Beyond Meat Inc is a provider of plant-based meat company offering a portfolio of revolutionary plant-based meats. Major market opportunities attract major competition. Beyond Meat Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BYND#NASDAQ">BYND</a>) missed analyst expectations in the first quarter of the ongoing fiscal year and withdrew its full-year revenue guidance, citing the ongoing economic uncertainties. However, the CEO forecasted a &#8220;relatively minimal&#8221; tariff impact on the firm.
What Happened: The plant-based meat company withdrew its full-year guidance and limited its revised outlook to the second quarter net revenue expectations only.
&#8220;As with many other companies, we are experiencing an elevated level of uncertainty in our operating environment as a result of the uncertain and volatile macroeconomic conditions, which could have unforeseen impacts on our actual realized results,&#8221; said the CEO, Lubi Kutua.
Meanwhile, while addressing tariff impact questions from the analysts during its earnings call, Kutua said, &#8220;We&#8217;ve done some analysis to try to understand what the implications might be. Look, there&#8217;s no guarantees, but I think at this point, we think the direct impact on our business is relatively minimal.&#8221;
The company incurred extraordinary or transient expenses worth $7 million during the first quarter, which included expenses related to the suspension of its operational activities in China.
&#8220;Gross profit and gross margin included approximately $5.2 million of extraordinary charges related to specific strategic inventory reduction initiatives and expenses related to the suspension of our operational activities in China,&#8221; said the CEO.

Beyond Meat Shelves Full-Year Outlook After $7M Hit — CEO Warns Of 'Unforeseen' Economic Headwinds, But Downplays Tariff Threat

U.S. stock futures rose on Thursday after two days of advance on Wednesday. Futures of major benchmark indices were higher in premarket.
This followed the Federal Reserve&#8217;s <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/government/regulations/25/05/45266366/powell-flags-sharp-tariff-shock-elevated-uncertainty-fed-sticks-to-wait-and-see-mode">decision to hold the interest rate</a> steady at 4.25% to 4.5% on Wednesday. 
"The tariff increases announced so far have been significantly larger than anticipated," Fed Chair Jerome Powell said.
He noted that if the tariffs are sustained, they could lead to higher inflation, weaker growth, and a rise in unemployment, directly undermining the Fed&#8217;s dual mandate.
"We don&#8217;t think we need to be in a hurry. We are going to be watching the data. It may move quickly or slowly. But we&#8217;re well-positioned to wait," he said.
Meanwhile, the 10-year Treasury bond yielded 4.31% and the two-year bond was at 3.82%. The CME Group's FedWatch <a href="https://www.cmegroup.com/markets/interest-rates/cme-fedwatch-tool.html">tool</a>&#8216;s projections show markets pricing a 79.8% likelihood of the Federal Reserve keeping the current interest rates unchanged in its June meeting.

The SPDR S&amp;P 500 ETF Trust (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SPY#NYSE">SPY</a>) and Invesco QQQ Trust ETF (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/QQQ#NASDAQ">QQQ</a>), which track the S&amp;P 500 index and Nasdaq 100 index, respectively, rose in premarket on Thursday. The SPY was up 1.14% to $567.54, while the QQQ advanced 1.51% to $490.61, according to <a href="https://pro.benzinga.com/dashboard">Benzinga Pro</a> data.
Cues From Last Session:
Leading the gains among sectors in the S&amp;P 500 on Wednesday were health care, consumer discretionary, and information technology stocks, as most sectors closed positively.
Bucking this trend were communication services and materials stocks, which finished the session lower.
In company news, Uber Technologies Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/UBER#NYSE">UBER</a>) reported first-quarter revenue that fell short of expectations, while Walt Disney Co. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/DIS#NYSE">DIS</a>) announced positive fiscal second-quarter 2025 results on Wednesday.
On the economic front, U.S. mortgage application volumes saw an 11% increase from the prior week for the week ending May 2nd.

Scott Wren, the senior global market strategist at Wells Fargo, stated in his weekly note that &#8220;Further near-term upside in the S&amp;P 500 Index is likely limited, and we expect to see more downside volatility before the tariff uncertainties are resolved.&#8221;
According to Wren, central bankers keep telling us they are "data dependent." That means Chair Powell and the other voting Federal Open Market Committee members need to see the data that tells the Federal Reserve the labor environment is weak and/or inflation readings are coming down consistently.
&#8220;In the meantime, we are looking into 2026 and seeing an economic and earnings recovery. For now, while volatility remains the likely headline, we prefer to focus on quality, like large- and mid-cap U.S. equities, and favor the Energy, Communication Services, Information Technology, and Financials sectors,&#8221; he added.

Total revenue was down 9.1% year-over-year. The plant-based meat company noted that its net loss was impacted by legal expenses, strategic decisions to increase provisions for certain inventory items and the suspension of the company&#8217;s operations in China. 
&#8220;As the&nbsp;first quarter&nbsp;of 2025 progressed to a close, we saw a slowdown in consumption as the uncertain macroeconomic environment likely exacerbated category challenges,&#8221; said Ethan Brown, president and CEO of Beyond Meat.
&#8220;Nevertheless, we drove year-over-year reductions in operating expenses, notwithstanding the impact of certain transitory items, to partially offset disappointing net revenues and gross profit.&#8221;
The company ended the quarter with $115.8 million in cash, cash equivalents and restricted cash, as well as $1.1 billion in total outstanding debt. 
In connection with earnings, Beyond Meat announced that it successfully closed a financing facility providing up to&nbsp;$100 million&nbsp;in new senior secured debt from Unprocessed Foods, LLC. 
Outlook: Beyond Meat expects second-quarter net revenue to be in the range of $80 million to $85 million versus estimates of $93.47 million, according to <a href="http://pro.benzinga.com">Benzinga Pro</a>.
Management will further discuss the quarter on a conference call scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. ET.

J.P. Morgan analyst Ken Goldman reiterated an <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/BYND/analyst-ratings">Underweight rating</a> on the shares of Beyond Meat Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BYND#NASDAQ">BYND</a>).
In the fourth-quarter, the El Segundo, California-based company exceeded revenue expectations by $1.1 million, although EBITDA fell short of consensus Metrix estimates by $7 million, primarily due to a weaker-than-anticipated gross margin, said the analyst.
The 2025 revenue guidance also underperformed, with the midpoint forecast of approximately $327 million, below the Consensus Metrix estimate of $337 million. 
The company projects a gross margin of around 20% for 2025, close to the Street&#8217;s expectation of 20.5%. On the operating expenses front, Beyond Meat continues to make progress by announcing additional savings. But the midpoint guidance of $170 million is slightly below the Street's $173 million estimate, Goldman says.
Beyond said its operating expenses would be reduced by $5.5 million to $6.5 million&nbsp;after its plan to cut 44 positions in North America and the EU.

Overall, the analyst does not see significant changes to the consensus EBITDA for 2025, though the revenue outlook is expected to align with the company's guidance.
While revenue is expected to grow (+MSD%) in 2H24, it&#8217;s important to note that BYND has a history of missing its guidance.
Over the past five years, the company's sales or gross margin projections have consistently fallen short of initial forecasts. Therefore, investors should be cautious about expecting significant upside from the 2025 guidance provided today, the analyst asserted.
The analyst changes the 2025 EBITDA estimate from -$63 million to -$61 million and for 2026, the estimate is changed from -$44 million to -$39 million.
While demand for its products may improve long-term and the company is well-positioned in the alt-meat market, the analyst thinks the path to profitability remains uncertain, and current demand patterns are flat. 
Price Action: BYND shares are trading lower by 9.41% at $3.23 at last check Thursday.

Beyond Meat Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BYND#NASDAQ">BYND</a>) shares are trading <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/premarket" rel="noreferrer noopener">lower in premarket</a> on Thursday.
The company reported<a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/25/02/g43989457/beyond-meat-reports-fourth-quarter-and-full-year-2024-financial-results" rel="noreferrer noopener"> fourth-quarter sales growth of 4% </a>year-on-year to $76.66 million, beating the analyst consensus estimate of $75.31 million.
The increase in net revenues was primarily driven by a 6.3% increase in net revenue per pound, partially offset by a 2.1% decrease in volume of products sold.
U.S. retail channel net revenues increased 5.7% to $33.9 million, U.S. foodservice channel net revenues decreased 2.1% to $10.5 million, International retail&nbsp;declined 1.7% to $13.1 million and International foodservice improved 9.2% to $19.3 million.
Adjusted EPS of $(0.65) <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/earnings" rel="noreferrer noopener">missed the consensus</a> estimate of $(0.44).
Gross profit for the quarter was $10.0 million compared to a loss of $83.9 million last year. The gross margin was 13.1%.
The company posted an operating loss of $37.8 million compared to a loss of $160.8 million last year.
Adjusted EBITDA was a loss of $26.0 million versus a loss of $125.1 million in the year-ago period.
The company held $145.6 million in cash and equivalents as of December end. Total outstanding debt was $1.1 billion.
&#8220;2024 was a pivotal year for Beyond Meat. We returned to year-over-year net revenue growth in the second half, meaningfully expanded gross margin compared to the prior year, sharply reduced operating expenses, and delivered a significant year-over-year improvement in Adjusted EBITDA,&#8221; said President and CEO Ethan Brown.

As part of its strategy to become EBITDA-positive by 2026, the company is implementing organizational changes and cost-cutting initiatives.
On February 24, 2025, the company&#8217;s Board of Directors approved a reduction in force (RIF), cutting 44 positions in North America and the EU.
This move affects around 17% of the non-production workforce globally, which translates to approximately 6% of the company&#8217;s entire global workforce.
Beyond estimates that the 2025 RIF will come with one-time costs of $1.0 million to $1.5 million, mostly covering severance packages, benefits, and other related expenses for affected employees.
These adjustments could lead to an estimated $5.5 million to $6.5 million in reduced cash compensation operating expenses in 2025.
Also, the Board approved a plan to suspend the company&#8217;s current operational activities in China, which are estimated to cease by the end of the second quarter of 2025.
As part of this plan, Beyond is reducing its workforce in China by approximately 20 employees and incur one-time cash charges of approximately $0.5 million to $1.0 million.
