Yardeni also acknowledged the possibility that a bear market may have begun on Feb. 20, the day after the S&amp;P 500 reached a record high. This shift in sentiment led him to lower his year-end 2025 S&amp;P 500 target from 7,000 to 6,400.
From a technical standpoint, only 41% of S&amp;P 500 stocks are trading above their 200-day moving average, signaling that most have fallen below a key trend support level, potentially confirming a bearish phase.

Jeffrey Buchbinder, chief equity strategist at LPL Financial, points out that market corrections—defined as a decline of 10% or more—occur every 1.1 years on average, dating back to 1928.

Since 1950, the S&amp;P 500 has experienced an average intra-year drawdown of a negative 13.7%, yet it has still managed to post an average annual gain of 9.5%, with 73% of those years ending in positive territory. 
Even in years when the index experienced an intra-year decline of 10% to 20%, the average annual return was still 8.4%, with 64% of those years finishing higher.

Based on current analyst price targets, several stocks stand out for their potential gains. 
Deckers Outdoor Corp. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/DECK#NYSE">DECK</a>) leads the list, with a median price target nearly 95% higher than its last price. First Solar Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/FSLR#NASDAQ">FSLR</a>) follows closely, with a projected upside of 93%.
Notably, Tesla and Nvidia, two of the most closely watched growth stocks, also rank high on the list. Analysts see Tesla's price target at $371.50, representing a 64.9% upside, while Nvidia's median price target sits at $175, implying a 51.6% gain from current levels.

During a briefing in the Oval Office on Feb. 11, <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/25/02/43690690/elon-musk-urges-trump-to-delete-entire-agencies-as-doge-lead-calls-for-radical-us-spending-cuts-remove-the-roots-of-the-weeds">Elon Musk highlighted</a> an outdated government system that still processes federal retirements by hand—in a limestone mine in Pennsylvania that's been used since 1955.
"There's a limestone mine where we store all the retirement paperwork… This mine looks like something out of the '50s, because it was started in 1955, so it looks like it's, like, a time warp," Musk said. He went on to describe how the speed of an old elevator inside the mine determines how quickly retirements can be processed. "And when the elevator breaks down, <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/personal-finance/25/02/43606795/are-you-on-track-to-retire-richer-than-90-of-people-heres-the-nest-egg-you-need-to-rank-among-the-top-savers">nobody can retire</a>. The mine in Boyers, Pennsylvania, about 50 miles north of Pittsburgh, houses the Office of Personnel Management's Retirement Operations Center, where over 700 employees manually handle up to 10,000 retirement applications per month. <a href="https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2025/02/12/federal-retirement-mine-pennsylvania-elon-musk/78466272007/">According to USA Today</a>, a 2023 Inspector General report cited three main reasons for the backlog: a reliance on paper applications, staffing shortages, and errors in forms that slow down processing.
Musk criticized the inefficiency, revealing that the maximum number of retirees the system can handle in a month is 10,000, despite a growing backlog. In January, OPM received over 16,000 new retirement claims but processed only 6,700. Even when processing speeds improve, the backlog remains above 13,000 applications at any given time, USA Today reported.&nbsp;

Musk didn't hold back on the workforce issue either. "There needs to be a lot of people working for the federal government, but not as many as currently," he said. "Instead of working in a mine shaft, carrying manila envelopes to boxes in a mine shaft, you can do practically anything else and you would add to the goods and services of the United States in a more useful way."
The mine is owned and operated by Iron Mountain&nbsp; (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/IRM#NYSE">IRM</a>), a storage and data managemen company. After Musk's comments, CNBC said that Iron Mountain's stock dropped over 10%, though CEO Bill Meaney downplayed the impact, pointing out that government document storage accounts for less than half a percent of the company's physical storage revenue. He also emphasized that Iron Mountain earns $130 million annually from digital transformation services, compared to just $10 million from storing government documents.

While the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/25/02/43645267/labor-economist-says-musk-paying-full-annual-social-security-taxes-would-cut-the-deficit-by-1-20-imagine-expanding-that-to-20000-others">federal government has experimented</a> with digital retirement applications, full modernization could still take years. A 2014 Washington Post report detailed previous failed automation attempts, with over $100 million spent across three decades to try to update the system. More recently, Federal News Network reported last summer that OPM was piloting an online retirement application, though widespread adoption is still far off.
As Musk's Department of Government Efficiency initiative moves forward, his criticism has put new pressure on the government to overhaul an outdated system—one that, for now, is still running on paper, in a cave, with an elevator deciding when retirees get their benefits.

Wall Street climbed on Thursday, even as the Producer Price Index (PPI) sharply exceeded estimates in January, reigniting concerns <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/economics/macro-economic-events/25/02/43692996/inflation-fears-mount-as-producer-prices-soar-to-35-put-fed-interest-rate-cut-on-ice">over persistent inflationary pressures. </a>
Despite the hotter-than-expected PPI reading—up 3.5% year-over-year in January, surpassing the 3.3% forecast—investors found some relief in certain PPI components that influence the Federal Reserve's preferred inflation gauge, which showed signs of <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/economics/macro-economic-events/25/02/43701823/economists-breathe-sigh-of-relief-why-producer-inflation-isnt-as-bad-as-it-seems">cooling compared to December.</a>

The U.S. chipmaker benefited from renewed buying momentum following comments from Vice President J.D. Vance, who indicated that the Trump administration plans to ease regulations to accelerate AI chip innovation in the U.S.
Intel has now soared over 27% this week, tracking its best weekly performance since 1974. 
The U.S. dollar extended its decline as Treasury yields pulled back sharply, reversing Wednesday&#8217;s surge.
In commodities, gold edged up 0.4% to $2,918 per ounce, oil remained steady at $71 per barrel, and natural gas surged 2.4% to $3.66 per million British thermal units. 
Sentiment in cryptocurrency markets remained subdued, with Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) sliding 2.4% to trade below $96,000.

Dividend: The board declared a quarterly cash dividend of $0.785 per share, representing <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/25/02/b43688270/iron-mountain-increases-quarterly-dividend-per-share-by-10" rel="noreferrer noopener">an increase of 10%</a>.
CEO William L. Meaney said the company continues to execute well against its Project Matterhorn growth strategy, delivering double-digit revenue growth in the quarter with strength across each of our business segments.
2025 Outlook:&nbsp;Iron Mountain&nbsp;expects revenues of $6.65 billion–$6.80 billion&nbsp;versus the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/calendars/guidance" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">$6.77 billion estimate</a>&nbsp;and AFFO per share of $4.85–$4.95.
