<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Financial Stocks Drive Wall Street Rally</h3>
The financial sector was the primary driver of Friday's market gains. 
The Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/XLF#NYSE">XLF</a>) rallied 1.9%, marking its strongest session since November 2023 and hitting a fresh record high. 
The rally came as a wave of U.S. banks reported better-than-expected third-quarter earnings, reinforcing confidence in the sector&#8217;s resilience.
JPMorgan Chase &amp; Co. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/JPM#NYSE">JPM</a>) delivered a robust performance, with Q3 earnings per share (EPS) of $4.37, exceeding the $4.00 consensus. 
Shares surged over 4% by mid-morning trading in New York. Goldman Sachs analyst Richard Ramsden highlighted a &#8220;robust beat across every line,&#8221; for the largest U.S. bank.
Wells Fargo &amp; Co (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/WFC#NYSE">WFC</a>) saw its shares soar 6.2% after posting an EPS of $1.42, beating expectations despite cautious guidance on net interest income for the year.
Bank of New York Mellon Corp. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BK#NYSE">BK</a>) also delivered stronger-than-expected results, with BK shares rising 1.8%. 
BlackRock Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BLK#NYSE">BLK</a>) gained 3.4% after upbeat earnings and revenue, as performance fees sharply surprised estimates. BlackRock shares hit a new record high. 
Other major banks participated in the rally, with Bank of America Corp. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BAC#NYSE">BAC</a>), Citigroup (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/C#NYSE">C</a>), Goldman Sachs Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GS#NYSE">GS</a>), and Morgan Stanley (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MS#NYSE">MS</a>) climbing between 2% and 4.8%. Morgan Stanley also set new all-time highs. 
The strength in large-cap banks spilled over to regional players, with the SPDR S&amp;P Regional Banking ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/KRE#NYSE">KRE</a>) rallying 3.5%. This helped lift the Russell 2000 index, which gained 1.3% and outperformed large-cap counterparts. 
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Mixed Economic Data Overshadowed by Strong Earnings</h3>
Friday's economic data included a higher-than-expected Producer Price Index (PPI) and a weaker-than-expected Michigan Consumer Sentiment report for October. 
The headline PPI came in at 1.8% year-over-year in September, down from an upwardly revised 1.9% in August, but above expectations of 1.6%. Core producer prices – which exclude energy and food – sharply increased from 2.6% to 2.8% year-on-year, surpassing expectations of 2.7%. 
According to preliminary estimates, the University of Michigan&#8217;s U.S. consumer sentiment index fell to 68.9 in October 2024, down from a five-month high of 70.1 in September and missing forecasts of 70.8.
Year-ahead inflation expectations rose slightly from 2.7% to 2.9%, while the five-year outlook dipped from 3.1% to 3%.
&#8220;Consumers continue to express frustration over high prices. Still, long run business conditions lifted to its highest reading in six months, while current and expected personal finances both softened slightly&#8221;, Surveys of Consumers Director Joanne Hsu said. 
Despite the mixed economic signals, investors focused on the strong bank earnings and remained optimistic about the upcoming corporate earnings season.

S&P 500, Dow Jones Hit New Record Highs As Financial Stocks Soar On Upbeat Earnings

U.S. stocks were higher, with the Dow Jones index gaining around 250 points on Friday.
Shares of Fastenal Company (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/FAST#NASDAQ">FAST</a>) rose sharply during Friday's session after the company reported <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/earnings/24/10/41290240/fastenal-q3-earnings-revenue-and-eps-beat-sets-cautious-tone-on-2024-outlook">better-than-expected third-quarter financial results.</a>
Fastenal reported sales growth of 3.5% year-over-year to $1.910 billion, beating the consensus of $1.908 billion. Unit sales increased in the quarter due to growth from larger customers, new Onsite locations, and an extra selling day, despite minor disruptions from Hurricane Helene and stable pricing. The company's third-quarter EPS was 52 cents, above the estimate of 51 cents.
Fastenal shares jumped 6% to $74.18 on Friday.

Fastenal Posts Upbeat Earnings, Joins Wells Fargo, JPMorgan And Other Big Stocks Moving Higher On Friday

Fastenal Company (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/FAST#NASDAQ">FAST</a>) shares are trading higher after the company reported better-than-expected <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/24/10/b41288413/fastenal-company-reports-2024-third-quarter-earnings" rel="noreferrer noopener">third-quarter results</a>.
Fastenal reported sales growth of 3.5% year-over-year to $1.910 billion, beating the consensus of $1.908 billion. Unit sales increased in the quarter due to growth from larger customers, new Onsite locations, and an extra selling day, despite minor disruptions from Hurricane Helene and stable pricing.
Weighted FASTBin/FASTVend signings (MEUs) rose 22% Y/Y to 7,281; Weighted FASTBin/FASTVend installations rose 11.8% Y/Y.
In the third quarter, FAST&#8217;s Digital Footprint represented 61.1% of sales, an increase from 57.1% a year ago.
The gross margin contracted to 44.9% from 45.9%, primarily due to unfavorable customer and product mix, higher import duties, lack of a prior year&#8217;s shipper rebate, and lower supplier rebates.
Operating income was $388.1 million (+0.4% Y/Y), and the margin was 20.3%, a decline from 21.0% in the same quarter of 2023.

Fastenal&#8217;s operating cash flow for the quarter was $296.9 million, a decrease of 23.5% year over year. This represented 99.6% of the period&#8217;s net income versus 131.3% in the third quarter of 2023.
The company held cash and equivalents of $291.2 million as of September-end.
The company did not repurchase any common stock in the first nine months of 2024 or 2023.
Total debt decreased to $240.0 million (6.3% of total capital) at the end of the quarter from $260 million a year ago.
The company signed 93 new Onsite locations in the third quarter, resulting in 302 year-to-date signings. Active Onsite locations rose 11.7% to 1,986.
Outlook: For 2024, Fastenal&#8217;s goal for Onsite signings remains between 375 to 400, although the lower half of this range seems most likely given the pace of signings through the&nbsp;third quarter.
Price Action: FAST shares are trading higher by 4.44% at $73.10 premarket at the last check Friday.
