By 2030, Mastercard plans to eliminate manual card entry and static passwords, using tokenization and biometric authentication for secure, seamless online checkout.
Tokenization, introduced a decade ago to safeguard sensitive data, will be integrated with biometric authentication to ensure that every online transaction across Mastercard&#8217;s network is both tokenized and authenticated, enhancing both convenience and security.
This transformation is already underway in major markets and is expected to become widespread in the near future.
Notably, over 30% of Mastercard transactions globally are currently tokenized through Mastercard Digital Enablement Service (MDES), with markets like India approaching 100% tokenization for e-commerce.
Jorn Lambert, chief product officer at Mastercard, said, &#8220;Just like the transition from signing and swiping to tapping cards, we&#8217;re now moving from manual entry and passwords to seamless and secure payments in just a few clicks. With this shift we are protecting sensitive data through advanced encryption and tokenization technologies,&#8221;
&#8220;As payments continue to be embedded across a range of commerce experiences, we&#8217;re leading the way to a global economy that empowers everyone – providing consumers with greater control, convenience and peace-of-mind while unlocking new sales for merchants, and lowering fraud for issuers,&#8221; he added.

"Homebuyers, particularly first-time buyers who do not have the ability to make larger down payments, have been more willing to accept a higher payment burden," Fratantoni commented. The average 30-year fixed-rate mortgage peaked in May at 7.2%, keeping some potential buyers on the sidelines and leaving those dependent on financing in a pinch.
The squeeze on buyers reflects the sixth week of declining mortgage applications, showing just how much the current rate environment has cooled off what was previously a red-hot market.  He explained that refinancing is particularly rate-sensitive; as a result, refinance applications dropped 19% in just one week, though they remain 48% higher than the same week last year.
"Most people refinancing are looking for immediate relief, but even those with larger loans are opting out now," Kan noted.
"They're susceptible to even slight changes in rates." He pointed out that the average refinance loan size has dropped below $300,000, signaling that borrowers with larger debts may hesitate to lock in rates at this level.&nbsp;
The impact doesn't stop with refinance applicants. Mortgage applications for home purchases also slid, dipping 5% for the week and barely registering a 2% increase from last year.&nbsp;

According to Kan, home-buying activity has seen a boost over recent months as more inventory becomes available and prices ease a bit, but the recent rate hikes seem to be pricing some buyers right back out. "People are simply less willing to leap into a new mortgage with such high rates. The<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/personal-finance/24/11/41728751/even-as-inflation-cools-most-americans-cant-get-ahead-and-continue-living-paycheck-to-paycheck-r"> higher costs</a> are turning what would have been a manageable purchase into a hard sell," he observed.
Experts are mixed on where rates might head in the near term, but there's some cautious optimism for 2024. Analysts at S&amp;P Global Ratings expect mortgage rates to gradually ease and if that pans out, the housing market may find some breathing room.&nbsp;

Shares of Cisco Systems Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CSCO#NASDAQ">CSCO</a>) declined in early trading on Thursday, even after the company reported <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/earnings/24/11/41955614/cisco-q1-earnings-revenue-beat-eps-beat-strong-start-to-year-customers-investing-in-ai-and-more">upbeat fiscal first-quarter earnings</a>.
The company reported its results amid an <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/earnings">exciting earnings season</a>. Here are some key analyst takeaways.

Goldman Sachs: Cisco Systemsreported its fiscal first-quarter earnings at 91 cents per share, higher than consensus of 87 cents per share, with the beat being driven by better-than-expected gross margins and in-line revenue of $13.8 billion, Ng said in a note. Order growth ex-Splunk accelerated to 9% year-on-year, with 17% growth in Enterprise and 22% in Service Provider &amp; Cloud, he added.
"Webscale, which is a subset within Service Provider &amp; Cloud, was a bright spot with orders growing triple digits," including more than $300 million of AI orders, the analyst wrote. The AI momentum puts Cisco Systems "well on track" to exceed its fiscal 2025 target of $1 billion in AI orders, he further stated.
Piper Sandler: Cisco Systems posted total revenues of $13.84 billion, which represents a 6% year-on-year decline but came in higher than expectations by around 1%, Fish said. "The upside again came via Product, though primarily was due to ~ $20M higher Splunk contribution," he further wrote.
Management raised their annual revenue guidance by $200 million at the midpoint, "given the demand environment, but more likely the upside of recurring Splunk revenue," the analyst stated. This led Cisco Systems to raise its earnings guidance to $3.60-$3.66 per share, he added.
Morgan Stanley: Cisco Systems reported higher-than-expected quarterly results, largely due to Splunk's outperformance, Marshall said. "Upending on networking is improving coming out of inventory digestion," he added.
The company benefited from "meaningful traction" across three AI investments, the first being more than $300 million in AI orders, the analyst stated. Second was double digit growth in networking orders due to improving connectivity ahead of AI and the third was "in terms of data center modernization for enterprises ahead of AI investments," he further wrote.
Price Action: Shares of Cisco Systems had declined by 1.30% to $58.41 at the time of publication on Thursday.
