Originally spun out of Hewlett-Packard in 1999, Agilent has evolved into a leading life science and diagnostic firm. Today, Agilent's measurement technologies serve a broad base of customers with its three operating segments: life science and applied tools, cross lab consisting of consumables and services related to life science and applied tools, and diagnostics and genomics. Over half of its sales are generated from the biopharmaceutical, chemical, and advanced materials end markets, which we view as the stickiest end markets, but it also supports clinical lab, environmental, forensics, food, academic, and government-related organizations. The company is geographically diverse, with operations in the US and China representing the largest country concentrations.

UBS Maintains Neutral on Agilent Technologies, Lowers Price Target to $130

Wall Street hovered slightly higher by midday Thursday, giving up a chunk of strong overnight gains in futures markets that were triggered by a federal court ruling suspending a large portion <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/government/regulations/25/05/45672421/tariffs-blocked-by-court-but-goldman-sachs-says-trump-could-reimpose-them-within-days">of President Donald Trump&#8217;s tariffs.</a>
Nvidia Corp. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NVDA#NASDAQ">NVDA</a>) led the market after reporting a better-than-feared quarter. The artificial intelligence leader showed resilience in the face of export restrictions. Shares rose 4.3%, ranking as the second-best performer on the S&amp;P 500 and climbing to their highest level in more than three months.

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Fresh Economic Data Adds To Mixed Tone</h3>
First-quarter U.S. gross domestic product shrank 0.2%, slightly improving from the initial 0.3% estimate. Still, it marked a sharp slowdown compared to the 2.4% growth in the last quarter of 2024, reflecting slower consumer spending and higher imports ahead of the tariffs impact.
More concerning was the labor market. Initial jobless claims for the week ending May 24 jumped to 240,000, exceeding expectations and reaching their highest level in nearly four months. Continuing claims also rose to levels last seen in November 2021, indicating potential softening in employment trends.
The U.S. dollar pulled back, nearly wiping out gains from the prior two sessions as traders reassessed the outlook for interest rates. Meanwhile, Treasury yields dropped, with the 30-year note falling to 4.92% and the 10-year yield easing to 4.42%.
Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell met with Trump at the White House, the Fed confirmed.
The meeting focused on recent economic developments, including inflation, employment and growth. Powell reiterated that the Fed&#8217;s policy path would remain dependent on incoming data but refrained from commenting on future rate decisions.
Gold climbed 1.1% to $3,320 per ounce, buoyed by lower yields and dollar weakness. Meanwhile, Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) fell below $107,000, giving up recent gains as risk appetite moderated in crypto markets.

For the full fiscal year ending January 31, 2026, the company projects total revenue between $3.09 billion and $3.10 billion versus the Street view of $3.09 billion (prior view: $3.040 billion to $3.055 billion), non-GAAP operating income of approximately $1.36 billion, and adjusted diluted EPS of around $7.63 versus the Street view of $7.56 (Prior view: $7.32).
Veeva Systems shares jumped 19.9% to $281.10 on Thursday.

Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/A#NYSE">A</a>) reported <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/25/05/b45656371/agilent-reports-second-quarter-fiscal-year-2025-financial-results" rel="noreferrer noopener">second-quarter 2025</a> sales of $1.67 billion on Wednesday, almost in line with the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/calendars/earnings" rel="noreferrer noopener">consensus of $1.63 billion</a>, representing growth of 6% reported and up 5.3% core year-over-year.
The Life Sciences and Diagnostics Markets Group (LDG) reported second-quarter revenue of $654 million, an increase of 8% reported and 3% core&nbsp;year-over-year. LDG&#8217;s operating margin for the quarter was 19.7%.
The Agilent CrossLab Group (ACG) reported second-quarter revenue of $713 million, an increase of 7% reported and 9% core year-over-year. ACG&#8217;s operating margin for the quarter was 32.4%.
The Applied Markets Group (AMG) reported second-quarter revenue of $301 million, a decrease of 1% reported and flat core year-over-year. AMG&#8217;s operating margin for the quarter was 19.5%.

&#8220;The Agilent team delivered strong second-quarter results in a highly dynamic market environment,&#8221; said Agilent President and CEO Padraig McDonnell. &#8220;That is in large part due to our Ignite Transformation, which is driving our financial success as it&#8217;s become our core enterprise delivery engine and operating model. Ignite represents a decisive shift to fuel accelerated profitable growth and operational excellence at Agilent.&#8221;
The company&#8217;s&nbsp;operating margin <a target="_blank" href="https://in.investing.com/news/transcripts/earnings-call-transcript-agilent-technologies-q2-2025-beats-forecasts-stock-rises-93CH-4852010" rel="noreferrer noopener">was</a> 25.1% as it absorbed some incremental tariff costs.
In the earnings conference call, McDonnell said, &#8220;Through our tariff task force enabled by our Ignite operating model, we feel that we are able to mitigate most of the impact in 2025 and fully mitigate in 2026 even when considering recent developments on the U.S.-EU tariffs.&#8221;
Agilent reaffirmed fiscal 2025 adjusted earnings of $5.54-$5.61 per share compared to the consensus of $5.55.
