Since its founding in 1806, Colgate-Palmolive has grown to become a leading player in the household and personal care arena. In addition to its namesake oral care line (which accounts for north of 40% of its total sales), the firm manufactures shampoos, shower gels, deodorants, and homecare products that are sold in over 200 countries. International sales account for about 70% of its total business, including approximately 45% from emerging regions. It also owns specialty pet food maker Hill's (around one fifth of sales), which sells a majority of its products through veterinarians and specialty pet retailers.

No one likes a flip-flopper, whether in politics or stocks. When a stock can't make up its mind on a direction or trend, it can drive investors to abandon their positions in search of greener pastures.&nbsp;
This can create headaches in other areas, such as tax bills, trading fees, and overtrading, which can all be very costly. If you believe in a company&#8217;s long-term prospects but think in the short term that the stock will keep going sideways, there&#8217;s a better strategy than selling.
There&#8217;s a trading strategy that can let you collect income while you wait for the stock to grow to its full potential.
The strategy in question &#8211; covered calls &#8211; is used to earn income from a range-bound asset by selling a call option on a stock you already own. In this trade, you would sell a call option with a strike price slightly above the stock's current market price and collect the upfront premium. Your obligation to the option buyer is "covered" by the 100 shares you already own. If the strike price is reached and the call is exercised, you deliver 100 shares to the buyer and retain the premium.
However, if the call expires without hitting the strike, you keep the stock and pocket the premium as a profit. The upside is limited, but your downside risk is protected by collecting the premium and owning the stock.
A covered call is a neutral strategy, so your max profit is limited to the option premium. If the stock price increases too much, the option buyer will exercise the contract and claim the shares you hold at the strike price. And if the stock declines, the income from the option premium offsets some of your losses.

JM Smucker (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SJM#NYSE">SJM</a>) makes popular snack treats and coffee, such as Uncrustables, Folgers, Carnation, and JIF, along with pet food brands like Meow Mix and Milk-Bone. The company has had uneven revenue over the last few years, and profit margins have sagged from the consistent 7-9% figures produced from 2021 to 2023.

The stock has struggled as well, trading in a downtrending range for the better part of the last 18 months. While revenue growth has been spotty, the company appeals to income investment thanks to a 3.8% yield and 27 years of consecutive payout increases. On the daily chart, the RSI shows that the range-bound trading is likely to continue, making SJM a strong covered call candidate. The call option strike price should be set above the upper trendline on the chart, and investors can collect both dividend income and option premium.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Ford Motor Co. </h2>
It's been a rough few years for Ford (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/F#NYSE">F</a>). The stock made new all-time highs during the 2021 bull market but lagged behind during the recovery from the 2022 bear market. The stock has been range-bound since mid-2022, trading between $9 and $15 for the better part of three years.

Ford shares could continue trading in this range even longer as the company's electrification goals will take years. Tariffs could also hit the Big Three automakers hard, although Ford has more domestic production than competitors like GM. With a Price-to-Earnings ratio under nine and a dividend yield over 7%, the stock is attractive to value investors, but it&#8217;s hard to get overly bullish on a stock facing so many potential headwinds. Ford is currently trading near the lower bound of its range, which means less premium collected on the call option, but also a slimmer chance of the stock reaching the strike price (which should be set around the $15 resistance level). 
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Colgate-Palmolive Co. </h2>
Consumer staples companies like Colgate-Palmolive (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CL#NYSE">CL</a>) make decent covered call candidates since they often have thin margins, steady demand, and low beta stocks. In other words, they don&#8217;t move much. However, CL shares make a different type of candidate as the stock's range has been narrowing in a wedge pattern, which could signal a consolidation of capital preparing to alter the current trend.

However, CL's wedge still has a wide range, and the stock is currently bumping up against the upper bound. Here's why CL is a good covered call candidate: if the stock fails to break above the trendline, it indicates the trend breakout isn't imminent, and the premium collected from selling a call at this level will be hefty. If the stock does break through the trendline, the trade idea can (and should) be aborted.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Walt Disney Co. </h2>
Disney (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/DIS#NYSE">DIS</a>) has seen its own share of highs and lows over the last few years. Like Ford, the company has failed to recapture its all-time highs from 2021 and lagged the S&amp;P 500 as stocks recovered in 2023 and 2024. However, the company is seeing a revival of its theme park businesses and profit margins have expanded for four consecutive quarters.

So why is Disney stuck in this long-term range? Despite revenue expansion, Disney+ subscriber growth is actually starting to decline, and the company continues to struggle to find direction for sports properties like ESPN. The stock hasn't traded above $123 per share since August 2022, and the current market price is right at the resistance level of the range. Despite gains of more than 20% this month, Disney could be tapped out, making it ideal for a covered call if you own it.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Allstate Corp. </h2>
Allstate (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/ALL#NYSE">ALL</a>) reached a new all-time high as recently as March, and placing a resistance trendline at an all-time high can be risky when trading. But this is the third time ALL shares have approached this level; the first two attempts failed to continue the momentum. The more attempts a stock makes to break a resistance level, the stronger that level becomes. A third failure could be bad news for shareholders.

A covered call can protect your investment should the stock fail to breach the $213 level again. If the stock does make a new all-time high, don't write the call; enjoy the profits you earn from owning it. But if it looks like the stock has once again failed to break through and trends lower, the premium collected from selling the call can help offset the retreat back to support.

Procter &amp; Gamble Co. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/PG#NYSE">PG</a>) unveiled a sweeping overhaul on Thursday at the 2025 Deutsche Bank Global Consumer <a target="_blank" href="https://d18rn0p25nwr6d.cloudfront.net/CIK-0000080424/995e4954-0a90-46da-8215-51b98f42f344.html" rel="noreferrer noopener">Conference</a>. It outlined a strategy to simplify operations and sharpen its focus on core growth areas.
The move is part of a broader effort to boost efficiency and enhance long-term value for shareholders.
The restructuring plan includes cost-cutting initiatives and the elimination of up to 7,000 roles, primarily targeting non-manufacturing functions.

P&amp;G anticipates taking pre-tax charges ranging between $1 billion and $1.6 billion over the next two fiscal years, with about 25% of those being non-cash charges tied to asset write-downs.
Procter &amp; Gamble intends to streamline its portfolio by divesting underperforming brands and exiting select markets. It also plans to revamp its supply chain using automation and digital tools while reducing organizational layers to cut overhead and reinvest in brand development.
For <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/04/44984872/gillette-parent-procter-gamble-slides-on-q3-sales-decline-lowered-outlook" rel="noreferrer noopener">the third quarter</a>, the company&#8217;s organic revenue climbed 5%, driven mainly by pricing strategies. Net income grew 8% to $8.6 billion, while GAAP earnings per share reached $3.49. Core EPS rose 4% to $3.81, and free cash flow productivity remained above 100%.
P&amp;G expects flat all-in sales and 2% organic growth for fiscal 2025. It lowered adjusted EPS guidance and forecasted $200 million in headwinds from commodities and forex. Dividend and buyback plans remain unchanged.

Procter & Gamble To Eliminate 7,000 Roles, Divest Brands In New Restructuring Strategy

Jim Cramer thinks that the bond market now offers a clearer risk-reward trade-off than so-called "safety" stocks, warning that rising 10-year Treasury yields and a political "wild card" in Washington make even dividend stalwarts feel shaky.
What Happened: The 10-year Treasury yield's jump to its highest level in more than a month has tightened the spread between bond payouts and blue-chip dividends, dulling the appeal of AbbVie (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/ABBV#NYSE">ABBV</a>), Johnson &amp; Johnson (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/JNJ#NYSE">JNJ</a>), Procter &amp; Gamble (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/PG#NYSE">PG</a>) and Colgate-Palmolive (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CL#NYSE">CL</a>), Cramer <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2025/05/14/jim-cramer-explains-why-its-hard-to-own-usual-safety-stocks-here.html">told</a> CNBC&#8217;s &#8216;Mad Money&#8217; viewers on Wednesday.
"In a very uncertain tape for what <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/content/44809259/3-safe-dividend-stocks-as-investors-seek-to-reset-diversification">used to be called</a> ‘safety stocks,' I'd rather just own a piece of paper like the 10-year Treasury, where, if worst comes to worst, at least I get my money back," Cramer said.
Cramer flagged Robert F. Kennedy Jr., newly installed as Health and Human Services secretary, as an <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/equities/24/11/42254495/trumps-hhs-pick-rfk-jr-has-a-long-history-of-challenging-global-health-policies">unpredictable force</a> who could clamp down on pharmaceutical pricing and food additives. "Investors don't know whether Kennedy will act in favor of the companies he's tasked with regulating," he cautioned.

AbbVie's rich dividend likewise looks less generous when a risk-free Treasury pays nearly the same rate with zero headline risk.
Consumer staples aren't immune either, says Cramer. Procter &amp; Gamble and Colgate boast recession-proof brands, yet their 2–3% yields no longer tower over Treasuries, and Cramer said "the yields may simply not be high enough to justify the risk."
Snack titan PepsiCo (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/PEP#NASDAQ">PEP</a>) and cereal maker General Mills (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GIS#NYSE">GIS</a>) could also <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/government/regulations/24/11/42144709/kennedys-war-on-food-dyes-could-be-coming-to-your-breakfast-table">come under fire</a> if Kennedy pushes to restrict artificial colors and other additives, Cramer warned, asking rhetorically whether kids would still eat Lucky Charms without its rainbow marshmallows.
Why It Matters: For now, Cramer said he is "tempted to buy General Mills" on weakness, but fears Washington's next pitch more than the stock's upside.
Cramer also told "Mad Money" viewers that recession worries can be a buying opportunity, saying high-quality retailers look cheap so long as you don't think the economy will "fall off a cliff." Despite earlier warning, the sector was in the trade-war "blast radius," he now does have a <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/05/45416455/jim-cramer-says-these-retail-stocks-rl-gap-can-survive-a-market-correction">couple of clear favorites</a> to scoop up on any dip.

Colgate-Palmolive Co (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CL#NYSE">CL</a>) posted better-than-expected first-quarter FY25 <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/CL/earnings">earnings on Friday</a>.
The company&#8217;s first-quarter FY25 sales declined 3% year over year to $4.91 billion, beating the analyst consensus estimate of $4.86 billion. Non-GAAP EPS of $0.91 beat the consensus estimate of $0.86.
&#8220;As we look ahead, uncertainty and volatility in global markets, including the impact of tariffs, remain challenging. We are confident in our strategy and will continue to execute with focus and agility to mitigate these factors and achieve our revised 2025 financial targets,&#8221; said Chairman, President, and CEO Noel Wallace.
For FY25, Colgate said it expects net sales to be up in the low single digits, including a negative impact from foreign exchange in the low single digits. The company anticipates organic sales growth to be 2% to 4%.
Colgate shares fell 3% to trade at $91.08 on Monday.

This Week In Cannabis: Trump's Reform Buzz Drives Stocks Up, RAW's Secret Factory, Global Shifts And More

Wall Street's three-day rally came to a pause on Friday, with major indices hovering near the flatline by midday in New York as caution returned amid mixed signals on <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/global/25/04/45004954/china-reportedly-begins-exempting-key-us-imports-from-tariffs-including-pharma-and-aerospace-parts">U.S.-China trade relations.</a>
President Donald Trump claimed to have held a phone call with President Xi Jinping, yet Chinese officials denied that any talks had taken place.
Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSLA#NASDAQ">TSLA</a>) extended its rally into a fourth consecutive session, notching its best weekly performance of the year with a 16% gain. On Thursday afternoon, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy introduced a new regulatory framework for self-driving vehicles, saying it aimed to reduce bureaucratic hurdles and advance toward a unified national standard.
T-Mobile US Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TMUS#NYSE">TMUS</a>) was the biggest laggard of the day, falling 11%, on track for its worst single-day loss since March 2020. In crypto markets, Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) rose 1.2% to $95,000.
