The CNN Money Fear and Greed index showed some improvement in the overall market sentiment, while the index remained in the &#8220;Greed&#8221; zone on Monday.



U.S. stocks settled higher on Monday, with the Nasdaq Composite gaining more than 100 points during the session.



Wall Street closed on a positive note last month, with the S&amp;P 500 gaining more than 6.2% in May and the Nasdaq jumping 9.6%. Both indices recorded their strongest months since November 2023. The Dow surged 3.9% for the month.



President Donald Trump announced over the weekend that tariffs on steel and aluminum imports will be doubled to 50% starting June 4, reigniting trade tensions with China. Beijing responded by accusing Washington of seriously violating trade agreements and pledged to take strong measures to defend its interests. The renewed dispute ignited a rally in precious and industrial metals.



Campbell's Co. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CPB#NASDAQ">CPB</a>) posted better-than-expected third-quarter results. Lyra Therapeutics Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/LYRA#NASDAQ">LYRA</a>) shares jumped over 310% on Monday after the company announced its ENLIGHTEN 2 Phase 3 trial of LYR-210 met its primary endpoint.



On the economic data front, the ISM manufacturing PMI declined to 48.5 in May compared to 48.7 in April, also missing market estimates of 49.5. U.S. construction spending declined by 0.4% month-over-month to an annual rate of $2,152.4 billion in April following a revised 0.8% fall in March.



Most sectors on the S&amp;P 500 closed on a positive note, with energy, communication services and information technology stocks recording the biggest gains on Monday. However, industrial stocks bucked the overall market trend, closing the session lower.



The Dow Jones closed higher by around 35 points to 42,305.48 on Monday. The S&amp;P 500 gained 0.41% to 5,935.94, while the Nasdaq Composite climbed 0.67% at 19,242.61 during Monday's session.



Investors are awaiting earnings results from Dollar General Corp. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/DG#NYSE">DG</a>), Signet Jewelers Ltd. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SIG#NYSE">SIG</a>) and Ferguson Enterprises Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/FERG#NYSE">FERG</a>) today.



What is CNN Business Fear &amp; Greed Index?



At a current reading of 62.3, the index remained in the &#8220;Greed&#8221; zone on Monday, versus a prior reading of 61.6.



The Fear &amp; Greed Index is a measure of the current market sentiment. It is based on the premise that higher fear exerts pressure on stock prices, while higher greed has the opposite effect. The index is calculated based on seven equal-weighted indicators. The index ranges from 0 to 100, where 0 represents maximum fear and 100 signals maximum greediness.

Leading cryptocurrencies climbed on Monday, despite rising trade tensions between the U.S. and China.

What Happened: Bitcoin surpassed $106,000 overnight, after fluctuating between $104,000 and $105,000 throughout the day. Trading volume jumped 30% from the previous day.



Similarly, Ethereum broke past $2,600 in the late evening rally, with volume rising by over 43% in the last 24 hours. The spike comes after co-founder Vitalik Buterin said that the blockchain&#8217;s base layer <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/crypto/25/06/45716370/ethereums-l1-will-be-scaled-by-10x-over-the-next-year-says-vitalik-buterin">will be scaled by 10x</a> in about a year.



Bitcoin's market dominance narrowed to 63.8%, while Ethereum's share of the market widened to 9.5%



More than $200 million was liquidated from the cryptocurrency market in the last 24 hours, with bearish bets accounting for 62% of the total liquidations.



Moreover, nearly $363 million in shorts risked liquidation if BTC rallied to $108,000.



Ethereum's Open Interest jumped 7.22% in the last 24 hours, reaching a new all-time high of $36.46 billion. More than 60% of Binance traders with open ETH positions were long at the time of writing.

The global cryptocurrency market capitalization stood at $3.34 trillion, following an increase of 1.08% in the last 24 hours.



Stocks edged up on the first trading day of June. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 35.41 points, or 0.08%, to end at 42,305.48. The S&amp;P 500 rose 0.41% to close at 5,935.94, while the tech-focused Nasdaq Composite spiked 0.67% to end at 19,242.61.



Investors continued to monitor developments around the U.S.-China trade dispute. China rejected President Donald Trump&#8217;s<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/politics/25/06/45715447/xi-jinpings-china-dismisses-trumps-groundless-accusations-on-geneva-trade-deal-breach-vows-strong-retaliation"> allegations of violating the Geneva trade pact</a>. Instead, it accused the U.S. of imposing &#8220;discriminatory restrictive&#8221; policies, such as limiting AI chip exports.

Analyst Notes: Blockchain analytics firm Santiment observed that cryptocurrency traders were being cautious about Bitcoin.



"Bitcoin mentions across social media show 1.3 bullish comments for every 1 bearish comment. This reflects the crowd&#8217;s high association between BTC and the stock market, with its success highly contingent on a healthy American economy," Santiment stated.



On the other hand, there was euphoria for Ethereum, with 3 bullish comments for every 1 bearish comment, likely due to its 41% surge last month.

Cryptocurrency analyst and trader Michaël van de Poppe noted a "hidden bullish divergence" for ETH, signaling a potential upward breakout.&nbsp;



"It&#8217;s still taking a lot of time, but happy to be seeing the consolidation while still being up a lot from the low in April," Van De Poppe said.

Just weeks after announcing its <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/equities/25/05/45398101/microsoft-to-cut-6000-jobs-in-global-restructuring-joins-meta-and-amazon-in-trimming-workforce-amid-ai-driven-shift">largest round of layoffs</a> in years, Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MSFT#NASDAQ">MSFT</a>) has decided to eliminate hundreds of additional jobs.



What Happened: On Monday, more than 300 Microsoft employees were told that their roles had been cut, <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-06-02/microsoft-layoffs-continue-with-hundreds-more-cut">reported</a> Bloomberg, citing a Washington state notice.&nbsp;



A Microsoft spokesperson confirmed this development to the publication, saying, "We continue to implement organizational changes necessary to best position the company for success in a dynamic marketplace."



These layoffs follow the roughly 6,000 cuts Microsoft announced last month.

Microsoft Fires Hundreds More Workers Amid AI-Fueled Growth, Calls It Positioning The Company For 'Success'

Sen.&nbsp;Elizabeth Warren&nbsp;(D-Mass.) is once again calling out corruption in the Trump Administration, following a questionable decision made by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.



What Happened: On Monday, Warren shared a video on X questioning the SEC&#8217;s recent approval of Brazilian meat processing company&nbsp;JBS SA&#8217;s&nbsp;(OTC:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/JBSAY#OTC">JBSAY</a>) listing on the New York Stock Exchange, despite its history of corruption, price fixing, and safety violations.



&#8220;JBS and its subsidiaries have been fined hundreds of millions of dollars for bribery, for price fixing, for safety violations, you name it,&#8221; Warren said.

&#8220;And can you guess which company made the single largest donation to Trump's inauguration? Pilgrim's Pride, which is owned by JBS,&#8221; while noting that the figure was higher than the contributions made by Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AAPL#NASDAQ">AAPL</a>), Amazon.com Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AMZN#NASDAQ">AMZN</a>), Meta Platforms Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/META#NASDAQ">META</a>), and Alphabet Inc. JBS SA did not immediately respond to <a href="https://pro.benzinga.com/dashboard" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Benzinga&#8217;s</a> request for comments. Why It Matters: JBS SA&#8217;s owner, Joesley Batista, is known to have <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/analyst-ratings/analyst-color/17/05/9487244/brazil-is-no-stranger-to-corruption-what-trump-and-the-u">recorded a conversation</a> with former Brazilian President Michel Temer where the latter is seen encouraging the continuous bribery of a jailed politician. Temer replaced President Dilma Rousseff as the leader of Brazil. Rousseff was impeached for criminal administrative misconduct.



JBS shareholders approved the company&#8217;s proposal for a dual listing during its Extraordinary General Meeting held two weeks ago. Its shares are expected to begin trading in Brazil&#8217;s São Paulo Stock Exchange (B3), as well as the New York Stock Exchange, on June 9 and 12, respectively, according <a href="https://jbsfoodsgroup.com/articles/jbs-shareholders-approve-dual-listing">to</a> a press release.

Dimon has cautioned that Wall Street's optimism may be misplaced, predicting zero or even negative growth ahead, a potential crack in the bond market and mounting fiscal deficits.

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Risk of Recession&nbsp;</h3>



In the days after President Donald Trump announced the "worst-case scenario" for tariffs on &#8220;Liberation Day&#8221; in early April, markets were roiled with uncertainty and Dimon appeared in an interview on Fox Business. 



When asked if he<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/management/25/04/44717888/jpmorgan-jamie-dimon-warns-recession-now-likely-outcome"> expected a recession</a>, Dimon replied, &#8220;I think that&#8217;s a likely outcome.&#8221;&nbsp;



&#8220;A 2,000-point Dow decline creates a self-reinforcing cycle – people see losses in retirement accounts and pensions, leading to spending cuts,&#8221; he said.&nbsp;



Though Dimon acknowledged that markets don&#8217;t always predict accurately, he said, &#8220;This time they&#8217;re right in pricing macro/micro-level uncertainties and consumer sentiment impacts.&#8221;&nbsp;



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Zero Growth&nbsp;</h3>



About a week after Dimon's recession forecast, the CEO hosted <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/management/25/04/44774273/jpmorgan-ceo-jamie-dimon-expects-sp-500-growth-forecast-to-be-cut">JPMorgan's earnings call</a> and pointed out that the analyst community had lowered the consensus S&amp;P 500 growth forecast from 10% to only 5% growth in 2025.&nbsp;



He then predicted the forecast to be lowered even further in the near term.&nbsp;



&#8220;My guess is that it [will] be zero and negative five probably the next month," Dimon warned.&nbsp;



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">‘Huge Deficits'</h3>



Dimon pointed to the U.S. budget deficit after Moody&#8217;s downgraded the country&#8217;s<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/econ-s/25/05/45479078/moodys-downgrades-us-credit-rating-over-debt-deficit-concerns"> credit rating</a> in mid-May, citing concerns over a sustained increase in government debt and interest payment ratios.&nbsp;&nbsp;



&#8220;We have huge deficits; we have what I consider almost complacent central banks,&#8221; Dimon said. &#8220;You all think they can manage all this. I don&#8217;t think they can,&#8221; he added.



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Bond Market</h3>



Dimon warned last week that mounting risks are gathering<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/economic-data/25/05/45704089/jamie-dimon-warns-of-bond-market-crisis-caused-by-us-debt-binge-youre-going-to-panic"> in the bond market</a>, leaving the financial system exposed to a potential shock after years of unchecked debt accumulation and expansive monetary policy.



"You're going to see a crack in the bond market," Dimon said, warning regulators and market participants of a looming dislocation.



"It's going to happen, and you're going to panic. I'm not going to panic."

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">National Security and Defense&nbsp;</h3>



The head of the largest bank in the country spoke to a group gathered at the Reagan National Economic Forum last Friday and warned that the United States must focus more on <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/crypto/cryptocurrency/25/05/45709673/us-should-stockpile-bullets-not-bitcoin-jamie-dimon-says">traditional defense priorities</a> and less on Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>).&nbsp;



He called for increased defense budgets and faster modernization to keep pace with global rivals and suggested the need to become more flexible with contracts in order to pivot, when necessary, to evolving technologies. 



&#8220;We don&#8217;t need to stockpile bitcoin,&#8221; Dimon said. &#8220;We should be stockpiling guns, bullets, tanks, planes, drones, you know, rare earths—we know what we need to do, it&#8217;s not a mystery.&#8221;&nbsp;

Jamie Dimon's 5 Most Recent Dire Warnings Include Recession, 'Panic' And Zero Growth

Per-ounce gold prices are up $1,000 from a year ago, and defensive-minded investors can be forgiven for balking at the yellow metal's skyrocketing price.



Metals experts cite multiple reasons why gold prices are so high right now.&nbsp;



"If you step back, it's not surprising that we've seen gold surge by $1,000 per ounce over the past year," said Rana Vig, president and CEO of Blue Lagoon Resources Inc., a Vancouver-based mineral exploration company. "It's a textbook gold rally created by a perfect storm of macroeconomic and geopolitical factors."



Vig said the economy and markets have seen persistent inflation concerns, aggressive central bank buying (especially from countries seeking to reduce U.S. dollar exposure), and ongoing global instability. "Add to that falling confidence in fiat currencies and tariff instability, and you have an environment where gold speculation can thrive."



Given gold&#8217;s rapid rise, investors who wish to use metals as a powerful hedge against volatile markets have other options.



It's worth noting that gold prices aren't necessarily out of reach for precious metals investors.



"No doubt, the easy money in this cycle may have already been made," Vig noted. "As for new investors coming in now, the upside will be harder to find without taking on more risk."



One major upside of gold is that it's not just a speculative asset or a hedge for volatility. In many parts of the world, it's a way of life. 



"In countries like India, where gold is deeply woven into the cultural and economic fabric, it's not uncommon for entire villages to pool resources and buy gold by the gram," Vig added. "Even the poorest households will save in gold, not stocks, not bonds because it's tangible, trusted, and borderless."



That level of generational trust in gold continues to anchor demand globally. "For Western investors, there's something to learn from that mindset: Gold isn't just about price, it's about preservation," Vig noted. "It's about holding something real when everything else feels uncertain."



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Non-Physical Gold Portfolio Options</h2>



Experts say that if current per-ounce gold prices at $3,300 are too high, investors have formidable "Plan B" options in the precious metals market. These metal plays may be your best bets.



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Silver</h3>



Silver&#8217;s price is expected to rise to $40 an ounce within the next six to twelve months, about a 20% increase from current levels.



"This is similar to the projection for gold, and silver and gold tend to move in tandem with each other," said Brett Elliott, marketing director at American Precious Metals Exchange in Urbandale, Iowa. "Silver has a constrained supply, large industrial buyers who will pay virtually any amount to get the silver they need, and growing demand from various sectors."



Additionally, silver rallies tend to follow gold rallies, and gold has been rallying frequently this year. "Just like gold, silver is highly liquid and can be bought and sold in physical form, through ETFs, or through digital silver apps where the metal is vaulted but owned by you," Elliot noted.



Another factor favoring silver is supply and demand.&nbsp;



"There's a huge silver shortage in the world due to a lack of silver mines, and the demand for silver will continue to be high due to its usage in electric vehicles, electric vertical take-off and landing vehicles, and other electrical appliances," said Sankar Sharma, investing analyst and founder of RiskRewardReturn.com, mentioning iShares Silver Trust (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SLV#NYSE">SLV</a>). "The best and easiest way to invest in silver is via the iShares Silver Trust, which is trading at an attractive $29.99 entry price as of May 30."



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Copper</h3>



Copper is another robust metal contender for defense-oriented investors. "It's essential electrification, whether it&#8217;s electric vehicles, grid infrastructure, or renewable power," Vig said. "And while copper's global demand is expected to outpace supply over the next decade, its market price, in many ways, still hasn't caught up relative to its fundamental story."



Geography also matters with copper.



"Copper is an excellent base metal to get into as electric utility needs for third world countries are only going to increase over the next 10 to 20 years," said Robert Kientz, operations lead at Kinesis Bullion USA.



Overall, global economies are moving into an expansion cycle, which should fuel demand for copper. "If an investor has a five-year game plan, then copper stocks and miners are likely to move higher," Sharma said.&nbsp;



Sharma added that good copper stocks to consider include Freeport McMoran (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/FCX#NYSE">FCX</a>), Southern Copper Corporation (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SCCO#NYSE">SCCO</a>), Barrick Mining Corporation (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/B#NYSE">B</a>) and Rio Tinto Plc (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/RIO#NYSE">RIO</a>).



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Zinc</h3>



Zinc is an often overlooked precious metal, but it's critical to infrastructure across the globe. "As major economies reinvest in aging roads, bridges, and transport networks, zinc demand will remain strong," Vig said. "At the same time, recent supply disruptions have tightened the market, creating an attractive setup."



He recommends starting with producers like Teck Resources (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TECK#NYSE">TECK</a>), which offers zinc and copper exposure in a single play. The stock is trading at $37 per share and is down over 8% for the year, suggesting a possible "buy the dip" opportunity.



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Gold ETFs</h3>



Suppose you're only interested in exposure or short-term trades. In that case, a gold exchange-traded fund can provide a low-cost way of expanding your portfolio and has the added bonus of near-instant liquidity.



There are some caveats, however. "If you're planning to hold gold for a few years or longer, the expense ratio on most gold ETFs is cost inefficient in the long run," Elliot said. "Physical gold often provides a better value for gold longs. You pay the premium once on physical gold, but with an ETF, you pay the expense ratio every year."



It's also ideal to conduct thorough due diligence on gold ETFs.



"Before investing in gold funds, investors must review suitable ETFs to ensure the fund's holdings are purely linked to gold," Sharma said.



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">The Takeaway On Gold And Its Long-Term Outlook</h2>



Near the mid-point of 2025, gold is edging higher for two reasons.&nbsp;



"We are in a time of geopolitical instability and inflation of the monetary supply," said Blake Mclaughlin, vice president of exploration at Axcap Ventures. "With both scenarios at play, it's no surprise that we have seen the price of gold rise consistently over the last 18 months. Also driving the surge in price are the central banks' continuous and real-time adjustments in gold allocation."



Yet despite an uptick in the price, gold comprises just a fraction of a percent of global investment holdings, noted Mclaughlin. "However, with the release of the US Federal Reserve's May meeting minutes, which flagged rising inflation and risks of recession, gold's appeal as a safe-haven asset is likely to increase and may soon make up a larger portion of investor portfolios." 



That's what precious metals with limited capacity can do to drive a portfolio upward.&nbsp;



"When it comes to gold supply, a tap cannot be turned on to increase supply &#8211; it takes years, even decades, to substantially increase it, making a demand spike like the one we are seeing carry significant impacts," Mclaughlin added.

3 Gold Alternatives Set To Soar Next

President Donald Trump had promised a manufacturing renaissance, but after a hopeful start to his new term, sentiment in the sector is now sliding fast, with data showing another contraction in <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/econ-s">factory activity in May.</a>



The Institute for Supply Management's Manufacturing Purchasing Managers Index edged down to 48.5% in May from 48.7% in April, signaling the fastest pace of contraction since late 2024.



The outcome surprised economists, who expected a reading of 49.5%. It underscores persistent weakness in industrial production just months after a brief February rebound.



&#8220;In May, U.S. manufacturing activity slipped further into contraction after expanding only marginally in February,&#8221; said Susan Spence, chair of the ISM Manufacturing Business Survey Committee. 



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Stubborn Inflation On The Input Side As Tariffs Bite</h3>



Even as output softens, cost pressures are refusing to ease. The Prices Index remained in increasing territory at 69.4%, just slightly below April's 69.8%, and still at levels not seen in three years. That reflects ongoing supply chain bottlenecks, port delays, and the lingering effects of tariffs.



Inventories have also swung into contraction, while supplier deliveries remain sluggish. The Imports Index plunged by 7.2 points, showing a sharp decline in inbound goods, and hinting at weakened demand or procurement challenges linked to evolving trade policies.



New orders continued to shrink for the fourth month in a row, registering 47.6%, though slightly better than April's 47.2%. Meanwhile, the Backlog of Orders Index showed some recovery from 43.7% to 47.1%, though it remains in contraction territory.



Despite a slight increase in the Employment Index from 46.5% to 46.8%, manufacturing jobs are still shrinking. Companies are cutting headcounts, often favoring layoffs over attrition for quicker cost reduction.



In the words of a transportation equipment executive, "There is continued softening of demand in the commercial vehicle market, primarily related to higher prices and economic uncertainty." 



The respondent added &#8220;the impact of ever-changing trade policies of the current administration has wreaked havoc on suppliers' ability to react and remain profitable.&#8221;



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Market Reactions: Dollar Drops, Bond Yields Rise</h3>



The U.S. dollar index, tracked by Invesco DB USD Index Bullish Fund ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/UUP#NYSE">UUP</a>), fell to 98.7 levels during Monday&#8217;s morning trading in New York, its lowest since April 23, as traders weigh weaker economic momentum.



Meanwhile, long-duration bonds sold off, with yields on the 30-year Treasury note climbing 5 basis points to 4.97%. The iShares 20+ Year Treasury Bond ETF (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TLT#NASDAQ">TLT</a>) dropped 1.2%, as concerns over U.S. debt trajectory persist. 



Equity markets also started the week on a downbeat tone. The S&amp;P 500 index slid 0.5%, reflecting concerns that persistent cost inflation could squeeze corporate margins further.

Trump's Manufacturing Narrative Weakens As May Data Shows Sharper Contraction, Stubborn Inflation

After delivering its strongest monthly performance since November 2023, Wall Street entered June on a cautious note, with mounting geopolitical tensions and new trade tariffs clouding investor <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/etfs/new-etfs/25/06/45722678/magnificent-seven-closed-a-blockbuster-may-added-nearly-2-trillion-in-market-value">appetite for risk assets.</a>



President Donald Trump announced over the weekend that tariffs on steel and aluminum imports will be doubled to 50% starting June 4, reigniting trade tensions with China. Beijing responded by accusing Washington of seriously violating trade agreements and pledged to take strong measures to defend its interests.



The renewed dispute ignited a rally in precious and industrial metals. Aluminium prices climbed 2.5%, copper gained 3%, and silver soared 4.6%, marking its best daily performance since September 2024. Gold also caught a bid, rising 2.8% to $3,327 per ounce, its highest level since May 8, as investors sought safe-haven protection.



Russia's war with Ukraine escalated over the weekend, with Ukrainian drones striking airfields deep inside eastern Siberia. Moscow responded with one of its largest missile and drone barrages yet.



The geopolitical flare-up sent oil prices up 3.5% to $64 a barrel, shrugging off OPEC+'s announcement of a 411,000 barrels-per-day production hike starting in July.



Meanwhile, U.S. natural gas prices spiked 7% as traders priced in a potential increase in LNG demand from Europe.



On the macro front, the Institute for Supply Management's Manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) revealed a deeper-than-expected contraction in May. Price pressures remained elevated, hovering near their highest<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/economic-data/25/06/45724821/trumps-manufacturing-narrative-weakens-as-may-data-shows-sharper-contraction-stubborn-inflation"> levels in three years.</a>



Selling pressure resumed in the Treasury market, with the yield on the 30-year U.S. bond rising 6 basis points to 4.98%. 



The iShares 20+ Year Treasury Bond ETF (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TLT#NASDAQ">TLT</a>) dropped 1.5%, reflecting losses in long-duration bonds. At the same time, the U.S. dollar softened, with the dollar index falling to 98.7, its lowest in over a week.



Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) fell 1.3% to $104,000, continuing its pullback from recent highs.

Apple was the lone laggard, falling 6% in May and wiping out $192 billion in market cap. This underperformance, compared to the S&amp;P 500's 6% gain, marks Apple's worst relative showing since 2018.



Historical patterns, however, suggest the dip might be a buying opportunity. As detailed in <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/education/25/05/45675595/apple-eyes-worst-month-vs-sp-500-since-2018-but-history-says-buy-the-dip-now">a recent Benzinga analysis</a>, Apple has often rebounded strongly after periods of relative weakness.



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Why Analysts See More Upside</h3>



Goldman Sachs analyst Ryan Hammond said he&#8217;s watching for the Magnificent Seven to outperform the broader market this summer, citing earnings strength and their defensive appeal.



"Supercap Tech will act as a ‘defensive growth proxy,' and this is exactly what investors want during what will remain highly uncertain times," Hammond said in a Monday note.



He added that the group posted its best quarterly positive earnings-per-share surprise since the third quarter of 2023.



David Mazza, CEO of Roundhill Investments — which manages the Roundhill Magnificent Seven ETF — echoed the bullish sentiment, emphasizing that these companies are not speculative growth plays.



"These companies aren't speculative bets on future adoption," Mazza said. "They are the infrastructure of the real economy and, in some cases, staples within global consumers' lives."



Mazza believes exposure to themes like enterprise demand, AI, cloud computing and automation will prove more resilient than traditional sectors such as consumer staples or utilities.



"MAGS offers diversified exposure to this rare blend of growth, quality, and macro relevance," he said. "In a world where clarity is scarce, the Magnificent Seven remain, ironically, the most grounded in real earnings and economic activity."



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Yet Valuations Are Stretching Again</h3>



Ed Yardeni, president of Yardeni Research, said in an emailed comment last week that the S&amp;P 500's forward price-to-earnings ratio rose from 18.0 in early April to 21.5 by the end of May.



He added that most of this jump came from the Magnificent Seven, whose group valuation climbed from 21.9 to 27.4 — showing strong investor demand for top tech stocks but also raising concerns that they may be getting too expensive.

Magnificent Seven Closed A Blockbuster May, Added Nearly $2 Trillion In Market Value

GE Aerospace Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GE#NYSE">GE</a>) is passing along higher prices to customers after U.S. trade tariffs created a $500 million cost burden, meaning airlines, and eventually passengers, will soon <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/tariffs">feel the heat.</a>



Speaking from New Delhi at the International Air Transport Association's annual meeting, chief executive officer Larry Culp told Bloomberg that the world's largest aircraft engine maker is no longer able to shield customers from the financial impact of trade restrictions introduced under President Donald Trump's policies.



"We will be taking cost actions and passing along some of that residual," Culp said.



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Is GE Already Seeing The Tariff Impact?</h3>



"Very much so," Culp said when asked whether the tariffs are affecting business now. The company has seen rising expenses and is adjusting its pricing strategy to preserve margins.



"We're managing the best we can, mitigating where we can through those supply-chain improvements but also through the cost and price actions," he said.



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Tariff-Free Trade Helped Build US Aerospace</h3>



For decades, the global aerospace industry benefited from the 1979 Civil Aviation Agreement, which allowed for duty-free trade among key nations. 



Culp said that the framework helped U.S. companies like GE and Boeing Co. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BA#NYSE">BA</a>) build a $75 billion annual trade surplus in aviation. But that advantage is eroding under new trade barriers.



"We've been advocating for a return to where we were on the heels of that 1979 civil aviation agreement," he said.



The U.S. has already signed a trade deal with the U.K., and more negotiations are underway. 



"I think June will be an important month," Culp added, as more agreements could shape the future cost landscape for aerospace exports.



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Production Pressure Grows As Airbus And Boeing Ramp Up</h3>



GE is working to keep pace with increasing production from both Airbus SE and Boeing Co., who are planning record monthly output levels. 



"Be it with Airbus, be it with Boeing, they are effectively sold out through the rest of this decade," Culp said.



GE holds a $170 billion backlog and expects to build more engines in the second half of 2025 and in 2026 than in the first half of this year. 



Culp said parts received from key suppliers in April and May rose double-digits compared to the first quarter, a sign that the company's supply chain efforts are starting to pay off.



GE is also a major supplier to the U.S. Department of Defense, powering two-thirds of the U.S. combat aircraft and helicopters. Culp said the company remains focused on long-term military contracts and advanced engine development as defense spending increases.



When asked about growing concern over technology exports to China, Culp said GE has followed strict government procedures for years and is prepared for tighter controls if they come. 



"We welcome the scrutiny," he said.

Canned soup products maker&nbsp;The Campbell's Company&nbsp;(NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CPB#NASDAQ">CPB</a>) shares are&nbsp;trading <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/25/06/b45717977/campbells-reports-third-quarter-fiscal-2025-results" rel="noreferrer noopener">higher in the premarket&nbsp;on Monday</a>.



The company reported&nbsp;third-quarter&nbsp;sales growth of 4%&nbsp;year over year (Y/Y) to&nbsp;$2.475 billion, beating the analyst&nbsp;consensus estimate of&nbsp;$2.43 billion.



The benefit from the Sovos Brands acquisition drove the increase. Organic net sales rose 1% Y/Y to $2.3 billion, led by favorable volume/mix (+2%).

Adjusted gross margin contracted 110 basis points to 30.1%. This is mainly due to cost inflation and other supply chain costs, and the impact of the acquisition.



Adjusted EBIT of&nbsp;$362&nbsp;million&nbsp;increased by&nbsp;2%&nbsp;Y/Y in the quarter, aided by the contribution of the acquisition.



Adjusted EPS of&nbsp;$0.73 <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/earnings" rel="noreferrer noopener">beat the consensus estimate of&nbsp;$0.66.</a>



The company held&nbsp;$143 million&nbsp;in cash and equivalents as of April 27, 2025. Operating cash flow for nine&nbsp;months totaled&nbsp;$872&nbsp;million.



The company has paid&nbsp;$343&nbsp;million&nbsp;in cash dividends and repurchased around $60&nbsp;million&nbsp;in common stock year-to-date.
