Call options are inherently bullish, and this wager suggests Soros is expecting a serious upside in First Solar shares — even as many investors remain skeptical amid softening demand and policy uncertainty in the clean energy space.
This contrarian bet stands out especially given recent weakness across solar names, with FSLR stock trailing broader indexes and analysts reining in expectations. But Soros, who's never been shy about going against the grain, appears to see something others don't &#8211; perhaps a regulatory tailwind, earnings surprise, or sector re-rating on the horizon.

Adjusted EPS&nbsp;of&nbsp;$1.54 <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/calendars/earnings" rel="noreferrer noopener">beat the consensus of&nbsp;$1.40</a>.
Total energy distribution rose&nbsp;6.9% year over year (Y/Y) in the Vertically Integrated Utilities segment and&nbsp;rose&nbsp;10.7%&nbsp;Y/Y&nbsp;in the Transmission &amp; Distribution Utilities segment.&nbsp;
Commercial load rose by&nbsp;12.3%&nbsp;in the quarter vs. 10.6% prior year quarter, on large-load customer demand in&nbsp;Indiana,&nbsp;Ohio,&nbsp;Oklahoma&nbsp;and&nbsp;Texas.
Adjusted operating earnings rose to&nbsp;$823.3 million&nbsp;in the quarter from&nbsp;$670.4 million a year ago.&nbsp;
Adjusted operating earnings from Vertically Integrated Utilities rose to&nbsp;$349.9 million from&nbsp;$300.3 million in the prior year, and AEP Transmission Holdco grew to&nbsp;$234.6 million from&nbsp;$208.7 million&nbsp;in the prior&nbsp;year&#8217;s quarter.
FY25&nbsp;Outlook: American Electric Power reaffirmed FY25 adjusted EPS of&nbsp;$5.75 –&nbsp;$5.95&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/calendars/guidance" rel="noreferrer noopener">vs consensus of&nbsp;$5.87</a>.
The company continues to see a long-term growth rate&nbsp;outlook&nbsp;of&nbsp;6% to&nbsp;8%.

American Electric Power Reaffirms 2025 Outlook With Minimal Tariff Risk On $54B Grid Investment Plan

Wall Street edged lower by midday Tuesday as uncertainty surrounding trade policies lingered, with investors adopting a cautious approach ahead of <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/federal-reserve">Wednesday&#8217;s Federal Reserve meeting.</a>
In a meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, President Donald Trump suggested the U.S. may soon begin renegotiating the USMCA. He noted that China is eager to negotiate due to its struggling economy, driven by a lack of U.S. trade, but emphasized the talks would take place &#8220;at the right time.&#8221;
Trump kept his trade stance unclear, suggesting that while some agreements may be signed, there is no obligation to finalize any, and dismissed repeated questions about the number of deals in progress.
The S&amp;P 500 dipped 30 points, or 0.6%, to 5,610, on track for its second consecutive negative session after nine straight gains. The Nasdaq 100 dropped 0.8%, while the Russell 2000 slipped 1%.
Ten of the 11 S&amp;P 500 sectors were in the red, with utilities as the only sector in the green. The U.S. dollar fell, extending its losses for a third straight session.
Commodities saw a broad rally, with oil prices surging 3.6%, pushing WTI above $59, following <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/economics/macro-economic-events/25/05/45224883/oil-soars-above-59-as-middle-east-airstrikes-jolt-markets">Israeli airstrikes in Yemen</a>. Gold also rallied, climbing 2.4% to above $3,400 per ounce amid heightened geopolitical tensions.
Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) reversed Monday's gains, slipping 0.4% to $94,375.

Wall Street traded lower on the final session of the month, heading for its third consecutive monthly loss as economic data began reflecting the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/donald-trump">impact of Trump tariffs.</a>
U.S. GDP shrank by 0.3% in the last quarter, marking the first economic contraction since 2022 and missing forecasts for a 0.4% expansion. The decline was driven by a surge in imports and reduced government spending.
Labor market data also disappointed. The ADP National Employment Report showed private employers added just 62,000 jobs in April—the weakest gain in nine months and well below the expected 108,000.
By midday in New York, the S&amp;P 500 was down 1% to 5,500, on pace to end a six-day winning streak. Tech stocks in the Nasdaq 100 lagged ahead of earnings from industry titans Microsoft Corp. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MSFT#NYSE">MSFT</a>) and Meta Platforms Inc.
Nine of the S&amp;P 500's eleven sectors were in the red, with only consumer staples and health care posting modest gains. Energy and consumer discretionary led the losses, falling 3.3% and 2.7%, respectively.
Commodities were broadly lower. Oil tumbled 3.7% to $58 a barrel, approaching its lowest close since March 2021. Copper—often seen as a gauge of global growth—plunged 5.2% to $4.60 per pound. Natural gas declined 2.5% to $3.17 per million British thermal units.
Bond markets were steady, with the 10-year Treasury yield hovering at 4.17%. Gold dipped 0.3% to $3,330 per ounce, while the U.S. dollar index (DXY) strengthened by the same margin.
Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) showed resilience, holding steady at around $93,000 despite broader market weakness.

I&amp;M's filing explains the need to acquire the facility, details about the plant, and future operating plans, if approved. Through the CPCN process the IURC will ensure that the proposed plant acquisition is in the public interest and is just and reasonable.
The proposal to acquire the Oregon Clean Energy Center and its 870 MW of natural gas-fueled electric generation is one component of I&amp;M's Future Ready plan, which details the resources needed to provide I&amp;M customers reliable and affordable energy today and into the future.
"I&amp;M has established the need for additional electric generation, and we believe the Oregon Clean Energy Center is an important opportunity to further diversify our current generation portfolio and position I&amp;M for future growth," said Steve Baker, I&amp;M president and chief operating officer. I&amp;M is currently navigating an unprecedented time in its history. Surging AI adoption is poised to add unprecedented pressure to the U.S. power grid, with data centers emerging as the primary energy guzzlers, according to a report released this week by Natural Gas Intelligence titled &#8216;AI Rising: How Will Natural Gas Markets Evolve to Fuel the Demand Surge?&#8217;
The International Energy Agency projects that electricity demand in the United States through 2027 will rise by an amount equivalent to California's entire current power usage. That's a surge of roughly 400 terawatt-hours (TWh) in just three years.

CEO Larry Coben said the company has signed multiple letters of intent with data center developers and is advancing 10 natural gas plants totaling about 8 GW in generation capacity.
In February, NRG also partnered with GE Vernova Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GEV#NYSE">GEV</a>) and construction firm Kiewit Corp. to develop up to 5.4 GW of new capacity explicitly linked to AI data centers.

Chinese AI company DeepSeek has introduced a platform that claims to rival current models in performance—at a fraction of the power cost. That innovation, while promising, may add another twist to the AI power narrative.
"DeepSeek's improved computational efficiency may provide a pathway to quell hyperscalers' power requirement," according to a recent report by Rystad Energy experts.
"But it could also escalate the AI arms race and compel companies toward more power-intensive innovation."
