With only days remaining until President Donald Trump&#8217;s self-imposed <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/politics/25/06/46156587/trump-says-july-tariff-deadline-not-set-in-stone-we-can-do-whatever-we-want">July 9 tariff deadline</a>, the world trade scene resembles more of a geopolitical roulette table than a negotiation process. Although Trump&#8217;s return to tariff diplomacy has reignited diplomatic turmoil and corporate jitters, ETF investors seem to be playing it cool, at least for now.
In typical Trumpian style, the U.S. President has threatened broad new tariffs for dozens of nations that don&#8217;t come to framework deals within a week. But the frameworks unveiled so far, such as with the UK and China, have been short on substance and long on optics, <a href="https://finance.yahoo.com/news/trump-deals-poised-fall-short-200000167.html?guccounter=1&amp;guce_referrer=aHR0cHM6Ly9maW5hbmNlLnlhaG9vLmNvbS8&amp;guce_referrer_sig=AQAAAEULTOijSzPIUaM76ZtXMwuZstTO6Gs_v7AfYKLFpUVM4Steqh_vRi2Rov9Y-iYtoQCOXC3Y-OqA4Jw69CatX_-Dm8eeHYOkjbQGpOtqF7n8HfztsM-BX-_bexkQJ4DrwPmsmyKLDRwBseGfLZCVVRY921fP07UjhmhAjeZfj14t">according</a> to Bloomberg. And while volatility typically follows trade tensions, the markets are responding with an unusual resilience. So are ETF performances.
As it happens, investors might be putting their money on the &#8220;TACO&#8221; theory, short for &#8220;Trump Always Chickens Out,&#8221; a sarcastic acronym that has gained traction on trading desks to characterize his style of issuing bold threats and then backing down.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Global Trade In The Crosshairs&#8230;Again</h2>
The stakes are high. From Canada and the EU to Taiwan and India, a broad swath of nations is at risk of getting their tariffs increased unless they negotiate deals or are considered to be &#8220;negotiating in good faith.&#8221; Trump has warned that tariffs could climb from the 10% baseline to as much as 25%. He has even suggested he might act before the July 9 deadline.
The White House has been sending mixed signals. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick claimed the administration is aiming for "top 10 deals" with key partners. Meanwhile, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that nearly 20 countries may face immediate tariff hikes. Canada, for its part, has already blinked—backing off a digital services tax to get back to the table.
However, even as Trump ignites the trade universe with 280-character warnings, the ETF universe has remained relatively calm.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">ETF Investors: Not Panicked, But Cautious</h2>
Here&#8217;s what the ETF market action indicates:
Nation-specific ETFs that are correlated to stalled negotiations like iShares MSCI India ETF (BATS:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/INDA#BATS">INDA</a>), iShares MSCI Taiwan ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/EWT#NYSE">EWT</a>) and Global X FTSE Southeast Asia ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/ASEA#NYSE">ASEA</a>) have experienced a combination of speculative investments and defensive holding based on Trump&#8217;s rhetoric. Nonetheless, all three prices are in the green so far this year.
China&#8217;s exposure is still delicate. KraneShares CSI China Internet ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/KWEB#NYSE">KWEB</a>) is up more than 3% in June, but has been volatile amid speculation about whether tariffs on rare earths and digital products will be reinstated.
Safe havens and commodities are in style again. SPDR Gold Shares (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GLD#NYSE">GLD</a>) has recorded some of its most significant monthly advances since February, indicating investors are hedging against policy misfires.
If Trump follows through on blanket tariff increases, the shakeout would be rapid.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Potential ETF Winners</h2>
Domestic-centric ETFs, such as iShares Russell 2000 ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/IWM#NYSE">IWM</a>) and Utilities Select Sector SPDR Fund (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/XLU#NYSE">XLU</a>), may benefit from a rotation away from export-oriented companies.
Gold and bond ETFs, such as GLD, may experience inflows as investors scramble for safety following a policy shock.
India and Southeast Asia ETFs, such as INDA and ASEA, could become popular if the U.S. solidifies its relationships with these countries as part of its &#8220;friendshoring&#8221; initiative.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Likely Losers</h2>
Export-oriented ETFs, such as the Industrial Select Sector SPDR Fund (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/XLI#NYSE">XLI</a>) and the Materials Select Sector SPDR Fund (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/XLB#NYSE">XLB</a>), are heavily dependent on cross-border supply chains.
European nation ETFs, like iShares MSCI Germany ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/EWG#NYSE">EWG</a>), iShares MSCI United Kingdom ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/EWU#NYSE">EWU</a>), and iShares MSCI Eurozone ETF (BATS:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/EZU#BATS">EZU</a>), may experience volatility if the EU fails to reach an agreement by the deadline.
Global exposure tech sector ETFs, such as the Technology Select Sector SPDR Fund (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/XLK#NYSE">XLK</a>), could come under increased pressure if digital services taxes persist as an ongoing obstacle.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Markets Playing Chicken?</h2>
Equity markets have not yet fully priced in the possibility of Armageddon. The <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/economic-data/25/06/46124290/sp-500-hits-record-highs-and-history-says-the-best-is-yet-to-come">S&amp;P 500 is still at record levels</a>. Volatility is low (VIX at 16.74). And ETF investors appear to be hedging, not running for the hills.
As the tariff countdown continues, ETF investors are closely monitoring, though not yet bailing out. Whether Trump adheres to the deadline or drags out the anarchy into late July is anybody&#8217;s guess.
For the time being, the smart money is wagering on still more &#8220;deal theater,&#8221; tastefully staged for maximum political impact. But as always with Trump, a single tweet could upend everything.

What To Know: The move in Galaxy Digital shares comes after Fundstrat&#8217;s head of digital asset strategy, Sean Farrell, labeled Galaxy as "one to watch" in a<a href="https://x.com/fundstrat/status/1939419762729091304"> June 26 note</a> that linked AI-driven M&amp;A activity and U.S. fiscal policy trends to a more favorable outlook for names like Galaxy Digital. The commentary, which also referenced the potential CoreWeave acquisition of Core Scientific, reinforced Galaxy's strategic relevance as a digital infrastructure player.
The stock potentially gained further attention over the weekend after Tom Lee of Fundstrat mentioned Galaxy in a public post, fueling speculation that Galaxy may be included in Fundstrat's <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/GRNY">Granny Shots ETF</a>.

In a quarter that began with fears of a tech wreck following President Donald Trump&#8216;s sweeping tariff announcements, Wall Street&#8217;s tech darlings pushed sector benchmarks to one of their strongest quarterly gains on record, reigniting optimism for <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/tech">a continued summer rally</a>.
The Technology Select Sector SPDR Fund (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/XLK#NYSE">XLK</a>), which tracks the broader tech sector, soared 22% during the second quarter of 2025. 
That marked its best quarterly performance since the second quarter of 2020, when central banks pumped liquidity into the system to combat the COVID-19 crisis, and its second-best quarter since the aftermath of the dot-com collapse in 2002.
From the April lows—hit just after Trump&#8217;s tariff policies were unveiled—the XLK has rocketed 45%, registering its strongest 13-week rally since June 2020 and second-best since the ETF was launched in 1998.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">5 Stocks Drove Over Half Of XLK&#8217;s Historic Rally</h2>
Five stocks were responsible for about two thirds of the tech sector&#8217;s total return during the quarter.

<li>Nvidia Corp. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NVDA#NASDAQ">NVDA</a>) was the single most important contributor. Shares of the AI darling jumped 43.2%, contributing 537 basis points, or 5.37%, to XLK&#8217;s quarterly performance thanks to its 14.6% weight. </li>
<li>Microsoft Corp. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MSFT#NYSE">MSFT</a>) followed closely. With a 14.24% weighting, it added 420 basis points to the index through a 31.8% price gain.</li>
<li>Broadcom Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AVGO#NASDAQ">AVGO</a>) climbed 62.2%, contributing 229 basis points to the sector performance. </li>
<li>Oracle Corp. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/ORCL#NASDAQ">ORCL</a>) delivered a 56.5% return in the quarter, driving 154 basis points of performance for XLK.</li>
<li>Palantir Technologies Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/PLTR#NYSE">PLTR</a>) rocketed 59.7%, responsible for 141 basis points of the sector&#8217;s rise. The rally coincides with the software company&#8217;s expansive role within the Trump administration (Palantir <a href="https://sam.gov/opp/f71acee6010c423db4902446a59a690c/view" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">received</a> a <a href="https://www.fpds.gov/ezsearch/fpdsportal?q=PIID:%2270CTD022FR0000170%22&amp;s=FPDS.GOV&amp;templateName=1.5.3&amp;indexName=awardfull&amp;x=0&amp;y=0&amp;sortBy=SIGNED_DATE&amp;desc=Y" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">$30 million</a> contract to develop a tracking platform to aid Immigration and Customs Enforcement).</li>
</ul>
Together, these five stocks delivered 14.81 percentage points, accounting for nearly 67% of the XLK's total quarterly return.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">What To Expect For Tech Stocks In Q3? History Says: Watch July</h2>
While the third quarter is generally positive for tech, the gains tend to show up early. 
According to Seasonax data, looking at last 20 years the XLK has averaged a 2.7% gain from July 1 to October 1, with gains in 14 of those years.
However, recent third quarters haven't been kind. In 2022, the ETF fell 3.9%. In 2023, it dropped 4.5%. In 2024, it slid another 3.7%.
July, on the other hand, tells a different story. 
It's historically the strongest month for tech. XLK has averaged a 2.86% return in July over the past two decades, with gains in 76% of those years.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Golden Cross Signal May Support The Trend</h2>
On June 30, the XLK triggered a golden cross, a bullish technical setup where the 50-day moving average crosses above the 200-day average. It often signals the start of a longer-term uptrend.
A backtest of this strategy—buying on the golden cross and selling on the next death cross—shows solid historical performance since 2009. 
Only one of the nine trades posted a loss. Most produced double-digit returns, particularly during strong bull markets. The latest signal adds another reason to believe this rally could extend through the summer—at least for now.

What To Know: According to a Barron&#8217;s <a href="https://www.barrons.com/articles/plug-power-stock-hydrogen-senate-bill-78dc2566">report</a>, a revised Senate budget bill pushed the construction start deadline for the 45V clean hydrogen production tax credit to December 31, 2027, granting a surprise two-year extension.
This development offers a potential lifeline for the industry, providing up to $3 per kilogram for clean hydrogen production. The extension would likely revive numerous projects that were at risk of cancellation under the previous January 1, 2026, deadline.

Plug Power Stock Surges On Potential Hydrogen Tax Credit Extension

While the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/politics/25/06/46067020/trump-declares-israel-iran-ceasefire-now-in-effect-as-china-warns-of-spiraling-escalation-at-un">ceasefire between Israel and Iran</a> represented a positive development following a tense geopolitical flashpoint, it wasn't without consequence. The agreement between the two warring nations to halt hostilities led to a conspicuous decline in gold, which took down other precious metals, including silver. Subsequently, the miner sector also incurred a correction, with Pan American Silver Corp (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/PAAS#NYSE">PAAS</a>) losing about 5% on Friday. Still, silver's core demand profile could make PAAS stock intriguing.
From a monetary perspective, several experts have pointed to the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/05/45585695/the-golden-ratios-silver-surprise-this-metals-price-could-double">gold-silver ratio</a>, which is a historical measure of how many ounces of silver one ounce of gold can buy. As the theory goes, if the ratio reverts to its long-term average, the silver market could soar. According to Incrementum AG fund manager Ronald-Peter Stöferle, gold at $3,000 would imply a silver price that could reach between $55 and $63 per ounce.
An even more important argument centers on the fundamentals. Silver represents a <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/commodities/25/04/44772281/whats-next-for-silver-after-a-sharp-climb-in-q1-25">key commodity for several emerging industries</a>, including solar panels and electric vehicles. Notably, despite the ongoing economic challenges of the post-pandemic era, <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/04/44755934/us-q1-ev-sales-data-shows-106-yoy-growth-tesla-experiences-decline-but-still-dominates-domestic-ev-sales">EV sales continue to rise</a>, potentially boding well for PAAS stock and the underlying silver industry.
To drive home the case for the precious metal, 2025 will mark the fifth consecutive year of silver supply deficits. Since 2021, silver's cumulative shortfall stands at nearly 800 million ounces — about the size of an entire year's mining production. What options traders are looking for? That would be the conditional probability or the outcome odds across a specific subset of the data. This is the key difference between quantitative analysis and quantified analysis.
For example, a backtest of MACD crossovers may reveal a 60% success rate. However, this ratio is a derivative probability because it covers all instances of the MACD crossover across the length of the dataset. Unfortunately, this ratio doesn't reveal the odds of success when the crossover flashes at the moment of the transaction.
To apply conditional probabilities requires that the dataset speak a unified language, which is where market breadth comes into play. By converting the continuous signal of share prices into a binary code of accumulative and distributive sessions, demand profiles can be segregated into distinct, discrete behavioral states. With this framework, it's easier to extract probabilistic forecasts based on the study of past analogs.
In the past two months, the price action of PAAS stock can be converted as a "4-6-D" sequence: four up weeks, six down weeks, with a negative trajectory across the 10-week period. While this process compresses PAAS' magnitude dynamism, it categorizes the stock's demand profile as distinct behavioral states across 10-week intervals. This way, it's easier to determine forward transitions.

Notably, in 64.29% of cases, the following week's price action results in upside, with a median return of 4.62%. Should the bulls maintain control of the market for a second week, speculators may expect an additional 1.48% of performance to be tacked on.
On Friday, PAAS stock closed at $27.72. If the implications of the 4-6-D pan out, the security could reach $29.43 over the next two to three weeks.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">A Tempting Offer On The Table</h2>
With the above market intelligence, aggressive speculators may consider the 28/29 bull call spread expiring July 18. This transaction involves buying the $28 call and simultaneously selling the $29 call, for a net debit paid of $50 (the most that can be lost in the trade). Should PAAS stock rise through the short strike price ($29) at expiration, the maximum reward is also $50, a payout of 100%.
Primarily, this trade is enticing because of the implied shift in sentiment regime of the 4-6-D sequence. As a baseline (from the same January 2019 starting point), the chance that a long position in PAAS stock will be profitable on any given week is only 52.8%. Thus, the aforementioned sequence adds 11.49 percentage points of favorable odds to the bullish speculator.
To be clear, this is an exercise in probabilities, not certainties. Further, the stock market is an open system, which means that borrowing concepts from models covering closed-system behaviors will inherently carry some statistical vulnerabilities. Still, discretizing continuous signals to extract conditional probabilities yields tangible guideposts to help navigate prospective options-based opportunities.

Options Corner: Pan American Silver May Shine Again As The Market Reassesses Risk

A third and final season of "Squid Game" <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/gaming/25/06/46082294/netflix-is-turning-squid-game-into-something-bigger-as-fortnite-tries-to-keep-up">recently premiered on</a> Netflix Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NFLX#NASDAQ">NFLX</a>). While the series may conclude the storyline of lead character Seong Gi-hun, viewers also saw a cameo appearance by an Academy Award winner that could set up a U.S. version of the show and hint at future spinoffs.
What Happened: Streaming success for Netflix will live on with or without "Squid Game," but viewers and shareholders likely can't help but question what comes next.
Series director and creator Hwang Dong-hyuk has <a href="https://www.netflix.com/tudum/articles/squid-game-season-4-interview">confirmed </a>that the original series for "Squid Game" is done and there will not be a season four.
Without spoiling too much of the series 3 <a href="https://www.netflix.com/tudum/articles/squid-game-season-3-ending-explained">plot </a>for readers who have not watched the newest season, the storyline for Gi-hun reaches its conclusion, with an ending that Hwang originally didn't plan on using.
While Gi-hun may not be used in any spinoffs, in today's age of hit television series and movies, fans know that there can be spinoffs and origin stories to further advance a series.
Outside of Gi-hun there are other characters like Front Man and a baby that plays a key role in the series 3 plot that could also be featured in spinoffs and origin stories.
Viewers of the final episode of "Squid Game" were likely most surprised to see Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett playing a potential recruiter for "Squid Game" in the United States. Blanchett is seen dressed similar to the recruiter of the "Squid Game" series and playing ddakji.

Why It's Important: Hwang has not shied away from the demands of making the three seasons of "Squid Game."
"This is something that has completely consumed me," Hwang said, as <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-features/squid-game-finale-gi-hun-fate-spinoffs-creator-interview-1236301773/">reported </a>by The Hollywood Reporter.
Netflix has not confirmed any spinoffs or remakes, which leaves fans at a standstill and creates even more question marks with the surprise cameo of Blanchett in the final episode.
After previously being interested in creating spinoffs about the gap between season one and two or on the backstories of players and guards, Hwang seems to feel content with everything being completed. &nbsp;
"I think the story ended in a manner where it doesn't need a further story to be told. So I am not too interested in telling a story that continues with the conclusion," Hwang said.
The director said if he did do a spinoff, it would be on the time gap between seasons one and two.
The appearance of Blanchett and previous reports that David Fincher was <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/entertainment/24/06/39538239/squid-game-to-get-an-english-remake-netflix-award-winning-director-could-make-it-happen-rep">making a U.S. version</a> of "Squid Game" have amplified rumors of a potential American version of the show. Blanchett previously starred in Fincher's "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button."
Without a U.S. version of the show, Blanchett's appearance would serve as just a potential plot point, highlighting the existence of other versions of the games around the world.
With Hwang ready to move on beyond "Squid Game," the question is whether he will give his blessing for others to work with his plot and characters, and how much content Netflix can derive from this valuable intellectual property.
A reality game show and mobile game have also been part of the "Squid Game" universe, along with live events and experiences from the streaming giant.
Hundreds of millions of households around the world watched the first season in its first month of release, with Netflix reporting a record of 1.65 billion hours of the series streamed during its first four weeks.
Still ranking as Netflix's most-watched series, the first season&nbsp;<a href="https://www.netflix.com/tudum/top10/most-popular/tv-non-english" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">has&nbsp;</a>more than 265 million viewers with over 2.2 billion hours watched.
Season two of "Squid Game" had 68 million viewers during its first week, setting a&nbsp;<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/24/12/42751367/netflix-posts-record-debut-with-squid-game-season-2-heres-how-many-people-watched-show" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">new Netflix premiere record.</a>
Later this week, we'll find out how many people watched episodes from season three in its premiere week.
Fans of "Squid Game" and Netflix shareholders aren't ready to say goodbye to the series or characters yet, and Hwang may face the difficult decision of ending the series for good or passing the torch to others.

What To Know: <a href="https://x.com/Similarweb/status/1939642834245616024?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Etweet">Similarweb</a> on Monday highlighted a surge in app store downloads for Reddit in recent months, noting that adoption appears to be skyrocketing. Download volumes surged 77.98% in April compared to March, followed by another 47.92% month-over-month increase in May. The spike comes after a year of relatively flat app downloads growth.
Shares have also seen strong momentum over the past quarter, gaining more than 44% over the last three months and more than 34% in the past month alone. Reddit is now up more than 127% over the past year, sharply rebounding from early 2025 lows. Its current market cap stands at approximately $26.4 billion, with the stock trading higher on above-average volume. The surge in activity may also be amplified by short covering, with 16.3% of Reddit's float sold short at last check, per <a href="http://pro.benzinga.com">Benzinga Pro</a>.
Recent analyst updates suggest the rally could continue. Citigroup last week raised its price target to $163, citing sustained user growth and improving platform engagement. Guggenheim reiterated its $165 target, emphasizing Reddit's expanding monetization potential as it scales. The stock's consensus price target has edged higher, with analysts broadly maintaining a positive outlook.
Looking ahead, investors are focused on Reddit's next earnings release for concrete guidance on how the surge in downloads is translating into revenue. In the company&#8217;s most recent earnings report, Reddit emphasized plans to grow ad offerings, expand partnerships and improve personalization algorithms, all of which could help convert the platform's user momentum into sustained financial performance.

Trader Notes:  Crypto trader CryptoCon pointed out that today marks day 195 of sideways Bitcoin price action since Dec. 18, 2024. 
Despite the ongoing bull cycle, Bitcoin has spent most of its time in a grinding, non-directional range. 
According to him, only 36 days during this stretch have delivered meaningful upside, while the rest have been defined by brutal, slow consolidation.
Zooming out, CryptoCon noted that Bitcoin has now spent over two years in largely directionless movement, with periodic rallies giving the illusion of trend strength—when in reality, the broader structure has been defined by stagnation and new lows.
"You're surviving the slowest overall cycle yet, but it's not finished," he emphasized.

With the S&amp;P 500 recently breaking to new highs, he believes Bitcoin is primed to follow suit, forecasting a potential breakout above $120,000 to signal the next major leg up.
Javon Marks <a href="https://x.com/JavonTM1/status/1939664986650956101">identified</a> $116,652 as a near-term breakout level. 
Current price action just beneath this mark shows bullish signs, and a decisive move above it could ignite a rally to $165,000 or higher, a gain of over 50% from current levels.

TEMPLE, Texas, June 30, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Xockets, Inc., a Texas-based pioneer and the inventor of advanced Data Processing Units ("DPUs") that enable accelerated computing and artificial intelligence ("AI") in cloud data centers, today filed two lawsuits against Amazon.com, Inc. and Amazon Web Services in U.S. federal court alleging willful patent infringement. Xockets' patented DPU technologies form the foundation of modern clouds and the AI revolution.
The lawsuits, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas, Austin Division, allege that, for years, Amazon has brazenly infringed Xockets' exclusive patents rights to its DPU innovations—without Xockets' knowledge or permission.
Xockets' patented DPU technologies—or intellectual property—is what Amazon uses to supercharge its cloud computing performance and slash operating costs to stay competitive.
Xockets further alleges that Amazon's Annapurna Labs which designs, develops, and tests Amazon's accused cloud infrastructure in Austin, Texas is "ground zero" for the infringement. The infringement extends throughout Amazon's cloud, including to its compute, AI, and storage server systems, which today include Annapurna Labs' Nitro-branded DPUs integrated with cloud servers using Elastic Fabric Adapters (EFAs) and/or Elastic Network Adapters (ENAs).

Burford Capital Limited ("Burford"), the leading global finance and asset management firm focused on law, today issues the following update to its June 17, 2025 statement in connection with proposed tax provisions relating to litigation finance included within the US Senate's draft of the budget reconciliation bill.
In revisions to the bill over the weekend, the proposed tax rate has been reduced to 31.8% (instead of 40.8%) and the withholding tax rate has been reduced to 15.9% of gains (instead of 50% of the tax rate applied to gross proceeds).
In response to those changes, the nonpartisan Joint Committee on Taxation reduced its estimates of the expected tax revenue the provisions could generate over the next decade to $1.4 billion; prior estimates were as high as $3.5 billion.
The Senate continues to debate the legislation, and there remain a number of uncertain procedural and political steps both for the litigation finance provisions and the bill itself before enactment could occur.&nbsp; The outcome of those steps, including the failure to enact the provisions at all, remains unpredictable.&nbsp; Moreover, as discussed in the prior statement, Burford is not yet able to assess the impact of those provisions, if enacted in their current form, on its future tax position.
