Alcoa

Alcoa is a vertically integrated aluminum company whose operations include bauxite mining, alumina refining, and manufacturing primary aluminum. It is the world's largest bauxite miner and alumina refiner by production volume, and the eighth-largest aluminum producer. Profits are closely tied to prevailing commodity prices along the aluminum supply chain.Alcoa was the first mass producer of aluminum, launching the world-changing Hall-Heroult smelting process in the 1880s, making aluminum affordable. China's finance ministry said on Friday it would reduce or cancel export tax rebates for a wide range of commodities and other products, effective Dec. 1.
The country will reduce the export tax rebate rate for some refined oil products, photovoltaics, batteries, and certain non-metallic mineral products from 13% to 9%.
It will also cancel the rebate for aluminum and copper products and chemically modified animal, plant, or microbial oils and fats.
The announcement triggered a jump in aluminium prices on the London Metal Exchange as traders anticipated it may curb a heavy flow of Chinese aluminium abroad.
The news also contributed to a sharp rise in U.S. soyoil prices as it appeared Chinese used cooking oil would be covered by the changes.
Chinese shipments of used cooking oil to the <a href="https://www.reuters.com/markets/commodities/trump-trade-policy-seen-wild-card-us-soybean-farmers-opportunity-crushers-2024-11-13/">United States</a> and Europe for use in biofuel have challenged locally produced feedstocks like soyoil.
China's used cooking oil exports typically fall under the customs category of chemically modified animal, plant, or microbial oils and fats category, for which export rebates will be scrapped.

Alcoa shares are trading higher amid strength in aluminum after China reportedly indicated it would reduce export tax rebates on a range of commodities.

U.S. stocks were lower, with the Dow Jones index falling around 300 points on Friday.
Shares of Despegar.com, Corp. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/DESP#NYSE">DESP</a>) rose sharply during Friday's session after the company reported <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/DESP/earnings">better-than-expected third-quarter sales.</a>
The company said it sees FY24 revenue of at least $760 million and adjusted EBITDA of at least $170 million
Despegar.com shares jumped 19.1% to $17.70 on Friday.
