The National Football League is shopping some of its media assets and Paramount Global (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/PARA#NASDAQ">PARA</a>) (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/PARAA#NASDAQ">PARAA</a>) could be a winner thanks to its <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/entertainment/24/09/40754610/paramount-to-be-controlled-by-worlds-sixth-richest-man-larry-ellison-how-helping-his-son-la">pending merger with Skydance Media.</a>
What Happened: The National Football League&#8217;s <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/sports-betting/24/05/38909548/2024-nfl-schedule-unpacked-media-partners-win-taylor-swift-tour-dates-considered-new-betti" target="_blank" rel="noopener">media partners,</a> including Paramount's CBS broadcast network and Paramount+ streaming platform, have benefited from strong viewership in recent years.
The NFL is in talks with Skydance Media and RedBird Capital Partners, who is an investor in Skydance, over the league's media assets, according to a report from <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2024-10-03/nfl-is-in-talks-with-ellison-s-skydance-redbird-about-deals?sref=TBDibEcD">Bloomberg</a>.
The talks include the sale of NFL Media and the NFL Network cable channel, and could also include an acquisition of the league's interest in Skydance Sports by Paramount Global, Bloomberg reports. Skydance Sports is a joint venture between the NFL and Skydance.  
The NFL invested $45 million in Skydance Sports in 2022 and has partnered with the media company on "Hard Knocks" and other content. Skydance Sports is also producing an upcoming documentary series on Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.
RedBird is also a partner with the NFL on EverPass Media, which helps the league distribute NFL Sunday Ticket to bars and restaurants.
Why It's Important: Paramount's partnership with the NFL includes a change of control provision that could allow the NFL to look for another media partner if the company sees its control change hands, which Paramount investors could closely watch.
Paramount&#8217;s discussions with the NFL regarding NFL Media assets and potentially the Skydance Sports rights could show an early sign of cooperation between the league and media company despite the provision.
Paramount currently pays over $2 billion annually to the NFL. While the NFL likely won't shop for a new partner, it could look to get more out of Paramount and Skydance with the latest talks, a potential win-win.
The report said talks between the NFL and ESPN, a unit of The Walt Disney Company (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/DIS#NYSE">DIS</a>), have stalled.
ESPN was previously in talks with the NFL about acquiring the NFL Media assets, including the NFL Network and NFL RedZone. Reports said the league wanted an ownership stake in ESPN, but it is unclear if that led to talks stalling.
NFL viewership<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/sports-betting/24/09/41056777/nfl-week-4-betting-odds-national-tv-games-will-daniel-jones-stay-winless-on-thursdays-how-"> has been strong</a> in the 2024 season, with an average of 17.9 million viewers per game <a href="https://frontofficesports.com/nfl-ratings-surge-in-september-with-chiefs-in-four-of-top-five-games/">through </a>the first four weeks of the season, up 4% year-over-year. The viewership marks the best start to the NFL season since 2015.
With strong viewership for NFL games, Paramount would likely jump at the opportunity to get more content if the price is right.
PARA Price Action: Paramount stock trades at $10.46 versus a 52-week trading range of $9.54 to $17.50. Paramount stock is down 28% year-to-date in 2024.

Could Paramount Gain Additional NFL Content Through Skydance Merger? New Report Indicates ESPN Talks Stalled

Colin Cowherd, the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/sports">sports </a>commentator known for his elaborate analogies, dropped a new one on his listeners earlier this week: the Detroit Lions are like your relative that won't <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/crypto">stop talking about cryptocurrency</a>. 
Here's how Cowherd arrived at this take.
Cowherd, on his show The Herd, explained that Lions head coach Dan Campbell has turned the team around by being a "rah-rah" guy. Now it's time for him to transition into being a "situationally elite guy.&#8221; 
Now that the Lions are winning, Campbell may need to adjust his coaching style, Cowheard added. 
"You're like the family member that finally got their act together," Cowherd said. "Everybody's happy for him, but you still wouldn't trust him taking your kids to Disneyland. That&#8217;s what the Lions have become. Hey, congratulations, you're not vaping anymore. But I would appreciate it if everytime you come over you don't go into a 30-minute lecture on crypto."

When Campbell took over as head coach of the Lions in 2021, he quickly became one of the most aggressive coaches in the league. When the Lions started 0-10-1 in Campbell's first season, he didn't have much to lose. Fake punts and going for it on fourth down became the norm in Detroit. But, since the team's turnaround, the Lions find themselves in unfamiliar territory. They&#8217;re the favorites in nearly every one of their games. "Detroit's in this transition stage like Dan Campbell created a tough culture and deserves respect," Cowherd said. "But he has to transition from rah-rah guy to situationally elite guy like an [Kansas City Chiefs&#8217;] Andy Reid."
Campbell's aggressive play calls were in focus last season when the Lions lost in the NFC Championship game against the San Francisco 49ers. At the end of the first half, Campbell elected to kick a field goal from San Fran's 3-yard line to go up 24-7. The conservative call to take the points seemed rare for Campbell. But, in the second half, Campbell went for it twice on fourth down, failing to convert each time. The Lions ultimately fell to the 49ers by 3 points. 
Cowherd finished the clip saying that he's rooting for the Lions, but doesn't trust them.
Cowherd left Walt Disney Co&#8217;s (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/DIS#NYSE">DIS</a>) ESPN in 2015 to join Fox Corp&#8217;s (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/FOXA#NYSE">FOXA</a>) Fox Sports.

The highly anticipated vice-presidential debate between J.D. Vance and Tim Walz was watched by 43.2 million as one of the key television events ahead of the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/2024-election">2024 presidential election.</a>
Here's a look at how the viewership compares to other debates and which media networks had the highest figures.
What Happened: Tuesday night's<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cryptocurrency/24/09/41107455/walz-vs-vance-vp-debate-betting-odds-what-candidate-is-favored-plus-how-to-watch-likely-to"> vice-presidential debate </a>could be the final debate for the presidential and vice-presidential candidates, with just over a month until voting day.
Hosted by Paramount Global (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/PARA#NASDAQ">PARA</a>) (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/PARAA#NASDAQ">PARAA</a>) owned CBS News, the debate was 90 minutes with several commercial breaks.
According <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/vance-walz-vp-debate-tv-ratings-1236022692/">to </a>The Hollywood Reporter, 43.15 million people watched the vice-presidential debate across 15 networks.
Tuesday's viewership was down 25.2% from the total of 57.92 million for the 2020 vice presidential debate, which featured Mike Pence and Kamala Harris.
The official viewership figure could be bad news for those who bet on the total on prediction market Polymarket. The odds for 40 million to 45 million viewers stood at 14%, while the odds for under 40 million were 18%. When combined, this gave a 32% chance that the debate would draw 45 million or fewer viewers, making it a less likely outcome compared to higher estimates like 60 million and above.
On Polymarket, users can deposit funds using USDC (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/">USDC</a>) via the Polygon (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/matic/usd">MATIC</a>) network, or directly from a crypto account with Ethereum (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/eth/usd">ETH</a>). In each betting market, the winning option pays out at $1.
The last 11 vice-presidential debates (1976 through 2020) have averaged around 46.5 million viewers, with no debate taking place in 1980. This year's vice-presidential debate ranked below the historical average.
The 2008 vice-presidential debate between Joe Biden and Sarah Palin was the most watched, with 69.9 million viewers. The 1996 vice-presidential debate between Al Gore and Jack Kemp saw a low of 26.6 million viewers.
Two presidential debates have taken place in 2024 with a <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/politics/24/06/39563409/heres-how-many-people-watched-the-2024-presidential-debate-and-how-fox-beat-cnn-at-its-own-game">June debate between</a> Biden and Donald Trump having 51.3 million viewers and a September debate between Harris and Trump <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/entertainment/24/09/40840076/trump-vs-harris-presidential-debate-viewership-tops-trump-biden-total-but-falls-short-of-re">having 67.1 million viewers.</a>
The 2024 viewership failed to reach the same levels as the 73.1 million viewers who tuned in for the only 2020 presidential debate between Biden and Trump.
The first debate between Hillary Clinton and Trump in 2016 set a record with 84 million viewers. Two additional debates saw 66.5 million and 71.6 million viewers, respectively, ranking among the most-watched presidential debates ever.

Media Winners: The report said the majority of the 43.15 million viewers came from the Big Four broadcast networks and the three largest cable news outlets.
Around 90% of the viewers were split between FOX, CBS, ABC, NBC, CNN, Fox News and MSNBC.
While CBS was the host of the debate, they allowed simulcasting of the event.

<li>NBC, owned by Comcast Corporation (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CMCSA#NASDAQ">CMCSA</a>): 5.67 million viewers</li>
<li>MSNBC, owned by Comcast: 4.88 million viewers</li>
<li>CNN, owned by Warner Bros. Discovery (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/WBD#NASDAQ">WBD</a>): 3.37 million viewers</li>

The rest of the viewership was split between various media outlets, according to the report.
CBS was the likely winner of the debate as the host and with the highest viewership. With the commercial breaks, the media network was likely able to charge a premium for advertising space.
The media network could also benefit from an upcoming "60 Minutes"<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/entertainment/24/09/41011819/trump-harris-could-appear-in-back-to-back-60-minutes-interviews-could-paramount-stock-be-a-"> election special airing </a>Monday Oct. 7 at 8 p.m. ET. The special will feature an interview with Harris, with <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/10/41133540/trump-backs-out-of-planned-60-minutes-interview-ex-presidents-campaign-says-cbs-asked-for-unpreceden">Trump backing out</a> of an appearance on the episode.
Fox could also be a winner, as it has not hosted any of its own debates, but its viewership figures for the simulcast broadcasts on Fox News and the Fox broadcast channel have performed well.

Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Hit By Philippine's New 12% Tax On Digital Providers

Shaquille O'Neal could be the latest legend to join Fortnite, putting the NBA star on the same level of <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/top-stories/24/08/40322467/disney-characters-join-fortnite-in-latest-collaboration-with-epic-games">movie characters and superheroes.</a>
What Happened: Internet leaks predict that O'Neal (aka Shaq) could get the Fortnite Icon series treatment in the<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/fortnite"> popular online video game </a>with the potential of skins and accessories coming Saturday, Oct. 4.
Leakers, like <a href="https://x.com/ShiinaBR/status/1841124523166290311">ShiinaBR</a>, have pointed to Fortnite data files showing upcoming skins and themes based on O'Neal and the movie characters Billy from the Saw franchise and Leatherface from the Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise.
O&#8217;Neal, one of the best-known National Basketball Association players of all time, earned a long list of nicknames over the years. In addition to &#8220;Shaq,&#8221; there could be multiple variations of O'Neal that appear in the game, including Diesel, Shaq Fu, Superman and DJ Diesel, his musician persona.
Performing as DJ Diesel, O'Neal may have teased the collaboration with Fortnite, sharing a video at a concert that showed a potential virtual version of himself in the game. 
O'Neal also captioned a TikTok video of his performance with "Toronto…last night was EPIC," putting EPIC in all caps as a potential play on Epic Games, along with a winking face emoji.
O'Neal's collaboration with Fortnite could include skins, accessories, sound clips and a potential musical performance as DJ Diesel, as <a href="https://gamerant.com/fortnite-leak-nba-legend-shaquille-shaq-oneal/">reported </a>by Game Rant. 
Epic Games and O'Neal have not confirmed anything yet, leaving gamers to decipher the leaks and hints from the former NBA's stars social media posts.

NBA Legend Shaq Coming To Fortnite? Leaks Show Skins, Accessories, And A Potential DJ Diesel Performance

Media giant The Walt Disney Company (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/DIS#NYSE">DIS</a>) scored a box office hit with "Inside Out 2," a movie that could also help the company's streaming segment for <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/entertainment/24/09/41034366/disney-stock-could-benefit-from-box-office-strength-streaming-analyst-says-dtc-set-for-cont">the fourth quarter.</a>
What Happened: When Disney reports fourth-quarter financial results, which are currently expected in November, the company might mention <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/entertainment/24/06/39367160/disney-scores-box-office-hit-with-inside-out-2-could-shareholders-be-feeling-more-joy-and-l">the success of its hit sequel </a>"Inside Out 2" many times.
The movie was released in theaters on June 14, which was in the company's third quarter, but a good portion of the box office success will come in the fourth-quarter financial results.
"Inside Out 2" also recently premiered on Disney+ on Sept. 25, which is part of the company's fourth quarter. The movie's streaming premiere may help Disney+ subscriber numbers trend up in the quarter.

A quick look at the betting odds shows three of the five undefeated 3–0 teams are underdogs in Week 4 with the Vikings, Bills and Seahawks all predicted to lose by sportsbooks. The other undefeated teams, the Steelers and Chiefs, are favored by 1.5 and 7 points in their respective matches.
With no 3–0 teams playing each other, the week could once again end with five unbeaten teams.
There are three 0-3 teams (Titans, Jaguars and Bengals). None of the three teams play each other, which means each NFL team could have a win after Week 4. The Bengals are the only favorite of the three teams this week.
The Cowboys&#8217; and Giants&#8217; opening game stands out to bettors based on one interesting trend. Starting Giants quarterback Daniel Jones, a first-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, has never won a non-Sunday NFL game. Jones is 0-5 on <a href="https://www.statmuse.com/nfl/ask/daniel-jones-record-on-thursday-night-football">Thursdays </a>and 0-7 on <a href="https://www.statmuse.com/nfl/ask/daniel-jones-record-on-monday-night-football">Mondays</a>. Jones is also 1-13 in NFL Primetime games.
Two big betting trends have emerged for the current NFL season: heavy favorites are unable to cover the spread, and the public's favorite bets are struggling.
Sports betting reporter Ben Fawkes <a href="https://x.com/BFawkes22/status/1839329630991343875">said </a>underdogs of 5.5 points or more are against the spread and 10-4 overall. The Jets, 49ers, Texans and Chiefs are all favored by more than six points.

NFL Week 4 Betting Odds, National TV Games: Will Daniel Jones Stay Winless On Thursdays, How Many 3-0 Teams Will Stay Perfect?

Hurricane Helene is on track to hit Florida and the Gulf Coast region Thursday night in what could be one of the most powerful storms to strike the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/hurricane">regions in decades.</a>
Here's a look at the regions most affected, and how the hurricane is impacting travel, sports, and key stocks to watch.
Hurricane Path: Hurricane Helene <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/09/41028566/tropical-storm-helene-set-to-become-hurricane-generac-duke-energy-stocks-react-as-florida-braces">could hit and impact</a> several major cities in Florida and the nearby states, including Tampa, Tallahassee and Atlanta.
Currently a Category 2 hurricane, the storm could be elevated to a Category 3 or Category 4 storm in the coming hours and days. The hurricane is expected to be one of the largest storms in the region over the last century, as <a href="https://www.cnn.com/weather/live-news/hurricane-helene-florida-09-26-24/index.html">reported </a>by CNN.
Over three million people in Florida and Georgia are currently under a Tornado Watch until 10 p.m. ET Thursday night.
A CNN meteorologist predicts that peak wind could reach over 100 mph in some regions Thursday and Friday, with rainfall of up to 12 inches in certain areas.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis warned of the potential that Hurricane Helene could shift its path and could hit Tallahassee, the state's capital. Tallahassee has never been directly hit by a Category 3 hurricane.
"This area has not had a major hurricane hit in quite some time, and certainly nobody in recent memory has seen a storm of this magnitude that has hit," DeSantis said, as reported by CNN.
While the worst of the storm will likely be felt in Florida and Georgia, the storm's path, which could increase in size, is expected to travel through portions of Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky, Missouri, and Illinois, with the non-Florida states getting hit on Friday and Saturday.

Stocks to Watch: Among the sectors that could be hit by the hurricane is the airline industry, with over 1,000 flights canceled Thursday at several Florida airports.
Southwest Airlines (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/LUV#NYSE">LUV</a>) was listed as the airline with the most impact on the region by CNN, with the potential for its flights to resume Friday morning. The company has waived change fees for flights to other regions and airports to help travelers.
Florida is a key region for many theme parks, including Disney World, the popular theme park from The Walt Disney Company (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/DIS#NYSE">DIS</a>). Disney World has announced some park experiences have been closed due to the hurricane, but the theme park remains open. Disney World has closed for several hurricanes over the years, as <a href="https://www.tallahassee.com/story/news/2024/09/26/hurricane-helene-florida-theme-parks-closed-open-disney-universal-orlando/75389447007/">reported </a>by Tallahassee Democrat. Hurricane Ian in September 2022 was the last time Disney World fully closed.
United Parks &amp; Resorts (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/PRKS#NYSE">PRKS</a>) closed Busch Gardens Tampa Bay and several water parks it owns in the region, while SeaWorld Orlando remains open Thursday.
Insurance stocks will likely be on watch, with the damage from the storm causing potential billions of dollars in damage. Stocks like Berkshire Hathaway Inc (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BRK#NYSE">BRK</a>)(NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BRK#NYSE">BRK</a>), Allstate Corporation (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/ALL#NYSE">ALL</a>) and Travelers Companies (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TRV#NYSE">TRV</a>) could see heavy claims from customers after the storm.
Duke Energy (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/DUK#NYSE">DUK</a>) is a larger operator in Florida and could see interest from investors as the storm damage and power outages are assessed.
While the stocks above could be negatively affected by the hurricane, several stocks could be viewed as winners from storm damage and prolonged power outages.
Generac Holdings (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GNRC#NYSE">GNRC</a>) is often viewed as a hurricane stock thanks to its sale of generators and power equipment. Generac shares are up 7% in the last five days, in possible anticipation of the impact of Hurricane Helene.
Home improvement retailers Home Depot (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/HD#NYSE">HD</a>) and Lowe's Companies (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/LOW#NYSE">LOW</a>) could see a positive impact from repairs needed to homes in the region and see their quarterly results reflect the increased sales, depending on the storm&#8217;s size.
Sports Impact: The early impact of the storm was witnessed in the sports world Wednesday, with Major League Baseball cancelling the Atlanta Braves (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BATRA#NASDAQ">BATRA</a>) and New York Mets contests set for Wednesday and Thursday. The games will now be played in a doubleheader Monday, <a href="https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/41442218/mets-braves-games-wednesday-thursday-postponed-monday-doubleheader">extending </a>the MLB regular season.
The games are pivotal in the current fight for the National League Wild Card race to secure a postseason berth. The Mets (87-70) currently lead the Braves (86-71) in the Wild Card race. It's possible that Monday's games could decide which team makes it into the MLB Playoffs. For the Mets, the team could see a tough travel schedule if they do make the playoffs, flying into Atlanta on Monday and then flying to Milwaukee or the West Coast for a first-round matchup that would start on Tuesday.
Several NCAA Football games could be <a href="https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaaf/2024/09/24/hurricane-helene-college-football-schedule-impact/75369720007/">impacted </a>by the hurricane over the weekend. The Miami Hurricanes&#8217; home game on Friday could be postponed. UCF&#8217;s home game on Saturday will also be monitored. The highly anticipated Alabama and Georgia game set to play in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, on Saturday could also be impacted by heavy rain and winds.
The National Football League is also monitoring the storm and its impact on games scheduled for Sunday and Monday. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Atlanta Falcons, and Carolina Panthers are currently set to host home games at 1 p.m. ET Sunday. The Miami Dolphins host a Monday Night Football game that is also being monitored.

Hurricane Helene Disrupts Flights, Sports Events, Disney Operations: Affected Regions, Stocks To Watch

Needham analyst Laura Martin reiterated a Buy rating for Walt Disney Co (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/DIS#NYSE">DIS</a>) with a <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/DIS/analyst-ratings" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">$110&nbsp;price target</a>.
The re-rating is based on:
• Direct to Consumer&nbsp;(DTC)&nbsp;breakeven in fiscal 2024 with &#8220;double-digit&#8221; margins at maturity.
• 5.5 million to 6 million new subscribers from Charter Communications, Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CHTR#NASDAQ">CHTR</a>) starting in the second half of fiscal 2024.
• Disney&#8217;s $1.5 billion investment in Epic Games (to build Disney video games).

Longer-term, Martin noted Disney&#8217;s asset mix of both digital and physical assets (i.e., an Omniverse) maximizes its economic value capture, that Disney benefits from generative AI and the company will be a takeover target by the Big Tech companies backed by its streaming moat and high-quality content libraries with hit film and TV franchises.

Martin lowered her fourth-quarter operating income and EPS estimates. Disney&#8217;s new fourth-quarter estimates are revenue of $22.2 billion, operating income of $3.6 billion, and adjusted EPS of $1.07.
Martin maintained her Entertainment revenue estimate of $10.6 billion. She cut her estimate for Linear Networks by 10% to $2.4 billion, reflecting continued linear subscriber declines in the quarter and the Disney carriage dispute with DirecTV exactly offset by higher box office revs for &#8220;Deadpool &amp; Wolverine&#8221; in the Content Sales segment. Martin estimates the operating income for this division to be $665 million.
Martin maintained her estimates for Sports revenues at $3.8 billion but raised her estimated operating income by 11% to $922 million, reflecting momentum and cadence in this division, evidenced in the third quarter. Martin maintained her revenue estimate for Experiences of $8.2 billion but cut her estimate for operating income by 13% to $1.7 billion to reflect the guidance of losses in the &#8220;mid-single digits.&#8221;
