Per Bob Martin, president and CEO of THOR Industries, the innovative hybrid platform and the ongoing partnership with Harbinger underscore THOR&#39;s leadership and introduce significant product differentiation.
The THOR Test Vehicle is uniquely designed for RV range requirements, exclusively for THOR. This is the first electrified chassis specifically tailored for Class A motorhomes. This platform aims to reduce range anxiety while enhancing travel freedom and sustainability. The hybrid chassis is powered by a 140-kWh battery pack, supplemented by a gasoline range extender and solar rooftop. Its 800-volt electrical system enables fast charging at DC Fast Charger stations, which aids extended travel. Charging can also occur at campsites, through the range extender, or via solar energy to provide flexibility for both on-road and off-grid use.
The hybrid platform can serve as a backup power source for homes and may eventually allow users to sell excess energy back to the grid. The electric powertrain delivers exceptional acceleration and torque, providing up to twice the torque of a diesel engine, ensuring strong highway performance on mountain roads and tough terrain. Harbinger&#39;s chassis design includes all the core systems of an EV, such as the drivetrain, high-voltage battery system, steering and brakes. With a double-wishbone front suspension, a steer-by-wire system and an advanced driver assistance system, the chassis ensures a smooth and safe ride, even for large vehicles.
The THOR Test Vehicle is available for test drives by RV dealers on the THOR RV Experience Track at the Elkhart Dealer Open House, the largest dealer event in North America, from Monday, Sept. 23, 2024, in Elkhart, IN. Dealers will get to experience this future-forward RV and contribute to its market launch.

The company reported fourth-quarter earnings per share of $1.68, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/24/09/g40998065/thor-industries-announces-fourth-quarter-fiscal-2024-results" rel="noreferrer noopener">beating the street view of $1.43</a>. Quarterly sales of $2.534 billion (down 7.4%) outpaced the analyst consensus of $2.471 billion.
North American Towable RV net sales were up 0.1% for the fourth quarter, North American Motorized RV net sales decreased 21.2%, and European RV net sales decreased 7.4% on a year over year basis. Quarterly gross profit margin expanded by 140 basis points to 15.8%.

Outlook: Thor Industries anticipates fiscal year 2025 sales between $9.0 billion and $9.8 billion, compared to the $10.49 billion estimate, and expects EPS to range from $4.00 to $5.00, below the estimated $6.65.
&#8220;Our base assumption for forecasting will be that the macro challenges will persist through our fiscal year 2025, which runs from August 1, 2024 through July 31, 2025. In North America, we expect discounting in fiscal 2025 to remain elevated in our Motorized segment, while we expect discounts to slightly moderate in our Towable segment,&#8221; the company said.

After the market ended at a fresh record on Monday, traders have positioned themselves for more gains. The index futures are modestly higher early Tuesday. China, the second largest economy in the world, decided to go bold, with the nation&#8217;s central bank announcing a series of stimulatory measures. This has sent commodities soaring, given China is a commodity-guzzling country. China&#8217;s growth has a bearing on the rest of the global economy as it is often called the world&#8217;s factory.
In the domestic market, traders may look ahead to a speech by a Federal Reserve official, a consumer confidence reading and a couple of house prices data. Momentum suggests additional gains but the overbought levels may introduce caution, especially ahead of key inflation data due this week and more labor market data that would roll out next week.

Cues From Last Session:
U.S. stocks closed Monday&#8217;s session modestly higher although trading was marked by some degree of volatility. The major indices opened higher, as they digested comments from Fed officials, and reacted to S&amp;P Global private sector activity readings, which showed the manufacturing sector contracted more than expected. Minneapolis Fed President Neel Kashkari said in an interview with CNBC&#8217;s Squawk Box that he favored a slowdown in rate cuts.
The indices traded on a nervous note, with the Dow Industrials and the Nasdaq Composite dipping below the unchanged line in the mid-session before making a comeback. The Dow hit new intraday and closing highs, while the S&amp;P 500 Index, despite the mid-session volatility, traded in the green throughout the session and ended at a fresh high.
Among S&amp;P 500 sectors, real estate, utility, material, energy and consumer discretionary stocks advanced solidly. On the other hand, communication services, healthcare and IT stocks experienced modest weakness.

Insights From Analysts:
The Fed delivered in line with expectations and it is now time to move to neutral on defensives vs. cyclicals, said Morgan Stanley&#8217;s U.S. Equity Strategist Mike Wilson. The valuation of defensives has reached extended levels and &#8220;we await more clarity on the labor data,&#8221; the strategist said. 
&#8220;Historically, defensives see fairly persistent outperformance 3-12 months following the Fed&#8217;s first cut, but can see initial, modest underperformance in the 1 month following the initial rate reduction,&#8221; Wilson said. The strategist recommended taking profits on the recent outperformance of defensives makes sense in the absence of knowing the outcome of the next labor report. 
Wilson said he continued to have conviction in his recommendation of large caps over small caps and also his bias for high-quality names.
WisdomTree Senior Economist and Wharton Professor Emeritus Jeremy Siegel said valuations across many sectors appear stretched by historical standards, particularly in the technology sector and AI-driven companies. &#8220;This reflects a broader market anticipation of substantial growth driven by technological advancements,&#8221; he said.
&#8220;As AI continues to evolve, it will be crucial to differentiate between companies that are genuinely creating value through innovative AI applications and those whose valuations are inflated by speculative interest.&#8221;
Siegel sees big rate cuts supporting small-cap companies that borrow at short-term borrowing rates as these companies have been the most impacted by the Fed&#8217;s aggressive rate hikes and they have some relatively cheap valuations in the U.S. market.

The 10-year Treasury note climbed 5.5 points to 3.793%.
Asian stocks, though ending mixed, saw spectacular performances by the Chinese market. The Shanghai Composite Index soared over 4% on stimulus hopes, and this positivity seeped into the Hong Kong market. The Chinese stock market gauge&#8217;s performance marked the biggest one-day gain in over four years. 
The People&#8217;s Bank of China announced a slew of measures to kickstart domestic growth, which has been constrained by an ailing property sector. In a new conference in Beijing, central bank chief Pan Gongsheng said, &#8220;The reserve requirement ratio will be cut by 0.5 percentage points in the near future,&#8221; while he also hinted at reducing the policy interest rate and driving down the market benchmark interest rate to reinvigorate growth.
&#8216;The Taiwanese and South Korean markets also recorded decent gains. The Australian market retreated amid a pause decision by the central bank.
The European markets firmed up early Tuesday.

A chance meeting in Australia a decade ago marked the start of a long road that could soon peak with a Hong Kong listing for&nbsp;New Gonow Recreational Vehicles Inc.&nbsp;The maker of towable recreational vehicles (RV)&nbsp;<a href="https://www1.hkexnews.hk/app/sehk/2024/106509/documents/sehk24052800706.pdf">applied for the listing</a>&nbsp;in May, and last week received a necessary green light from the China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC) to move ahead.
The company plans to issue up to 276 million shares, according to the&nbsp;<a href="http://www.csrc.gov.cn/csrc/c105984/c7505610/content.shtml">CSRC post</a>, which didn&rsquo;t provide any fundraising targets. Based on a likely market value of between $300 million and $500 million by our calculations, the deal could raise around $50 million if it moves ahead. Its sole underwriter is Huatai International, the global arm of one of China&rsquo;s leading brokerages, which also suggests this sort of mid-sized fundraising target.
While surging Chinese car exports have grabbed global headlines over the last year, the RV market remains a relatively small niche still dominated by global brands like&nbsp;Thor Industries&nbsp;(NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/tho#NYSE">THO</a>) and&nbsp;Winnebago&nbsp;(NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/wgo#NYSE">WGO</a>). New Gonow is hoping to join that group someday, though nearly all of its sales currently come from Australia and New Zealand, which together make up the world&rsquo;s third-largest RV market behind North America and Europe.
New Gonow&rsquo;s sales have been revving up recently, powered by a combination of retirees with plenty of time to travel and also young people looking for new types of adventure off the usual beaten tracks. The company&rsquo;s sales more than doubled between 2021 and 2023 on that boom, helped by a return to normal after the end of the pandemic. The company&rsquo;s profit more than tripled over that time as it gained economies of scale &ndash; a point it hopes will attract investors.
New Gonow is a textbook case of a Chinese company acquiring a Western brand, then moving its production to China to reduce costs. While such a strategy has a spotty record, often because such acquired brands are already past their prime, it seems to be working well in the case of New Gonow, which has developed its own brands alongside the acquired one.
The company&rsquo;s move into RVs dates back to a chance encounter detailed in a&nbsp;<a href="https://www.caravancampingsales.com.au/editorial/details/chinese-buy-melbourne-s-regent-caravans-46365/">2014 article</a>&nbsp;on the Australian website caravancampingsales.com.au. That year, a group of people from the company was in Australia creating buzz in their search for an RV maker to acquire, said Stan Guthrie, who was a major shareholder at that time in Regent, a major local RV maker that New Gonow ended up acquiring.
&ldquo;I tracked them down and invited them over,&rdquo; he said, referring to Regent&rsquo;s production base in the city of Melbourne. &ldquo;They immediately liked what they saw and the deal was already done in principle not long afterwards. However, if I hadn&rsquo;t called into the factory that morning it might never have been, as they had four other caravan manufacturers on their shopping list.&rdquo;
Following the acquisition, New Gonow launched its mainstream Snowy River brand a year later, while positioning Regent as a luxury brand. It added Newgen in 2019, aiming to attract younger buyers with that brand&rsquo;s off-road capabilities. Snowy River currently accounts for about three-quarters of New Gonow&rsquo;s sales by revenue, with Regent and Newgen each accounting for another 10%. Its models typically sell for between A$51,000 ($34,700) and A$85,000.
<h3>Geely Background</h3>
At 53 years old, company founder and Chairman Miao Xuezhong himself is a product of China&rsquo;s recent car boom, which is another selling point for investors. His pedigree includes three years as a senior executive at Geely, now one of China&rsquo;s leading private automakers, from 1999 to 2002, back when the company was just starting its climb to prominence. He later also worked in high-level positions at GAC, a leading state-owned carmaker whose joint venture partners include Honda and Toyota, from 2010 to 2016.
The company&rsquo;s background and financials also tick many of the right boxes that should attract investors and ease concerns over any potential for falling victim to China-Western trade tensions. As a vehicle maker in a niche category like RVs, it seems unlikely that New Gonow could soon become subject to any protective import duties like the ones being levied in the U.S. and Europe on Chinese EVs.
The company currently gets nearly all of its revenue from Australia and New Zealand, where it sells through a network of 13 third-party dealers, two self-owned stores and four joint ventures with local partners. But it also says it plans to eventually enter the larger North American and European markets, without giving any specific dates. It&rsquo;s also developing electric vehicle (EV) &nbsp;models, and says it&rsquo;s aiming to launch those in the first quarter of next year.
In terms of sales, the company&rsquo;s unit sales roughly doubled over the last three years to 2,694 RVs delivered in 2023 from 1,330 in 2021. But its revenue grew by a much faster 140% over that time, from 300 million yuan in 2021 to 720 million yuan last year, showing it was able to generate more revenue per vehicle with its growing scale and brand awareness. Its cost of sales over that time fell from 83% of revenue to 75%, helping to raise its gross margin from 16.7% in 2021 to 25.1% last year. The bottom line was that New Gonow&rsquo;s profit roughly tripled over the three-year period, reaching 78.8 million yuan last year from 25.1 million yuan in 2021.
The company is currently the second-largest RV seller in Australia and New Zealand with 6.8% of the market, meaning there&rsquo;s plenty of room for growth. Though we should also note that it&rsquo;s well behind the market leader&rsquo;s 31.5% market share, and the third- to fifth-largest players are quite close behind, each with market share 5%.
Thor Industries and Winnebago both look like good comparisons from a valuation perspective, both with price-to-earnings (P/E) ratios of 22. A similar ratio would value New Gonow at about $275 million, though it&rsquo;s likely to seek a premium due to its strong growth potential, which could value it at the $300 million to $500 million range we mentioned earlier. At the end of the day, the company looks well positioned by leveraging its China manufacturing base to sell to both young people and retirees in the West who are increasingly looking for this type of flexible outdoor recreational experience.
