GLOBALFOUNDRIES

GlobalFoundries is a top-five contract semiconductor manufacturer globally. It was originally the manufacturing arm of Advanced Micro Devices before it was spun out in 2009. In "The Snowball: Warren Buffett and the Business of Life," biographer Alice Schroeder wrote about Buffett's habit of denying small requests—even when the family was surrounded by signs of wealth.

This wasn't just about snack bars or spare change. Even when Buffett's daughter, Susie, needed a $30,000 loan to remodel a cramped kitchen in her Washington home, he turned her down. According to Schroeder, Susie asked for help and got hit with a classic Buffett response:

The governor warned that retaliatory tariffs could severely damage California&#8217;s supply chains and export markets, especially for small businesses and farmers already struggling in a difficult economy.
Goods like steel, aluminum, and drywall—essential for rebuilding after recent wildfires—could also see price spikes due to the new tariffs.
Newsom&#8217;s administration will now work to identify partnerships that support cross-border trade, protect critical supply chains, and stabilize industries vulnerable to federal trade disruptions.
California has signed 38 international agreements under Newsom, reflecting a long-standing commitment to global cooperation.
