JPMorgan analysts Dubravko Lakos-Bujas, Arun Jain and Bhupinder Singh note that the sharp reversal in momentum has erased two years of gains in just three weeks &#8211; one of the fastest unwinds in four decades. 
With mega-caps leading the drop and a dramatic shift towards low-volatility stocks, investors need to rethink their strategies.

Extreme crowding in momentum stocks &#8211; primarily fueled by AI enthusiasm, high-rate expectations and pro-growth bets—came under pressure as macro risks resurfaced. 
The result? A 17% average decline among the Mag-7, triggering a $5.8 trillion market cap wipeout in the S&amp;P 500.
While forced liquidations and systematic deleveraging have cooled the immediate risk of another crash, JPMorgan warns that if this is a true regime shift, the unwind may only be one-third complete.

JPMorgan's Tien-tsin Huang analyzes the key differences between the two payment giants, focusing on their financials, shareholder returns, and valuation dynamics.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Scale Vs. Speed: Who Wins?</h2>
Visa's dominance is clear — it boasts 63% more total volume, 31% more revenue, and an enviable ten-point operating margin advantage, thanks to superior fixed cost leverage. It also has 50% more cards outstanding and commands nearly two-thirds of the global market share in purchase volume.
However, Mastercard has been running circles around Visa in growth, capitalizing on a mix of faster-expanding regions and revenue streams. According to Huang, Mastercard outpaced Visa in revenue growth by about two percentage points, maintaining its five-year average edge. Even on the bottom line, Mastercard's adjusted EPS grew four percentage points faster, thanks to margin expansion—something Visa couldn't pull off last year.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Shareholder Returns: A Dead Heat</h2>
Both companies are cash flow powerhouses, returning nearly all of their adjusted net income to shareholders via aggressive share buybacks. In 2024, Mastercard and Visa shares gained 23% and 21%, respectively, mirroring the S&amp;P 500's performance. 
However, Huang notes that Visa has taken the early lead in 2025, benefiting from investors' appetite for U.S. growth and a reduced regulatory overhang.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">The Valuation Puzzle</h2>
Network multiples have expanded, with Mastercard trading at 33x forward earnings versus Visa's 28x. 
While both remain in line with their historical premium to the S&amp;P 500, Huang points out that Mastercard's higher multiple reflects its stronger growth profile, while Visa's relative value case is gaining traction.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">The Verdict</h2>
Huang isn't picking sides, maintaining an Overweight rating on both stocks. Mastercard's growth premium looks sustainable, but Visa's relative value and easing regulatory risks could make it the safer bet. 
Investors have a choice—go big with Visa or go fast with Mastercard. Either way, it's a battle of titans worth watching.

Visa Vs. Mastercard: The Battle For Payment Supremacy Heats Up

Billionaire Elon Musk <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/23/04/31810229/elon-musk-bought-twitter-1-year-ago-a-look-back-at-whats-happened-since-and-what-could-be-next">paid $44 billion </a>to acquire social media platform Twitter, which he later rebranded to X.
The valuation of the platform <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/24/12/42271676/fidelity-raises-valuation-of-elon-musks-x-but-its-still-worth-72-less-than-his-buyout-price">has declined sharply</a> since the 2022 purchase with Fidelity marking the value down by 72% as of December.
A new report shows a secondary deal for the company has pushed its valuation back to where Musk took the company private.
What Happened: X is once again worth $44 billion, a valuation that comes with Musk sharing improving financials for the company and advertisers like Apple and Amazon.com returning to<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/social-media/25/01/43373012/elon-musk-bringing-advertisers-back-to-x-amazon-boosts-spending-apple-considers-return"> spending on the platform.</a>
A secondary deal completed earlier this month valued the company at $44 billion, according to a new Financial Times <a href="https://www.ft.com/content/d4616dec-c4c7-417f-8549-134710bbc5b1">report</a>.
The report said the social media company could also be raising up to $2 billion in a primary round, looking to pay off some of the company's debt.
Bloomberg <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-03-19/elon-musk-s-x-raises-close-to-1-billion-in-fresh-equity-funding">reported </a>Wednesday that X raised around $1 billion in new equity from investors including Musk, valuing the company at close to what the billionaire originally paid. Darsana Capital Partners, who bought some of X's debt in recent months, participated in the equity round, according to the report.

While X's revenue has dropped since Musk took the company private, a recent report showed an improvement in recent months to revenue and showed that adjusted EBITDA was also improving.
As Benzinga recently reported, large banks that helped finance the Twitter buyout have been stuck holding their debt in the company longer than they typically do on large buyout deals like Musk's. A quick declining value led to bankers seeing lower valuation for their debt and reasons to hold on until things improved.
Lenders sold off their debt recently with values of 90 to 95 cents on the dollar and in some cases at original value, which comes on top of interest payments the banks have already received.

Why It's Important: One of the items helping X's valuation is likely the company's stake in artificial intelligence start-up xAI. Musk offered a 25% stake in xAI to investors who helped back the original Twitter purchase.
X is also nearing the launch of X Money, the company's push into digital wallets and peer-to-peer payments as part of Musk's plan to have the company part of an "everything app." Visa Inc (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/V#NYSE">V</a>) was named as the<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/social-media/25/01/43277294/visa-stock-moves-higher-as-company-becomes-first-partner-of-musks-xmoney-whats-going-on"> company's first partner </a>for X Money back in January.
In February, <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/02/44022369/exclusive-if-x-went-public-today-would-it-be-worth-75-billion-or-less-than-20-billion-poll-says-this-amount">Benzinga asked readers </a>what value they thought was appropriate for X.
&#8220;What do you believe is a fair valuation for X (formerly Twitter)?&#8221; Benzinga asked.
The results were:

Nearly half of the voters in the poll said X should be valued at less than $20 billion, which would represent a valuation of less than half of what Musk paid for the company back in 2022.
The next highest vote-getter was the $41 to $75 billion range at 24%. Over $75 billion ranked third at 16%. This means that 40% of voters think X should be valued at $41 billion or more.
While that&#8217;s good news, the majority (60%) see X valuation fairly valued at $40 billion or less today.
Musk&nbsp;<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/m-a/22/10/29334819/elon-musk-sees-long-term-potential-in-twitter-despite-obviously-overpaying-for-it" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">previously shared optimism&nbsp;</a>for X and its future valuation.
"I see a clear, but difficult, path to a &lt;$250B valuation," he said.
Benzinga readers don&#8217;t see X&#8217;s valuation getting there yet, but perhaps Musk will be proven right someday.
The new valuation for X could boost Musk&#8217;s wealth, which has taken a hit in 2025. Musk is ranked as the world's richest person by <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/billionaires/?sref=TBDibEcD">Bloomberg </a>with a wealth of $303 billion. Musk has lost $130 billion in wealth in 2025 with shares of Tesla Inc down 38% year-to-date in 2025.
