</a>) and Marriott International (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MAR#NASDAQ">MAR</a>).

The energy sector, tracked by the Energy&nbsp;Select Sector SPDR Fund (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/XLE#NYSE">XLE</a>), was the weakest, down 0.3% following the rate cut. Energy stocks had performed well on Wednesday ahead of the Fed decision, which may explain some of the relative weakness in afternoon trading.
