Dow Dips 250 Points; US Weekly Jobless Claims Surge

Agenus Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AGEN#NASDAQ">AGEN</a>) stock is trading lower on Thursday, with a session volume of 6.29 million, according to data from <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/pro/feature/newsfeed" rel="noreferrer noopener">Benzinga Pro</a>.
The company announced the results of its end-of-Phase 2 (EOP2) meeting with the FDA to advance its immunotherapy combination, botensilimab (BOT) and balstilimab (BAL), for adult patients with relapsed/refractory microsatellite-stable colorectal cancer (r/r MSS CRC) <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/24/07/b39834370/agenus-announces-end-of-phase-2-meeting-outcomes-and-topline-interim-phase-2-data-for-botbal-in-ms" rel="noreferrer noopener">with no active liver metastases (NLM)</a>.
The FDA discouraged the accelerated approval pathway and advised against submitting these results to support an Accelerated Approval based on its view that objective response rates may not translate to survival benefits.
Agenus previously&nbsp;disclosed&nbsp;data from the Phase 1 trial, which showed an overall response rate (ORR) of 23% in the 77 MSS mCRC patients without active liver metastases, with a median follow-up of 13.6 months.
The estimated 6-month, 12-month, and 18-month overall survival (OS) rates were 86%, 71%, and 62%, respectively. The estimated median OS was 21.2 months.
Topline interim data from the Phase 2 trial show trends consistent with the Phase 1 study, including an ORR of 19.4% and a 6-month survival rate of 90% for the BOT 75mg/BAL combination.
The safety profile was manageable, and no new signals were observed.
Agenus plans to explore opportunities to partner in the U.S. to accomplish a successful Phase 3 trial.
In addition to the progress in the U.S., Agenus is advancing its efforts to bring BOT/BAL to patients in Europe.
Engagements with the European Regulatory Authority to explore registration paths are scheduled for later this summer.
These discussions aim to align on the regulatory path for approval of the BOT/BAL combination in Europe.
Agenus continues to pursue opportunities for BOT/BAL development in earlier lines of CRC and other tumor types where BOT/BAL has demonstrated clinical activity, such as lung, melanoma, and pancreatic cancers.
The company expects to present data from some of these programs at future medical congresses, including BOT/BAL in sarcoma at the European Society for Medical Oncology in September 2024.

Commodities In commodity news, oil traded down 0.3% to $82.60 while gold traded up 0.3% at $2,467.00.
Silver traded up 0.6% to $30.565 on Thursday, while copper fell 2.1% to $4.3175.
Euro zone
European shares were higher today. The eurozone's STOXX 600 rose 0.6%, Germany's DAX rose 0.4% and France's CAC 40 rose 0.9%. Spain's IBEX 35 Index rose 0.9%, while London's FTSE 100 rose 0.8%.
Construction output in the Eurozone fell 2.4% year-over-year in May compared to a revised 1.5% decline in the prior month. Passenger car registrations in the European Union climbed 4.3% year-over-year to 1.1 million units in June.
Regular pay in the U.K., excluding bonus payment, rose 5.7% year-over-year to GBP 643/week during the three months to May, while the unemployment rate came in unchanged at 4.4% from March to May.
Asia Pacific Markets
Asian markets closed mixed on Thursday, with Japan's Nikkei 225 dipping 2.36%, Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index gaining 0.22%, China's Shanghai Composite Index gaining 0.48% and India's S&amp;P BSE Sensex climbing 0.78%.
Hong Kong&#8217;s unemployment rate came in unchanged at 3% during the three months ending June. Japan reported a trade surplus of JPY 224.04 billion in June, compared to market views for a deficit of JPY 240 billion.
Economics
