The stock had a solid run in 2025, up nearly 20% year-to-date and 21% over the past 12 months. But with a 3.5% pullback in the past month, all eyes are now on its first-quarter report, expected to drop shortly on May 5, after market hours.
<h1 class="wp-block-heading">Alyftrek and Journavx — The Two Big Launches</h1>
According to JPMorgan analyst Jessica Fye, investors will be laser-focused on the company&#8217;s two big launches: Alyftrek and Journavx. While Vertex's cystic fibrosis heavyweight Trikafta is still expected to bring in the bulk of first quarter revenue — $2.51 billion of the $2.74 billion total JPMorgan is modeling — international headwinds, particularly from Russia's disregard of IP rights, could muddy the picture.

What remains to be seen is where the uptake is coming from — retail or hospitals — and how insurance coverage and patient types shake out.

On the charts, Vertex stock is technically leaning bullish. It&#8217;s trading above its 20-day, 50-day and 200-day simple moving averages, although just barely below its eight-day SMA. The Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) and slight buying pressure suggest cautious optimism, despite the stock's recent cool-down.
Bottom line? 
With multiple pipeline catalysts and the first quarter potentially validating new product momentum, Vertex could quickly recapture investor enthusiasm — or leave analysts recalibrating expectations.

Vertex Has A Lot Riding On Alyftrek, Journavx — And Investors Are Watching Closely

Nvidia Corporation (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NVDA#NASDAQ">NVDA</a>) shares are trading lower on Monday after Huawei announced it&#8217;s preparing a new artificial intelligence (AI) chip as an alternative <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/04/44897966/huawei-prepares-for-bulk-shipment-of-new-advanced-ai-chip-as-china-seeks-nvidia-alternatives">to Nvidia&#8217;s H20 line</a>.
The Details: Huawei plans to begin shipping its advanced 910C AI chip to customers in China as soon as next month, according to Reuters. The chip achieves performance on par with Nvidia's H100 chip by using two 910B processors combined into a single unit through advanced integration methods.
Last week, President Donald Trump's administration <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/global/25/04/44828742/nvidia-stock-is-tumbling-after-hours-heres-why">introduced licensing requirements</a> for the sale of Nvidia&#8217;s H20 chips to China. A license will also be required for any chips that match the H20's memory bandwidth, interconnect bandwidth or a combination of both.
Nvidia shares may be lower as investors assess the competitive threat posed by Huawei and its novel chip. The recent export restrictions on Nvidia's H20 chips may also be fueling concerns about the company's ability to maintain its foothold in the Chinese market.
What Else: Deteriorating U.S.-China trade relations continue to weigh on the stock as well. For instance, the Trump administration has imposed a <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/04/44888445/ford-reportedly-halts-vehicle-shipments-to-china-amid-rising-tariffs">wide range of tariffs</a> on China. In response, China has filed a complaint with the World Trade Organization.
Trump has now raised concerns about escalating tariffs, warning that they could further strain U.S.-China trade relations.
Such tensions add uncertainty for companies like Nvidia that rely on the Chinese market, where higher tariffs and regulatory hurdles could hurt sales and long-term growth.

Schwab, who is entering his 88th year, informed the Board of Trustees of his decision, effective immediately.

At an extraordinary meeting on 20 April, the Board of Trustees <a target="_blank" href="https://www.weforum.org/press/2025/04/world-economic-forum-announces-governance-transition/" rel="noreferrer noopener">noted</a> Klaus Schwab&#8217;s resignation. In accordance with the Forum&#8217;s Rules and Regulations, the Board unanimously appointed Vice Chairman Peter Brabeck-Letmathe as Chairman ad interim. It also established a Search Committee to select a future Chair.
&#8220;At a time when the world is undergoing rapid transformation, the need for inclusive dialogue to navigate complexity and shape the future has never been more critical. The Board of Trustees of the World Economic Forum underlines the importance of remaining steadfast in its mission and values as a facilitator of progress,&#8221; the institution said in a press release on Monday.
In January, the World Economic Forum <a target="_blank" href="https://www.novartis.com/events/world-economic-forum-annual-meeting-2025" rel="noreferrer noopener">held</a> its Annual Meeting in Davos-Klosters. The event brought together over 350 government leaders, including 60 heads of state and government.
U.S. President Donald Trump made a&nbsp;special address&nbsp;at Davos just three days after being inaugurated as the 47th president.
Trump <a target="_blank" href="https://www.weforum.org/stories/2025/01/davos-2025-special-address-donald-trump-president-united-states/" rel="noreferrer noopener">said</a> his administration is working to fix the &#8216;economic chaos&#8217; and will make the U.S. &#8216;stronger, wealthier and more united than ever before&#8217;.
He added that he would work to bring down oil and gas prices, eliminate regulations, introduce tax cuts for domestic producers, and impose tariffs on foreign goods.
The Wall Street Journal <a target="_blank" href="https://www.wsj.com/business/davos-founder-klaus-schwab-to-step-aside-as-forums-chair-0f3231b0" rel="noreferrer noopener">reports</a> that the World Economic Forum has been making leadership changes recently after the Board reviewed the results of a workplace culture investigation.
The probe followed a Journal article last year in which employees accused the organization of discriminating against women and Black people.
The Forum denied the report, and founder Klaus Schwab rejected the claims against him.
In a recent memo, CEO Børge Brende said the investigation didn&#8217;t confirm the allegations against Schwab but did highlight leadership issues that the Forum plans to address.
A spokesperson told WSJ that the Forum is now looking for a new chair and plans to complete the process by January 2027.
Several top executives are leaving, including Chief Legal Officer Nicola Port, tech and digital services head Malte Godbersen, and Managing Director Olivier Schwab, the founder&#8217;s son. His daughter Nicole Schwab also left the Forum in December.
The WSJ report added, citing a staff memo, that two senior managing directors—Saadia Zahidi and Jeremy Jurgens—had some of their duties reduced as part of a recent reorganization.
&#8220;Over these past months, we have taken time—time to pause, to listen, and to reflect,&#8221; Brende said in the memo. &#8220;This period of reflection has been grounded in a desire not just to do things differently, but to do them better.&#8221;

<li>KeyBanc analyst Justin Patterson maintained an Overweight rating and raised the price target from $1,000 to $1,070.</li>
<li>Benchmark analyst Matthew Harrigan maintained a Hold rating with no price target.</li>
<li>Needham analyst Laura Martain maintained a Buy rating with a $1,126 price target.</li>
<li>Wedbush analyst Alician Reese reiterated an Outperform rating and raised the price target from $1,150 to $1,200.</li>
</ul>
Macquarie: Advertising monetization could give Netflix a competitive advantage, Compton said in a new investor note.
"Mgmt confirmed they are not seeing a slowdown or pullback in add spend given recent macro uncertainty," he said.
Future catalysts for Netflix include further price increases and the company's upcoming content slate, Compton added. "Its ad-tier represents a broadened and deepened that comfortably paves multi-year double-digit top line growth."

JPMorgan: The streaming company is "playing offense," while its stock remains defensive, Anmuth said in a new investor note.
The analyst said Netflix's first-quarter financial results and outlook were "solid" and point to confidence in the 2025 full-year results.
Anmuth said that double-digit revenue growth supports Netflix&#8217;s bull thesis. He also cited operating margin expansion, improving profit and cash content discipline, a strong leadership position, and the company's potential to become a global TV company with international expansion.
"We believe NFLX is a key beneficiary and driver of the ongoing disruption of linear TV, with Netflix's content performing well globally and driving a virtuous circle of strong subscriber growth, more revenue, and growing profit," Anmuth said.
KeyBanc: The streaming giant highlighted its minimal impact from tariffs and macroeconomic concerns along with strength for its advertising business, Patterson said in a new investor note.
"Netflix's 1Q results reinforced that the Company is relatively insulated from the macro, has 2H catalysts (Stranger Things, Wednesday), and a margin cushion," Patterson said.
The analyst said ad personalization is still in the early innings and Netflix should benefit from its ad-tech platform going forward.
"We believe Netflix is poised for more balanced growth between subscribers and monetization over the MT."
Benchmark: Harrigan said in a new investor note that Netflix shares could be fairly valued despite the bulls&#8217; proposition that they are a safe-haven stock.
The analyst said the stock may provide a buffer against Trump tariffs and global recession, but has limited upside to the stock price.
"Given management's decision not to continue reporting quarterly member tallies we have now pivoted our primary valuation sensitivity to realized 2030 revenue and operating margins," Harrigan said.
Harrigan said Netflix would be "considerably overvalued" if traded as a media company.
Needham: The streaming giant faced more questions about advertising given it no longer breaks out subscriber figures or paid member growth, Martin said in a new analyst note.
"NFLX stated that it has seen no meaningful changes in retention, churn, or plan mix owing to tariffs or a slowing economy," Martin said.
The analyst said Netflix sees its ad-tier ($7.99/month) as a defensive move to keep churn low. The company said it expects advertising revenue to double in 2025.
Martin said the things to like the most about Netflix are global scale, price increases, bundling with other services and advertising revenue growth accelerating. Wedbush: With a "virtually insurmountable lead in the streaming wars," Netflix gets a price target increase from Reese in a new investor note.
The analyst said Netflix's first-quarter results likely came with higher subscriber additions and revenue per member, despite the company no longer sharing these figures.
"Even with higher pricing, offering its members a vast library of original and licensed content and the option to trade down to less expensive tiers has significantly limited churn," Reese said.
Reese said Netflix is also positioned to boost its ad-tier with live events and improved advertising solutions.
"While massive subscribers growth was the primary driver in 2024, we expect price increases to drive revenue growth in 2025, and the ad tier to drive revenue higher in 2026."
Price Action: Netflix stock is up 2.6% to $998.74 on Monday versus a 52-week trading range of $542.01 to $1,064.50. Netflix stock is up 12.6% year-to-date in 2025.

Netflix 'Playing Offense' While Stock Plays Defense: 6 Analysts On Q1 Results, Advertising Growth Ahead

Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) briefly tapped $88,000 in Monday trading, eliciting bullish calls from traders that cite a strong high-timeframe structure and <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/money/bitcoin-price-prediction">improving macro backdrop</a>.
What Happened: Crypto trader Astronomer <a href="https://x.com/astronomer_zero/status/1914332318841622646">flagged</a> the move as significant, calling $88,000 a key target from his original bottom thesis. 
Despite hitting this milestone, he has not opened short positions, citing a lack of meaningful sell walls, ongoing order book strength and continued whale-led accumulation.
Astronomer says the only short trigger would be a sweep of $88,700, signs of whale distribution and local top signals. 
He expects any potential reversal to appear by Tuesday or Wednesday, ideally confirmed with a bearish weekly close. Until then, he's riding spot longs and is open to reloading at midrange levels.

Nachi maintains a bullish thesis, backed by the BTC/gold ratio holding strong, high-timeframe bullish structure, early signs of Bitcoin decoupling from equities, a weaker dollar amid fragile macro conditions and renewed central bank liquidity injection. 
What's Next: Nachi's base case is that Summer 2025 (April–August) could be the most bullish stretch, marking a pivot from maximum bearishness to easing macro trends. 
Rate cuts, stimulus measures, and softer trade policy could further fuel upside.
He notes one caveat: if Trump reverses his tariff stance by June, the bullish macro narrative could stall, but until then, the trend looks up.
