Why It&#8217;s Important:&nbsp;Nvidia was the top searched stock on Benzinga Pro for the month of September once again. The stock has ranked first or second for every month tracked since February, sometimes alternating with SPY or Tesla.
The SPDR S&amp;P 500 ETF Trust ranked second for a second straight month, which comes as the S&amp;P 500 tracking index hit new all-time highs in the month of September.
Tesla, which topped the month of July, has ranked third for two straight weeks. The stock has ranked among the top four stocks searched in each month tracked in 2024.
The bigger story in September were the newcomers and the stocks that dropped off.
Newcomers to the top 10 included Wheeler Real Estate, Galmed, Intel and Intuitive. Of the four stocks, only Intuitive had ranked in the top 20 over the last three months. The newcomers all had catalysts in the last month that made their stocks highly volatile.
On the 11th through 20th portion of the list, the stocks were all different from the previous month with Intuitive moving to the top 10 and Palantir going from 7th to 12th and the other stocks all new to the top 20.
Several of the companies ranked in the bottom part of the top 20 are penny stocks trading at less than $5 per share that saw wide moves that saw increased interest from Benzinga traders.
One of the bigger names to make the top 20, by name recognition, is Trump Media &amp; Technology Group, the company that counts former President Donald Trump as a co-founder. The stock has been highly volatile during the 2024 election cycle.
Dropping out of the top 10 were Lumen Technologies (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/LUMN#NYSE">LUMN</a>), Advanced Micro Devices (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AMD#NASDAQ">AMD</a>), Geovax Labs (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GOVX#NASDAQ">GOVX</a>) and the aforementioned Palantir.
Other big names that exited the top 20 include Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AMZN#NASDAQ">AMZN</a>) that was 13th in August and fell to 24th to narrowly miss the list.
Meta Platforms (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/META#NASDAQ">META</a>), which has frequently appeared in the top 20 and was ranked 15th in August dropped out of the top 20.
Overall the month of September saw six of the same top 10 tickers from August and eight of the top 20 tickers from August.

According to <a href="https://www.quiverquant.com/">Quiver Quantitative</a>, a data platform that tracks political donations, Google&#8217;s workforce contributed $4.1 million to Democrats, compared to just $629,778 to <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cannabis/24/09/40879364/young-republicans-break-ranks-to-back-cannabis-legalization-is-the-gop-ready-for-a-shift-in-the-">Republicans</a>. Similarly, Microsoft employees sent $3.45 million to Democrats, dwarfing their $876,320 to Republicans.&nbsp;
Netflix stands out with $4.47 million exclusively to Democrats, revealing a clear preference among tech giants.

Notably, contributions from companies like Palantir (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/PLTR#NYSE">PLTR</a>) and Arista Networks (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/ANET#NYSE">ANET</a>) demonstrate the industry&#8217;s broader support, with Palantir employees donating $2.26 million to Democrats, compared to $1.05 million to Republicans.

Here&#8217;s a look at <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/equities/24/10/41141540/palantir-technologies-partners-with-edgescale-ai-to-operationalize-ai-in-manufacturing-and-utili">what&#8217;s going on</a>.
What To Know: Palantir shares appear to be getting a lift from a Barron&#8217;s <a href="https://www.barrons.com/articles/palantir-stock-chairman-peter-thiel-b63415c7">report</a> suggesting Palantir co-founder and chairman Peter Thiel has completed selling the maximum number of shares under a trading plan he adopted in May.
Thiel reportedly sold 12.412 million Palantir shares at an average price of $36.85 per share from Sept. 27 through Oct. 1 under the 10b5-1 trading plan. The shares were sold through Rivendell 7 LLC, which now has approximately 34.26 million shares of Palantir remaining. 
The report indicates that Thiel had until Dec. 31, 2025 to execute the sales under the plan, but has now exhausted the number of shares he was set to sell.
Palantir shares popped shortly after the report surfaced. It&#8217;s worth noting that Barron&#8217;s released a <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/09/41010963/nvidia-stock-is-ripping-higher-tuesday-whats-going-on">similar article</a> on Nvidia Corp (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NVDA#NASDAQ">NVDA</a>) CEO Jensen Huang last month, showing that the Nvidia CEO had completed selling the maximum number of shares under his 10b5-1 trading plan several months early. Nvidia shares surged approximately 4% on the report.

"I do think there's going to be a fairly heated debate about who else benefits or loses… IT services right now is quite a mixed bag," Merritt said. "The likes of Accenture has had some tough quarters over the last year… quite a bit of debate about cannibalization vs opportunity." Merritt highlighted Palantir Technologies Inc. He said that Wedbush has recently become more bullish on the sector as economic conditions stabilize as the Fed cuts interest rates. "We have been quite cautious on the regional and mid-cap bank group for the past couple of years and we just recently in the past couple of months turned to a more balanced, neutral sector view,&#8221; Merritt said. &#8220;And the thought being that to the extent the economy is able to hang in there, credit metrics don't exhibit too much deterioration, and you see rates move in a more favorable direction, it's appropriate to have a more balanced stance." Merritt highlighted Western Alliance Bancorp (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/WAL#NYSE">WAL</a>) as a name that Wedbush analysts recently selected for the firm's "Best Ideas" list.
