The Details: Microvast&#8217;s breakthrough in ASSB technology improves battery safety, energy capacity, and efficiency, which is important for applications such as backup power for data centers and electric school buses.
Microvast explained that traditional batteries can usually operate at voltages of 3.2V to 3.7V per cell due to the limitations of liquid electrolytes. However, the company said its new technology eliminates liquid electrolytes and allows for a single cell to achieve dozens of volts.
&#8220;By developing a technology that eliminates liquid electrolytes and prioritizes scalability, we are well-positioned to meet the evolving needs of industries requiring reliable and safe energy storage solutions,&#8221; said Yang Wu, CEO of Microvast.
The company is advancing to the pilot production phase, where it will address manufacturing challenges to deliver its ASSB technology.

What Happened: Wildfires in California have forced thousands of people to be evacuated from their homes as wildfires led to power outages and damaged properties, marking one of the potentially highest costing events in state history for the insurance industry.
Companies are pitching in to help consumers by delaying payments, offering free services and providing necessities like places to stay and food.
Here's a look at a portion of the companies offering help:
SpaceX: The company is <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/space/25/01/42892886/spacex-ceo-elon-musk-offers-free-starlink-terminals-to-los-angeles-areas-affected-by-wildfires">providing free Starlink</a> terminals to areas near Los Angeles impacted by the wildfires, CEO Elon Musk announced Thursday. The tweet came with a local media reporter sharing that they were using Starlink to be able to provide live coverage with a lack of cell service in the area.
Sweetgreen (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SG#NYSE">SG</a>): The restaurant chain's co-founder Nicholas Jammet <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/nicolas-jammet-5b9b878/?trk=public_post_embed_feed-actor-name">shared </a>a video on LinkedIn saying the company was hoping to provide food to as many people impacted by the wildfires as possible.
"We want to help, we want to feed as many people as possible," Jammet said in the video.
Starbucks (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SBUX#NASDAQ">SBUX</a>): One Starbucks location was destroyed by fires in the area, Bloomberg <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/live-blog/2025-01-08/palisades-fire-near-los-angeles-latest?srnd=homepage-americas&amp;sref=TBDibEcD">reported</a>. Another location handed out coffee and food to first responders to help in the efforts.
Target Corporation (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TGT#NYSE">TGT</a>): The retailer said is was fast-tracking critical supplies to stores near Los Angeles to help get necessary supplies to first responders and customers quicker.
Kroger (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/KR#NYSE">KR</a>): The retailer lost a location in the Palisades region from the fires. The retailer is also giving food and water to people in the fire-impacted areas.
Albertsons (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/ACI#NYSE">ACI</a>): The retailer is also giving food and water to first responders in the wildfire areas.
Lyft Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/LYFT#NASDAQ">LYFT</a>): The ride-share company announced it was offering free and discounted rides to and from shelters for impacted California residents.
"Lyft is committed to providing access to reliable transportation, especially in emergencies to support communities in need," Lyft Social Impact Manager Celia Moreno <a href="https://www.lyft.com/blog/posts/help-for-those-impacted-by-wildfire-in-california">said</a>.
U-Haul (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/UHAL#NYSE">UHAL</a>): The moving and storage company is offering 30 days free storage at 92 facilities located in Southern California for those impacted by the wildfires.
"People are hurting and in need of help. U-Haul is part of these communities, and if we can help our neighbors in this process, we are going to do so," U-Haul area district vice president Chris Piedra <a href="https://www.uhaul.com/Articles/About/Ca-Wildfire-Assistance-U-Haul-Offers-30-Days-Free-Storage-AT-92-Centers-33115/">said</a>.
Apple Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AAPL#NASDAQ">AAPL</a>): The technology giant is providing temporary relief for Apple Card users in the Los Angeles area, allowing people to postpone payments without interest, as <a href="https://x.com/markgurman/status/1877480784648397264?s=46">reported </a>by Bloomberg writer Mark Gurman. Apple CEO Tim Cook also announced the company will be donating to help in the wildfire efforts.
"Thank you to the incredible firefighters, first responders, and all those assisting for your heroic efforts. Apple will be donating to support the victims and recovery efforts on the ground," Cook <a href="https://x.com/tim_cook/status/1877176338651439162">tweeted</a>.
Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSLA#NASDAQ">TSLA</a>): The electric vehicle company <a href="https://x.com/tesla_na/status/1877454782647980368">announced </a>it was forgiving Autopilot and FSD Supervised strikes to people in California to provide them with more options when evacuating the region.
Planet Fitness (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/PLNT#NYSE">PLNT</a>): The gym chain is offering its locations to first responders and local residents in the impacted areas as a place to shower and charge devices through January 15, as <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/amp/news/los-angeles-wildfires-pacific-palisades-planet-fitness-airbnb/">reported </a>by CBS News.
Airbnb (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/ABNB#NASDAQ">ABNB</a>): The house rental's Airbnb.org charitable arm is helping find free temporary housing for people who had to evacuate their homes.
Toyota (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TM#NYSE">TM</a>): The automotive company <a href="https://pressroom.toyota.com/toyota-supports-california-fires-relief-efforts/">announced </a>it would offer payment relief options to those impacted by the wildfires and is also matching donations from U.S. employees made to nonprofits like The American Red Cross.
AT&amp;T (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/T#NYSE">T</a>): The telecommunications company <a href="https://about.att.com/pages/disaster-recovery/california-fires">waived </a>overage charges and is offering unlimited talk, text and data through Feb. 6, 2025 to customers in the impacted areas.
T-Mobile (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TMUS#NASDAQ">TMUS</a>): The telecommunications company <a href="https://www.t-mobile.com/news/network/t-mobile-stands-prepared-as-wildfires-impact-southern-california">providing</a> free Wi-Fi and device charging at some retail stores in the area as well as Wi-Fi at command posts. The company is also offering unlimited talk, text and data to customers in the impacted area through Jan. 15.
DoorDash (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/DASH#NASDAQ">DASH</a>): The food delivery company <a href="https://about.doordash.com/en-us/news/los-angeles-wildfires-2025">offered </a>$150,000 in community credits to first responders and organizations on the ground in the impacted regions, allowing people helping with the efforts and displaced from their homes to get food and essential supplies quickly. The company is providing relief grants for local restaurants through the Restaurant Disaster Relief Fund. A total of $250,000 is also available through the Dasher Relief Fund for eligible drivers in the region impacted by the fire.

On Friday, Mersana Therapeutics Inc.&nbsp;(NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MRSN#NASDAQ">MRSN</a>) released initial data from the Phase 1 dose escalation and backfill cohorts <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/25/01/g42907652/mersana-therapeutics-announces-positive-initial-clinical-data-from-phase-1-clinical-trial-of-emilt" rel="noreferrer noopener">for emiltatug ledadotin</a>.
Emi-Le was generally well tolerated, with no Grade 4 or 5 treatment-related adverse events reported.
At intermediate doses in the trial (38.1 mg/m2&nbsp;to 67.4 mg/m2), the confirmed objective response rate among evaluable patients was 23% (6 of 26 patients) across all B7-H4 high tumors and 23% (3 of 13 patients) with B7-H4 high TNBC, all of whom had previously been treated with at least one topo-1 ADC.
In the ASCENT Phase 3 trial of sacituzumab govitecan, the ORR with standard-of-care single-agent chemotherapy in relapsed/refractory TNBC was approximately 5%, with progression-free survival of approximately seven weeks.
Based on these encouraging Emi-Le data at intermediate doses, Mersana has advanced a dose of 67.4 mg/m2&nbsp;every four weeks into an expansion cohort in patients with TNBC who have received one to four prior treatment lines.
At high doses above 76 mg/m2, the confirmed ORR among evaluable patients was 22% (2 of 9) across all B7-H4 high tumors.
Additionally, 78% (7 of 9 patients) had ≥30% tumor reduction in target lesions.
At these high dose levels, objective responses in multiple evaluable patients with B7-H4 high tumors were not confirmed after protocol-mandated dose delays for proteinuria.
Mersana is implementing proteinuria mitigation efforts and continues to examine higher doses in dose escalation and backfill cohorts to identify a second dose for the expansion portion of the trial.
Concurrently, the FDA granted an additional Fast Track designation to Mersana Therapeutics&#8217; XMT-1660.
The company also announced that the World Health Organization has approved emiltatug ledadotin (abbreviated as Emi-Le) as XMT-1660&#8217;s <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/25/01/g42907717/mersana-therapeutics-announces-additional-fda-fast-track-designation-granted-to-emiltatug-ledadoti" rel="noreferrer noopener">international nonproprietary name</a>.
The new Fast Track designation is for advanced or metastatic breast cancer in patients with human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) low (IHC 1+ or IHC 2+/ISH–) or HER2-negative (IHC 0) disease, including triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC), who have received a prior topoisomerase-1 inhibitor ADC.
Additionally, hormone-receptor positive patients should also have received or be ineligible for endocrine therapy.
Price Action: MRSN stock is down 36.6% at $0.8245 at last check Friday.

Why Is Cancer-Focused Mersana Therapeutics Stock Trading Lower On Friday?

Unexpectedly strong labour market data has sparked a bearish response in crypto markets, with Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) teetering <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cryptocurrency/25/01/42913406/bitcoin-fights-to-regain-94000-what-does-technical-analysis-say">around the $94,000 mark</a>.
What Happened: Data published on Friday shows the U.S. <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/economics/macro-economic-events/25/01/42912480/us-economy-adds-256000-payrolls-in-december-as-tight-labor-market-tops-forecasts-dollar-treasury-yields-spike">added 256,000 parolls in December</a>, sending bond yields soaring and knocking Bitcoin off its morning recovery.
The apex crypto had recovered from $92,000 to $95,000 overnight, but quickly lost over $2,000 in reaction to the stronger-than-anticipated data. 
Crypto trader Jelle highlighted the abrupt shift in market sentiment, pointing out that the jobs data managed to reverse the price momentum with the words &#8220;stairs up, elevator down.&#8221;

Prominent technical analyst Kevin <a href="https://x.com/Kev_Capital_TA/status/1877712204121645076">argued</a> that the report&#8217;s strong labor market indicators—low unemployment and PCE inflation within the Federal Reserve's 2% range—are positive for the economy. 
Kevin believes the market&#8217;s negative reaction stems from an overreliance on rate cuts, even though the economy appears healthier without them.
"Report was bullish. Hopefully market comes to its senses," Kevin explained. 
Echoing a similar opinion, Charles Edwards, founder of Capriole Investments highlighted the market&#8217;s bearish overreaction to a strong employment report, which he sees as bullish in the long run.
He noted that fewer jobs would allow rates to stay high, but strong job numbers suggest the bull market could extend further.

Why It Matters: Before the report, analysts outlined <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cryptocurrency/25/01/42909925/previewing-todays-most-important-jobs-report-what-it-means-for-bitcoin">potential market scenarios</a> based on varying unemployment outcomes.
A &#8220;hot&#8221; jobs report—defined as over 200,000 jobs added—was expected to trigger a selloff, which is precisely what happened.
Bitcoin saw whale transactions and exchange netflows dropping by 6.2% and 335%, respectively.
