Snap&nbsp;(NYSE:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/snap-stock-quote/">SNAP</a>), which operates the Snapchat social media platform, was once a thriving player in the tech space, enjoying its heyday when competition was scarce. However, the social media player has been up against stiff competition with the rise of TikTok and industry titans like Meta Platforms (NASDAQ:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/meta-stock-quote/">META</a>) dominating the space.



Over the past year, Snap&rsquo;s advertising business has taken a sizeable hit, leading to a significant drop in its top-and-bottom-lines. Additionally, SNAP stock has been <a href="https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/SNAP/momentum/performance">down more than 88% in the past three years</a>, including a drop of 47% so far in 2024. Amidst the struggle, it is making major investments in AI and augmented reality.



The firm&rsquo;s second-quarter results painted an unattractive picture of its advertising business, triggering a decline in its stock price. While its management was quick to blame the market conditions, the lackluster performance is linked to company-specific issues. Advertising sales were up roughly 10% from a year ago, which pales compared to its peers. Moreover, this underwhelming growth comes when some economic indicators point to a recession, which could weigh down ad spending further.



<h2>iRobot (IRBT)</h2>

Despite the early burst of excitement surrounding the stock, IRBT shed much value on the back of its dwindling fundamental performance.&nbsp;Moreover, following its stock, it is now trading at a fraction of Amazon&rsquo;s (NASDAQ:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/amzn-stock-quote/" target="_blank">AMZN</a>)&nbsp;takeover offer following the deal&rsquo;s collapse earlier this year due to EU regulatory scrutiny.



The fallout has been severe, with <a href="https://www.therobotreport.com/irobot-terminates-deal-with-amazon-laying-off-31-of-staff/#:~:text=iRobot%20Corp.,the%20demise%20of%20the%20deal.">iRobot laying off more than 30% of its workforce</a>, underscoring deeper operational challenges. As a stand-alone entity, there&rsquo;s little to get excited about with iRobot, with sales and profit margins consistently in the red over the past several years.



Despite restructuring efforts, the firm remains in a precarious situation, with its <a href="https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/IRBT/balance-sheet">cash position dropping 78% from 2021 to $108.5 million</a> as per its latest quarterly update. Moreover, the intense competition and eroding market share in the robotic vacuum space aggravate the company&rsquo;s bleak outlook.



<h2>BigBear.ai (BBAI)</h2>

In its most recent quarterly report, BigBear.ai just a 3.4% increase in sales from a year ago, <a href="https://seekingalpha.com/news/4132623-bigbear-ai-gaap-eps-of-0_05-beats-0_02-revenue-of-39_8m-misses-6_75m" target="_blank">missing estimates of $6.75 million</a>. Moreover the company missed estimates on its top-line for the fifth consecutive quarter. Additionally, it missed bottom-line estimates in three out of the past five quarters.



Strategically, BigBear.ai struggled to hold its own against fierce competition from well-established AI giants and agile startups. Additionally, by acquiring Pangiam Intermediate, BigBear.ai aims to stand out in terms of visual AI and biometrics capabilities.



However, these efforts have yet to translate into financial performance. Moreover, its aggressive acquisition strategy has added to its massive debt burden, heightening concerns about dilution.&nbsp;It has a $195 million in long-term debt and&nbsp;<a href="https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/BBAI/balance-sheet" target="_blank">just $72 million in cash</a>.

Now could be a great time for investors to consider the best robotics stocks to buy in August. I wrote around a month ago that there could be record <a href="https://investorplace.com/2024/08/qualcomm-stock-analysis-is-qcom-a-buy-sell-or-hold-right-now/">volatility</a> in the market. That prediction turned out to be true, and volatility has since been decreasing. Decreased volatility generally leads to decreased fear and higher stock prices. Buying these best robotics stocks now could be a great option for investors to take advantage of short-term swings in the market.



Also, as the market expands, with projections estimating a <a href="https://www.marketresearchfuture.com/reports/robotics-market-4732">growth</a> to over $286 billion by 2032, investors are keen to identify companies that will benefit most from these advancements. Many of the best robotics stocks on this list are currently undervalued and could have substantial upside ahead for investors.



So here are three companies for investors to consider.



<h2>iRobot (IRBT)</h2>

There are substantial risks to investing in IRBT, but I feel that it is currently undervalued. Most of the risks come from the significant <a href="https://investor.irobot.com/news-releases/news-release-details/irobot-reports-second-quarter-2024-financial-results">losses</a> it has accumulated, including a $61.1 loss per share last quarter.



However, I am optimistic that IRBT stock can turn its fortunes around. The company has aggressively restructured its operations. This restructuring has also led to significant cost savings, including a 41% reduction in inventory year-over-year, and a narrowed operating loss in Q2 2024 compared with the previous corresponding period.



These measures are expected to improve its EPS <a href="https://stockanalysis.com/stocks/irbt/forecast/">substantially</a> over the next two years, with EPS rising to a negative $1.20 by FY2026. The stock is certainly risky, but there is potential upside for investors as it trades at just 0.29x sales.



<h2>Cognex Corporation (CGNX)&nbsp;</h2>

In Q2 2024, Cognex <a href="https://s2.q4cdn.com/773500753/files/doc_earnings/2024/q2/earnings-result/cognex-press-release-q2-24.pdf">generated</a> $239 million in revenue, down 1% YOY but up 14% sequentially from Q1 2024. Despite softness in its factory automation business, Cognex saw robust growth in its Logistics and Semiconductor markets.&nbsp;



It should be noted that various robotics and automation stocks have been pressured due to inflation, interest rates, geopolitical instability and being at a lower point in the business cycle. I believe then that investors should consider CGNX as a potential investment. For Q3 2024, Cognex expects revenue between $225 million and $240 million, with a slight decrease from Q2 2024 due to seasonal factors. However, its long-term view looks accretive due to automation likely playing a key role in manufacturing.



<h2>Intuitive Surgical (ISRG)</h2>

The company has an established <a href="https://www.ibisworld.com/us/company/intuitive-surgical-inc/406208/#:~:text=In%20the%20US%2C%20the%20company%20has%20a,and%20revenue%20growth%20compared%20to%20their%20peers.">foothold</a> in the robotics surgery market. It currently holds the largest market share for the robotic surgery market at the time of writing.



The high switching costs of changing machines and manufacturers provide ISRG stock with a natural protective moat that will sustain its earnings and cash flow. The average <a href="https://www.medtechdive.com/news/intuitive-da-vinci-5-robot-launch-plan/710547/">outlay</a> for one of ISRG&rsquo;s machines starts at around $1.42 million, with additional training and maintenance fees included to be on top of that price. ISRG&rsquo;s machines feature prominently in hospitals and it is working on developing more advanced robotics solutions in the future, such as with its Da Vinci 5 model.



I think that ISRG trades at a discount to its fair value given that it has momentum on its side, with its stock price increasing 41.77% year-to-date.&nbsp;

Robotics continues to pique investors&rsquo; interest, and even more so as we enter a new age of artificial intelligence technologies. Automation has been a significant catalyst for the space. Whether we&rsquo;re talking about manufacturing, logistics, surgical procedures, or everyday household tasks, robotics has helped to drive efficiencies and make life easier.



From an investor&rsquo;s point of view, exposure to public companies that work in robotic automation just makes sense from an economic perspective, particularly when considering that robots have been a secular tailwind for many industries for some time now.



Of course, investors should be aware of risks. Globally high interest rates, economic uncertainty, and geopolitical conflicts have continued to wreak havoc on a multiplicity of equities markets. This means that not all companies will pursue their automation strategies, which will negatively impact a host of robotics stocks.



Below are three robotics stocks to sell by 2025.



<h2>iRobot (IRBT)</h2>

The robotics firm specializes in robots for households. The automatic vacuum cleaner Roomba is one of the firm&rsquo;s best-selling products. But inflation, coupled with high interest rates, tempered consumer spending on unnecessary goods. Moreover, the consumer technology glut that occurred during the pandemic years, due to many folks staying at home and buying a wide array of technology gadgets, put a dent into iRobot&rsquo;s potential top-line growth.



To improve financial figures, iRobot announced a&nbsp;<a href="https://investor.irobot.com/news-releases/news-release-details/irobot-announces-operational-restructuring-plan-position-company" target="_blank">restructuring plan</a>&nbsp;in January that the firm dubbed &ldquo;iRobot Elevate,&rdquo; which includes a host of operational cost-cutting measures. As a result in the second quarter of fiscal year 2024, iRobot was able to <a href="https://investor.irobot.com/news-releases/news-release-details/irobot-reports-second-quarter-2024-financial-results">improve</a> margins and significantly reduce its bloated inventory levels.



Still, this will most likely not be enough for the company to rebound. Now, iRobot faces competition from viable Chinese competitors. Narwal, a startup backed by Tencent (OTCMKTS:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/tcehy-stock-quote/">TCEHY</a>) and ByteDance, is disrupting the consumer robotics market with&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2024-08-05/a-new-generation-of-premium-brands-is-taking-made-in-china-upscale?sref=a6OYFmE3" target="_blank">small yet effective innovations</a>, such as a self-cleaning mop, that will help it differentiate from competitors. Narwal&rsquo;s high-end products compete directly in the price range of iRobot&rsquo;s.



That said, despite all the operational turmoil, iRobot will also have to contend with new competitors.



<h2>Rockwell Automation (ROK)</h2>

For example, Rockwell&rsquo;s <a href="https://www.rockwellautomation.com/en-us/products/hardware/allen-bradley/industrial-control-products.html">&ldquo;Allen&#8209;Bradley&rdquo; smart devices</a> include advanced sensors with connectivity and data analytics capabilities for real-time monitoring and maintenance control.&nbsp;



Because inflation remains elevated and industrial firms have had to suffer through complex supply chain constraints, the demand for automation devices and services has increased. Unfortunately, despite solid, double-digit growth numbers over the past three fiscal years, order growth appears to be slowing, according to the company&rsquo;s third-quarter earnings report for fiscal year 2024. This could be tied to the underwhelming consumer data we&rsquo;ve seen over the past couple of months. As consumers pull back spending, industrial firms will see less demand and thus allocate less spending to automation updates.



Rockwell&rsquo;s stock is down 17% since the start of the year, and a worsening demand environment could send it plunging even more.



<h2>PTC (PTC)</h2>

The CAD technology also has generative design capabilities and can provide real-time simulations.



Similarly, <a href="https://www.ptc.com/en/products/onshape">Onshape</a> is another 3-D cloud-based CAD product that comes with data management tools. Lastly, PTC has also developed an augmented reality technology called Vuforia that helps industrial businesses visualize digital information in a physical context.



The received a sizable Covid-19 bump to its top-line figures, no doubt from the demand for software products at that time. However, in 2022 and 2024, growth slowed to the high single-digit territory. Despite a round of solid earnings, the macroeconomic outlook for the software environment could pressure PTC shares in the future, especially as economic conditions worsen.
